Open Heaven 16 June 2018 [Saturday] – An Eagle for Christ?

Open Heaven 16 June 2018 Memorise
Because strait is the gate , and narrow is the way , which leadeth unto life , and few there be that find it. Matthew 7:14

Bible Reading Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;

31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Bible in one year: 2 Kings 14-15, Acts 11:19-12-5

I have taught my children on several occasions to imbibe the characteristics of the eagle. One of these outstanding characteristics is that the eagles fly alone. It so not out of pride or the empty feeling of self-sufficiency that they do this; rather, it is because keeping company with other birds during flight is a form of weight and distraction for them.

A disciple of Christ must emulate this attribute of the eagle if he or she would safely arrive home in heaven at the end of his or her life.

The problem with many children of God is that they seem to have lost sight of the fact that the path they are following is so narrow that it cannot accommodate a crowd (Matthew 7:14).

This is the reason why a disciple of Jesus Christ must possess this characteristic of flying alone. In 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, Paul clearly admonished that evil communication corrupts good manners:

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion had light with darkness? And what Concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what hath he that believeth with an infidel?”

It is disheartening to note that there are many wolves in sheep’s clothing in the church today, which is why every purposeful believer needs to have the mindset of an eagle. Open Heaven 17 June 2017 (Sunday)

Another noteworthy characteristic of eagles is that they are selective about what they eat and where they live. Moreover, they never fly against the wind. As a purposeful believer, you must also be selective about what you consume: what you listen to, what you look at and what you expose your mind to.

Open Heaven 16 June 2018

What you regularly feed your spirit, soul and body with will determine what you will draw on in the day of trouble. You must be selective of the company you keep because your companions strongly influence what you are exposed to.

Like the eagle that never flies against the wind, the purposeful believer must also be mindful of the move of the Holy Spirit and ensure that he or she is never aligned against His work.

Beloved, I encourage you to choose to be an eagle for Christ from today, and the Lord will renew your strength according to Isaiah 40:31. You cannot fly by your own strength, but the Holy Spirit will help you if only you give yourself completely to Jesus Christ today.

Prayer Point
Father, make me an eagle for Christ today and cause me to fly for you.

Open Heaven 16 June 2018 Hymn 5

The Great Physician now is near,
The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus!
Sweetest note in seraph

Refrain:

Sweetest name on mortal tongue;
Sweetest carol ever sung:
Jesus, blessed Jesus!

2 Your many sins are all forgiv’n,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus;
The veil ’twixt you and God is riven,
Redemption wrought by Jesus.

3 All glory to the dying Lamb!
I now believe in Jesus;
I love the blessed Savior’s name,
I love the name of Jesus.

4 His name dispels my guilt and fear,
No other name but Jesus;
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
The charming name of Jesus!

Open Heaven 17 June 2018 Memorise:
Say unto them, As truly ad I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: Numbers 14:28

Bible Reading – Number 14:20-29

20 Then the Lord said: “I have pardoned, according to your word;

21 but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord

22 because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice,

23 they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.

24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.

25 Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valley; tomorrow turn and move out into the wilderness by the Way of the Red Sea.”

26 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

27 “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who complain against Me? I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me.

28 Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you:

29 The carcasses of you who have complained against Me shall fall in this wilderness, all of you who were numbered, according to your entire number, from twenty years old and above.

Bible in one year: 2 Kings 16-17, Acts 12:6-25

Apostle James gave a profound description of the power embedded in the tongue. In  James 3:5-6, he wrote:

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature ;and it is set set on fire of hell.”

In Numbers 12:20-29, we see in practical terms the evil effect of misusing the tongue. Moses had sent out some men to spy out the promised  Land.

Ten out of the twelve spies that were sent out returned with an evil report driven by unbelief, that said many things which  showed their lack of confidence in the God of their fathers, despite the fact that He had severally demonstrated His mighty power to them in the course of their journey through the wilderness.

Open Heaven 17 June 2018

They seemed not to know their worth and hence they described themselves as grasshoppers and the inhabitants of the land as giants(Numbers 13:33). This testimony of the faithless spies angered the lord and He gave his verdict contained in Numbers 14:28

‎”Say unto them, as truly as I  live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.”

This outcome, caused by the evil report of the ten spies, established the truth of Proverbs 18:21, which say:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love of shall eat the fruit thereof.”

We all will be accountable to God for every word that we say. It is therefore crucial that we are conscious of the pronouncements and confessions that proceed from our mouths.

Beloved, you need to exercise more caution in time of distress and anger to avoid making negative pronouncements against yourself, your situation, your children and everything that concerns you. When you find yourself in difficult situations, ensure that words you speak profess your faith in God that he is able to do what He says He will do , in spite of the prevailing circumstances around you.

I pray that as you open your mouth today , the Lord will fill it with words that will bring glory to His Name. I pray that you will be able to see the hand of God in evert situation around you through the eyes of faith from now on in Jesus’Name

Verse 1:

How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds

In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

Verse 2:

It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
’Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.

Verse 3:

Jesus! My Shepherd, Husband, Friend,
O Prophet, Priest and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.

Verse 4:

Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I’ll praise Thee as I ought.

Verse 5:

Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath,
And may the music of Thy Name
Refresh my soul in death!

Open Heaven 15 June 2018 MEMORISE:
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. James 4:2

READ: Exodus 15:22-26

22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

Open Heaven 15 June 2018 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 12-13, Acts 10:44-11:18

One deadly habit that is very common among the people of God today is murmuring. Like the Israelites of old, many children of God today engage in it without even realising it! It is indeed a silent destroyer. For this reason, the Holy Spirit warns us against it in 1 Corinthians 10:10, saying:

“Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.”

Do you know that there are times we think we are praying but we are actually murmuring?

In our Bible reading, the children of Israel were at Marah, where they found water that was not drinkable because it was bitter. Despite all that God had done for them, they did not consider that He already knew that they would pass through Marah and would have gone ahead of them to make provision for the water they would drink.

Open Heaven 15 June 2018

All they could think of doing was to murmur about the bitter water. The characters at play in the events that occurred at Marah are indicative of the two types of Christians we have in the Church today. The first type behaves like the multitude who murmured, while the second type behaves like Moses who cried to the Lord for a solution.

It is interesting to note that the murmuring of the multitude was an exercise in futility because their murmurings did not change the bitterness of the water. The prayer of Moses, on the other hand, yielded positive results because his cry to God moved God into action.

God showed him what to do to reverse the situation, and the people’s need for good water was met. This mirrors what is happening with Christians today. We murmur about what we desire and the lack of it, instead of actually asking God and trusting that if He wills, our prayers will be answered.

Beloved, you need to ask yourself today which type of Christian you are between the two types we have considered. I beseech you to examine your prayer life and relationship with God before answering this question.

Are you the type of Christian mentioned in our memory verse, just lusting, desiring and fighting for things but yet getting nothing? You need to ask God to reveal to you the truth on where you stand today. May the Almighty God hear your prayer in Jesus’ Name.

PRAYER POINT – Open Heaven 15 June 2018
Father, please forgive me for all the murmuring I have done against You consciously or unconsciously; I promise not to do so again. Please turn my unpleasant situation around today in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 14 June 2018 Memorise:  But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthains 9:6

1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

Bible in one year: 2 Kings 10 – 11, Acts 10: 24 – 43

Hymnal: Sing Hymn 12

Message – Open Heaven 14 June 2018 Thursday

It may interest you to know that a great number of Christians and Bible Scholars do not understand or refuse to understand the deeper meaning of today’s memory verse.

What does it mean to sow sparingly? sowing sparingly is an act of giving only a little back to God from the resources He has blessed you with. How do you quantify “Little”? “Little” means the smallest part of what you are able to give to God. An illustration of how we are expected to give can be seen in Luke 21:3-4:

“And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had. “

the above scripture can be described as the mathematics of giving from God’s perceptive. The quality of your giving is hidden in what remains in your pocket after you have given to God. Open Heaven 13 June 2018

Our Lord Jesus Christ said that the rich give unto God out of the abundance of what we have (I align myself with the rich in verse 4 because I want to be numbered among the flourishing); whereas, the poor among us, in spite of their need, give all or almost all that they have. This clearly tells us that those of us who are rich should not compare what we give with what others give because we are not all operating on the same level of prosperity.

Do you know that in the parable of the unprofitable servant, if the servant who received five talents had only gained two additional talents, he would have received less commendation than the servant who received two and gain two more (Matthew 25:14-30)? To whom much is given, much is expected. This is the reason why it is dangerous to indulge in self-comparison with others.

Open Heaven 14 June 2018 Thursday

The story of the giving widow also shows that it is wrong for us to despise the poor for giving the little that they have. More often than not, they have given a higher percentage of what they have compared to the rich amongst us. Unfortunately, in our churches today, we no longer see the type of outburst of appreciation that Jesus Christ expressed over the action of the poor widow.

Sadly, instead of commending, we rather despise those who give out of their poor condition. Beloved , the question is, after you have dropped your offering, how much do you have left for wants (not needs)? I appeal to you to sow bountifully into the work of God’s kingdom when next the opportunity comes your way, and you will reap bountifully in Jesus’ Name.

Take my life, and let it be

Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;

Take my moments and my days,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them

move

At the impulse of Thy love;

Take my feet and let them be

Swift and beautiful for Thee,

Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing

Always, only, for my King;

Take my lips, and let them be

Filled with messages from Thee,

Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my sliver and my gold;

Not a mite would I withhold;

Take my intellect, and use

Every power as Thou shalt choose

Every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine;

It shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart; it is Thine own;

It shall be Thy royal throne,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour

At Thy feet its treasure-store.

Take myself, and I will be

Ever, only, all for Thee,

Ever, only, all for thee

Open Heaven 13 June 2018 [Wednesday] – WEARY IN TRIBULATION?

Open Heaven 13 June 2018 Memorise: If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. Proverbs 24:10

Read: 2nd Thessalonians 1:1-12 Open Heaven 13 June 2018

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hymnal: Sing hymn 5

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” John 16:33

Our Lord Jesus Christ never hid from us the truth concerning the Way we have been called to. In the above verse and in several other passages of Scripture, He did not mince words, informing us of the trials, tribulations and persecutions we will face while walking with Him on the straight and narrow way (Mark 10:30, Matthew 24:9). Open Heaven 12 June 2018

Because we are aware of this truth, we should therefore courageously stand firm in the face of trials of our faith in the day of adversity, your strength is small. What do you do when you discover that your strength is small in proportion to the tribulations you are facing?

You cry to God to increase your strength just as our Lord cried to the Father for help in the Garden of Gethsemane, when He was confronted with the great agony of carrying the weight of the sins of the whole world. The Father heard His cry, and He sent an angel to strengthen Him (Luke 22:41-44). What the Father did for Jesus, He will also do for you.

Let us consider some salient points from Paul’s words of encouragement in today’s Bible reading to the brethren in Thessalonica who were facing tribulations. First and foremost, he made them know that the Body of Christ understood what they were passing through and appreciated their endurance in the face of tribulations.

Secondly, he tried to lift their spirit by reminding them that their endurance of tribulation would earn them a place in the kingdom of God, and so they should not be weary. Thirdly, he taught them that God would not allow those who were persecuting them to go unpunished.

The essence of this was to discourage these brethren from seeking to avenge themselves of their persecutors, since vengeance is the Lord’s and He would definitely repay evil men. Furthermore, he reassured them of the prayers of the saints for them.

The heat of those prayers would keep them going irrespective of the cold winds of tribulation blowing against them. The heat of these prayers would keep them going irrespective of the cold winds of tribulation blowing against them.

We must learn from these points not to condemn brethren who are passing through tribulations or trials of faith. There is a tendency for us to always attribute the suffering of the saints to sins they have committed and to condemn them to everlasting “self-examination”.

Instead of attributing their tribulations to sin, the Church took glory in the patience of the Thessalonians in the midst of tribulation (2nd Thessalonians 1:4). Beloved, be encouraged that the difficult phase of life you are passing through will come to an end soon. So, don’t give up! Your Master shares in your tribulation. Be of good cheer because He has overcome the world for your sake.

Sing hymn 5 – I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS

I have decide to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

The world behind me, the cross
Before me;
The world behind me, the cross
before me;
The world behind me, the cross
Before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
Through none go with me, still I
Will follow;
Through none go with me, still I
Will follow;
Through none go with me, still I
Will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.

My cross 1’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross 1’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross 1’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

Will you decide now to follow
Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow
Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow
Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.
