OPEN HEAVEN 14 JANUARY 2024 MEMORIZE: Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14

OPEN HEAVEN 14 JANUARY 2024 BIBLE READING John 5:1-14

After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

OPEN HEAVEN 14 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

In continuation of the discussion about God’s declaration that it shall be well with the righteous (Isaiah 3: 10), it is important to note that the state of a person’s health is another indicator of the fellow’s wellness.

An individual that is always in and out of the hospital because of health challenges cannot say that it is truly well with him or her.

I declare in the mighty name of Jesus that from today onward, you will begin to live insound health.

The story in our Bible reading for today reveals the healing power of our Lord Jesus Christ and also shows that sin can be a source for sickness.

This is the reason the Holy Spirit through the writer of Acts 10:38 said:

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

For you to live a sickness-free life in this new year, you must desist from any sin that might exist in your life.

Confess them to God, ask for His forgiveness, and genuinely repent from them.

If you do not genuinely repent of any sin that exists in your life, you are setting yourself up for great torment by the devil, as Jesus told the sick fellow in our memory verse for today.

Jesus gave a parable about putting new wine into old wine bottles in Luke 5:36-38.

You cannot receive a miracle from God and remain in a sinful state; it is like putting new wine in an old wine bottle.

As Jesus warned in His parable, such a person will surely be destroyed.

In our Bible reading today, Jesus pronounced healing on the sick fellow and, after a while, upon seeing him again, gave him a warning that he should not commit sin again.

A lesson here for us to learn is that it is not enough for a fellow to receive his or her healing or any other miracle and go about committing sin afterwards.

Such a fellow will definitely lose the healing or miracle.

As I have pronounced healing and sound health upon you today, may the Lord keep you away from sin so that you will not lose your miracles to it, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 14 JANUARY 2024 KEY POINT

Sin exposes someone to the demons of infirmity. Repent and be healed, live holy that you may not lose your healing and miracles.

RCCG HYMN 15: Pass Me Not O Gentle Saviour

1 Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Refrain:
Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

2 Let me at a throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief. [Refrain]

3 Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace. [Refrain]

4 Thou the Spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in heav’n but Thee? [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 JANUARY 2024 SATURDAY: DON’T GET CRUSHED 1

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 JANUARY 2024 MEMORIZE: But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: 1 Kings 11:1

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 JANUARY 2024 BIBLE READING 1 KINGS 11:1-11

[1]But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;

[2]Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

[3]And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.

[4]For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

[5]For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

[6]And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.

[7]Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

[8]And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

[9]And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice.

[10]And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.

[11]Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

Sexual sin usually starts from a harmless crush, which can be described as a brief but intense infatuation for someone.

It has the ability to make you lose your sleep until you see or speak with the fellow.

When one of my sons told me that he was always excited to resume in the office every day because he would see his secretary, I knew he would soon get ‘crushed’ by that crush, so I encouraged him to cut off every form of communication with her immediately because the Bible says, “if a hand or an eye will prevent you from making it to Heaven, cut it off or pluck it out” (Matthew 5:28-30).

Thank God he listened to me, and his destiny was preserved.

King Solomon, with all his wisdom, was crushed by his lust for strange women who took his heart away from God.

In the latter days of his life, he shouted in regret, “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2).

My dear child, don’t engage in things that will crush your future. Ignore vanities and focus on doing things that please God.

I pray that your tomorrow will be great in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 JANUARY 2024 ACTION POINT

Be wise, crush that crush now before it crushes you.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 JANUARY 2024 HYMN

And His perfect will.

3 Deeper, deeper! thơ’ it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

4 Deeper, higher ev’ry day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me congueror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.

OPEN HEAVEN 12 JANUARY 2024 FRIDAY

OPEN HEAVEN 12 JANUARY 2024 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: IT SHALL BE WELL 4
MEMORISE: Matthew 17:21
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 17:14-21
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 12 JANUARY 2024 TODAY MESSAGE
Over the past three days, I discussed some things you must do this year for it to be well with you, and they are: living righteously, praising God, and praying fervently.

Today, I will look at fasting as another thing that you should do so as to enjoy all-round wellness.

Our Bible reading for today is an account of the failure of the disciples of Jesus Christ to cast out the demon that was responsible for a young man’s madness.

However, when Jesus intervened, the young man was instantly healed.

Surprisingly, some Bible translations have tried to downplay the importance of fasting and praying in the life of a Christian by deliberately omitting verse 21 from the 17th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. The word of God is settled forever in heaven (Psalm 119:89).

Our Lord Himself did not only pray; he also fasted a great deal (Luke 4:1-2).

Beloved, as you pass through this new year, add fasting to righteous living, prayers and praises to the Almighty God. You will experience His abundant goodness, and it shall be well with you.

Experience has convinced me that fasting does not kill; it can only make you physically and, more importantly, spiritually stronger.

My life is a testimony; I will be 82 years old in a couple of months by the grace of God, and I still fast regularly! I am stronger than many young people who eat three square meals with snacks in-between!

As a young Christian, I did not start with marathon fasting, so if you are not used to the spiritual exercise of fasting, you can start by skipping your breakfast and praying instead.

You can then move to skipping both breakfast and lunch.

Before long, you will graduate to fasting for 24 hours, and then you will graduate to engaging in marathon fasts for days like Jesus Christ, who fasted for forty days and forty nights.

Lastly, I should mention that when you are fasting, you are bound to be hungry. You will need a lot of self-discipline to ensure that you do not break your fasts prematurely.

May God grant you the grace to fast and pray, and it shall indeed be well with you all through this year and beyond, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 12 JANUARY 2024 KEY POINT:
When you fast, you are bound to be hungry. You need self-discipline to overcome the pangs of hunger.

RCCG HYMN 23: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE
1 Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.

2 Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.

3 Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.

4 Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.

5 Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.

6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 12 JANUARY 2024 FRIDAY: SING HYMNS

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 12 JANUARY 2024 MEMORIZE: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 12 JANUARY 2024 BIBLE READING EPHESIANS 5:19-21

[19]Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

[20]Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

[21]Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 12 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

A hymn is a song that gives praise, honour, or thanksgiving to God. After the Last Supper, Jesus and His disciples sang a hymn (Matthew 26:30).

As a Christian, you are to express your faith in songs, but not just any song.

The Bible says that the songs of a Christian must be spiritual as we read in today’s memory verse.

When you are filled with the Spirit, psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs will be the natural expression of your heart.

One clear indication that a fellow is filled with the Holy Spirit is a natural desire to sing and praise God.

Many people wonder why I always compose hymns for every special programme.

It is because I realised the efficacy of hymns early. Hymns are used to extol the greatness of God.

They are also used to console, encourage, teach, and even admonish those who are on the wrong path.

The rhymes and rhythm of hymns give an extraordinary feeling.

I love hymns; in fact, I think we will sing more hymns in Heaven than we have ever sung on earth.

My dear child, if you have not been singing hymns, start today.

RCCG 50 DAYS PRAYERS AND FASTING GUIDE 12 JANUARY 2024

DAY 2: FRIDAY

TOPIC: PRAYER FOR MERCY AND FORGIVENESS
BIBLE TEXT(S): Psa. 51:1-end, Hab. 3:2

INTRODUCTION: God created man in His image and likeness. Man was enjoying smooth fellowship with God before man sinned and fell short of the glory and mercy of God, but God’s thought towards man is of good and not of
evil. God sent His only son, Jesus Christ to pay the price for the sin of man through His mercy, therefore as many that will confess and forsake their sins, the Lord is ready to forgive by His mercy. It is time to cry to God for mercy and forgiveness.

1. Father please have mercy on me and forgive me my sin, in Jesus name. Rom 9:15

2. Father, let mercy reign over judgment in my life, in Jesus name. Jam.2:13

3. Father have mercy on me and forgive me my iniquities, in Jesus name. – Ps.51:1-3

4. Father let Your goodness and mercies follow me all the days of my life, in Jesus name. – Psa 23:6

5. Father, hear the voice of my plea for Your mercy, in Jesus name. – Psa 28:2

6. Father, at every location I have lost Your mercy, please Lord forgive me and restore Your mercy back into my life in Jesus name. Ps.51:12

7. Father, I confess and forsake my sin, please Lord let me obtain mercy and forgiveness in Jesus name. – Pro 28:13

8. Father, with You there is forgiveness. Forgive me Oh Lord the sins of my fathers, in Jesus name. – Psa 130:4, 106:6.

9. Father, mercy and forgiveness belongs unto You. Have mercy and forgive me my sins in Jesus name. – Dan 9:9

10.Father, because Your son’s blood was shed for me, use the blood of your son to cleanse me in Jesus name. – Heb 9:28

11.Father, because You are the God of love and righteousness, forgive us our iniquities and show Your people mercy in Jesus name.

12.Father, let Your mercy be available for me and set me free from where the judgement of the enemy had tied me, in Jesus name. – Ps.130:7-8.

13. Oh my God, in the multitudes of Your mercies please let me obey and serve
You like I have never done before, in Jesus name. – Psa 69:16

14.Father, we ask for Your mercies over every error we have committed in Your church and our gatherings, in Jesus name.

15.Father, as Your wind is blowing, please stretch forth Your hands of mercy and
forgive me all my past errors that have separated me from you, in Jesus
name. – Ps.51:1.

OPENING PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to take responsibility for my actions.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 3:9-13

[9]And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

[10]And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

[11]And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

[12]And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

[13]And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

MEMORY VERSE: And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. Genesis 3:13.

INTRODUCTION: The blame game signifies accusations exchanged among people who refuse to accept responsibility for some undesirable events or outcomes. These people shift fault and liability to another person or thing while they paint themselves as flawless. We need to examine some negative effects of the blame game and learn to take responsibility for our actions instead of passing the buck.
TEACHER’S DIARY

LESSON AIM: To enlighten the students on the negative effect of engaging in the blame game.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
a. Know what the blame game means.
b. State some of the negative effects of the blame game.
c. Mention ways to take responsibility for their actions.

TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above-stated objectives, the teacher should:
a. Allow the students to recite the memory verse, read the Bible passage, contribute to the discussion, do class activities and assignment.

b. Allow the Assistant Teacher to see to the well-being of the class, mark attendance and assignment.

c. Teach the lesson outline, summarise, conclude, evaluate the lesson, and give an assignment.

TEXT REVIEW: Genesis 3:9-13.
A. After Adam and Eve ate the forbidding fruit contrary to God’s command, the following conversation ensued between Adam and God:
i. The LORD God: called unto Adam, and said, Where art thou? V9.
ii. Adam: said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I……………………………….V10.
iii. The LORD God: said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou……..?V11.

B. Then the blame game between Adam and Eve:
i. Adam: said, The woman whom thou gavest ……….V12.
ii. The LORD God: said unto the woman, What is this ……………………………. V13a.
iii. Eve said, The serpent ……………………..V13b.

OUTLINES:
1. NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE BLAME GAME
2. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
1. NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE BLAME GAME
The following, amongst others, are some negative effects of the blame game:
i. Chasing shadows: It makes us leave the main issue and continually look for excuses. For example, a slothful person will rather transfer blame to his boss, colleagues, government, etc. instead of dealing with laziness (Proverbs 20:4).

ii. Stagnation: It keeps us in one spot for a long time. This is counter-productive to human progress. Some people fold their arms to do nothing about their predicament because they blame and believe others are responsible for their conditions (Proverbs 22:13; Ecclesiastes 11:4).

iii. ‘Never wrong’ syndrome: We get quick at clearing ourselves of any wrong while we see every other person as being at fault (1 John 1:8; Genesis 3:12).

iv. Depression: It births unhappiness and despair which can degenerate into depression, ill health, hopelessness, etc.

v. Mental blindness: Like a veil, it prevents one from seeing clearly as the supposed wrong of others are only seen (Matthew 7:3).

vi. Hatred: It produces deep-rooted hatred as the blame gamer condemns or speaks derogatorily about the person being blamed. Hatred is a terrible sin (1 John 3:15).

vii. Pride and Ignorance combined: Pride sets in when we over-rate ourselves. It combines with ignorance because we refuse to be sincere with ourselves (Philippians 2:3).

viii. Ingratitude: Blame gamers are unappreciative as they believe their benefactor can do more (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

ix. Bitterness: Blame gamers become offended and allow bitterness to take an evil root in them (Ephesians 4:31; Hebrews 12:15).

x. Destruction of relationships: It tears relationships through suspicion and a lack of trust (1 Samuel 18:8-9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss how to correct a blame gamer with love.

2. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
1. Taking responsibility for one’s actions or inactions may not be easy but it is worth it in the long run. Hence, we must learn to sincerely acknowledge our wrongs when we are at fault (Psalm 51:4a; 1 Kings 21:29).

OUTLINES
1. NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE BLAME
GAME
2. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY

1. NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE BLAME
GAME
The following, among others, are some negative effects of the blame game
1. Chasing shadows: It makes us leave the main issue and continually look for excuses. For example, a slothful person will rather transfer blame to his boss, colleagues, government, etc. instead of dealing with laziness (Proverbs 20:4).

2. Stagnation: It keeps us in one spot for a long time. This is counter-productive to human progress. Some people fold their arms to do nothing about their predicament because they blame and believe others are responsible for their conditions (Proverbs 22:13; Ecclesiastes
11:4).

3. Never Wrong syndrome: We get quick at clearing ourselves of any wrong while we see every other person as being at fault (1 John 1:8; Genesis 3:12).

4. Depression: It births unhappiness and despair which can degenerate into depression, ill-health, hopelessness, etc.

5. Mental blindness: Like a veil, it prevents one from seeing clearly as the supposed wrong of others are only seen (Matthew 7:3).

6. Hatred: It produces deep-rooted hatred as the blame gamer condemns or speaks derogatorily about the person being blamed. Hatred is a terrible sin (1 John 3:15).

7. Pride and Ignorance combine: Pride sets in when we over-rate ourselves. It combines with ignorance because we refuse to be sincere with ourselves (Philippians 2:3).

8. Ingratitude: Blame gamers are unappreciative as they believe their benefactor can do more (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

9. Bitterness: Blame gamers become offended and allow bitterness to take an evil root in them (Ephesians 4:31; Hebrews 12:15).

10. Destruction of relationships: It tears relationships through suspicion and a lack of trust (1 Samuel 18:8-9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss how to correct blame tamer with love

2. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
Taking responsibility for one’s actions or inactions may not be easy but it is worth it in the long run. Hence, we must learn to sincerely acknowledge our wrongs when we are at fault
(Psalms 51:4a; 1Kings 21:29). We must show a high level of personal accountability for our actions/ inactions even in the face of failure (2
Samuel 12:13). Let us ask God to create a right spirit in us so we are swift to acknowledge that there is a problem when a mistake is made or conflict arises (Psalms 51:10; 2 Samuel 24:17). Identify your role in a blunder and plan on how to avoid a future occurrence (James 1:13-14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share theirBexperiences on what happened when they sincerely own up to a fault.

CONCLUSION: Stop trading blames, take responsibility for your actions/inactions, and be accountable.
