BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 10:31

[31]Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Healthy living is a matter of CHOICE. The Bible admonishes us that everything should be done in moderation. In other words, excess of everything is bad. If one is physically fit, it will determine how one can go spiritually.

LESSON AIM: To equip members with the mindset of living healthy and hygienically.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to know:

• four factors that enhance healthy living.

• the meaning of longevity.

TEXT REVIEW: I Corinthians 10:31

• Everything you do should be for God’s glory.

• There is provision for God to act when you are devoted to His cause.

LESSON OUTLINE ONE

FOUR FACTORS THAT ENHANCE HEALTHY LIVING

• Eat a balanced diet.

The choice of food we eat determines how well we can be. It is good to eat varieties but in small portions to get the essential vitamins, minerals and iron that the body needs than to be full of unheal thy food. Eat what you need and not what you want.

• Take good care of your body

It is good to be physically fit, and this can be achieved by exercising the body regularly. This will help to keep the body in a good shape and the brain in a perfect condition. The body must be kept clean to prevent germs that can cause sicknesses and diseases in the body.

• Keep healthy relationships

He who walks with the wise will become wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed. Those we associate with in life can make or mar us.

• Positive thoughts

The book of Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. “

LESSON OUTLINE TWO

LONGEVITY

Longevity simply means LONGLIFE.

1. Psalms 91:16 says, God will satisfy those who love Him with long life.

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER’S MANUAL 15 OCTOBER 2023

LESSON SEVEN (07)

TOPIC: BIBLICAL DESCRIPTION OF SIN

*SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN*

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,

O how I love Thee well,

I am happy, it makes me glad

To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,

Thy friend friendship suits me well,

Both young and will sing Thy song,

We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,

Christ was Thy first teacher,

The Holy Spirit, great teacher,

Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,

This testimony is sure,

That God, the Father Almighty,

Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,

Though the sun be so bright,

Or if the clouds be black with rain,

I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day

I rejoice to see Thee,

Will thou pass over me today?

Without my being blest?

OPENING PRAYER: Father, give me an understanding of what constitutes sin.

MEMORY VERSE: Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 5:12-15

[12]Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

[13](For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

[14]Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

[15]But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

INTRODUCTION: Sin is described in the Bible as the transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7). Sin had its beginning with Lucifer who was not content with his position; he desired to be higher than God, and that was his downfall (Isaiah 14:12-15). Since the time of Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God, sin has been passed down through all the generations of mankind and we, Adam’s descendants, have inherited sin from him (Romans 5:12).

LESSON AIM: To teach the students the descriptions of sin according to the scripture.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: To teach the students the descriptions of sin according to the scripture.

TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above-stated objectives, the teacher should:

a. Allow the students to recite the memory verse, read the Bible passage, contribute to the discussion, do class activities and assignment.

b. Allow the Assistant Teacher to see to the well-being of the class, mark attendance and assignment.

c. Teach the lesson outlines, summarise, conclude, evaluate the lesson and give an assignment.

TEXT REVIEW: Romans 5:12-15.

A. Apostle Paul while admonishing the Romans says:

i. Wherefore ………………………………………V12.

ii. For until the law …………..………………V13.

iii. Nevertheless death .………..………..V14.

iv. But not as …………………….……….…….V15.

LESSON OUTLINES 1: TYPES OF SIN

1. Inherited Sin: Through Adam, the inherent inclination to sin entered the human race, and we became sinners by nature.

i. When Adam sinned, his inner nature was transformed by his sin of rebellion, bringing to him spiritual death and depravity which would be passed on to all who came after him (Romans 5:12).

ii. We are sinners not because we sin; rather, we sin because we are sinners (Romans 5:19a).

iii. This passed-on depravity is known as inherited sin.

iv. Just as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents, we inherit our sinful nature from Adam (Psalm 51:5).

2. Imputed sin: The Greek word ‘ellogeo’ translated as “imputed” means “lay to one’s charge or credit to one’s account.”

i. Before the Law of Moses was given, sin was not imputed to man, although men were still sinners because of inherited sin (Romans 5:13).

ii.After the law was given, sins committed in violation of the law were imputed (accounted) to them (Romans 5:20a).

iii. Even before transgressions of (disobedience against) the law were imputed to men, the ultimate penalty for sin (death) continued to reign (Romans 5:14).

iv. After Moses (from the dispensation of the law), humans were subject to death both because of inherited sin from Adam and imputed sin from violating the laws of God.

v. God used the principle of imputation to benefit mankind when He imputed the sin of all to the account of Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty for that sin – death – on the cross (1 John 2:2).

vi. It is important to understand that sin was imputed to Him, but He did not inherit it from Adam.

vii. He bore the penalty for sin, but He never became a sinner (2 Corinthians 5:21).

3. Personal sin: This refers to the sins committed every day by human beings.

i. We have inherited a sinful nature from Adam, we commit individual sins, everything from seemingly innocent untruths to murder (1 John 5:17a).

ii. Those who have not placed their faith in Jesus Christ must pay the penalty for these personal sins, as well as inherited and imputed sin (Romans 6:23).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention other types of sin they have come across in the bible.

LESSON OUTLINES 2: REDEMPTION FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN

i.The only just penalty for sin (inherited, imputed, and personal) is death; physical and eternal (Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:11-15).

ii.Thankfully, all three types of sin have been crucified on the cross of Jesus, and now by faith in Jesus Christ as the Saviour we have redemption (Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 3:5).

iii.Once we confess our sins to God and ask for forgiveness for them, we are restored to perfect fellowship and communion with Him (1 John 1:9).

iv.Believers have been freed from the eternal penalty of sin and now have the power through Jesus to refuse to sin (1 John 3:9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share any experience of freedom they had from the claws of sin and the effect on their existence.

SUMMARY: God imputed the righteousness of Christ to believers and credited our accounts with His righteousness, just as He had credited our sins to Christ’s account (2Corinthians 5:21).

QUESTIONS:

* Mention the types of sin.

* Explain the redemption from the penalty of sin.

EVALUATION: Students should mention two types of sin.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, cleanse me from all sin and draw me close to You in Jesus’name.

ASSIGNMENT: Identify five Scriptures that declared believers’ victory over sin. (2×5=10 marks).

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 15 OCTOBER 2023 MEMORIZE: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; He shall not stand before mean men. Proverbs 22:29

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 15 OCTOBER 2023 BIBLE READING 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-7

[4]Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

[5]And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

[6]And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

[7]But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 15 OCTOBER 2023 MESSAGE

As God’s child, you are to be diligent in whatever is committed into your hands – academically, spiritually, et cetera.

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might: for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Ecclesiastes 9:10

The Scripture above emphasizes the need for diligence. In light of today’s text, let us note some things: One, there are many gifts in the body of Christ, and every believer possesses at least one.

Two, it is the Holy Spirit who distributes gifts to every believer as He chooses. Three, there are differences in the administration as well as the division of labour.

Thus, children of God should beware of carrying out too many activities in the Church by themselves so as not to break down in the process, thereby becoming counter-productive.

You must understand that no gift is either superior or inferior to another. Apostle Paul warned against this discrimination in the use of the spiritual gifts.

Beloved, wherever you find yourself, be a team player.

[20]And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.

[21]And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.

[22]And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

[23]And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.

[24]And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

[25]And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.

[26]And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

[27]And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:

[28]Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

[29]Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

[30]And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

[31]And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that thy soul may bless me.

[32]And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

[33]And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 14 OCTOBER 2023 MESSAGE

I once shared a need of the Church with one of my sons, and instead of promptly meeting it because of its urgency, he said he would go and pray about it.

The following week when he came, ready to meet the need, God had already raised someone else to resolve the issue, He felt bad about it but learnt the lesson that the work of God cannot suffer as God will always raise people to do what is needed to be done.

Many children are very slow in acting upon God’s direct instructions or Scriptures, such as in the giving of offerings and tithes or doing good to our neighbours.

Some people waste time thinking about why they should give and the possible outcome of their giving.

When they now decide to give, it is already too late because the one who needed help had already gotten it from another Source or has lost out completely.

May the Lord grant you the grace and wisdom to offer your gifts at a time acceptable unto God, and may He never substitute you for someone else in the name of Jesus.

OPEN HEAVEN 15 OCTOBER 2023 SUNDAY: THE LAND OF ENDLESS SUFFERINGS

OPEN HEAVEN 15 OCTOBER 2023 MEMORIZE: And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:42

OPEN HEAVEN 15 OCTOBER 2023 BIBLE READING MATTHEW 13:24-30, 36-43

OPEN HEAVEN 15 OCTOBER 2023 MESSAGE

Those who don’t end up in the City of God will end up in another place that I cannot describe as a city.

I can only describe it as a place of endless sufferings because it is a land of unimaginable horrors.

All the residents of this horrific place are in constant suffering for eternity. That place is called hell fire (Mark 9:47).

The first thing you need to know about hell fire is that it is a place of torment. Luke 16:23 describes the experience of a man in hell as follows: ‘And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”

All occupants of hell are tormented non-stop. In Mark 9:48, Jesus tells us some of the things that torment them: “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

The passage does not say ‘the worm’ does not die, but ‘their worm’. In other words, worms will be coming out of the body of the people there, and these worms cannot be killed.

They just keep eating their victims up. Also, there is an unquenchable fire there that keeps burning the occupants of hell non-stop. In Matthew 25:41, Jesus said the fire is everlasting.

Revelations 14:11 says the smoke of their torment in hell goes up forever and that there is no rest day or night; the torment just goes on without stopping for eternity.

A drop of water will be a luxury to the people in hell (Luke 16:24). Can you imagine such torment? There is no nightmare that can compare to the actual experience of hell fire.

There are many passages in the Bible where Jesus described hell as a place where there will be a lot of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Even assuming that the torments are the cause of their wailing, what then would make them gnash their teeth? Gnashing of teeth is something people do when they regret their actions or inactions.

The people in hell will be gnashing their teeth for eternity, regretting that they did not live holy lives when they were on earth.

You are still here on earth, so you have the opportunity that those people will give anything to have again. You have the opportunity to repent and start living holy now.

If you delay until it is too late, you would remember this message in hell and wish you had listened. Choose wisely.

OPEN HEAVEN 15 OCTOBER 2023 REFLECTION

Think about it carefully: are you willing to go to hell becasuse of that sin you keep committing? If not, stop it today.

HYMN 20: STAND UP,STAND UP FOR JESUS

1 Stand up! stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the Cross!
Lift high His royal banner;
It must not suffer loss.
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till ev’ry foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.

2 Stand up! stand up for Jesus,
The trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict,
In this His glorious day;
Ye that are men now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger,
And strength to strength oppose.

3 Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own:
Put on the gospel armor,
Each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls or danger,
Be never wanting there.

4 Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh,
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory
Shall reign eternally.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 OCTOBER 2023 BIBLE READING GENESIS 27:20-33

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 13 OCTOBER 2023 MESSAGE

I once shared a need of the Church with one of my sons, and instead of promptly meeting it because of its urgency, he said he would go and pray about it.

The following week when he came, ready to meet the need,God had already raised someone else to resolve the issue, He felt bad about it but learnt the lesson that the work of God cannot suffer as God will always raise people to do what is needed to be done.

HYMN 5 – TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

1. Take my life and let it
Consecrated Lord to Thee
Take my moment and my days
Let them flow ceaseless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for thee

3. Take my voice and let me sing
Always only for my king;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my sliver and my gold
Not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall no longer mine:
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for thee

BIBLE PASSAGE:Romans 5:12-15

[12]Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—

[13](For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

[14]Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

[15]But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

MEMORY VERSE: “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.” 1 John 3:4 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: Sin is described in the Bible as a transgression of the law of God (1John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7). Sin had its beginning with Lucifer who was not content with his position, as he desired to be higher than God, and that was his downfall (Isaiah 14:12-15). Since the time of Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God, sin has been passed down through all the generations of mankind and we (Adam’s descendants) have inherited sin from him (Romans 5:12).

OUTLINES:

1.TYPES OF SIN

2. REDEMPTION FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN

1. TYPES OF SIN

1.Inherited Sin: Through Adam, the inherent inclination to sin entered the human race, and we became sinners by nature (Romans 5:19a). When Adam sinned, his inner nature was transformed by his sin of rebellion, bringing to him spiritual death and depravity which would be passed on to all who came after him (Romans 5:12). We are sinners “not because we sin”; rather, we sin because we are sinners (Romans 5:19a). This passed-on depravity is known as “inherited sin.” Just as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents, we inherit our sinful nature from Adam and Eve (Psalm 51:5).

2.Imputed sin: The Greek word ‘ellogeo’ translated as “imputed” means “lay to one’s charge or credit to one’s account.” Before the Law of Moses was given, sin was not imputed to man, although men were still sinners because of inherited sin (Romans 5:13). After the law was given, sins committed in violation of the law were imputed (accounted) to them (Romans 5:20a). Even before transgressions of the law were imputed to men, the ultimate penalty for sin (death) continued to reign (Romans 5:14). After Moses, humans were subject to death both because of inherited sin from Adam and imputed sin from violating the laws of God.

God used the principle of imputation to benefit mankind when He imputed the sin of all to the account of Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty – death on the cross – for man’s sin (1 John 2:2). It is important to understand that sin was imputed to Him, but He did not inherit it from Adam. He bore the penalty for sin, but He never became a sinner (2Corinthians 5:21).

3. Personal sin: This refers to the sins committed every day by human beings. We have inherited a sinful nature from Adam, we commit individual sins, everything from seemingly innocent untruths to murder (1 John 5:17a). Those who have not placed their faith in Jesus Christ must pay the penalty for these personal sins, as well as inherited and imputed sins (Romans 6:23).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention other types of sin they have come across in the Bible.

2. REDEMPTION FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN

The only just penalty for sins (inherited, imputed, and personal) is death; physical and eternal (Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:11-15). Thankfully, all the three types of sin have been crucified on the cross by Jesus, and now by faith in Jesus Christ as the Saviour, we have redemption (Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 3:5). Once we confess our sins to God and ask for forgiveness for them, we are restored to perfect fellowship and communion with Him (1 John 1:9). Believers have been freed from the eternal penalty of sin and now have the power through Jesus to refuse to sin (1 John 3:9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share any experience of freedom they had from the claws of sin and the effect on their existence.

CONCLUSION: God imputed the righteousness of Christ to believers and credited our accounts with His righteousness, just as He had credited our sins to Christ’s account (2 Corinthians 5:21)

QUESTIONS:

* Mention the types of sin.

* Explain the redemption from the penalty of sin.

OPEN HEAVEN 14 OCTOBER 2023 BIBLE READING ISAIAH 60:17-21

17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.

18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified

OPEN HEAVEN 14 OCTOBER 2023 MESSAGE

There is more to that glorious city I told you about yesterday. Apart from all the material and emotional benefits of being in that city, the weather there is perfect.

There is neither extreme cold nor heat; everything is just perfect. In fact, all the heat you endure from our sun here is not there because there is no sun.

The source of its light is glory, as seen in the memory verse of today.

Imagine a place where everything is perfect, including the weather. A city where everything is flawless. In this city, animals that we currently fear and refer to as wild animals will no longer be feared.

Isaiah 11:6-8 says: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den”.

This indeed, is one city that is worth sacrificing everything to get into. That is why Jesus said that it would be a great loss if a person were to gain the whole world and yet lose his soul (Mark 8:36).

This is because everything in this world is of no value when compared to life in The City of God.

Don’t let anything stop you from ending up in this city. You must be so desperate that if your hand would hinder you from entering the city, you should cut it off.

If your eye would hinder you from entering the city, you should pluck it out (Matthew 18:9).

Beloved, stay completely away from sin so that you can end up in this glorious city. It is worth it to sacrifice everything you have today just to end up in this city.

No amount of money, fame, power or material possession should stop you from making it to heaven.

Nothing at all is worth sacrificing your opportunity to get into this glorious city where the Lord Himself is the light; nothing at all.
