OPENING PRAYER: Father, please open my heart to understand more about fasting and prayers.

MEMORY VERSE: “Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel 9:3 (NKJV).

BIBLE PASSAGE: Daniel 10:2-3
[2]In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks.

[3]I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

INTRODUCTION: Fasting, in the Bible, is total abstinence from pleasure-giving activities for a set time for the purpose of devoting oneself to seeking God. While there are many ways believers could fast, too often the focus is on abstinence from food. In this lesson, we shall examine different types of biblical fast, basic cautions, and reasons for fasting.

TEXT REVIEW: Prophet Daniel was a man full of God’s spirit and wisdom. In many ways, he proved his unwavering devotion to God. One of such ways is through fasting, which he records that:
i. He mourned for three full weeks, V2.
ii. He ate no pleasant bread. V3a.
iii. Neither came flesh ………………………………………….V3b.
iv. Neither did he ………………………………………………V3c.
v. ……………. ………………………………….V3d.

OUTLINES:
1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE
2. REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS

1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE
Teachers should emphasise the following types of fast in the bible:
A. Food fast – This is abstinence from food/drinks. It may take the form of:
i. Regular fast: This is done by abstaining from all food, both solid and liquid. (2Chron.20:3). The fast is usually broken daily or periodically (Jer. 36:6).

ii. Partial fast: This is inspired by Prophet Daniel. All meat and animal products are disallowed. The Daniel Fast includes vegetables, legumes, whole grains, seeds, and water. These guidelines are based on Daniel’s request of “nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink” (Dan. 1:8-14).

iii. Absolute or full fast: Where no food or water is consumed (Esth. 4:16; Acts 27:33). For instance, Moses, Elijah, and the Lord Jesus Christ did forty days absolute fast (Deut. 9:9; 1Kgs.19:7-8; Lk.4:2).

B. Sex fast: The Bible also makes reference to ‘sexual fast’ in Exodus 19:15. Married couples can mutually agree to abstain from sex for a short period of time in order to devote themselves to prayers (1Cor.7:5).

C. ‘Pleasure’ fast: Another way is to confine or isolate oneself from people and pleasurable things to a place as a means of worship, studying the Bible, and praying to God for a purpose (Lk.2:36-37; 5:16).Time alone with God requires discipline and avoidance of distractions.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention which of these fast they have had.

2..REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS
A. Fasting is far more about focus on God than abstinence from food or other things that give pleasure (Zech.7:5). People fast for various reasons, here are some of them:
i. Spiritual strength (Isa.40:30-31).

ii. Supernatural revelation, wisdom and understanding (Ezr.8:21; Dan.9:22).

iii. Supernatural breakthrough (Zech.8;19).

iv. Repentance from sinful ways (Joel 2:12-13;
Dan.9:3-5).

v. Spiritual hunger and demonstration of love for God’s people and burden for souls (2 Cor.11:27-28; Matt.5:6).

vi. Sharing with the poor and destruction of wicked works (Isa.58:6-7).

vii. Subduing of the flesh (1 Cor.9:27).

viii. Bridling of the tongue, taming of the temper and moving ‘stubborn mountains’ (Matt.17:14-21).

B. Believers should exercise some caution while fasting. For instance;
i. Fasting should be limited to a set time and for a clear purpose (1Cor.7:5; Esth.4:16).

ii. It is neither intended to punish the body nor a
dieting method (Isa.58:5) but to redirect attention to God.

iii. It is a period to give up self – indulging activities – for a deeper fellowship with God (Matt.4:1-2).

C. Believers should take note of the following:
i. Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food, maybe for health related issues.

ii. However, everyone can temporarily give up something in order to draw closer to God (Ex.19:15).

iii. Biblical fast is to be done in a spirit of humility and joyfulness (Matt. 6:16-18).

iv. It should not be to manipulate God or do evil (Isa.58:4; Acts 23:21).

v. In breaking an ‘absolute and long fast,’ warm liquids, (not carbonated drinks) are advised and should be taken in bits.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Does inability to spend quality time in prayer nullify fast?

CONCLUSION: Ask God for wisdom (Jam.1:5) as regards how and for how long and what purpose He wants you to fast.

EVALUATION: Mention three reasons why believers fasted in the Bible.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, help me to always keep my focus on you as I add fasting to my prayers in Jesus’ name.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five benefits you have derived or will derive from biblical fast (2×5=10 marks).

MEMORY VERSE: “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Isaiah 66:10-14

[10]Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

[11]That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

[12]For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.

[13]As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

[14]And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies.

INTRODUCTION: Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. However, when there is an uncomfortable or prolonged delay, weariness and heaviness of heart may set in. Sometimes, while in this valley of life, we fast, pray, work smart and even sow seeds of faith in our bid to find solutions, yet, there might still be a delay. In this lesson, we shall consider biblical examples and winning strategies while waiting.

TEXT REVIEW: Isaiah 60:10-14.
This Scripture gives hope to those who are experiencing delayed hope. The teacher should identify five (5) of such word of hope from the passage.

LESSON OUTLINES: 1. SOME BIBLICAL INSTANCES
I. Mention some Bible characters who, despite their relationship with God, waited painfully and hoped patiently for their expectations to be met and were not disappointed in the long run (Prov.23:18; Rom.5:5). For instance:
a. Abraham/Sarah and Hannah waited long for the ‘fruit of the womb’ (Gen.15:2; 1Sam.1:2).

b. David hoped painfully for deliverance from King Saul and his enemies (1Sam.19:18; Ps.3:1).

c. Joseph had a dream that he would be great but was thrown into the pit, sold into slavery and imprisoned (Gen.37:5).

d. Job lost his children, business, and health suddenly and hoped for restoration (Job1:13-20; 14:7, 14).

e. The children of Israel laboured and suffered for 430years in Egypt before God sent Moses to liberate them (Ex.12:40).

f. The widow of the indebted prophet was exhausted until she cried to the prophet (2 Kgs.4:1).

II. At the end of the day, God changed their stories:
a. Abraham/Sarah and Hannah were visited by God and they got Isaac (Gen.21:1-5). Hannah received her testimony son (1Sam.1:20).

b. David later got his deliverance and became a king (2Sam.6:21).

c. Joseph’s dream became a reality. He became the ruler over the realm of Egypt and his brothers bowed to him (Gen.42:6-7).

d. God blessed the end of Job more than his beginning (Job 42:10).

e. The Israelites eventually got delivered from the Egyptians (Ex.14:26-29).

f. The indebted widow of the prophet received divine assistance (2Kgs.4:1-7).

III. Waiting patiently on God in times of distress is key (Isa.40:28-31).

BIBLE PASSAGE: Daniel 10:2-3
[2]In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks.

[3]I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

MEMORY VERSE: “Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel 9:3 (NKJV).

OUTLINES:
1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE
2. REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS

1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE
1. Food fast – This is abstinence from food/drinks. It may take the form of:
i. Regular fast: This is done by abstaining from all food, both solid and liquid. (2Chr.20:3). The fast is usually broken daily or periodically (Jer. 36:6).

iii. Absolute or full fast: Where no food or water is consumed (Esth. 4:16; Acts 27:33). For instance, Moses, Elijah, and the Lord Jesus Christ did a forty-day absolute fast (Deut. 9:9; 1 Kgs. 19:7-8; Lk. 4:2).

2. Sex fast – The Bible also makes reference to ‘sexual fast’ (Ex. 19:15), married couples can mutually agree to abstain from sex for a short period of time in order to devote themselves to prayers (1Cor. 7:5).

3. ‘Pleasure’ fast – Another way is to confine or isolate oneself from people and pleasurable things to a place as a means of worship, studying the Bible, and praying to God for a purpose (Lk.2:36-37; 5:16).Time alone with God requires discipline and avoidance of distractions.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention which of these fast they have had.

2. REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS
Fasting is far more about focus on God than abstinence from food or other things that give pleasure (Zech.7:5). Also, people fast for various reasons. Some for spiritual strength (Isa.40:30-31), supernatural revelation, wisdom and understanding (Ezr.8:21; Dan.9:22), supernatural breakthrough (Zech.8;19) repentance from sinful ways (Joel 2:12-13; Dan.9:3-5), spiritual hunger and demonstration of love for God’s people and burden for souls (2Cor.11:27-28; Matt.5:6) and sharing with the poor and destruction of wicked works, among others (Isa.58:6-7). Fasting helps to subdue the flesh (1 Cor.9:27), to bridle your tongue, to tame your temper and to move ‘stubborn mountains’ (Matt.17:14-21).
Believers should exercise some caution while fasting. For instance, fasting should be limited to a set time and for a clear purpose (1Cor.7:5; Esth.4:16). It is neither intended to punish the body nor a dieting method (Isa.58:5) but to redirect attention to God. It is a period to give up self – indulging activities – for a deeper fellowship with God (Matt.4:1-2). Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food-maybe for health related issues. However, everyone can temporarily give up something in order to draw closer to God (Ex.19:15). Biblical fast is to be done in a spirit of humility and joyfulness (Matt. 6:16-18). It should not be to manipulate God or do evil (Isa.58:4; Acts 23:21).

QUESTIONS:
* Mention the types of fast in the Bible
* Mention three reasons why believers fasted in the Bible.

OPEN HEAVEN 24 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

If you have chosen someone to be your pastor, then it is only right that you obey him or her. There are many people who call me Daddy and say I am the spiritual authority over them but I know that they are only deceiving themselves because they do not obey my instructions when they are contrary to what they want.

If you don’t obey the fellow with spiritual authority over you, then you are not really under his covering. Obey your pastor so that whatever God wants to give you through him or her can get to you.

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. – (Hebrews 13:17)

A pastor’s work becomes easy when he or she has a cooperative congregation who practice what they are taught from the pulpit. When you hear a message from the altar that is in line with the word of God, do it. If I show you in the Scriptures where God says you should do that thing, then you have to obey. If you disobey the word of God from the altar, it is not really the pastor you are disobeying but the Lord who sent him.

There are many people who obey the word of God partially. They obey the Scriptures they find convenient and ignore the rest. The reason many of such people don’t get their expected results as Christians is that their obedience is not complete. Until your obedience is complete, you cannot resist the devil and see him flee. James 4:7 says you must submit to God first.

Please my beloved, don’t be stubborn like the Israelites, constantly provoking Moses to the point where he eventually got angry and took an action that caused God to prevent him from entering into the Promised land (Numbers 20:1-12). Don’t discourage or provoke your pastor; rather, encourage him or her by submitting to his or her authority (Philemon 1:21).

Habits are actions that are repeatedly carried out, which can be good or bad. Most  times, they are formed because of the influence someone has on another person. For example, a child who sees his/her parents reading or praying daily will probably imitate the action and eventually make it a lifestyle. Also, if a boy sees his father taking alcohol daily, he will probably follow that path.

Today’s Bible text reveals that bad habits are sins that begin with thoughts. For you not to be ensnared as a child of God, it’s better to stop the thoughts in your mind before they become completed in actions. This is why Romans 12:2 commands us to renew our minds constantly.

Overcoming a bad habit requires a change in lifestyle and the environment that encourages it. Spend time in prayer and be honest about your failures. Also, develop new friendships with more mature Christians who will encourage and Support you to obey God.

Powerful Declarations For today 22 June 2023

Prophetic Declarations For This Week By Apostle Joshua Selman

Let’s Pray!

Let God arise, and the enemies be scattered: let them also that hate Him flee before Him.

As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.

Sing unto God, sing praises to His name: extol Him that rideth upon the heavens by His name JAH, and rejoice before Him.

My most precious father I give You all the praise. I give You all the glory and honour for this new day which we have given Unto Me.

Oh Lord forgive me for every sin I have committed. Wash me clean and help me to live a holy life in the name of Jesus.

Father, as I worship and seek Your face today, please arise and take all the Glory.

Oh Lord, as I begin to sing and to praise, set ambushments against every evil conspiracy against me, and every adversarh fighting me in Jesus’ name.

Father, help me to guide my actions and never pick the devil’s side. May I not live according to the dictates of my flesh and commit sin. Help me to stay away from sin, that I may end up victorious and make it to heaven at the end in Jesus’ name.

Oh Lord, arise in Your power and bring down every leader, ruler, adversary, and oppressor claiming to be You and fighting Your work and children in Jesus name!

Father, may I never fight Your work and Your agenda. I will always be on the Lord’s side in Jesus’ name.

My Lord and my God, help me to always see Your greatness and stand in awe of You in Jesus name!

Father, help me to serve You and You alone in the name of Jesus

Lord, help me to hearken diligently to Your word daily in and let that lead me to an abundant life in Jesus’ name!

Oh Lord, destroy every power of darkness at work in my life. Let them be nullified in the mighty name of Jesus.

My Lord and my God, by the power in the name and the blood of Jesus, let every effect of darkness at work in my life be brought down to nothing in the name of Jesus!

Lord, bless Your son Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye for all his years of continual service, remember him, guide him on the path, help him remain focused, and bless his entire household, in Jesus’ name.

( Philippians 4:6)

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

(John 14:13-14; 15:16)

Thank you Father for answered prayers.

Prophetic Declarations For This Week By Apostle Joshua Selman

Let’s Declare!

Oh Lord, I worship You and exalt You, You are the greater than the greatest, older than the oldest, richer than the richest, and wiser than the wisest. You are trustworthy, reliable and dependable.

I decree and declare that I take sides with the heavenly hosts and not the demonic hosts in Jesus’ name.

I decree and declare that because I am on the Lord’s side, God steps into my situation. I surrender to Him willingly, therefore anyone who comes against me and tries to hurt me will be destroyed in Jesus’ name.

I decree and declare that I am on the Lord’s side and my actions prove it. I stay away from sin and cling to Jesus Christ daily. I pray, study my bible, and do all that God requires of me daily in Jesus name.

I decree and declare that everyone who fights the work of God in my life and family goes down in the mighty name of Jesus!

I decree and declare that I will always be on the Lord’s side. I will never be against Him in Jesus name.

I decree and declare that torture and torment have ended in my life because God has risen for my sake in the name of Jesus.

I decree and declare that my problems are over, my shame is turned around into beauty, for God arises for my sake as I praise him.

I decree and declare that my worship and songs of praises rise up to God. Therefore everyone who fights me is fighting God and will have God to contend with in Jesus mighty name!

I decree and declare that I fix my thoughts on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; and of virtue in Jesus’ name.

I decree and declare that I do not shut my eyes at the cry of people in need in the name of Jesus.

I declare that everywhere I go, and to everyone I come in contact with, my thoughts and actions are just and fair in the name of Jesus.

I decree and declare that I have put off lies from my life because lie is of the old man that is in sin and I am a new creature in Christ in the Name of Jesus.

I declare that dishonesty is far from my mind, my mouth, and my life in Jesus mighty name.

I decree and declare that I meditate on the Word of God always. I do not let anything outside of the Word dwell in my mind in the Name of Jesus!

Thank You Lord for all of Your Words that have been spoken in my life. I know You are well able to fulfill them. Thank You Lord in Jesus name.

I decree and declare according to the word of God that all my needs are supplied according to God’s riches in glory in the name of Jesus.

I decree and declare that I am the head and not the tail. I am never a failure for God is with me everywhere I go in the name of Jesus!

I decree and declare that no weapon fashioned against me shall prosper therefore, no one can harm me.

Thank You, Father, for your son Pastor E. A. Adeboye and his household, and how You keep using him worldwide.

I decree and declare heaven responds to these prayers and declarations as I say them and I receive answers in Jesus’ name.

Thank You, Lord, for everyone in this community (RCCGONLINE.ORG).

Thank You Holy Spirit for all the testimonies and miracles coming through these declarations. May they be permanent in Jesus’ name.

Father, let everybody joining in to say these declarations all over the world experience great miracles throughout this month. May we have numerous testimonies in Jesus’ name.

Somebody shout Hallelujah!

See you tomorrow!

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 22 JUNE 2023 THURSDAY

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 22 JUNE 2023 MEMORIZE: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 22 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING 1 PETER 5:5

[5]Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 22 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

There is something in the life of a Christian that makes him/her crave intimacy with Christ. We can pursue God on our own, but He created us for relationships, and He can choose to use an elderly believer to guide a younger believer in the process of growth.

As a young Christian, I realized early enough that I couldn’t grow without the tutelage of mentors, so I employed the following ways to find them:

1. Seek a relationship: It is very rare to find a serious spiritual mentor who is not also working on his/her growth. So, rather than expect him/her to search for you, you should be the one seeking to get closer. When my father-in-the-Lord was alive, I was always around him to get all the knowledge, impartation, discipline, anointing, et cetera, needed to run the race.

2. Seek resources: The knowledge of a man can be transferred to his/her readers or listeners through their books/sermons. Therefore, you must be very selective in your choice of mentors and the content you are interacting with. Many ministers of God have mentored me through theirnbooks, sermons, podcasts, and YouTube messages. You can be mentored likewise.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 22 JUNE 2023 PRAYER POINT

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 22 JUNE 2023 HYMN

HYMN 16 – BREATHE ON ME

1. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love the way you love,
And do what you would do.

2. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until my will is one with yours,
To do and to endure.

3. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with you the perfect life
For all eternity.

OPEN HEAVEN 23 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING PSALMS 84:1-12

OPEN HEAVEN 23 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

The greatest experiences a man can have in life are drawn from the moments he spends alone with God. Those are times when destinies are shaped. If you look through the Scriptures and study people who achieved great feats for God, you will notice that all of them spent quality time alone with God.

In Exodus 24:18, Moses had been on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights spending time alone with God. No wonder he is the only man who ever saw God. After seeing the back of God in Exodus 33:23, the Bible says the glory that shone on his face was so bright that people could not look at him. That is what happens when you spend time with God: His glory rubs off on you and it is evident to everyone around you.

Many times when the Bible talks about Elijah, he was on the mountain top. You go to the mountain top because you want to get away from where people are so that you can be alone with God.

What was the result of Elijah’s constant fellowship with God? He could call down fire from heaven anytime he wanted. He was also the first prophet to ever bring the dead back to life. It is in those times that you spend with God that He enlarges your capacity to do greater things than you used to.

Joseph was a very busy man in Potiphar’s house, overseeing his master’s many great possessions. All that time that he was busy, he didn’t grow beyond being a dreamer. When he was locked up in prison however, he had time to be alone with God and grew from being a dreamer to becoming an interpreter of dreams.

Your greatest potential will only be realised when you spend quality time alone with God. During Jesus’ earthly ministry, He never joked with His quiet time (Luke 6:12, 21:37). No wonder He was able to fulfil His destiny as tough as it was.

Be intentional about spending quality time with God – praising Him, praying, fasting, studying and meditating on His word. Don’t joke with your quiet time with God, it is your most important meeting every day.
