OPEN HEAVEN 22 MAY 2023 MESSAGE

You should do a thorough check on your friends to see if they are headed for heaven. There are some people who should clearly be avoided, while others may look good on the outside but deep inside, are not who they pretend to be. You need to stay away from such friends.

There are some character flaws you should look out for and ensure you do not keep people who have such as friends. For example, if your friend’s temper runs hot, stay away from him or her, so you don’t learn his or her ways and ensnare your soul (Proverbs 22:24-25).

Many years ago, I was working as a teacher and befriended a colleague who was from the same part of the country as I. I however, didn’t know much about him. One day on our way to Ibadan for a teachers’ programme, we got off the lorry in Ile-Ife, where we would board another to Ibadan.

This friend of mine then said he wanted to say hello to a chief nearby and asked me to come along. I did, after all, we were friends. We got there, he knocked on a door and was asked a strange question from inside, “Is it a fish or a crab?” My friend answered and said, “One fish and one crab”. We were let in, but as we left, I began to wonder what this strange statement meant.

When we arrived in Ibadan, he said he wanted to visit another fellow. I followed him, he knocked at the door and was asked, “Who is that, a goat or a sheep?” My friend answered, “One goat, one sheep”. By now, I was seriously troubled.

I got home and asked the elders what the statements meant. They said, knowingly, “Ah, where did you hear that?” That was the end of my friendship with that fellow. Up to today, I don’t understand what those statements really meant, but I didn’t have to be told that they were occultic and dangerous.

Check your friends, be watchful and careful. The Bible says evil communication corrupts good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33). The Romans used to say, “As bad apples spoil good ones, so do bad friends spoil good boys”. Before today is out, do a thorough check on all your friends. If there are some that are not living a holy life, preach the word of God to them and if they refuse to change, please separate yourself from such persons immediately.

OPEN HEAVEN 23 MAY 2023 MESSAGE

Every truly wise person knows that the Maker of heaven and earth should be feared. This is why proverbs 9:10 says: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

There is no greater foolishness than disregard for God. How can you fear people who are limited in power and authority, then have no fear for the One who can do as He pleases, who is answerable to no one (Daniel 4:35)?

If you can fear those who can kill your body, how much more the One who can destroy both your body and soul in hell (Matthew 10:28)? God should never be toyed with. I know there are people who tell you that you are not to fear God, but to just reverence Him. I don’t know if they read that from their Bible, but my own Bible does not say the reverence of God is the beginning of wisdom, but rather, the fear of the Lord.

I don’t play carelessly with fire. No matter how cold I get, I don’t put my hand in it because I fear it. Our God is the Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29). You should therefore not only reverence Him, but fear Him also. Even a mad dog recognises fire when it sees it and does not play carelessly with it.

If you don’t fear God, you are capable of doing any evil. The interesting thing is that, whether you fear fire or not, if you touch it, it will burn you. If, as a result of the fact that you have no fear of God you continue to commit sin, it is only a matter of time before the repercussions would start coming.

A person may enjoy the pleasures of sin here on earth, and may even be popular for being such a great sinner, but a time is coming when the person will leave this world and then face the judgement of God which will lead to eternal damnation for such a person.

Beloved, it is better to fear God, live holy and receive eternal life than to disregard Him here on earth and spend eternity burning in the lake of fire. Choose wisely.

Let’s Pray!

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all my iniquities; who heals all my diseases;

Oh Lord, forgive me of all my trespasses and help me to stay away from sin and iniquity in the name of Jesus.

Father, grant me grace to truly and indeed be dead unto sin, and to be alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord in Jesus’ name.

Lord, please do not let sin reign in my mortal body, may I not obey its lust thereof in Jesus’ name.

Father, help me to see Grace as the supernatural ability given to me by You to live in constant obedience and above sin and not a license to sin in Jesus’ name.

Father, please put an end to every form of lust in my life, in Jesus’ name.

O Lord, please grant me the grace to stay away from every form of lust. Please strengthen me and make me disciplined enough to keep my body which is Your temple in Jesus’ name.

Lord, please help me to understand that it is wisdom to run away from sin because the Bible says “The wages of sin is death…” May I constantly be reminded that s*xual immorality is forbidden; and may I always seek godly wisdom to avoid this deadly sin in Jesus’ name.

Father, please help me and my family to stay very far away from s*xual sin. Help us to watch the type of content we consume and to be mindful of our physical and social interactions. May we constantly fill our hearts with the word of God so we do not sin against You in Jesus’ name.

Father, please don’t let me become a victim or captive to s*xual immorality, in Jesus’ name.

Oh Lord, let hope rise in every seemingly hopeless situation in my life right now in the mighty name of Jesus.

Father, let this month spring forth a new season of fresh hope for my family in the name of Jesus.

Father, in every way I’ve been lacking and managing, let me step into abundance and have more than enough to enjoy and bless lives in the name of Jesus.

Verse 9 of today’s Bible reading perfectly describes the character of an unfriendly friend. In the world today, social media has caused the real meaning of friendship to fade away. It is becoming difficult to claim you have friends because many people are deceitful.

However, before you point accusing fingers at some of your friends, are you a true friend? If you backstab your friends, speak ill of them in their absence or fail to help when you have what it takes to help, you are an unfriendly friend.

Regardless of the disadvantages of having friendships with the wrong people, particularly unfriendly friends, you can’t avoid making friends.

Thus, be prayerful and prudent in your choice of friends. Even Jesus, out of the multitude, had seventy followers, from which He had twelve disciples. Out of the 12 disciples, He had three close friends, and out of the three close ones, He had just one favourite. So, be mindful of your close circle and your actions towards them.

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, grant all parents the grace to please You in their relationship with their children.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Mark 10:13-16

[13]And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

[14]But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

[15]Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

[16]And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

MEMORY VERSE: “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:6.

INTRODUCTION: According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, a child is “a young person especially between infancy and youth.” Child abuse is any maltreatment of a child which causes him/her harm. Such action can also take the form of child neglect or failure to protect a child from danger especially by a parent or other caregivers. The Bible tells us that whosoever harms a child is asking for God’s anger (Mark 9:42).

TEACHING OBJECTIVES:
Through this lesson, students should be able to:
a. Understand the forms and signs of child abuse concept
b. Discover the ways to prevent child abuse

TEACHING PLAN:
To attain the above-stated objectives, the teacher should:

a. Allow the student to take the opening prayer together, read the Bible passage, review the previous week’s lesson, and make contributions to the lesson.

b. Allow students to bear their experience(s) on each of the elements of child abuse so identified

c. Guide the discussion and apply corrections as appropriate.

d. Summarize, conclude, evaluate the lesson, give assignment and allow the Assistant Teacher to take the closing prayer.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: FORMS OF CHILD ABUSE
-The teacher should group child abuse into three broad categories as follows:
i. Physical abuse
ii.Sexual abuse
iii. Emotional abuse
-The teacher should allot each element of the child abuse under each category to students to discuss. The forms and elements of child abuse are stated below:
I. Physical Abuse:
i. Excessive beating of a child.
ii.Throwing of object at child, poisoning, child labour e.g. trafficking, hawking.
iii. Neglecting to give the child basic necessities of life like food, clothing, shelter, education, health care etc.
iv. Use of drugs, alcohol or any substance that will cause the child distress.

The teacher should use 1 Kings 3:19; 25-
26; and Mark 9:24 to buttress the points.

II. Sexual Abuse:
-The teacher should identify the following elements of sexual abuse and call students to discuss their impacts on the affected child.
i. Fondling of a child’s sexual organs.
ii. Pornography.
iii. Rape.
iv. Defilement of a child.

The teacher should use 2 Samuel 13:10-15 to buttress the points.

III. Emotional/Psychological Abuse:
a.Teasing and bullying.
b.Threat.
c. Verbal abuse/cursing.
d. Belittling.
e. Blaming/Finding fault.

The teacher should use 1Samuel 17:26-28 to buttress the points.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: SIGNS AND PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE
A.The teacher should explain the following signs of child abuse to the students.
i. Aggressive behaviour.
ii. Low self-esteem.
iii. Sleeping difficulties.
iv. Unexplainable bruises, burns or swelling.
v. Lack of concentration.
vi. Inclination to crime.
vii.Deformation or death.

B. The teacher should allow students to discuss how the following items stated below can prevent child abuse:
a. Early education, identification and intervention.
b. Break the silence i.e. reporting abuse appropriately.
c. Train the child in a godly way. Prov.22:6
d. Correction to wrong doing should be directed towards healing and reforming and not destroying. (Teacher to explain).

SUMMARY: No child abuse of any form is allowed.

CONCLUSION: Child abuse is a menace that must be dealt with holistically in the fear of God.

EVALUATION: Identify the forms and solutions to child abuse

CLOSING PRAYER: God, please save our children from child abuse.

ASSIGNMENT: Give five (5) reasons people abuse children. (2×5=10 Marks).

Father, let the sins of fornication, idolatry, adultery, abuse, stealing, covetousness, drunkenness, and the likes be far from me in Jesus’ name

Oh Lord, check my heart, prune it, and remove every atom of lust and sexual sin in it in Jesus’ name.

Father, everything fueling an inordinate affection and desire for the opposite sex in me take it away in Jesus’ name.

Father, work on me from within and let me be pure. Do not let me lust after anyone that is not my marriage partner that will make me err from the faith and be pierced with many sorrows in the name of Jesus.

Oh Lord, may my only panting and desire be to see Your Kingdom in the name of Jesus.

Father, help me to look at what I have and be grateful. May I not be an ungrateful and greedy person in Jesus’ name.

Oh Lord, help me to amass wealth where it is necessary – in heaven and not just wealth on earth that will be consumed in Jesus’ name.

Oh Lord, as I abide in You, help me to bear fruits and let my fruits last in Jesus’ name.

Lord, bless Your son Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye for all his years of continual service, remember him, guide him on the path, help him remain focused, and bless his entire household, in Jesus’ name.

Father, bless everyone dedicating their time to pray through these prayers at the point of their needs. Give them the grace to share/rebroadcast, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Mark 10:13-16

INTRODUCTION: According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, a child is “a young person especially between infancy and youth.” Child abuse is any maltreatment of a child which causes him/her harm. Such action can also take the form of child neglect or failure to protect a child from danger especially by a parent or other caregivers. The Bible tells us that whosoever harms a child is asking for God’s anger. Mark 9:42

1. FORMS OF CHILD ABUSE
Children are precious to God and must be well taken care of. Basically, child abuse can be physical, sexual or emotional. Ps.127:3

Physical Abuse: Can be the excessive beating of a child (especially one that leaves him/her with marks), throwing objects, poisoning, child labour (trafficking, hawking), neglecting to give the child basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter, education, health care, etc. It also includes the use of drugs, alcohol or any substance that will cause the child distress.
1 Kg.3:19, 25-26; Mk.9:42

Sexual Abuse: This is when any person engages a child in any sexual activity such as fondling a child’s sexual organs, engaging the child in any immoral activity e.g. pornography, rape, defilement of the child, etc. 2 Sam.13:10-15

Emotional/Psychological Abuse: Includes teasing, bullying, threatening, verbal abuse (such as cursing, belittling, constantly finding fault), etc. 1 Sam.17:26-28 ;Col.3:21

2. SIGNS AND PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE
These are some of the signs that a child is being abused: aggressive behaviour, low self-esteem, sleeping difficulties, unexplained bruises, burns or swellings, lack of concentration and criminal inclinations. Child abuse may eventually lead to deformation or death.
Prevention of child abuse may take the following forms:
1. Early education, identification and intervention.
2. Break the silence, report any abuse.
3.Train a child in a godly way. Prov.22:6
4. It is not every wrong that should be met with capital punishment.

CONCLUSION: Child abuse is a menace that must be dealt with holistically in the fear of God.

BIBLE TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 3:16-17

[16]Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

[17]If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: A temple is a building, a place for worship or dwelling place for God or gods. It is the place where God dwells in, where the spirit of God dwells, the house of God and not necessarily a house built up with bricks or cement.

When you accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, God’s spirit comes into you and you become God’s spiritual house, His temple. You are added as a living stone to the temple of God, His dwelling place set up to offer acceptable sacrifices unto Him daily. 1 Peter 2:5, Ephesians 2:20. As God’s temple, your sacrifices must be done in holiness because God cannot behold sin. Romans 12:1, Habakkuk 1:13

LESSON OUTLINE ONE
THE TYPE OF TEMPLE GOD DESIRES

I. Temple of Purity And Power: As God’s temple, you are to consecrate yourself so that God can continually dwell in you. Romans 12:1-2. Psalm 4:3. Only consecrated things are deemed pure and to be used for sacred purposes-2 Tim. 2:19-21. Then God will release His power on you – Luke 10:19 for God is delighted to manifest His great power in and through you. Colossians 2:9-10. God wants to touch and heal through you – Acts.5:15-16, Mark 16:18.

II. Temple of Prayer: God’s temple is the place of prayer where we commune with God. As
God’s children, we should dedicate time to prayer daily. This reveals the measure of our understanding and faith in God. When we pray, we are acknowledging the supremacy of God in our lives by surrendering all at His feet so that He can step in and take over. Luke 18:1, 1 Thess. 5:17. To commune effectively, we cannot afford to toy with sin. Isaiah 59:1-2

III. Temple of Praise: As God’s temple, we are to offer the sacrifice of praise to God
continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.Hebrews 13:15.
The gates to His presence can only be open by praise – Psalm 100:4-5 and everything we desire in life is available in His Presence. Psalm.16:11
We must therefore ensure we offer God praise every day of our lives to enjoy His blessings daily. Psalm 150

ACTIVITIES: i. Diligently carry out all daily tasks outlined in the Golden Diet for this week.
ii. Check the activity to be done’ for the end of this quarter and plan ahead.

CONCLUSION: God’s grace is available and is sufficient for us, 2 Corinthians 12:9. Every Christian should therefore ask and depend on
God’s grace daily to be God’s temple indeed. Matthew 7:7

PRAYER POINT

1. Father, thank You for choosing to dwell in me in Your fullness.

2. Father, please take away from my life everything that will not allow
You to dwell in me.

3. Father, please sanctify me with Your word daily and by Your spirit.

4. Father, please make me a carrier of Your power.

TUESDAY: Many claim to love God but don’t love righteousness, but anyone who loves righteousness loves God. Such is God seeking to be His temple. Heb. 1:9

WEDNESDAY: Pray in tongues for at least an hour.(You are a temple of prayer)

THURSDAY: Mark 16:18b, pray for the sick and lay hands. (You are a temple of power)

FRIDAY: Let your light shine always as God’s temple. Matthew 5:16

SATURDAY: Be holy because you are God’s temple. 1 Cor. 3:17

SUNDAY: You are bought witha price. 1 Cor. 6:20.
