OPENING PRAYER: Father, please keep me always in Your plans and agenda for this end time in Jesus name.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leader should remind members on why people dance between two opinions and the dangers accrued to it.

MEMORY VERSE: “Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, who is on the Lord’s side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him,” Exodus 32:26

BIBLE TEXT: Exodus 32:25-35

[25]And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
[26]Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
[27]And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
[28]And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
[29]For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
[30]And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
[31]And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
[32]Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
[33]And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
[34]Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
[35]And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Who is on the Lord’s side is a question God is asking every believer this day. Many Christians profess Christ but their ways are perverse, their lifestyle is immoral, their integrity is questionable, their desire for worldly enticement is unabated, that is why there is a need to reclaim our stand with Christ like the Levites did in Exodus 32:26 in order to avoid upcoming destruction.

LESSON AIM: To make members see the reason for abiding on the Lord’s side.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to know:
• Whether they are on the Lord’s side or not.
• The benefits of being on the Lord’s side and dangers of not being on the Lord’s side.

BIBLE PASSAGE:Jude 3-4
[3]Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
[4]For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

MEMORY VERSE: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear”. 1 Peter 3:15.

INTRODUCTION: The English word apology comes from a Greek word that means “to give a defense.” Christian apologetics, then, is the science of giving a defense of the Christian faith. Many sceptics doubt the existence of God and/or attack belief in the God of the Bible. Some critics attack the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16) while false teachers promote false doctrines and deny the key truths of the Christian faith. The mission of Christian apologetics is to combat these movements and instead promote the Christian faith and truth.

OUTLINES:
1. REASON AND BIBLICAL INSTANCES
2. WITH GENTLENESS AND RESPECT

1. REASON AND BIBLICAL INSTANCES
There is no excuse for Christians to be completely unable to defend their faith (Jude 3-4). Christians should know what they believe, why they believe it, how to share it with others, and how to defend it against lies and attacks (Colossians 4:6). We are all commanded to be ready and equipped to proclaim the gospel and defend our faith (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Peter 3:15). The only way to do this effectively is to study why we believe what we believe (2 Timothy 2:15). This will prepare us to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captiveevery thought to make it obedient to Christ,” as Paul said we should (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Jesus was His own apologetic, as He often stated that we should believe in Him because of the evidence He provided (John 10:25; 10:38). In fact, the whole Bible is full of divine miracles that confirm what God wants us to believe (Exodus 4:1-8; 1 Kings 18:36-39; Hebrews 2:3-4; 2 Corinthians 12:12).
Paul practiced what he preached; in fact, defending the faith was his regular activity (Philippians 1:7). He refers to apologetics as an aspect of his mission in the same passage (v.16). He also made being an apologetic a requirement for all believers (Titus 1:9). Jude, an apostle of Jesus, wrote,”Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Apart from the above reasons, why do you think a Christian should defend his/her faith in this end time?

2. WITH GENTLENESS AND RESPECT
Defending the Christian faith as apologetics should never involve being rude, angry, or disrespectful (2 Timothy 2:24). While practicing Christian apologetics, we should strive to be strong in our defense and at the same time Christ-like in our presentation (Matthew 10:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:7). If we win a debate but turn a person even further away from Christ by our attitude, we have lost the true purpose of Christian apologetics (2 Corinthians 6:3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Have you had any cause to defend your faith lately, how did you do it?

CONCLUSION: We are commanded to use apologetics in as many or more places as we are told to preach the gospel.

QUESTIONS:
* Give three examples of people in the Bible that defended the faith.
* How should believers defend the faith?

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five things you can do to defend the faith (2×5=10 marks).

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 6:13-20
[13]Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
[14]And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
[15]Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
[16]What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
[17]But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
[18]Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
[19]What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
[20]For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

MEMORY VERSE: “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18 (KJV).

INTRODUCTION: According to the Advanced English Dictionary, fornication is voluntary sexual intercourse between persons not married to each other or extramarital sex that wilfully and maliciously interferes with marriage relations. However, in the New Testament, “fornication” which comes from the Greek word porneia, includes adultery and incest, (and from which we get our English word pornography). Porneia comes from another Greek word that also includes indulging in any kind of unlawful lust, which would include homosexuality. Fornication is a grievous sin that attracts severe judgement from God (Romans 1:29, 32). The Bible admonishes believers to “flee fornication” (1 Corinthians 6:18).

OUTLINES:
1. THE DANGERS OF FORNICATION
2. ANTIDOTES TO FORNICATION

1. THE DANGERS OF FORNICATION
The temptation to commit fornication may arise, but you do not have to fall for it (1 Corinthians 10:12-13) because of the attendant consequences – spiritually, morally, mentally, and health wise (1 Corinthians 6:9, 18). The dangers of fornication include the following:
1. It is the easiest way to contract Sexually Transmitted Diseases and can cut a life short (untimely death). A good example is Amnon who was killed by Absalom two years after he fornicated with Tamar. (2 Samuel 13:28-32).
2. It brings guilt, regret, torment, and destroys destinies (Genesis 49:3-4).
3. It severs one’s relationship with God (1 Corinthians 10:8; Colossians 3:5-6).
4. God hates fornication because He designed the human body to be His temple where His Spirit will dwell and not for illegitimate sex (1 Corinthians 6:13b; Hebrews 13:4).
5. Fornicators will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9).
The primary antidote to the sin of fornication is to run away from it (1 Corinthians 6:18). Running away here means not having anything to do with it either in thoughts or the act itself (Matthew 5:28). Joseph set a good example of fleeing from fornication in Genesis 39:7-12. In addition, we need to constantly purge our minds from immoral thoughts and fix our hearts on pure things (Philippians 4:8). Refuse to read or watch anything immoral – sexually explicit/pornographic materials (Luke 11:34). Feed your mind on the word of God (Psalm 119:9). Take to your heels to avoid this destiny destroyer (1 Corinthians 10:8). See a counsellor if need be and ask God to help you (Proverbs 11:14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should discuss other practical ways to overcome fornication.

CONCLUSION: Fornication destroys destinies, flee!

QUESTIONS:
* Mention three dangers of fornication.
* How can believers flee from fornication?

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 18 FEBRUARY 2024

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS
DATE: SUNDAY 18TH OF FEBRUARY, 2024
THEME: MAKE MONEY

MEMORISE:
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth….
Deuteronomy 8:18

BIBLE TEXT: Ecclesiastes 7:12
For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

MESSAGE:
Many years ago, my first son, who was a teenager at the time, asked for a new pair of shoes. I told him that buying a new pair of shoes was not part of my budget for that month. However, when he insisted, I suggested that he join the bricklayers at the site where we were building the first auditorium in Redemption City. At that time, church workers used to volunteer for such church projects while the employed labourers got paid. Within a few days of working, my son got enough funds to buy himself a pair of shoes! This was his first attempt at making money as a teenager. Now, as a pastor, he is doing well in his business and financing kingdom projects.

My dear child, there is dignity in labour. The earlier you start earning money through honest means, the more likely you will be to inculcate a savings culture because money that is earned through sweat is usually spent wisely. Have a conversation with your parents about getting jobs that will not disturb your education. For instance, if you like teaching, you can hold tutoring classes for children in your neighbourhood in your spare time and charge a fee. You can also earn from writing story books or articles for Christian blogs, making baby accessories for sale, baking, et cetera.

ACTION POINT:
There are many honest ways to make money: find the one that suits you.

QUIZ:
According to the New Testament, who was the first disciple that Jesus called?

HYMN 1: LET US WITH A GLADSOME MIND
1. Let us, with a gladsome mind, Praise the Lord, for He is kind; For His mercies shall endure Ever faithful, ever sure.

2. Let us sound His name abroad, For of gods He is the God; For His mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure.

3. He with all-commanding might Filled the new-made world with light; For His mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure.

4. All things living He doth feed; His full hand supplies their need; For His mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure. 2

5. He His chosen race did bless In the wasteful wilderness; For His mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure.

6. He hath with a pious eye Looked upon our misery; For His mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure.

7. Let us with gladsome mind Praise the Lord, for He is kind; For His mercies shall endure, ever faithful, ever sure.

[16]What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

LESSON AIM: To teach students about the sin of fornication.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
a. Understand what constitutes fornication.
b. Recognise its inherent danger.
c. Identify the antidote to fornication.

OUTLINES:
1. THE DANGERS OF FORNICATION
2. ANTIDOTES TO FORNICATION

1.THE DANGERS OF FORNICATION
A. The temptation to commit fornication may arise, but you do not have to fall for it (1 Corinthians 10:12-13) because of the attendant consequences – spiritually, morally, mentally, and healthwise (1 Corinthians 6:9, 18).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1:
Students should mention other dangers of fornication.

2. ANTIDOTES TO FORNICATION
A. The primary antidote to the sin of fornication is to run away from it (1 Corinthians 6:18).
i. Running away here means not having anything to do with it either in thoughts or the act itself (Matthew 5:28).
ii. Joseph set a good example of fleeing from fornication in Genesis 39:7-12.
B. We need to constantly purge our minds from immoral thoughts and fix our hearts on pure things (Philippians 4:8).
C. Refuse to read or watch anything immoral – sexually explicit/pornographic materials (Luke 11:34).
D. Feed your mind on the word of God (Psalm 119:9).
E. Take to your heels to avoid this destiny destroyer (1 Corinthians 10:8).
F. See a counsellor if need be and ask God to help you (Proverbs 11:14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should discuss other practical ways to overcome fornication.

CONCLUSION: Fornication destroys destinies, flee!

EVALUATION:.Mention three ways out of fornication.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, I receive power to mortify every deed of the flesh in Jesus’ name.

ASSIGNMENT: Students should mention Bible characters ruined through fornication (2×5=10 Marks).

[28]For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
[29]Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
[30]Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

[31]Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

[32]Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 17 FEBRUARY 2024 MESSAGE

Budgeting is one of the tips for financial prudence that many young people have not learnt, and this makes them continually dependent on others for money.

When my children were younger, I would ask them to make a list of their needs and wants.

Needs were those recurring items that they use every month while wants were things that they would just love to have.
We would fix the market prices, then I would add some money to the total on the list and give it to them.
This helped them to learn budgeting and how to tell the difference between their needs and wants.
It is important to have a scale of preference for your needs (compulsory items) and wants; this can help you keep track of your spending and save some money.
Learn to stick to your budget; avoid buying things that go above your budget.
This way you will be able to stay on track with your financial goals.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 17 FEBRUARY 2024 HYMN

HYMN 21: NEARER, MY GOD TO THEE
1. Nearer, my God to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,(2ce)

Nearer to Thee!
2. Though, like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,

Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,(2ce)
Nearer to Thee
3. There let the way appear
Steps unto heaven;
All that Thou send’st to me
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,(2ce)
Nearer to Thee

4. Then with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony grief
Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God to thee,(2ce)

Nearer to Thee!
5. Or if on joyful wing
Cleaving thy sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upwards I fly
Still all my songs shall be,
Nearer my God to thee,(2ce)
Nearer to Thee!
