Death signals the termination of any form of life. It is also often applied to non-living things like an organization, a concept or an idea.

Whenever death successfully cast its power over anything, it usually leads to cessation, extinction, doom, destruction, total collapse, and hopelessness.

Death is so powerful that it is declared to be the last enemy that will be destroyed (1 Corinthians 15:26).

In the natural world, people declare something to be impossible if it runs contrary to science or contradicts their settled convictions and misconceptions.

For this reason, to the natural man, death is irreversible, and the restoration of life is an unthinkable impossibility that is contrary to reason.

Against this background, you can understand the reason why God asked the prophet Ezekiel the rhetorical question, “Son of man, can these bones live?” (Ezekiel 37:3).

The prophet’s response to this question indicates that he recognized that only the all-knowing and all powerful Author of life and Creator of all things can restore any dead substance back to life.

More than anything else, the characteristics of death make it the worst enemy of man. Do you know that death stings and the sting of death is sin (1 Corinthians 15:56)?

Before death can overpower life, it first introduces its sting into that life. The sting of death is extremely painful, wicked and ruthless. Death destroys, leads to irreparable loss, and cannot be appeased.

However, thank God that the whole assignment for which Jesus Christ came to this world is centered on the restoration of life. John 10:10, explains it this way:

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Jesus came to set the captive free by replacing death with abundant life. Anyone who has suffered death, destruction or loss of any kind can come to Him for total restoration.

He did it for Lazarus, the widow of Nain and for several others, and He can still do it for you today (John 11:38-44, Luke 77:12-14, Mark 5:38-41).

Are you suffering death in any area of your life? The Resurrection and the Life says to you today: Arise!

MESSAGE:

One lesson we learn from the story of Moses is that God can reward you for doing your normal duties. Moses’ mother was paid salaries for raising her own baby.

If you can only be faithful in your regular duties, God can use that as an excuse to reward you beyond your expectations.

Are you faithful with your house chores? If you are given assignments in school, do you do them faithfully or copy the work of others? Are you faithful with your responsibilities in church?

He could bless you with good grades, admission into the school of your choice, financial provision and so on. Just as we see in Matthew 25, when God wants to reward a person, He judges from the person’s faithfulness to his/her duties.

Your faithfulness in little things can be the key to getting your desires from God.

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:22, the Holy Spirit is very clear in warning all those who profess to belong to the family of God to stay away from everything that appears to be evil.

This instruction is not ambiguous, neither is it complicated nor difficult to understand. However, we need to understand what constitutes the appearance of evil, and what the Christian standard for evaluating godliness is.

A genuine Christian should not have any problem accepting the only standard for living that the Almighty God Himself has set before us, which is the Holy Bible.

In several of its passages, this Book of books clearly states those things that constitute the appearance of evil. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 gives this account of the origin and purpose of the Bible saying:

“ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

Those with such views cannot stand the test of time, and their faith will surely suffer shipwreck. Once the authority of the Bible is established as the infallible, inerrant, inspired word of God that contains everything necessary to direct the life of a child of God unto perfection, the rest is easy.

In addition to obeying the explicit commandments of God, the Holy Spirit also admonishes us to avoid anything that looks like evil and to keep away from questionable activities. To this effect, Philippians 4:8 says:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

In your daily walk with God, this verse should serve as a benchmark for you to determine what constitutes the appearance of evil. We are to set our minds on things that are honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.

If you are wise, you will recognize that the Holy spirit knows better than you do, and so when He says flee, you will flee instead of trying to cope with any appearance of evil!

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS 18 FEBRUARY 2019 – STANDING OUT

MEMORISE: Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Hebrews 1:9

Read: Deuteronomy 28:1-13

1 IF YOU will listen diligently to the voice of the Lord your God, being watchful to do all His commandments which I command you this day, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.

2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God.

3 Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the field.

4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock.

5 Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading trough.

6 Blessed shall you be when you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out.

7 The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.

8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouse and in all that you undertake. And He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

9 The Lord will establish you as a people holy to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.

MESSAGE:

The summary of Deuteronomy 28:1-13 is that you shall be outstanding. To be outstanding, you must realise that holiness is the major ingredient you need. If you live in sin like every other person, you will end up just like them.

To be outstanding, while others are committing sin, you must remain holy. While everyone loves the things of the world, you must hate and stay away from them.

God said that it is those who hate iniquity and love righteousness that He will give the anointing to be above their peers to (Hebrews 1:9). Read – Open Heavens 18 February 2019

In addition, you must be devoted to whatever assignment you are given. Then you have to study hard to show yourself approved. Ensure you put the best effort into everything that you do.

KEY POINT:
Holiness is central to being outstanding.
