OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS MONDAY 14TH MAY 2018: WATCH YOUR WORDS

MEMORISE: Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister
grace to the hearers. Ephesians 4:29

Please read: Matthew 12:33-37

MESSAGE:
As a child of God, you must be very careful with the way you use words. If God who is your
Father could create the entire universe by the Word, then you have the power in your mouth to
do and undo.

Proverbs 18:21 says that life and death are in the power of the tongue and
because of this, the words we say go a long way in determining the course of our lives.

How do you use your tongue? Do you say negative things
about yourself or others? Do you slander others
or gossip with your tongue? Stop it! You are actually committing murder with your tongue.

Do you speak abusively towards your friends and
family members? Or do you tell dirty jokes or use swear words? Watch your words! Everything you say with your mouth is being recorded, and will
be judged by Christ.

Your words can bring long life and prosperity to you, or it can bring sorrow and untold hardship to you. Be careful about what you say, how you say it, and who you say it to.

KEY POINT:
Let your words bring life, not death.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 9-11
John 5:1-24

Hymn 2
1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His
Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the
skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4.But we never can prove the delights of His
love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

  1. 5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His
    feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
    What He says we will do, where He sends we will
    go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.

Memories
And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her,and opened her womb.
Genesis 30:22

Open Heaven 14 May 2018  Bible Reading Genesis 8:1-5

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged;

2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

Bible in one year : 2 Samuel 3-4, 1 Peter 1:13-2:12

Remembrance is the process of recalling the last or being able to bring to the fore of one’s mind an awareness of someone or something. Although it is not in the nature or character of God to forget anything like we humans do (because he is the All-knowing God), the word “remember” is used in relation to God in several passages of the Bible to connote the reception of special attention from Him. Open Heaven 13 May 2018

When God remembers a person for good, the person’s situation is transformed immediately. This is the reason why several people in the Bible cried to God to remember them. The Lord will hear your cry for remembrance today in Jesus’ name.

In Judges 16:28, Samson cried “Lord God, remember me”, and the Lord answered him immediately. In Nehemiah 13:14, Nehemiah also cried “Remember me; O my God.” When King Hezekiah was faced with death, He cried to God “Remember how I walked before you in truth and with a loyal heart” (Isaiah 38:3).

Furthermore, Jeremiah cried unto God to remember his covenant with Israel (Jeremiah 14:21). In all these cases of people calling unto God for remembrance, He responded favourably and intervened in their situations. I pray that God will remember you for good and intervene in your situation today in Jesus’ name

When God remembers you, He will immediately put an end to everything that is working against your peace , just as He did for Noah when He commanded the flood waters to cease (Genesis 8:1). When God remembers you , He will deliver you from all your troubles as He did for Lot and his family in Genesis 19:29.

He will also put an end to barrenness and open. Your womb for fruitfulness, just as He did for Rachel and Hannah (Genesis 30:22, 1 Samuel 1:19). By the grace of God, we have heard several heart warming testimonies in the Redeemed Christian Church of God about what happens when God remembers His people for good after years of suffering, sorrow and pain.

Open Heaven 14 May 2018

Barrenness of over twenty years has been terminated, incurable diseases have been healed , mental illnesses have been cured , captives have been delivered, generational curses have been cancelled, poverty has been terminated, and destinies have been restored.

I remember several previously barren women whom God remembered and blessed with twins and triplets. God remembered a certain Lady who still used to wet her bed at over thirty years of age, and the bed wetting stopped instantly. Just as Jesus healed the impotent man after 38 years of being at the pool side(John 5), we have heard testimonies of wicked embargoes on marriage being lifted even after attaining 50 years of age. God will remember you for good and give special attention to your case in Jesus’ name

1. Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.
O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.
2. Deeper, deeper, blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.
3. Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.
4. Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.
5. Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,

RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual May 13th, 2018 Lesson 37 — Gideon

MEMORY VERSE: “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” – Judges 6:12

BIBLE PASSAGE: Judges 6:11-16

11 And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

12 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. Open Heaven 14 May 2018

14 And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

16 And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

INTRODUCTION:

Gideon, also called Jerubbaal (Judges 6:29,32), was of the tribe of Manasseh. He was the son of Joash, of the family of Abiezer (Judges 6:11). He was a valiant and prudent judge of Israel, particularly the eastern and northern tribes, (B. C. 1249 to 1209). He resided in Ophrah, east of the Jordan, a region often ravanged in harvest-time by the wandering tribes on its eastern border. Being called of God to deliver his people, and encouraged by signs from Heaven, he defeated the Midiantites, and caused Israel to dwell in safety for many years. Gideon had many wives and seventy sons (Judges 8:30). He also had a son named Abimelech by a concubine in Shechem (Judges 8:31). Died in “a good old age, and was buried in the sepulcher of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites” (Judges 8:32).

LESSON OUTLINES
1. Character and achievements
2. Lessons from his life

CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENT
Gideon was a humble man who did not believe he was capable of saving Israel because his family was poor and he was the least in his father’s house (Judges 6:15). An angel of the LORD appeared to him and delivered God’s commission to him – he was a “mighty man of valour; God was with him, and would “save Israel”. (Judges 6:12,14). Gideon as reluctant to believe that God would be with him and asked for a sign, which God gave (Judges 6:16-24).
Gideon gathered an army of 22,000 men to fight the Midianites, but God cut it to 300 so all would know that it was God that won the battle (Judges 7:2-4).

LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE
1. Christians must always be ready. God may call you at any time to accomplish His purpose (Isaiah 6:8).
2. You must always remember that God “gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
3. God gives us the power to do whatever He tells us to do, no matter how difficult it may seem to be (Philippians 2:13; 3:14).
4. Courage in the face of adversity can accomplish great things (Deuteronomy 31:6).
5. Victory over the battles of life is not achieved through human ability but through divine interventions (Zechariah 4:6; Exodus 14:13-14; 2 Chronicles 20:17).

CONCLUSION:
Often times, when God wants to accomplish a great task, He does not call the qualified but qualifies the called.

QUESTIONS:
1. Identify the character of the man, Gideon

2. What are the lessons to learn from the life of Gideon?

TEXT REVIEW: JUDGES 6:11-16

WORDS OF COURAGE AND ASSURANCE

Statement of courage and assurance can bring an abrupt end to years of oppression and intimidation. In today’s story, five statements of assurance brought the Israelites out of seven (7) years of pains inflicted upon them by the Midianite oppressors, Judge6:1-5. These life-restoring statements are stated below:

i. The Lord is with you. Judges 6: 12a.
ii. You are a mighty man of valour (not a coward). Judges 6:12b.
iii. Go in this your might Judges 6:14a
iv. You will save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Judges 6:14b.
v. I have sent/commissioned you. Judges 6:14c.

The teacher’s words to students in affliction must bring light of hope and recovery of destiny. Towing the path of excuse given by the shekels as Gideon did in Judges 6:13, may prolong the pains. Teacher should be so sure of his God and present same to those in affliction. Joshua said, “We are well able” Number 13:30. The three Hebrews said, “Our God is able.” Dan. 317. Therefore we are well able to win the battles through God on our side. Judges 7:25.

vi. God gave him a proof that he would be with him through a sign from the angel. Judges 6:16-24.

B. HIS ACHIEVEMENTS
i. He was able to pull a large number of soldiers in his army. (22,000 men).
ii. He obeyed and believed God to reduce the army to only 300 soldiers. Judges 7:24
iii. He fought with this few number of soldiers and defeated the Midianites.
iv. He brought an end to the 7 years of Midianite’s oppression. Judges 6:1

MESSAGE:
Discouragement is a great tool in the hands of the enemy. The devil usually does not apply
discouragement when you are in high spirits or
when you are happy; discouragement comes.when you are in low spirits, sad and unhappy. If
there is something you have been looking up to God for that is pending, that is when you become a candidate for discouragement.

The devil introduces discouragement when you are tired,
weak and sometimes helpless (1 Kings 19:4). To
overcome discouragement therefore, allow the
joy of the Lord to be your strength. Be filled with God’s Word and hold on to His promises at every point in time.

Moreover, when you are closest to achieving your goal, the enemy can bring discouragement.
We often fall prey to this because of our inability.to see beyond now. Open Heaven 13 May 2018

Whenever the devil tells you that you cannot achieve a thing, immediately tell him that the Word of God says you can do all things by God’s strength. Never believe the lie of
the devil or of men. You can do all things through the strength of the Lord that is inside you.

Hymn 1
1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire !

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;

Open Heaven 13 May 2018 Bible in one year: 2 Samuel 1-2, 1 Peter 1: 1-12

The original intention and will of God for mankind is that we would maintain our innocence while still exercising our free will to make decisions in total obedience to His word. His desire is for us to make the decisions in conscious and deliberate submission to His authority, not out of ignorance but in innocence. Life involves making decisions at different levels and under various circumstances.

To help is navigate our way through life successfully, the Scripture offers us guidance on how we should make decisions, while providing examples of good and bad decisions and their consequences. Relying on the human knowledge of good and evil motivates people to reason things out and arrive at seemingly good decisions that are based on prevailing culture, level of intelligence and personal preference, without any serious consideration for obedience to the will of God. The truth is, decision- making is the most vital aspect of life because the quality of a person’s decision determines the level of success or failure he or she attains.

The Bible narrates some classic examples of bad decisions made over the ages of their consequences. The most harmful of this is found in Genesis 3:6

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes ,and a tree to be desired toake one wise , she took of the fruit thereof…

This was the decision that got the whole of humanity into trouble, but thank God for Jesus who redeemed us by His Blood. Another example is Esau who chose to sell his birthright for bread and pottage , and he lost it forever. Samson also made bad choices , including his decision to mingle with strange women, which destroyed his life, made him lose his lower and cause him to die in the camp of his enemies (Judges 16:1).

Furthermore in 1 Samuel 13:8-9, King Saul’s decision to offer the required burnt offering in the absence of prophet Samuel made him lose everything. The Lord would restore everything you have lost today in Jesus name.

The Bible also contains examples of those who made good decisions. Joseph refused the sexual advances of his master’s wife, and God ensured that his dreams came to pass ( Genesis 39:7-9). Open Heaven 11 May 2018

In Ruth 1:15-16, against all odds, Ruth decided to follow her mother-in-law, and the God of Israel settled her. She became the great grandmother of king David, and our Lord Jesus Christ later came out from her lineage. I pray that you would not make the wrong decisions that will change the course of your life for evil in the mighty Name of Jesus

Memories
And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom you will serve ; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood , or the gods of the amorites , in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house we will serve the LORD.  Joshua 24:15

Ruth 1:11-18

11 And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;

13 Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me.

14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

Are you presently in any of life’s crossroads? God expects that your decisions would be the end result of a process of reflection on the available choices before you, informed and sustained by a concern to please Him.

You therefore need guidance from the Holy Spirit before making up your mind on any issue, especially the difficult ones. Our loving Father has provided assistance for our decision-making process through the Holy Spirit, the Scriptures, individuals and the natural world around us.

In Joshua chapter 24, the All-knowing God knew that the Israelites would soon have to make the conscious decision of either serving Him or the gods of the nations around them. He therefore presented His case on why the should serve Him by reminding them of how He brought Abraham their Father out of his native land, across the river, into the Promised Land.

He future recounted how He delivered them from slavery in Egypt and took them through the wilderness with miracle, signs and wonders attending every aspect of their journey. The Lord then announced to them that if they found it difficult to serve Him wholeheartedly after everything He had done for them, they were free to choose whom they would serve. However, Joshua immediately answered for himself that he and his family would serve the Lord

Why would God give his people the option of serving other gods? The truth of the matter is, our God’s leadership is not authoritarian or forceful. He will tell you his rules and regulations, and make his position on issues very clear.

He will also reveal what awaits you in the future based on the choices you make today. You can be sure that He would allow you to have your way, and He will also give you the opportunity to exercise your free will.

However, you must be ready to accept the repercussions of your choices and take responsibility for your actions at the end of it all. If you are a good student of the Bible you would observe that each time someone acted contrary to God’s word, they always suffer terribly for it. Open Heaven 11 May 2018

For example contrary to God’s warning, Is real decided to have a king instead of letting God lead them through His Prophets. They turned deaf ears to God’s warning in 1 Samuel 8:18 and they suffered terribly for it in the hands of Solomon and the succeeding kings. Open Heaven 10 May 2018

Rather than act in defiance to God’s instructions, it is always better to heed to His counsel. Be ready to reason with God in His word and through prayers, and you will be rewarded with divine directions that wills lead to your breakthrough (Isaiah 1:18)

The Great Physician now is near,
The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus!
Sweetest note in seraph
Sweetest name on mortal tongue;
Sweetest carol ever sung:
Jesus, blessed Jesus!
2 Your many sins are all forgiv’n,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus;
The veil ’twixt you and God is riven,
Redemption wrought by Jesus.
3 All glory to the dying Lamb!
I now believe in Jesus;
I love the blessed Savior’s name,
I love the name of Jesus.
4 His name dispels my guilt and fear,
No other name but Jesus;
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
The charming name of Jesus!
