And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Luke 6:46

Open Heaven 8 August 2018 Bible Reading For Today – Luke 15:11-21

11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

Open Heaven 8 August 2018 Bible in one year – Job 21-24, Matthew 15:21-16:4

The story of the prodigal son can aptly be summarized as what happens under the government of self. Although man was created to have dominion, he was not created to be governed by  self. This truth accounts for the instruction God gave man in Genesis 2:15-17

“And the Lord God took thr man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat : But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shall surely die.”

One can safely assume that the purpose of these instructions was to let man know that he is under divine governance. It is unfortunate that the devil sold the idea of self-government to man. This same idea was what lead to the  devil’s fall from grace, and as a matter of fact, he continued to be the problem of man even today (Isaiah 14:12-15).

The Lord is asking you today : are you living under the government of self or planning to detach yourself from the governance of heaven? Please don’t tread this path. None of those who did it before you have ever had a good story to tell. Psalm 2:1-5 tells us that God is sorely displeased by attempts to rebel against His Lordship.

People tend to see obeying God’s instructions as slavery, just as the prodigal son saw the control of his Father as slavery. The prodigal son wanted his “freedom” , and so he decided to break away from his father’s control, not because his father was wicked or because he was suffering or lacked anything.

Open Heaven 8 August 2018

All he wanted was self-rule, and he suffered for it. Every story of self rule initiated against God’s governance ends in chaos, regret and unbearable suffering. The unfortunate thing is that the government of self is finding its way into today’s Church. Today any church leadership that tends to be built around the governance of God’s spirit is often maligned, ridiculed and condemned. Click To Read – Open Heaven 7 August 2018

From the onset, the church of God was designed to be ruled by the Holy Spirit. He is the Vicar that Jesus Christ sent to us after his ascension into heaven. Whatever we do outside the Holy Spirit is invalid. I have said this several times , and because it is the truth and the truth is constant, I cannot retract this statement.

Years ago when certain brothers demanded freedom from our church, I told them that any freedom more than what they have already under God would amount to bondage. Those who did not believe me then, who found a way of getting the freedom they desired, understand this truth better now. Beloved voluntarily put yourself under the governance of God; it pays now and it will not be worth it in thr hereafter.

WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

Verse 1:
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Verse 2:
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Verse 3:
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead , and Christ shall give thee light. Ephesians 5:14

Open Heaven 7 August 2018 Bible Reading – 1King 13:11-22

11. Now there was a certain old prophet living in Bethel, whose sons came and told him all that the man of God had done there that day. They also told their father what he had said to the king.

12 Their father asked them, “Which way did he go?” And his sons showed him which road the man of God from Judah had taken.

13 So he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And when they had saddled the donkey for him, he mounted it

14 and rode after the man of God. He found him sitting under an oak tree and asked, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” “I am,” he replied.

15 So the prophet said to him, “Come home with me and eat.”

16 The man of God said, “I cannot turn back and go with you, nor can I eat bread or drink water with you in this place.

17 I have been told by the word of the Lord: ‘You must not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way you came.’”

18 The old prophet answered, “I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the Lord: ‘Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” (But he was lying to him.)

19 So the man of God returned with him and ate and drank in his house.

20 While they were sitting at the table, the word of the Lord came to the old prophet who had brought him back.

21 He cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: ‘You have defiedthe word of the Lord and have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you.

22 You came back and ate bread and drank water in the place where he told you not to eat or drink. Therefore your body will not be buried in the tomb of your ancestors.’”

Open Heaven 7 August 2018 Bible in one year: Job 17-20, Matthew 14:34-15:20

There is a clarion call to all children of God to wake up to God’s expectations of them in areas such as holy living, soul winning and service to humanity. It is urgent and important to heed to this call in obedience  to our Father in heaven and in order to bring glory to His Holy Name. Our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 5:15-16 said to us:

“Neither do men light a candle, and pur it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light onto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Knowing that we live in perilous times, swiftly heeding this call has become all the more necessary. When the Holy Spirit made the call in today’s memory verse, things were not even as bad as they are today. Therefore, as the church of God, we must awaken from our slumber. Click here to read – Open Heaven 6 August 2018

The Holy Spirit says we should arise from the dead, with a promise that Christ will give us light. In other words , many of us are dead spiritually. Nevertheless, thank God that Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, is alive to his responsibility of restoring us.

How do members of the body of Christ become dead, and what is actually killing them? Today’s Bible reading gives some insight on this. It narrates the story of an old prophet who lived in Bethel, which is translated to mean ‘house of God’.

Ironically this prophet living on the house of God was backslidden. There was also another man, a young prophet  who had not compromised his faith in Yahweh. God sent him to prophesy against the idolatrous regime of Jeroboam, with a warning that he must not rest along the way until he returned home from delivering God’s message. Also he was commanded not to eat or return by the same way he went.

Open Heaven 7 August 2018

This young prophet did according to what the Lord had told him, except that he felt so tired and decided to take a rest under an oak tree. It is unfortunate that it was at  this resting point that the old prophet met and decieved him to go against God’s instructions. Beloved there are several old prophets around us today.

In their backslidden state they still sound knowledgeable and full of experience when they teach. To unsuspecting young men and women of God, their words are filled with wisdom. You must however beware of their heretic teachings. Their positions on several issues can deceive young minds.

The poor young prophet believed the old prophet’s lies, and he ended up taking a deadly spiritual siesta!
Tragically this same old prophet was the one who delivered God’s judgement upon the young prophet. So beware! The old prophet wanted to go to hell but wanted as many people as possible to go along with him. Awake, and don’t fall for the enemy’s tricks!

How sweet the name of Jesus

Verse 1:
How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

Verse 2:
It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
’Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.

Verse 3:
Jesus! My Shepherd, Husband, Friend,
O Prophet, Priest and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.

Verse 4:
Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I’ll praise Thee as I ought.

Verse 5:
Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath,
And may the music of Thy Name
Refresh my soul in death!

INTRODUCTION:

Marriage, in this context, symbolises the union between Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5:22-32). It is, however, important to note that the second coming of Christ with the Saints to reign on earth is the next event after the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. May the Holy Spirit teach us and bless us richly as we look at this topic in details (Daniel 7:13; 1Timothy 6:14; Acts 1:10-11).

LESSON OUTLINES

1. What, when and where is the marriage?

2. Importance and qualification for the marriage.

WHAT, WHEN AND WHERE IS THE MARRIAGE?

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb is the Lamb is the consummation of the union between Christ, the Bridegroom and the Church (without spot or wrinkles) (Ephesians 5:27; Revelations 19:1-14; Matthew 22:1-14; Matthew 25:1-13). It is one of the greatest biblical prophesies. The Marriage will take place after the rapture and before the second coming of Christ (with the saints) to the earth (Revelations 19:1-21). Christ is the Bridegroom. The wife is the redeemed or saints of all ages who will have part in the first resurrection and who will live in the New Jerusalem forever (Revelations 21:2, 2:9-10).

IMPORTANCE AND QUALIFICATION FOR THE MARRIAGE

The marriage is important for the following reasons:

1. To assemble the saints for the last supper with Christ (Matthew 26:29).
2. To present the just of all ages to God, the Father, and fulfil their main eternal purpose (John 17:12).

3. To wipe away tears from the faces of the saints (Revelations 7:17; 21:4)

4. To take away the saints from the earth before the activities of the anti-Christ and the great tribulation (Isaiah 57:1).

Those who will qualify for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb must be those who belong to Christ (2Corinthians 5:17), earnestly desiring His second coming and watching (Matthew 25:1-13). Those whose patience and visions are not darkened. Those who do not get distracted and lose focus completely before the Bridegroom comes. Those whose holiness is not polluted and their garment not stained. Those whose garment is righteousness and always right on time (Matthew 21:10-14; Revelations 21:8-27; Hebrews 12:14). Those that obey His commandments and whose citizenship is in Heaven (Revelations 22:14-15; Ephesians 2:16; Matthew 7:21-23).

CONCLUSION

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb, like all biblical prophecies, will be fulfilled. Our Lord Jesus Christ will have His last supper with the Church without spots or wrinkles. Are you a member of His kingdom? Do you earnestly desire it? You cannot afford to miss it. Pray to God to keep you standing in Him and count you worthy of this great and unique event.

QUESTIONS:

1. Who qualifies for the marriage?

2. Name four important reasons for the Marriage?

And they that use this world , as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. 1 Corinthians 7:31

On Not Loving the World

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Open Heaven 6 August 2018 Bible in one year Job 13-16, Matthew 14:13-33

Worldliness has been reconstructed by some to mean having the good things of life, such as good cars, comfortable houses, descent clothings and the like. This is not true, because some of the heros of faith that God loves so much were not only very rich , they also lived a good life. Here is Abraham’s servant’s testimony of Abraham’s status in Genesis 24:35

“And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold,, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels and asses.”

The good life Abraham had us evident in the fact that he could afford to entertain three “causal” passersby with a whole clad (Genesis 18:7). He also had three hundred and eighteen foot servants in his service (Genesis 14:14). In light of these facts, we need to properly define what worldliness is in order to distinguish it from good living. Click Here To Read – Open Heaven 4 August 2018

Open Heaven 6 August 2018

What then is worldliness if it is not synonymous with being wealthy? Today’s memory verse gives us a hint if God’s view on this subject matter. From this verse of the scripture we understand that things of this world are meant for our use but not for our abuse. According to today’s Bible reading, simply defined, worldliness is ‘lust’. Click Here To Read – Open Heaven 5 August 2018

“For all that is in the world, and the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eye and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:16

From the scripture above, we understand that worldliness is lusting after the following:

1. Things that are not yours and cannot be yours, but which you still desire by all means, such as another man’s wife.

2. Things you do not necessarily need but which you still get for the sake of pride of life

3. Things you own that you keep away from those who actually need them.

4. ‎Lack of contentment with what God has made your given you. For example, a dark person bleaching their skin to become a light person.

Above all, worldliness is denying God what what He originally gave you when he demands for it. An example of this is manifested when instead of using the blessing God has deposited in your life for the purpose of propagating the gospel, you choose to keep it away from Him because you need to buy the latest car in town, despite the fact that you already have enough cars to take you around.

Learn from Joseph of Arimathaea who selflessly volunteered his own expensive tomb for Jesus’ burial (Matthew 27:57-60). Beloved a person can be poor and still be worldly if the little he or she has is place or valued higher than the Almighty God. How highly do you rate your possessions today?

On the Hill far away

Verse 1
On a hill far away
Stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Chorus:
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.

Verse 2
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

(Chorus)

Verse 3
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

(Chorus)

Verse 4
To that old rugged cross I will ever be true,
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then he’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where his glory forever I’ll share.

Open Heaven 5 August 2018 Bible Reading: Psalm 126:1-4 (KJV)

1 When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.

3 The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south.

In the course of our reflection yesterday, the Holy Spirit revealed to us some unexpected things that happened when God comes visiting, One outcome of divine visitation is amazing testimonies of sudden turn around, which are so mind-boggling that they lead to laughter.

Today’s Bible reading describes this experience. At one of our events, one particular man had a divine visitation and received his own amazing testimony of sudden turn around. This young man was born with only one testicle he had. This ended any possibility of this young man ever having a child of his own. Click To Read – Open Heaven 4 August 2018

However, God had a plan to bring laughter back to his life. It was the very first programme I held as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God at Rowe Park, Lagos Nigeria. In the course of this programme, the young man felt that something sensational was going on between his legs, and he checked to see what was happening to him.

He discovered that he had received two brand new testicles! The day he came to visit me in my office after miracle, he came with his wife and she was pregnant. In his joy and excitement, he said to me, “Sir, do you want me to show you the testicles?” I responded that there was no need for this because I could see the evidence of the new testicles on his wife. God will visit you, and creative miracles will be your portion today in Jesus’ Name.

Another of such testimonies is that of a young man brought to my office by one of his friends several years ago. This young man said to me, “Sir, I have a big problem.” We found out that his wife had literarily run mad and was roaming the streets completely naked.

It is culturally believed by the Yoruba tribe, which he belonged to, that a mentally unstable person that is still within the house can be cured, but once the spirit of madness takes such a fellow to the market place naked, such a person would remain mad for life.

As at the time they came to my office, this woman had been bundled off to an herbal treatment home in Kwara State, Nigeria, I was given the address of this place, and I went there to pray for her. Her husband was informed after I left that I had been there to pray, but he was disappointed to here that the prayer did not last more than five minutes.

“How can a five-minute prayer deal with this serious madness”, they wondered out of doubt. So they took the woman to a psychiatric hospital. As God would have it, the specialist there said to them, “Let us observe her before we know what to do.”

After two weeks of observation, they sent for her husband and told him, “Sir, if you say something is wrong with this woman, then something must be wrong with you, because even though we have not given her any medication, this woman is as normal as any normal human being can be.” a divine visitation of less than five minutes brought laughter back to the family of this young man. I decree that in the Name that is above every other name, this month shall be your month of laughter.

A NEW THING

(Tune: There shall be showers of Blessing)

We will soon shout Halleluiah

Because God will do new things

Sinners will be forgiven

Prodigals will come home soon.

Chorus:

Shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

Rivers in desert now flowing

Hallelujah to our king.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

Sickness and sorrow will be gone

Bondage will be forgotten.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

The barren will be faithful soon

Failure will be forgotten.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

Poverty will be forgotten

Stagnancy will soon be gone.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

To all miracles are given

There shall be celebrations

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

Many will have testimonies

Of prayer answered fully.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

One of us will chase a thousand

Two will conquer ten thousand

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

Songs of praises we will sing

Hallelujah to our King
