Open Heaven 26 June 2018 Memorise: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Read: Genesis 50:15-21 Open Heaven 26 June 2018

15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Hymnal: Sing hymn 6

God in His unfathomable wisdom sometimes connects us to our destiny through some strange helpers. Such destiny helpers appear strange to us because they are people we least expect help from. This is the reason why the Holy Spirit teaches in our memory verse that we need to see God’s hand in all things that happen to us. The Holy Spirit also makes it clear that this truth will only work for those who are called according to God’s purpose, walking in line with His precepts and instructions.

A good example of strange destiny helpers is Joseph’s brothers. While they were aiding the fulfilment of Joseph’s destiny, they did not even know it. They thought they were selling him into slavery, but they only helped in transporting him to the land where he was destined to become the prime minister. Joseph had other strange destiny helpers along his way to becoming the prime minister of Egypt, such as Potiphar’s wife, Pharaoh’s cup bear and Pharaoh’s baker. All these different encounters worked together for his good until he became the first prime minister of Egypt. Genesis 41:39-41 tells of the awesome promotion he received in one day through the aid of strange destiny helpers.

“And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.”

Joseph’s experience shows that every person you meet in any situation can be one of your destiny helpers. I pray for you today that your destiny helpers will emerge from the places you least expected in Jesus’ Name. Things worked out for Joseph because he was faithful to God and could not imagine sinning against Him. Open Heaven 25 June 2018

This same attitude is expected of every Christian today. You need to remain faithful and true to God, so that you can be assured of His hand in all that is happening to you. At the end of it all, Joseph also became a destiny helper to the whole of Egypt. An ex-convict and slave ended up saving an entire country from famine. No one is too small to be your destiny helper. Beloved, if you will love God with all your heart, all things will continue to work together for you good in Jesus’ Name.

Prodigals will come home soon.

Because God will do new things

Sickness and sorrow will be gone

Bondage will be forgotten.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

The barren will be faithful soon

Failure will be forgotten.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

Poverty will be forgotten

Stagnancy will soon be gone.

We will soon shout Hallelujah

Because God will do new things

To all miracles are given

There shall be celebrations

Because God will do new things

Many will have testimonies

Of prayer answered fully.

Because God will do new things

One of us will chase a thousand

Two will conquer ten thousand

MEMORY VERSE: “And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth” – 1Samuel 3:10

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1Samuel 3:1-10

1 Samuel:3.1
Then the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; [there was] no widespread revelation.
1 Samuel:3.2
And it came to pass at that time, while Eli [was] lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see,
1 Samuel:3.3
and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the LORD where the ark of God [was,] and while Samuel was lying down,
1 Samuel:3.4
that the LORD called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!”
1 Samuel:3.5
So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down.
1 Samuel:3.6
Then the LORD called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”
1 Samuel:3.7
(Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor was the word of the LORD yet revealed to him.)
1 Samuel:3.8
And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. Then he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD had called the boy.
1 Samuel:3.9
Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
1 Samuel:3.10
Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

INTRODUCTION:

You cannot hear, if there is no call from somewhere or someone. Also, you can only answer to a call that you hear. A call can come from any quarter. However, being able to recognise the voice of the one calling is very crucial for every child of God. May God give us hearing ears, seeing eyes and listening heart in Jesus’ name (Proverbs 20:12; Matthew 11:15).

LESSON OUTLINES

1. How does God speak?
2. Results of hearing from God

HOW DOES GOD SPEAK?
God has spoken in various ways to His people from ages past. Some of the ways are: loud voice (Exodus 3:4), inner witness (Matthew 16:17; Acts 27:9-11), small/still voice (1Kings 19:12; Job 4:16), dreams and visions (1Kings 3:5; Matthew 1:20), God’s anointed servants (2Kings 20:1,5), His word-the Holy Scriptures (2Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 10:7).
Discerning between God’s voice and other voices (devil, flesh, etc.) is very crucial (1Corinthians 2:11; 1John 4:1). A believer must grow steadily into maturity to be able to recognise and adhere to the voice of God (2Peter 3:18; Hebrews 5:14). Obedience to God’s voice in little matters enhances the ability of a believer to hear more from God. Ultimately, the voice you hear must be substantiated in the scriptures for confirmation (Acts 17:11).

RESULTS OF HEARING FROM GOD
1. Divine guidance/direction (Isaiah 30:21; 1kings 17:2-4, 8-9; 18:1).

2. Prompt answers to prayers (1Kings 18:36-38; Acts 9:10-12, 17-18).

3. Peace and divine assurance (Acts 27:22-24; Psalm 85:8)

4. Better relationship with God (Exodus 33:11; Isaiah 6:8)

5. Boldness to exercise spiritual authority (Exodus 3:18, 5:1; Acts 16:16-18).

CONCLUSION

God is still in the business of speaking to His children (Psalm 62:11). We need to learn how to hear from Him and obey His voice (John 10:4-5,27).

QUESTIONS:

1. How does God speak?

2. Mention four results of hearing from God.
