The Shunammite’s Son Restored to Life

One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat.

She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God.

10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”

11 One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there.

12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite.” So he called her, and she stood before him.

13 Elisha said to him, “Tell her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’ ”She replied, “I have a home among my own people.”

14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked. Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”

15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway.

16 “About this time next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.” “No, my lord!” she objected. “Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!”

17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.

Open Heaven May 16 2018 Bible in one year: 2 Samuel 7-9, 1 Peter 3:8-4:11

Hospitality is the act of generosity and friendship shown towards strangers , and it includes the responsibility of protecting the interest of those received as guests. God admonishes His children to be hospitable as part of our duty to others and in gratitude for the salvation, favour and mercy we have received from Him ( Exodus 22:21).

Several passages of scripture emphasise hospitality as a godly virtue ( Romans 12:13, 1 Peter 4:9). Hebrews 13:2 says
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

Furthermore, the Bible mentions hospitality as one of the preconditions for becoming a leader in the church (1 Timothy 3:2). Hospitality has played a very important role in the Redeemed Christian Church of God right from its very beginning. It forms part of our core beliefs and practices.

We teach that you don’t to be rich to look after visitors. You can entertain four people with a single orange by slicing it into four parts and presenting it nicely on a decent plate with glasses of water. May you receive the true spirit of hospitality today in Jesus’ name

Open Heaven May 16 2018

The Bible admonishes that since we naturally desire to receive hospitality from others, we should show it to others well. The Lord in Matthew 7:12 says,

“All things whatsoever yo would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.”
‎Even when describing the type of fast that God finds acceptable, the Holy spirit in Isaiah 58:7b said :

“Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast our to thy house?”

Deuteronomy 26:12 also speaks about feeding the stranger, the fatherless and the widow. All these verses of the scripture show that we are duty-bound as children of God to provide for the needs of these classes of people regularly. Open Heaven 15 May 2018 -DIVINE CONNECTION

More importantly, Jesus clearly teaches that hospitality is going to be a major criterion that will be used to separate the sheep from the goat on the last day (Matthew 25:33-35). This means that it will be practically impossible for anyone to enter heaven without being hospitable.

Jesus expects every Christian to love their neighbour as themselves. He expects us to use hospitality as a tool to spread the love of God and the good news of the gospel all over the world. I pray that you will yield yourself an instrument of spreading God’s love everywhere through hospitality in Jesus’ name

How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds

Verse 1

In a believer’s ear!

It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,

And drives away his fear.

Verse 2:

It makes the wounded spirit whole,

And calms the troubled breast;

’Tis manna to the hungry soul,

And to the weary, rest.

Verse 3:

Jesus! My Shepherd, Husband, Friend,

 O Prophet, Priest and King,

 My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,

 Accept the praise I bring.

Verse 4:

Weak is the effort of my heart,

 And cold my warmest thought;

 But when I see Thee as Thou art,

 I’ll praise Thee as I ought.

Verse 5:

Till then I would Thy love proclaim

With every fleeting breath,

And may the music of Thy Name

Refresh my soul in death!

12 And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:

14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.

20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.

21 And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.

22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;

23 And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father’s house for us to lodge in?

24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.

25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.

26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the Lord.

OPEN HEAVEN 15 MAY 2018 TUESDAY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Divine connection simply means the connection of an individual to sources that would help to fast-track the fulfillment of his or her destiny. In Psalm 37:23, the Holy Spirit teaches:

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”

This was the testimony of Abraham’s servant in today’s Bible text. He was amazed at the way the God of his master answered his simple child-like prayer of faith. Open Heaven 14 May 2018

Beyond his wildest imagination, things worked out in his favour because God had already sent His angels ahead of him to work everything out. When you are divinely connected, people will think that you are wise or brilliant.

Prayer Points on Today’s Open Heavens: (Monday, May 14, 2018) – When God Remembers You

Some may even mistake you for a genius! I pray for you today that God will give you divine connections that will confound everyone who hears about it in Jesus’ Name.
When we draw close to God and do His bidding, we earn ourselves divine connections (James 4:8)Hebrews 6:10says,

“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

OPEN HEAVENS 15 MAY 2018 TUESDAY

Some people complain about following Jesus without anything to show for it. Some people may be in their season of sowing, or they might not have been following Him according to the pattern He has laid down. The Lord is a faithful covenant-keeper who cannot lie. In Matthew 19:29 He said:

“And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.”

If you have been walking with God with nothing to show for it spiritually and materially, take time to carefully evaluate your walk. If you need divine connection, you must be faithful to the profession of faith you made when you gave your life to Christ. Our calling, like that of Abraham the father of faith, is call unto holiness (Genesis 17:1, 1st Thessalonians 4:7).

Abraham did not compromise his calling by going back to the world; there is nothing for you there. To be divinely connected, you need to add virtue and brotherly kindness to your faith, because faith without works is dead (James 2:17).

Renew your relationship with the Lord and let holiness become your watchword. Endeavour to please Him in all your ways just as the early Church did, and you will then experience divine connection.

Prayer Point – Open Heavens 15 May 2018

Father, please grant me divine connections that will lead to my breakthrough in Jesus’ Name.

Nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer to Thee;

E’ en though it be a cross

That raiseth me,

Still all my song shall be

Nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer to Thee.

Though, like a wanderer

The sun gone down,

Darkness comes over me,

My rest a stone;

Yet in my dreams I’d be

Nearer, my God, to Thee

Nearer, my God, to Thee

Nearer to Thee.

There let me see the sight,

An open heaven;

All that thou sendest me,

In mercy given;

Angles to beckon me

Nearer, my God, to Thee

Nearer, my God, to Thee

Nearer to Thee

Then, with my walking thoughts

Bright with Thy praise,

Out of my stony griefs

Bethel I’ll raise,

So by my woes to be

Nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer to Thee

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS MONDAY 14TH MAY 2018: WATCH YOUR WORDS

MEMORISE: Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister
grace to the hearers. Ephesians 4:29

Please read: Matthew 12:33-37

MESSAGE:
As a child of God, you must be very careful with the way you use words. If God who is your
Father could create the entire universe by the Word, then you have the power in your mouth to
do and undo.

Proverbs 18:21 says that life and death are in the power of the tongue and
because of this, the words we say go a long way in determining the course of our lives.

How do you use your tongue? Do you say negative things
about yourself or others? Do you slander others
or gossip with your tongue? Stop it! You are actually committing murder with your tongue.

Do you speak abusively towards your friends and
family members? Or do you tell dirty jokes or use swear words? Watch your words! Everything you say with your mouth is being recorded, and will
be judged by Christ.

Your words can bring long life and prosperity to you, or it can bring sorrow and untold hardship to you. Be careful about what you say, how you say it, and who you say it to.

KEY POINT:
Let your words bring life, not death.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 9-11

Hymn 2
1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His
Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the
skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4.But we never can prove the delights of His
love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

  1. 5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His
    feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
    What He says we will do, where He sends we will
    go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged;

2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

Remembrance is the process of recalling the last or being able to bring to the fore of one’s mind an awareness of someone or something. Although it is not in the nature or character of God to forget anything like we humans do (because he is the All-knowing God), the word “remember” is used in relation to God in several passages of the Bible to connote the reception of special attention from Him. Open Heaven 13 May 2018

When God remembers a person for good, the person’s situation is transformed immediately. This is the reason why several people in the Bible cried to God to remember them. The Lord will hear your cry for remembrance today in Jesus’ name.

In Judges 16:28, Samson cried “Lord God, remember me”, and the Lord answered him immediately. In Nehemiah 13:14, Nehemiah also cried “Remember me; O my God.” When King Hezekiah was faced with death, He cried to God “Remember how I walked before you in truth and with a loyal heart” (Isaiah 38:3).

Furthermore, Jeremiah cried unto God to remember his covenant with Israel (Jeremiah 14:21). In all these cases of people calling unto God for remembrance, He responded favourably and intervened in their situations. I pray that God will remember you for good and intervene in your situation today in Jesus’ name

When God remembers you, He will immediately put an end to everything that is working against your peace , just as He did for Noah when He commanded the flood waters to cease (Genesis 8:1). When God remembers you , He will deliver you from all your troubles as He did for Lot and his family in Genesis 19:29.

He will also put an end to barrenness and open. Your womb for fruitfulness, just as He did for Rachel and Hannah (Genesis 30:22, 1 Samuel 1:19). By the grace of God, we have heard several heart warming testimonies in the Redeemed Christian Church of God about what happens when God remembers His people for good after years of suffering, sorrow and pain.

Open Heaven 14 May 2018

Barrenness of over twenty years has been terminated, incurable diseases have been healed , mental illnesses have been cured , captives have been delivered, generational curses have been cancelled, poverty has been terminated, and destinies have been restored.

I remember several previously barren women whom God remembered and blessed with twins and triplets. God remembered a certain Lady who still used to wet her bed at over thirty years of age, and the bed wetting stopped instantly. Just as Jesus healed the impotent man after 38 years of being at the pool side(John 5), we have heard testimonies of wicked embargoes on marriage being lifted even after attaining 50 years of age. God will remember you for good and give special attention to your case in Jesus’ name

12 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. 14 And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

16 And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

INTRODUCTION:

Gideon, also called Jerubbaal (Judges 6:29,32), was of the tribe of Manasseh. He was the son of Joash, of the family of Abiezer (Judges 6:11). He was a valiant and prudent judge of Israel, particularly the eastern and northern tribes, (B. C. 1249 to 1209). He resided in Ophrah, east of the Jordan, a region often ravanged in harvest-time by the wandering tribes on its eastern border. Being called of God to deliver his people, and encouraged by signs from Heaven, he defeated the Midiantites, and caused Israel to dwell in safety for many years. Gideon had many wives and seventy sons (Judges 8:30). He also had a son named Abimelech by a concubine in Shechem (Judges 8:31). Died in “a good old age, and was buried in the sepulcher of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites” (Judges 8:32).

LESSON OUTLINES
1. Character and achievements
2. Lessons from his life

CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENT
Gideon was a humble man who did not believe he was capable of saving Israel because his family was poor and he was the least in his father’s house (Judges 6:15). An angel of the LORD appeared to him and delivered God’s commission to him – he was a “mighty man of valour; God was with him, and would “save Israel”. (Judges 6:12,14). Gideon as reluctant to believe that God would be with him and asked for a sign, which God gave (Judges 6:16-24).
Gideon gathered an army of 22,000 men to fight the Midianites, but God cut it to 300 so all would know that it was God that won the battle (Judges 7:2-4).

LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE
1. Christians must always be ready. God may call you at any time to accomplish His purpose (Isaiah 6:8).
2. You must always remember that God “gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
3. God gives us the power to do whatever He tells us to do, no matter how difficult it may seem to be (Philippians 2:13; 3:14).
4. Courage in the face of adversity can accomplish great things (Deuteronomy 31:6).
5. Victory over the battles of life is not achieved through human ability but through divine interventions (Zechariah 4:6; Exodus 14:13-14; 2 Chronicles 20:17).

CONCLUSION:
Often times, when God wants to accomplish a great task, He does not call the qualified but qualifies the called.

QUESTIONS:
1. Identify the character of the man, Gideon

2. What are the lessons to learn from the life of Gideon?

TEXT REVIEW: JUDGES 6:11-16

WORDS OF COURAGE AND ASSURANCE

Statement of courage and assurance can bring an abrupt end to years of oppression and intimidation. In today’s story, five statements of assurance brought the Israelites out of seven (7) years of pains inflicted upon them by the Midianite oppressors, Judge6:1-5. These life-restoring statements are stated below:

i. The Lord is with you. Judges 6: 12a.
ii. You are a mighty man of valour (not a coward). Judges 6:12b.
iii. Go in this your might Judges 6:14a
iv. You will save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Judges 6:14b.
v. I have sent/commissioned you. Judges 6:14c.

The teacher’s words to students in affliction must bring light of hope and recovery of destiny. Towing the path of excuse given by the shekels as Gideon did in Judges 6:13, may prolong the pains. Teacher should be so sure of his God and present same to those in affliction. Joshua said, “We are well able” Number 13:30. The three Hebrews said, “Our God is able.” Dan. 317. Therefore we are well able to win the battles through God on our side. Judges 7:25.

Lesson Outline 1: CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENTS

A. HIS CHARACTER
i. He was humble.
ii. He did not believe he could be qualified for God to use because his family was poor and least Judges 6:15
iii. He was encouraged and strengthened by the angel of the Lord. Judges 6:12,14
iv. The angel of the Lord described him as “a mighty man of valour. Judges 6:12.
v. God commissioned him through his angel to “save Israel Judges 6:14.
vi. God gave him a proof that he would be with him through a sign from the angel. Judges 6:16-24.

MESSAGE:
Whether we know it or not, our younger ones are watching us. The younger ones at home, church and school are copying everything they see us do. It is your choice to be good examples to them or bad examples. You must decide not to lead them astray. When you watch TV, your
younger ones are taking note of the programs to watch when they are your age. When you use
insulting words, your younger ones are memorizing the words to use when they get the.chance to. Open Heaven 13 May 2018

Don’t be deceived by thinking everyone has their
separate lives to live, this is not true, we all influence each other even when we don’t try. If
you are the first born of your family, you will probably be the greatest influencer of every
other child in the family. By implication, the kind
of family that you will be known as in the future depend on how you influence your younger ones
today. Be a good example to them; teach them to love others, to be kind, to study their Bible, to
pray, to be respectful and to be serious with their
academics. Be a good example to your younger
ones

PRAYER POINT:
Lord Jesus Christ, help me to be a good example
from today, and to be a good ambassador for
you.
