INTRODUCTION: Acts 1:10-11 describes the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ as personal, bodily, and visible, and that His second coming will be in like manner. However, the second coming will be in two stages: the rapture which will be sudden (1Thess. 4:15-17) – when the Lord comes for His saints and we meet Him in the air and then, the revelation that is public (Rev.1:7) – when the Lord comes with His saints to set up the millennium, at the end of the great tribulation period (1Thess.3:13). The time of His coming is a secret that only God the Father knows (Matt. 24:36).

1. PROPHECIES AND PURPOSE OF HIS SECOND COMING
A. The first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ was prophesied among other prophecies that have come to pass. This gives us great confidence that the prophecies of the second coming will also be fulfilled.

B. Christ’s second coming was foretold:
i. By the prophets (Dan.7:13).
ii. By Jesus Himself (Matt.25:31).
iii. By Paul (1 Tim.6:14).
iv. By angels (Acts 1:10-11).

C. Christ is coming again:
1.To complete the salvation of saints. He has delivered us from the power and penalty of sin but then He shall deliver us from the presence of sin and Satan (Heb.9:28).

2.To be glorified and admired in His saints (2 Thess.1:10).

3.To bring to light the hidden things of darkness (1 Cor. 4:5).

4.To judge (2 Tim.4:1) and to reign (Rev.11:15).

5.To receive us to be with Himself (Jn.14:3) and to destroy death (1 Cor.15:25-26).

THE MANNER OF HIS COMING AND ITS SIGNS
A. At the rapture, saints will meet Christ in the air (1 Thess.4:17); at the revelation, we will descend with Him to the earth.
i. Christ is coming in the clouds (Matt.24:30).
ii. In the glory of His Father (Matt.16:27).
iii. In His own glory (Matt.25:31).
iv. In flaming fire (2 Thess.1:8).
v. With power and great glory (Matt.24:30).
vi. Bodily, as He ascended (Acts.1:9-11).
vii. With a shout and voice of the archangel (1Thess.4:16).

B. Signs of His coming:
2Timothy 3:1-7 lists 23 signs of His coming, most of which are very evident today. Matthew 24:5-7, 12-38 also lists 10 signs, which are: the appearance of false Christs; wars and rumours of wars; famines; pestilences; earthquakes; iniquity to abound; the love of many will wax cold; people will be eating, drinking, merry-making. Other signs include: the destruction of Jerusalem (Lk.21:20, 24); the completion of the Church (Rom.11: 25); the Gospel must be preached everywhere (Matt.24:14) and the coming of the antichrist (2Thess.2:3-8).

C. While we ought to plan and work as if He will not be coming for another century, we must live a holy and pure life all the time as if He will return today (1Thess.3:12-13). This most important doctrine must affect our lives. It should keep us busy, preaching the gospel day in, day out, praying, and watching with all perseverance (Eph.6:18).

OPEN HEAVEN 21 AUGUST 2023 MESSAGE

The call of God is actually a call to God. It isn’t a call to something but a call to Himself. When He calls you, He is saying, “Come closer to me”. In Mark 3:14, the Bible says that the first reason He called the disciples was that they should be with Him.

The call of God is two-fold. First, He can call you to leave your sinful ways (Matthew 11:28). This is the very first call that every man will receive. It is a call that brings you close and guarantees an eternity with Him if you answer.

Thus, when you hear an altar call, it is God Himself calling you to salvation. If you are still committing sin, this is one call that you should not ignore. You don’t know the final call that God will make for you to come to Him for salvation.

Many have received God’s call to salvation but then, after a while, started to live in sin again. That is not how this call works (Luke 9:62). If you sincerely answer the call to salvation, then holiness would be your lifestyle.

If you become saved and then start living a double life where you sin willfully, the Bible says that God would spew you out of His mouth (Revelation 3:16) – in other words, He would reject you completely.

(2 Timothy 2:19) says, “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

If you claim to be a child of God, then you must depart from all iniquity. If you don’t depart from iniquity, then God would not recognise you as His child.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; – (1 Peter 2:9)

Once God calls you out of darkness into His marvelous light, you are described as a holy nation – not an unholy one. Be perfect, even as the One who called you is Perfect (Matthew 5:48).

Last year, God gave us a prophecy that some previously unknown stars would arise, and truly, many people all over the world got recognized and celebrated for the feats they achieved in many sectors, especially in sports. In our text, Joseph was imprisoned after being wrongly accused.

Even the butler, who promised to remember him when he got back into the palace, forgot him until after two years when God caused Pharaoh to have a disturbing dream.

In less than a day, he became the most influential foreigner in Egypt and beyond.
God is the only true source of promotion, and He can choose to promote one slowly, quickly or even dramatically.

Are you unknown today in your family, Church or community? I encourage you to keep serving God and doing His will. Very soon, the whole world will hear about you because you are a star!

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Heaven can be described as the highest place, the holiest place, a paradise which is the abode of God, a state of bliss, a sacred reality, while Hell or the underworld are the lowest places, the abode of evil or demonic spirits and a state of spiritual impoverishment. For our lives extends beyond the grave, every departed soul ends up in either Heaven or Hell.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL
A. Heaven is generally thought of as a realm in which people experience the bliss of perfect fellowship and harmony with God and with each other; while Hell is in general thought of a realm in which people experience the greatest possible estrangement from God.

B. Heaven is God’s Kingdom where the Lord has prepared mansions for His own; while Hell is a place of everlasting fire prepared for the devil, his cohorts, the wicked and the disobedient- Matt. 25:41.

C. Heaven is reserved for the blessed of the Father to inherit; while Hell is for cursed – Matt. 25:34, 41.

1. PROPHECIES AND PURPOSE OF HIS SECOND COMING
The first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ was prophesied among other prophecies that have come to pass. This gives us great confidence that the prophecies of the second coming will also be fulfilled. Christ’s second coming was foretold: by the prophets (Dan.7:13); by Jesus Himself (Matt.25:31); by Paul (1Tim. 6:14); and by angels (Acts 1:10-11).
Christ is coming again:

1. To complete the salvation of saints. He has delivered us from the power and penalty of sin but then He shall deliver us from the presence of sin and Satan (Heb.9:28).

2. To be glorified and admired in His saints (2Thess.1:10).

3. To bring to light the hidden things of darkness (1Cor.4:5).

4. To judge (2Tim. 4:1) and to reign (Rev.11:15).

5. To receive us to be with Himself (Jn.14:3) and to destroy death (1Cor.15:25-26).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss why some people assume/believe that Christ will not come the second time despite the prophecies.

2. THE MANNER OF HIS COMING AND ITS SIGNS
At the rapture, saints will meet Christ in the air (1Thess.4:17); at the revelation, we will descend with Him to the earth. Christ is coming in the clouds (Matt.24:30); in the glory of His Father (Matt.16:27); in His own glory (Matt.25:31); in flaming fire (2Thess.1:8); with power and great glory (Matt.24:30); bodily, as He ascended (Acts 1:9-11); with a shout and voice of the archangel (1Thess. 4:16); with His saints (1Thess.3:13); accompanied by angels (Matt.16:27) and suddenly (Mk.13:36).

2Timothy 3:1-7 lists 23 signs of His coming, most of which are very evident today. Matthew 24:5-7, 12-38 also lists 10 signs, which are: the appearance of false Christs; wars and rumours of war; famines; pestilences; earthquakes; iniquity to abound; the love of many will wax cold; people will be eating, drinking, merry-making. Other signs include: the destruction of Jerusalem (Lk.21:20, 24); the completion of the Church (Rom.11:25); the Gospel must be preached everywhere (Matt.24:14) and the coming of the antichrist (2 Thess.2:3-8).

While we ought to plan and work as if He will not be coming for another century, we must live a holy and pure life all the time as if He will return today (1Thess. 3:12-13).This most important doctrine must affect our lives. It should keep us busy, preaching the gospel day in, day out, praying and watching with all perseverance (Eph.6:18).

CONCLUSION: Christ’s second coming is sure and certain (2 Pet.3:3-12).

OPEN HEAVEN 20 AUGUST 2023 MESSAGE

From the story of Bartimaeus, we learn that darkness and sorrow go hand in hand. You don’t have to understand philosophy to know that a blind beggar must have been sad. I pray for you: Your eyes will never grow dim, in Jesus’ name.

Darkness and sorrow go hand in hand, which means light brings joy. Psalm 16:11 says: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Our Bible reading for today says that when the Lord turned around the people’s captivity, their mouths were filled with laughter. That is the nature of Light; He brings laughter. Light stands for joy John 16:24).

There was this woman whose children were dying so she visited a white garment prophet for a solution. When she got there, the man’s wife gave her a piece of kolanut to eat, claiming that was the solution to her problem. She ate it and at night, found herself ina witchcraft meeting.

Before long, she had offered up her husband. After about two years, the other witches asked for one of her children – the very children she wanted to protect.

She attended one of our programmes in Ilorin and while | was preaching, I noticed a commotion in the congregation. After the service, the ushers told me that the woman’s dress caught fire during the preaching.

We prayed a simple prayer after which she gave her life to Christ and when she went home, she excreted a dead snake. She was free from that day on. Darkness does not give joy, all it has to offer is sorrow.

Proverbs 10:22 says it is only the blessings of God that maketh rich and addeth no sorrow. If the devil is offering you something that seems good, you will not fall for it, in Jesus’ name.

If you are truly a child of Light, how can you stay away from Jesus – the Light of the world? Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”

If you remain in darkness, you will keep suffering, but when you turn to Jesus Christ, He gives you a new beginning and turns the tide for you. If you really want to be in the Light, then you should begin to live holy from today.
