OPEN HEAVEN 5 AUGUST 2023 BIBLE READING JAMES 4:7-8

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

OPEN HEAVEN 5 AUGUST 2023 MESSAGE

Many people say that the spiritual controls the physical and this is very true; however, many don’t take advantage of this knowledge. It is time to start increasing your capacity in the spirit so that you can begin to control things in the physical.

The stronger you become in the spirit, the stronger you will be in the physical. If you don’t believe me, read (2 Kings 1:9) and then compare it to (2 Kings 6:14-15).

When the king wanted to arrest Elijah, he sent 50 soldiers and their captain, but when Elisha was to be arrested, the king sent an entire army. Elisha had a double portion of the spirit of Elijah, so in the physical, he was also stronger than Elijah.

The deeper you go in the spirit, the higher you fly in the physical. The people of the world seem to understand this better than most Christians. If an idol worshipper is to be given a position, he must complete some rituals first.

Many shallow Christians today go to the world and try to compete with these same people for such positions. Everyone knows that the higher the building will be, the deeper its foundation must also be.

You must begin to study your Bible, pray and fast more if you really want to excel in life. The deeper you go, the higher you fly.

Many have read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation, but only a few have learnt deep things about spiritual dealings from the word of God. Many have read Proverbs 6:26 but when they are being seduced by a woman, they can’t discern that there is an agenda in the spirit realm to destroy them.

This is why there are many Christians falling prey to the tricks of the devil today because they don’t understand how he operates and what to do to defeat him.

If you want to become a millionaire, you will contend with the demons that contend with millionaires. God will not take you to a level that your spiritual capacity cannot handle; if He does, then He is setting you up for defeat.

Increase your spiritual capacity and you will see Him raise you higher until your physical dominance matches your spiritual Capacity.

OPEN HEAVEN 5 AUGUST 2023 KEY POINT

If you can rule in the spirit, you will definitely rule in the physical.

OPEN HEAVEN 5 AUGUST 2023 HYMN

HYMNAL: 12 – ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS!
1. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before!
Christ, the Royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle, see His banner go!

REFRAIN:
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before!

2. At the name of Jesus, Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver, at the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthem raise!

3. Like a mighty army, moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading, where the saints have trod;
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

4. Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdom’s rise and wane;
But the Church of Jesus, constant will remain:
Gates of hell can never ‘gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

5. Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices, in the triumph song:
Glory, praise and honour, unto Christ the King;
This, through countless ages, men and angels sing.

[21]For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
[22]And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

[27]For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
[28]For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

MEMORY VERSE: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” Titus 2:11
BIBLE PASSAGE: Ephesians 2:4-10.

[4]But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
[5]Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
[6]And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
[7]That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
[8]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9]Not of works, lest any man should boast.
[10]For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: The word translated ‘Grace’ in Hebrew is chen,’ which means to bend or stoop in kindness to another as a superior to an inferior (Gen.6:8).

The Greek word for ‘Grace’ is ‘charis” and it

connotes something beyond the ordinary course of what can be expected and therefore commendable (1Cor.15:10). When used in reference to God, it is the benevolent action of Him stooping down to us in kindness to reach us in our needs and convey upon us a benefit. His grace has been termed ‘unmerited favour’ but it is more than an attitude of favour or mercy.
1. UNDERSTANDING GRACE
2. HOW TO RECEIVE GRACE
UNDERSTANDING GRACE
‘Grace’ connotes many things. It is often discribed as God’s favour towards the unworthy or His benevolence on the undeserving (Rom.5:8-10) translated into action that releases the enabling power into our lives (1 Cor.15:10). Grace signifies the gift bestowed upon man for salvation (Eph.2:8;
Tit.2:11) and for service (Eph.3:7-8; 4:7). It
is also a virtue to be manifested (2 Cor.8:7)
and a benediction to be enjoyed by believers
in Christ (Eph.6:24). Grace helps in times of
need (Phil.4:19; Heb.4:16) and enables us to
do exploits (Dan.11:32, Phil.4:13).
The covenant of grace differs considerably
from Old Testament covenants under the law. While the law blessed ‘the good, grace saves the bad.! The law accuses and convicts, ‘Grace’ cancels bonds and relieves the debtor (Rom.6:14).
Paul describes ‘Grace’ as the appearance of
the kindness and love of God our Saviour towards man (Tit.2:11; 3:4). God shows both
Mercy and Grace but they are not exactly the
same. Mercy withholds a punishment we deserve; grace gives a blessing we do not

HOW TO RECEIVE GRACE
Basically, the grace of God can be received
through the following ways but not limited to
1. By accepting God’s love towards all men
(Jn.3:16; Rom.5:8)
2. By believing in the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom.10:9-10) through God’s mercy and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit (1 Tim.1:13;
Heb.4:16; Matt.9:13).
3. By exercising our faith, no matter how little
at all times (Matt.17:20; Rom.1:17).
4. By being humble before God (Jam.4:6;
1Pet.5:5).
5. By loving the Lord Jesus with all of our
hearts (Eph.6:24).
6. Through sufferings and trials arranged for
us by God (Rom.8:28; 1Pet. 5:10; 2Cor.12:9).
7. Through the prophetic words of prayer
contained in the Bible or spoken to us by our
spiritual heads and fellow believers in Christ
(Ps.107:20; Acts 20:32; 2Tim.4:22; 1 Thess.1:1).
CONCLUSION: Grace is the spring and source of all benefits received from God (Romans 11:6). God’s grace should not be taken for granted (Rom.6:1-2; Gal.2:21).
QUESTIONS:
1. Explain your understanding of grace.
2. Mention five (5) ways grace can be received.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Isaiah 61:1-3
[1]“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

[2]To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,
[3]To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
MEMORY VERSE: “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” Jonah 3:2 (NKJV).
INTRODUCTION: Evangelism is the faithful proclamation of the truth of the Scriptures while living our lives as true followers of Jesus. Evangelism can be pretty hard or awkward when we have to confront a family member, a friend, schoolmate, acquaintance, or even a stranger who is not a Christian. Some people may get offended when they hear the gospel but there is no reason to give up. This is why it is expedient for every believer to know the rules of engagement when reaching out to sinners with the gospel.

1. THE CONCEPT OF THE GOSPEL
2. PREACHING THE GOSPEL
1. THE CONCEPT OF THE GOSPEL
The Bible says everyone has sinned (Rom. 3:23). It says sinners will die because of their sin (Ezek.18:20; Rom.6:23). However, God’s good news is amazing. He loves the world so much that He sent Jesus to die for the sins of sinners (Jn.3:16). Jesus is the only person who has never sinned (1 Pet.2:22; 1Jn.3:5), so He is the only person who could take the punishment for our sins (Rom.5:8). He rose from the dead to show us His power (1 Cor.15:4). Jesus is the only path to heaven (Jn. 14:6). This is why believers need to share the gospel of Jesus to save the sinful world from destruction. However, such believers should be sure of their salvation (Jn.3:3; 1Pet.1:23); live a pure life (1Jn.3:3); be kind and patient (Eph.4:32); be prayerful (1Thess.5:17); study the word of God (2Tim.2:15); get wisdom (Prov.4:7) and exhibit other good and godly virtues (Phil.4:8). The Bible also says we are to share the gospel with no excuses (Matt.28:19-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Pet. 3:15).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should discuss their first experience during evangelism.

2.PREACHING THE GOSPEL: There are lots of reasons believers should share their faith wherever they go. Be encouraged that there is no “right” or “wrong” way to share the gospel (Eph.4:11-16). Some believers have a very easy time talking about Jesus to others. Believers can, however, follow these procedures: Seek and pray for opportunities to preach to someone (2 Pet.1:11); be cheerful and present your facts about salvation in a very simple way using simple language (Acts 17:23); share the testimony of your own salvation (Acts 22:6-9); tell the person to confess his/her sins and accept Jesus as his/her Lord and Saviour (Rom.10:9-10); Remember to pray for the person you have preached to (Eph.1:15-16).

In this era of technological advancement and social media proliferation, many souls can be reached for Christ via the various platforms available (Facebook, Whatsapp, telegram, Tik-Tok, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Do not be ashamed of sharing the gospel of our Lord Jesus with friends, families, old schoolmates (Rom.1:16). This act is our obligation as followers of Christ and it carries the power and backing of God for the salvation of souls that are perishing (Jn.14:12; Matt.28:19-20; Mk.16:15-18). Do not just be a social influencer, be a kingdom/gospel influencer (Tit.2:7).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2:.How can we preach the gospel using the social media?
CONCLUSION: Anyone who wins souls to the kingdom of God is wise. Join the train now. It is highly rewarding.
QUESTIONS:
Explain what the concept of the gospel is.

How can you preach the gospel?

iii. Be kind and patient (Eph.4:32).
iv. Be prayerful (1Thess.5:17).
v. Study the word of God (2Tim.2:15).
vi. Get wisdom (Prov.4:7) and exhibit other good and godly virtues (Phil.4:8).
D. The Bible also says we are to share the gospel with no excuses (Matt.28:19-20; Acts 1:8; 1Pet. 3:15).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should discuss their first experience during evangelism.
2. PREACHING THE GOSPEL
A. There are lots of reasons believers should share their faith wherever they go. Be encouraged that there is no “right” or “wrong” way to share the gospel (Eph.4:11-16). Some believers have a very easy time talking about Jesus to others. Believers can, however, follow these procedures:
i. Seek and pray for opportunities to preach to someone (2Pet.1:11).
ii. Be cheerful and present your facts about salvation in a very simple way using simple language (Acts 17:23).
iii. Share the testimony of your own salvation (Acts 22:6-9).
iv. Tell the person to confess his/her sins and accept Jesus as his/her Lord and Saviour (Rom.10:9-10).

v. Remember to pray for the person you have preached to (Eph.1:15-16).

B. Take advantage of technology:
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: How can we preach the gospel using the social media?
CONCLUSION: Anyone who wins souls to the kingdom of God is wise. Join the train now. It is highly rewarding.
EVALUATION: Explain what the concept of the gospel is.
CLOSING PRAYER: Father, give me the grace of a soul winner.
ASSIGNMENT Make a plan to witness to at least five people this week. Write down their names and phone contacts (2×5=10 marks).

Does manifest in thee.

This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee
5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,

Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please help me to remain in You and enjoy the grace of God throughout my life in the name of Jesus.
MEMORY VERSE: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” Titus 2:11.
LESSON AIM: To study the dynamics of grace.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: Through the lesson, students should be able to:
a.Understand the meaning of grace.
b.Discover the requirements to receive grace.
TEXT REVIEW: Ephesians 2:4-10.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 4 AUGUST 2023

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 4 AUGUST 2023 MEMORIZE: And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. Mark 9:29

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 4 AUGUST 2023 BIBLE READING Mark 9:28-29

[28]And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
[29]And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 4 AUGUST 2023 MESSAGE

Fasting is necessary for one’s spiritual growth, but it should not be engaged in without a purpose in mind.

Many people engage in a fast because it was announced in their church or imposed on them by their parents, hence, they have no good result to show for it.
When you fast and pray for a specific purpose, your desires are controlled even when it is difficult because your mind is focused on something bigger than food.
For example, if the breadwinner of your home is down with a kidney problem and needs God to give him/her a new kidney, that’s a serious purpose to declare a fast for until a miracle happens.
You might even lose your appetite because you’re worried about the situation.

I tell my children that when the purpose of your fast is strong enough, it will motivate you to rely solely on God. This will also make you pray often and strengthen your faith.

In fact, whenever you feel hunger pangs, you will pray harder in line with the purpose of your fast.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 3 AUGUST 2023 ACTION POINT

Having a purpose for fasting will help you pray right.
