Whenever you ask God for anything, make sure that it is something that will bring glory to His name. Don’t ask for things that would serve just you, but that would also be useful to Him. If you want to win an election, you should tell Him how you would use your position to glorify His name. That is the kind of prayer that gets His attention.

God can decide to ignore you if you choose to bombard Him with requests. However, if you come to Him telling Him how you plan to advance His kingdom here on earth with the miracle you are asking for, He will pay attention to You.

Hannah understood this principle, so she prayed thus: And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. – (1 Samuel 1:11)

God granted her request by giving her a son who grew to become a great prophet and then gave her five more children.

Seek to glorify God first and you will see Him giving you more than you asked for. He knew your needs before you came to Him (Matthew 6:8); so give Him an offer He cannot refuse and you will see Him supplying your needs in abundance.

You may say, “God loves me and | believe He will give me whatever I want”. No doubt, He loves you, but He has a purpose for everything He does. You may have thought that God drowned Pharaoh in the Red Sea just because He loves the Israelites, but Romans 9:17 says: For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

The real reason God destroyed Pharaoh was to declare His glory and majesty throughout the earth. God’s agenda is always superior to ours; if you align your agenda with His, then you will get what you want.

Today’s Bible text sounds a great warning to young people against making unguarded comments about other people or their looks.
At that time in Israel, Elijah was one of the most popular prophets, so we know that these children knew him.
However, they threw caution to the wind and made fun of his bald head.
In response, the man of God cursed them, and they became food for the two bears.
Making fun of people’s looks, failures, or character is a sign of immaturity and foolishness.
A jester forgets that God is the Creator of all and laughing at His creation is a direct insult to Him.
Young people need to be careful not to fall into a snare by the words of their mouths or what they post on social media. Some of them go to the extent of abusing or cursing genuine men of God online.
Some young people laugh at the grammatical blunders of their pastor or teacher and, in the process, miss out on God’s blessings for them in that encounter.
I pray that you will not destroy your future with carelessness in Jesus’ name.

It doesn’t matter how low you are now, there is still hope for a great future. I have seen God lift people from the miry clay and take them to the mountain top. Believe it or not, He will do the same for you, in Jesus’ name.

My story is proof of this; I walked barefoot for the first eighteen years of my life. 1 can never forget my final year in grammar school. Prize-Giving day was coming up and I was supposed to take home many prizes.

Those of us in our final year were to wear white trousers and shoes but I had no trousers – white, black or red. As for shoes, I had never owned one. I started lamenting, “God, you know I have no trousers; why did You allow me to win these prizes?”

One day, a boy in the hostel asked me to help him choose which of his six trousers he should wear for the ceremony. I helped him choose one and then said, “Ermm, you know I don’t even have one to wear”. “Pick one,” he offered.

Although the trouser was so big that I nearly had to pull the waistband up to my chest, I didn’t care; trousers were trousers. Now, the next problem was shoes. It was then I remembered that I had a poor uncle somewhere who had some shoes.

The pair he gave me was old, with soles made from old lorry tires. I had to practice walking in them because I had never worn shoes before in my life. However, when the Prize-Giving day finally came, I had trousers and shoes to wear to the occasion.

Even if your current situation is worse than what I have just described, I assure you that the Lord who lifted me up can do the same for you. Greater days are coming, if you trust God and lay all in His hands.

I must say that God did not raise me just because He felt like doing so; He did it to show forth His own glory. He said when your light shines before men, it is so that they can glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

If you dedicate your life to glorifying Him and are never shy to give Him glory for whatever you achieve, He will raise you, even higher than you can ever imagine. Greater days are ahead of you, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 31 JULY 2023 MESSAGE

Engaging in a fast is great, as it builds up your spiritual muscles if done correctly.

One of the right ways to fast is by praying and studying the word of God more intently.
The time a person spends fasting will be more beneficial spiritually if he/she gives a great time praying during the fast.
Without prayer, fasting is starving; it is just staying without food.
If you want your fasting to be meaningful and not be a dieting exercise where you go without eating, you must lift your heart and voice in communion with your Heavenly Father.

As you fellowship with the Father, He releases revelations or instructions that will either bring a solution or clarity to any unpleasant situation in your life. Also, it can strengthen you against future temptations.
However, before you embark on a fast, you need to have a purpose so that you can have the right scriptures to study and the right prayer points.

If you do these, your fasts will produce results.

OPEN HEAVEN 31 JULY 2023 MESSAGE

What is leading you in life?
Is it your flesh or the Spirit of God?
Whenever you allow the flesh to give you direction, it will always end in regret, but when you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in all things, you can be sure that all will be well.
The first step to overcoming lusts and temptations is submission to God, which supplies the power you need to resist the devil, and he will flee from you according to James 4:7.

Moreover, the good news is that the faithfulness of God will not allow his children to be tempted above their ability, without making a way of escape for them.
In our Bible reading today, we saw that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear and He will always make a way of escape for us. That is so reassuring, it is for this reason that James 1:2-4 and James 1:12, admonish us to count it as joy and blessing when we are going through diverse temptations.

This is because; God uses it to perfect the patience of His children, and also as promotion exams for them to receive the crown of life.
In spite of the assurance above, however, if for example, your eyes are always glued to seductive images from the television, the internet, and your surroundings, you are merely feeding the lust in your flesh and such will lead you to hell.
Don’t fall into it. If you still tolerate ungodly desires to dwell and grow in your heart, heavenly thought, divine vision, and inspirations cannot find expression in you.
All believers are required to present their bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable unto God. Your body is the temple of God, not a showpiece for people.
If you choose to dress in a way to stir lust in the opposite sex, you can no longer claim to be a child of God, but an instrument in the hands of the devil.

Whoever you honor with your appearance, determines who you truly serve. God has provided us with everything we need to overcome lust and temptation through Jesus Christ, all we need is to follow His example.

Hebrew 4:15 says Jesus our High Priest was in all points tempted, but He scale over them all without sin.
He has given us the power to resist the devil and to live above lust and temptation. Hallelujah!

INTRODUCTION: Scoffer, in Greek – ‘empaiktés,’ simply translates to a mocker. A scoffer mocks sin, Christ, twists God’s word for selfish gains, opposes the gospel, and the things of God. The Bible uses scornful, scorner and scoffer interchangeably which all means mocker. Believers are warned to be careful and be on guard.

There are some peculiar traits of scoffers. They deny the truths of Scripture and entice others to go along with their error (Jude 4). They refuse to believe the word of the Lord and despise God’s ministers (2Chr.36:16). They question the second coming of the Lord Jesus pointing out the lapse of time and mock those who still wait and yearn for Jesus’ appearance (2Pet.3:4). They follow ungodly desires and create divisions in the church (2Pet.3:3; Jude 18-19). They have a form of godliness but deny its power (2 Tim.3:5). They present lofty-sounding ideas to lead people astray (2 Pet.2:1). They incite violent acts (Prov.29:8). They are proud people who make the judgment of God light (Isa.28:14-15).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should check themselves to see which of the traits stated above is in their lives and say what they will do to make things right.
2. THE DISPOSITION OF BELIEVERS
The proliferation of scoffers is one of the signs of the last days. (2Pet.3:3). Hence, it is critically important that, believers:
1. Take seriously the commands to study and meditate on God’s word (Ps.1:1-2; Josh.1:8).
2. Remain in Christ spotless and blameless (2Pet.3:14; Eph.5:27).
3. Continue to wait for the appearance of the Lord (Tit.2:13).
4. Weigh every teaching/preaching with the word of God (Acts 17:11).
5. Know that God is never slack concerning His promises (2 Pet.3:9).
6. Be established on their holy faith (Jude 20) and remain steadfast to the end (1 Cor.16:13; 1 Tim.6:12).
7. Try all spirits (1Jn.4:1) and grow in grace (2 Pet.3:18).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: How can we protect ourselves from scoffers?
CONCLUSION: Beware of scoffers and refuse to be one (Ps.1:1).

INTRODUCTION: God’s desire is that His. people will be clean outwardly and inwardly (Zech.3:4). He loves those whose hearts and
lives are perfect towards Him and has made adequate provision for their all-round cleansing (Heb.10:22). In Psalm 51:7 David prayed for God’s cleansing. We also have a crucial role to play in this matter. Therefore, we need to examine the issue of self-cleansing carefully.

2. HOW CAN A MAN CLEANSE HIMSELF?
WHAT IS SELF-CLEANSING?
Self-cleansing is a conscious and decisive effort put in by man to purge himself of all
filthiness (2 Cor.7:1) to become whole ard
acceptable to God, through the help of the Holy Spirit. It involves the thorough sanitation of a life whose filth has been revealed through the mirror of God’s word (sa.6:5). It is a renewal of one’s mind (Rom.12:2). It is putting away evil deeds (Isa.1:16), the wickedness of the heart and impure thoughts (Jer.4:14). It is giving no room for sin in one’s life (Rom. 6:12-13). It is putting off the old man with his deeds (Eph.4:22; Col.3:9) and putting on the new man in all righteousness after the image of Christ (Eph.4:24; Col. 3:10).
Self-cleansing makes us honourable and useful vessels – 2 Tim.2:21. It is essential for
those that have the hope of eternal life with
Jesus – 1Jn.3:3. It provides a platform to appear before God blameless and to obtain answers to prayers – Heb.10:22; Heb.4:6.
HOW CAN A MAN CLEANSE HIMSELF?
It is absolutely true that we are purged and
cleansed through the shed blood of our Lord
Jesus Christ (Heb.9:14,22). However, the Bible raises a fundamental question in Psalm 119:9, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
“The Bible also provides the answer, “…by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” Having identified the grey areas in your life, take heed’ to necessary adjustments and make changes show that you fear God. Lay aside weights and besetting sins (Heb.12:1). Steer clear of the appearances of evil (1Thess, 5:22). Wash thoroughly in the water of God’s word

Eph.5:26; Ezek.36:25; Heb.10:22). Mortify

(crush, degrade, kilI) the deeds of the flesh
(Rom.8:13; Col.3:5, 8-9) with the help of the Holy Spirit and draw near to God (Janm.4:8).
CONCLUSION: If you are indeed in Christ and
His Spirit is in you, self-cleansing will not be
an uphill task.
