1. MENTAL HEALTH DEFINED
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Mental Health as a state of well-being in which every individual can carry out four roles:
(a) Realize his/her potentials
(b) Cope with normal stress of life
(c) Work productively
(d) Participate meaningfully in the community. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. Mental ill-health, in contrast, is a psychological disorder affecting one’s mood, thinking and behaviour. The term mental illness covers a broad range of disorders from mild depression to schizophrenia – a condition that impairs a person’s ability to think, feel, process and respond to life situations in an appropriate way. Mental illness can distort our view of God and others and as well contribute to sinful behaviour.
There are some cases of emotional issues in the Bible such as depression (1Kgs.19:1-4; Jonah 4:3), loneliness (1Kgs.19:10), hopelessness (1Kgs.17:9-12), suicide (Matt.27:5), rejection (1 Sam. 18:7-8), insanity (Mk.5:1-5) etc.

2. CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS
God’s desire for believers is to live a peaceful
and fulfilled life (Gen.25:8; Jer.29:11).
However, there are some believers who are
not operating in this realm of God’s intention for them. This maybe as a result of some of these factors: childhood abuse (Prov. 17:22b), trauma/neglect (2 Sam. 13:19), loneliness (1 Kgs. 19:10), discrimination/oppression (Jam.2:6), poverty (Prov.10:15), loss of a loved one (2Sam.18:33), debt (Prov.22:7), low self-esteem (Num.13:33), heavy workload/severe stress (1Sam.30:4,6), family difficulties/challenges (Gen. 34:30) etc. In some cases, spiritual forces have a direct effect on mental health (1Sam. 16:14; Mk.5:1-5).
To overcome mental ill-health and enjoy emotional wellbeing, believers must understand that:
1. Failure and challenges are part of human life (Prov.24:16; Rom.8:28; Jam.1:2-4).

1. Easter Is The Essence Of Christianity

Christianity is founded on the singular fact and truth that Jesus Christ is the son of God who came to earth to die and to take away the sin of the world.

When you celebrate Easter, be reminded that it is not just a holiday or a ritual.

It the the reason Christianity exists.

If Jesus did not die and was raised from the dead, then Christianity isn’t true.

The apostle Paul states the following in his first letter to the Corinthians:

When Jesus resurrected, the Chief priests told the soldiers to tell everyone that Jesus Christ’ disciple came and stole His body while they slept to turn down the truth about His resurrection.

“Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened. When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we slept.’ And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and make you secure.” So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.”

3. Women Were The First Eye Witnesses

Another interesting fact about Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ is that women were the first to see Jesus after his resurrection.

This is an interesting fact because in the first century, the testimony of women was not accepted in court.

The fact that women were the first ones to see Jesus and tell the hood tidings could further reduce the credibility of the story because women were not prioritized much then.

“Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 4. All Of Jesus’ Disciples Died As Matyrs

With the exception of John, who was exiled to the island of Patmos, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and hung himself, all the other disciples of Jesus Christ died as Matyrs.

They believed in the Gospel so much because they had seen all the amazing works and life of Jesus Christ with their own eyes and were convicted.

If their stories were fabricated, it is quite unlikely that they would allow themselves to be killed for the message they carry.

New Testament scholars D. A. Carson and Douglas Moo in their book “An Introduction to the New Testament, historical evidence” indicate that Apostle Paul’s letter to the Corinthians about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus was written sometime during the early to mid 50s.

Apostle Paul wrote about the resurrection of Jesus and many individuals (over 500) saw Jesus alive after his crucifixion and burial around the actual time the event happened.

This is a strong testimony to the accuracy of Paul’s letter:

“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.”

Many people were living in the Roman Empire during the 50s and were around at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion and they could have challenged Paul’s claim about the resurrection if it were untrue.

1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

OPEN HEAVEN 9 APRIL 2023 MESSAGE

Imagine that you are right at the scene of Jesus’ crucifixion and you are looking at Him on the cross. What do you see? You will be right if you say, “I see a man in pain”. He had been beaten and a crown of thorns had been placed on His head before His crucifixion John 19:1-18).

Someone else may say, “I see a man who is naked”, because according to Matthew 27:35, they even took His garment away from Him. That is the highest level of shame that a man can experience, to be naked in front of multitudes.

Another person could also say, “I see a man being ridiculed”. Matthew 27:39-44 says people that were passing by were saying, “He saved others; himself he cannot save”. Though he had the power to call for angels to rescue Him, He chose to endure the ridicule so that you and I can have a chance of spending eternity in Heaven.

I want you to imagine the president of the most powerful country in the world holding a device in his hand with which he can call on his army anytime, yet he subjected himself to some terrorists who were about to kill him and were mocking him, “You call yourself the President of a nation with weapons of mass destruction, look at you now, you cannot save yourself”. That is similar to what Jesus did just so that you and I! will not perish in hell.

Without any doubt, when you look at Jesus on the cross, you will see a man in sorrow. You cannot be in pain, naked, in shame, ridiculed, and be joyous. Isaiah saw the scene of Jesus’ death many years before and he called Him a man of sorrow (Isaiah 53:3-5).

If you however take a closer look at Jesus as He hung on the cross, you will see a man in love. A man so much in love with you and I that He went through the highest level of physical and emotional pain to save our soul. Thank God He resurrected on the third day and has made eternal life available to all those who surrender their lives to Him.

Beloved, don’t let that sacrifice go to waste. Don’t live your life for the devil, live your life for the One who loves you so much that He gave His life for you.
