I once asked the Almighty God why He allowed me to “waste” twenty-seven years studying mathematics when He knew I would eventually become a pastor. The Lord told me it was simply for the purpose of being able to preach mathematically. It then dawned on me that truly all things work together for good, for the children of of God.

You cannot discover your true identity if you are not in Christ. If you know your true identity, it will help you not to compromise the call of God on your life. As a child of God, you are a light in the midst of darkness, called to shine forth. You are a bridge to the destinies of men, and if you don’t discover your identity, the destinies of those attached to yours may not be discovered.

Beloved, you are not a child of God just to feel good or attend church, but to make a lasting impact in the world and bring others to Christ. Thus, you need to find out what God has empowered you for and do exploits.

OPEN HEAVEN 3 APRIL 2023 MESSAGE

Sequel to the discussion we started yesterday, the side you take determines who you fight against. If you take the side of God, you would be fighting against the devil and his demons. If you disobey the Lord, then you have chosen the side of the devil and would thus be fighting against God. Believe me honestly, you don’t want to fight God. He is too big for you to take sides against and survive.

God has His way of dealing with people who take sides with the devil through disobedience to Him. One way is to withdraw His support from such a fellow like He did in Joshua 7:1-12 when Joshua failed because he had accommodated sin in his camp. Another way is to completely forsake the fellow like He did Samson in Judges 16:18-31. There are many people experiencing either of these today but they don’t realize that it is God fighting them so they keep fighting without realizing that the One they are battling against cannot be defeated.

There was a lawyer who once told me that tithing was just a means for pastors to collect people’s hard-earned money. I tried to explain to him that tithing was a commandment from God but he refused to listen, so I said to him: “May I ask God to prove by Himself through you if tithing is His will or not?” He replied, “Pray the prayer” so I did. This brilliant lawyer lost all the three cases he handled immediately after the incident.

This tarnished his reputation and he lost some business. This man also owned a bakery and suddenly, during a festive period when most bakeries record higher demand and sales, all his bakers decided to resign from their jobs. He offered to double their salaries but they all insisted that they were leaving. Hard as he tried, he couldn’t get new bakers.

After he realized that this must be God fighting him, he came to me and said, “I agree now that tithing is God’s will; please pray for me”. We prayed a simple prayer; he appealed the three cases he had lost and won all of them. His bakers also returned to work with him and everything became good again.

Beloved, disobeying God amounts to fighting Him and woe unto him that fights his Maker (Isaiah 45:9).

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 1 APRIL 2023 MESSAGE

One of the titles of our Lord Jesus Christ is the Truth. John 14:6 says: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”

Many times, people mistakenly take facts for the truth. This can be misleading. Facts deal with material evidence, that is, the things you can assess with your five senses: this is why it is easy for humans to relate to facts.

On the other hand, truth has its evidence in the spiritual realm: it is beyond what we can see. For instance, when Jesus resurrected from the dead and appeared to the disciples, Thomas, who was not present, didn’t believe what he was told until he touched the palms and feet of Jesus.

God’s word is true, and we can only access the blessings in it when we walk by faith and not by sight. For example, if the only time you believed God was with you was when you felt Him move strongly, then you may be wrong because God has promised that He will always be with you (Matthew 28:20).

In relation to mental health, the Bible has a lot to say about the heart, mind, and the condition of the soul. Health is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a complete state of physical, mental, and social well being: it’s not just the absence of disease or infirmity. Mental health is important, as it affects the whole being (Prov. 4:23). This lesson addresses mental issues and possible solution.

TEACHING REVIEW: 1 KINGS 19:1-4
Praying for death is like a suicide attempt as we could see Elijah vehemently asking the Lord to take away his life in this passage (vs 4).
The teacher should identify the reason Elijah slipped into this kind of kind of state of mind (or so depressed).

MENTAL HEALTH DEFINED
A. Teacher should ask the students what they understand by’mental health’.
Mental Health is a state of well-being in which every individual can carry out four roles:
i. Realise his/her potentials
ii. Cope with the normal stress of life
iii. Work productively
iv. Participate meaningfully in the community.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

B. Mental ill-health on the other hand is a psychological disorder affecting one’s mood, thinking, and behaviour. The term mental illness covers a broad range of disorders from mild depression to schizophrenia – a condition that impairs a person’s ability to think, feel, process, and respond to life situations in an appropriate way. Mental illness can distort our view of God, others, and contribute to sinful behaviours.

C. There are some cases of emotional issues in the Bible such as:
i. depression (1Kgs. 19:1-4; Jonah 4:3),
ii. loneliness (1Kgs. 19:10),
iii. hopelessness (1kgs. 17:9-12),
iv. suicide (Matt. 27:5),
v. rejection (1Sam. 18:7-8),
vi. insanity (Mk. 5:1-5), etc.

CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS
A. God’s desire for believers is to live a peaceful and fulfilled life (Gen. 25:8; Jer. 29:11). However, there are some believers who are not operating in this realm of God’s intention for them. This may be as a result of some of these factors:
i. childhood abuse (Prov. 17:22b),
ii. trauma/neglect (2Sam. 13:19),
iii. loneliness (1Kgs. 19:10),
iv. discrimination/oppression (Jam. 2:6),
v. poverty (Prov. 10:15),
vi. loss of loved one (2Sam. 18:33),
vii. debt (Prov. 22:7),
viii. low self-esteem (Num.13:33),
ix. heavy workload/severe stress (1Sam. 30:4,6),
x. family challenges (Gen. 34:30), etc.
In some cases, spiritual forces have a direct effect on mental health (1Sam. 16:14; Mk. 5:1-5).

B. To overcome mental ill-health and enjoy emotional well-being, believer’s must understand that:
i. Failure and challenges are part of human life (Prov. 24:16; Rom. 8:28; Jam. 1:2-4).
ii. It is important to invest in good social networks and godly relationships (2Sam. 9:1).
iii. Loneliness and isolation which are risk factors for depression and suicidal behaviour should be avoided (Prov. 17:22).
iv. Good sleep helps the brain restore itself (Lk. 8:23a).
v. Regular exercise expunges toxic chemicals from the body (1Tim 4:8).
vi. Drug abuse (Self-medication) is not an option for good health.
vii. Healthy thoughts are necessary always (Phil. 4:8).

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Being in Christ means having a living relationship with Christ.
To have a living relationship with him, the following most be fulfilled:
1. We must believe and confess him as our personal lord and savior.

2. It must be no longer our WILL but is WILL be done in our lives.

Many benefits accrued to believers who are in Christ but to mention a few:
1. John 3:16 enteral life is one of the promises of God to whosoever believes in him.

c. 1John 1:8-9 ” unforgiveness for forgiveness.
d. Becoming like him.

3. 1 Cor. 10: 31- our life’s will glorify God at all times.

4. John 1:12- He gives us the power to be his son’s and to live for him.

5. The Holy Spirit will become our partner.

6. We are loved by God.

7. Unspeakable joy.

SUMMARY: Members should see God’s provision of redemption as blessing to man kind.

CONCLUSION: Anyone who is not in Christ will be in crisis, but we enjoy the benefit of sonship when we are in Christ
