How do you contribute to your church as a Christian?

The church of Christ is His body and He loves her very much. Every believer is a part of this body and is expected to do same.

Giving money to your church is only one of the many ways to contribute to the church of Christ.

Let us consider the other ways.

6 ways to contribute to your church

1) Be Present

The first way to contribute to your church is to be present in church. God wants His house to be filled with His people and for even more people to come to Him.

If you are a believer who does not attend church often, the first thing you should take out of this post is to become consistent in church.

“Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬-‭3‬

2) Evangelize

Once you are a firm and consistent member of church, your next assignment is to bring more men to God.

Jesus gave us the assignment to make disciples of all men and bring them to Him. You contribute to God’s kingdom and your church by evangelizing to people about Jesus and bringing them to church.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭19‬ ‭

3) Become a worker

It is not enough to remain member in church. It is important to become a worker in one area or another by serving God in any unit in church.

The church needs hands to keep things running. Find a department or service unit in church to join and offer your service to God.

“So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭23‬:‭25‬ ‭

4) Meet A Need

Just like any organization, your church will sometimes have one need or the other. It may be a financial need, human need, need for time, etc.

When a need arises in your church, do you rise up to it to the best of your ability?

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭

5) Contribute Financially

A great way to contribute to your church is contributing financially. Everything purchased and every project carried out in church is financed by members or your pastor.

It is a delightful thing to be part of the people who finance projects in God’s house.

“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭

6) Pray for Your Church

Praying for the church has tremendous impact and effect. When you are unavailable or unable to contribute to your church, commit to praying for your church.

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us.” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭23‬-‭25‬

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.””

We have been given the great commission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ as believers.

We preach Christ through our words and through actions.

It is important to know how to lead people to Jesus so that every time you have the privilege to do so, you are not lacking in knowledge or confused on what to do.

From scripture, we see that the most conventional way to lead people to Christ is by first preaching the gospel of salvation to them.

Make them understand who Jesus is, and why they need Him.

Preach God’s word from scriptures to them, making them understand that a life outside of Christ is not worth it and will not glorify God.

Next, explain the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and how it affects them.

Your job is to preach as led by the holy Spirit, it is not your job to convince or convict them. That is the job of the Holy Spirit.

Once you have done all of this and they respond with willingness to surrender their lives to Jesus, your next assignment which is the main way people are translated into God’s Kingdom is to tell them to believe in their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord.

“that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Remember, Jesus Christ and the whole of Heaven rejoices when one sinner comes to repentance (Luke 15:7).

However, we must do the job of preaching before people can receive Jesus.

“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

OPEN HEAVEN 7 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

A storm is a problem so big and weighty that no one can single-handedly resolve it. However, storms can be stilled, and from my study of the Scriptures, such an occurrence is the result of a collaboration between God and man.

When a storm was brewing at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, there was a need for the servants to collaborate with Jesus in order to still it John 2:1-10). If they had argued about pouring water inside a pot and taking a cup of it to the Chairman of the wedding, the storm would not have been stilled.

When the prophet’s widow in (2 Kings 4:1-7) was hit with a storm that would have taken away her sons, she was told to borrow many empty vessels into which she was to pour her little oil. That instruction did not make any sense but she did her part by obeying and God did His by multiplying the oil. If you can collaborate with God, He can help you still any storm.

Some years ago while preparing for a programme in the North, I was told how the sandstorms there could get so bad that there would be no visibility at all. I said, “I see”. That evening, while holding the programme outside as the crowd was too much for the little Church, a sandstorm suddenly started and people began to panic. I then heard my Father say to me, “Stretch your hand and say, ‘Peace’. I did just that and immediately, the wind stopped, the sand fell back to the ground and we had a wonderful programme.

In Mark 4:35-41, the Lord and His disciples were travelling in a boat when a storm arose. The Lord got up and stilled the storm, but then asked, “Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?”

Is there a storm in your life that has threatened you for long? The question for you is, “How is it that you have no faith?” Don’t you know that, if you would only collaborate with God, you would still that storm? Go to God in prayer and stay in His presence until He tells you what to do to still that storm. A man or woman of God should not be frightened by a storm. He or she should simply speak peace to the storm in the name of Jesus and it would become still.

What you wear matters. While it is true that God says in (1 Samuel 16:7) that He looks at the heart, it is also true that what is inside you can reflect on the outside. The way harlots would dress should be different from the way a child of God does. In order to buttress this point to my Bible College students one day, I bought two oranges of the same size – one yellow, the other green. I stood before the class and asked them to indicate which they would prefer to have. They all chose the yellow one, because, according to them, it was the ripe one and so would be sweet. I asked how they knew and they replied: “The outside shows”. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

What you wear really matters. In Matthew 22:1-14, a king went through the crowd of guests at his son’s wedding and saw a man who wasn’t wearing clothes suitable for a wedding and so commanded that the man be kicked out.

I was talking to a relative who was always dressing like people of the world. I said, “You belong to a special family. The enemies are looking at us; if they want to attack, they will look for someone who is among us but different from us. You’re the only one standing out. If they decide to attack, they will find it easy to pick on you”.That changed the person’s mind completely.

Finally, you remember the story of Blind Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52. When he was told that Jesus was calling on him, the first thing he did was throw away his garment. He was saying, in essence, “I will never dress like a beggar again; I’m not going to beg again, I’m not going to be in sorrow again, I’m not going to be in darkness again. “When you give your life to Jesus Christ, there should be a change of garments.

In Mark 5:25-34, the woman with the issue of blood said, “I just want to touch the hem of his garment”. The clothes Jesus was wearing was the conduit for the anointing that healed her. Acts 19:11-12 tells us that handkerchiefs and aprons were taken from the body of Paul to effect healing and deliverance. Your dressing is important and should glorify God always.

The parable of the sower tells a story with interesting characters. A man went out to sow some seeds; some fell on the pathway, some among thorns, some on the rock, and others made it to the good soil. The man represents God and the seed is the gospel. The rock, thorns and birds that altered the growth of the seeds represent the cares of life, distractions that choke up the word of God and the devil who pecks on the word of God in people’s hearts to make them lose faith in it.

Many are chasing frivolities and the vanities of life at the expense of their faith in God which should be nurtured by the word of God. This story shows that once the seed of the word of God is sown, only time will show howa fellow’s faith will grow and develop. Is your heart properly positioned for the word of God to be sown and grow in it? Beloved, be attentive to every spoken or written word of God and ask for the grace to obey them.

The parable of the rich fool explains a lot about one’s relationship with money and how it impacts one’s relationship with God. In this parable, a man’s farmland produced an abundance of crops more than he could store.

His solution was to tear down his barns and build bigger ones to hold the surplus so he could sit back and enjoy life. God called him a fool and demanded his soul that night, rendering his selfish ambitions useless.

This parable is a stern warning for greedy and stingy people to repent of their ways before God. A person who has no regard for God or other people and has a mindset of “me, myself and I”, will ultimately be a victim of God’s judgment.

Beloved, if you presently find yourself conforming to worldly standards and desires, then you’re sliding away from.Christ. I implore you to shun lustful desires for worldly things and rather, be a channel of blessing unto others.

Yesterday, we started examining some lessons from the parable of the talents. Today, we will go a bit further. Another nugget from this parable is that your faithfulness over little is required before more is given to you

The servants in our Bible reading were rewarded with more responsibilities after they had proved that they could manage what they were initially given. Furthermore, from this parable, we see that the more you receive, the more will be required of you. The servants were given those number of talents because that was what they could handle.

Are you making the most of the resources at your disposal? Maximize all the physical resources and time at your disposal now because you’ll be judged on the last day based on them. My dear, being desirous of a great future is good, but increase your capacity for more responsibilities ahead.
