OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 26 FEBRUARY 2023 MEMORIZE: And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 26 FEBRUARY 2023 BIBLE READING 2 CORINTHIANS 5:18-21

[18]And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

[19]To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

[20]Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

[21]For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 26 FEBRUARY 2023 MESSAGE

Reconciliation means the restoration of relationships. For reconciliation to take place, there must have been a breakdown in a relationship. Jesus is a vessel of reconciliation between the world and God. You can also be a vessel of reconciliation by settling disputes among friends and family members.

As children of God, we cannot afford to be in a place where there is chaos. We are supposed to represent God wherever we are and bring peace. However, you have to be reconciled with God before you can be a vessel of reconciliation.

A vessel of reconciliation would settle disputes, not sow discord amongst friends and brethren in the church. You should be able to reconcile sinners or backsliders to God, the same way you reconcile friends who havea dispute.

For example, if your mother and one of your siblings have a misunderstanding, as a child of God, settle the misunderstanding and don’t take sides with one party: that makes you a vessel of reconciliation.

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER’S MANUAL 26 FEBRUARY 2023

DATE: SUNDAY
LESSON: 26

TOPIC: SECOND INTERACTIVE SECTION (SUMMARY OF LESSONS 14-25)

LESSON: 14

TOPIC: THE MYSTERY OF FAITH

MEMORY VERSE: “Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience”. –Timothy 3:9

BIBLE PASSAGE: HEBREWS 11:3-11

INTRODUCTION
The ultimate Goal of the Christian life is to please God. Pleasing God Is accomplished by Faith (Heb. 11:6). Faith is the foundation of the Christian life and the principle that bring us to Jesus Christ. An understanding of what faith is will help us grow in our walk with the Lord.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH
2. STAGES OF FAITH

A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH

Faith can be described as:

A. The currency of believers (Mark. 9:23). For instance:

i. when God created the Heavens and the Earth in Gen. 1:1, as well as everything we see (the stars, moon, and light), we understand by faith (Heb. 11:3).

ii. Faith works where we cannot see (Heb. 11:1): It is the substance of things hoped for.

iii. Faith is predicting your future by speaking and confessing it (Mark 11:24).

iv. Faith is the act of declaring and decreeing (Mark 11:23; Job 22:28): It is the vehicle that moves God (Matt. 8:9-10; 15:25-28).

B. The pillar for salvation (Eph. 2:8; Rom. 10:9-10): pursuing a Christ-like life is a demonstration of faith (Heb. 10:38-39).

STAGES OF FAITH

Faith can be explained in three stages:

A. The faith that secures our salvation and make us followers of Jesus.

i. This is the fundamental theology and the core of what we believe as Christians (Rom. 10:4; Jh. 14:6; Eph. 1:13).

ii. It is what makes us believers (Jh. 1:12).

iii. This faith is what separates Christianity from other religions (1Jh. 4:1-3).

B. The faith that is an act, art and the science of believing.

i. It is the practical aspect of our profession as Christians.

ii. It makes us hold on the word or promise of God against all odds (Rom. 4:18-21).

C. The lifestyle of faith.

i. This is when faith has become our lifestyle, we live it.

ii. At this stage, it is impossible not to believe in God. We do not stagger at what we see or experience (Dan. 3:16-18; Acts 21:11-13).

SUMMARY
Believers must strive to understand and grow in faith as this is fundamental to our Christian life.

CONCLUSION
Faith is both a gift and fruit of the holy spirit (1Cor. 12:9; Gal. 5:22). It is the fuel that keeps is going as believers.

*LESSON FIFTEEN*

TOPIC: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF VOICES

MEMORY VERSE: “There are, it may be, so kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.”-1Corinthains 14:10

BIBLE PASSAGE: PSALM 29:3-9

INTRODUCTION
We live in a world of voices (1Corinthians 14:10): demonic voices, the voice of friends, voice of enemies, the voice of those who love us, the voice of those who hate us the voice of God, etc. Also different voices come with different impacts. (1Corinthians 4:10b says there is not one of those voices without meaning. It is therefore experience for all believers to learn about the impact of the voices they listen to and the value of listening to God.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. THE IMPACTS OF VOICES
2. THE VALUE OF LISTENING TO GOD

THE IMPACTS OF VOICES

Question 1:
Are there Bible characters who listened to people or voices?

Answer:
Yes, there are people who took advices or instructions from other people in the bible and this had impact on their lives. The voice you listen to affects your outcome. For instance;
i. Eve listened to the serpent (Genesis 3:1-7),

ii. Samson listened to Delilah (Judges 16:6,17)

iii. Amnon listened to Jonadab (2Samuel 13:4-14)

iv. Saul of tarsus listened to Jesus Christ (Acts 9:1-6).

v. The young prophet listened to the old prophet (1Kings 13:11-24)

Question 2
What are the things that can be affected by the voice you listen to?

Answer: Who you give your ears to can affect:

i. Your mindset and invariably your thoughts pattern (Proverbs 23:7).

ii. Your choices and decision-making (1Kings 12:6-14).

iii. Your emotion, feelings and psychological well-being (Numbers 13:32-33, 14:1-4).

iv. Your lifestyle and the steps you take (John 4:25-29).

v. Your life’s outcome and fulfillment of destiny (Acts 26:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5).

THE VALUE OF LISTENING TO GOD

Question 1:
What are the blessings of listening to God. Some of these are:

Answer: There are innumerable blessings in listening to God. Some of these are:

i. A fulfilling life and destiny. The most important choices you will have to make in life are choices that will require God to assist you to have a fulfilled life. For example, the choice of who to marry (Proverbs 18:22), the business/career to pursue (Jeremiah 1:5), the place to live or settle (Genesis 26:1-3), etc. These are decisions that will require God’s assistant as you put your trust in Him (Psalm 37:4; Proverbs 3:5-6).

ii. The fulfillment of life’s purpose and vision. This is the reason for living as a whole. It seemed God was telling Jeremiah ‘I planned for you, I prepare for you, and organised what you should do with your life before you came’ (Jeremiah 1:5) in *Acts 26:12-19’* Paul narrates the details of his own assignment in life.

iii. Supernatural supply or divine provision. As long as God is the one leading, you do not need to struggle for pasture (Psalm 23:1-2). God knows where your supply is, and He will direct you to the right place (1Kings 17:2-6; Matthew 17:27; Luke 5:4-7)

iv. Supernatural power and authority. The voice of God comes with power (Psalms 29:4). When God speaks to you, power rushes into you (Ezekiel 37:1-10). There is a boldness that is backed up by the voice of the Lord (Exodus 3:1-10). You can face the future without fear (Genesis 12:1-4).

v. Victory over enemy’s forces including afflictions, battles, or conspiracies (Isaiah 30:31; 1Samuel 30:1-8, 18-19; 2Samuel 5:17-21). Many people are victims of battles, only because they do not know what God is saying and what they ought to do.

vi. Escape from danger and disaster (Proverbs 22:3; 1Samuel 23:7-13)

vii. The importation of divine wisdom. When God guides, you cannot be foolish (Proverbs 1:5). If you are hearing from God, your wisdom is not contestable (Luke 21:15). You need divine wisdom to handle the affairs of Life successfully (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

viii. Existence in peace and tranquility. One of the top secret of Peace is the voice of God (Psalm 85:8). In *Psalm 23:2* ‘….beside still waters’. talks about peace, not ‘troubled Waters’ When you are disconnected from what God is saying you become troubled and worried about everything.

SUMMARY
There are many voices in the world with various significations. Listen to God always, for a fulfilled life.

CONCLUSION
The voice you listen to determines your direction and destination. To end well, listen to the voice of God.

*LESSON: SIXTEEN*

TOPIC: DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE (PT 1)

MEMORY VERSE: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye”. – Psalm 32:8

BIBLE PASSAGE: PSALM 37:3-7

INTRODUCTION
Divine leading is about being directed by God. Being led or guided by God is a necessary key for Christians. It is the only way to fulfill God’s will and every of our decision-making processes (2Kings 3:11). Therefore, we need to learn the avenues through which God leads and guides His people. Moreover, in this dispensation, the leading and guidance of the holy spirit are both inevitable and indispensable.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. AVENUE FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE
2. RECOGNISING DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

AVENUE FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

It is important to note that God, in his sovereignty, can adopt any or several means to lead and guide those who put their trust in him. Here are some of them:

A. Through the word of God (1Samuel 3:21; Hebrews 1:1-2).

B. Through a witness of the spirit (Romans 8:14; 16). The witness of the spirits can also come in form of god’s peace the passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).

C. Through the voice of the spirit. This is beyond just a witness; it is hearing.

i. This hearing can be inward (which means no one else, around you, hear it). The Bible calls it is ‘still small voice’- like the sound of a gentle whisper (1Kings 19:12).

ii. Sometimes the voice comes in the midst of a godly thought (Acts 10:19)

iii. The voice of the spirit can also be outward, in which case you will look around as if you heard or somebody else heard what you are hearing (1Sam. 3:3-5; Acts 9:3-5)

D. Though revelations – dreams, visions, trance (Joel 2:28).

i. Dreams can come from your thoughts (Eccl. 5:3) or the devil – scary and tormenting (nightmares) or from God – insightful, instructional, or revelational (Job 33:14; 17). Dreams happen when you are fully asleep (day or night).

ii. Vision can come when you are awake and see something like a still or motion picture (day or night) – *Daniel 2:19.*

iii. Trance is like the average between a dream and a vision (you are half awake, half asleep) when the physical senses seem to be suspended (Acts 10:10-11).

E. Through ordain situation or circumstances (Proverbs 24:30-34; Jeremiah 18:1-6). God can take you by all through a happening to give you a clear direction for Life.

F. Through prophetic utterances and confirmations (Hosea 12:10). However, believers are cautioned against living at the mercy of prophecy (1John 4:1)

G. Through diverse means as deemed fit by God (Hosea 12:10)

RECOGNISING DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

A. The Holy Spirit takes on the role of a guide and counselor, leading us in the way we should go and revealing God’s truths (Luke 12:12).

B. One of the most important ways to recognize the Holy Spirit guidance is to be familiar with God’s word.

i. The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom about how we should live (2Timothy 3:16), and believers are to search the scriptures (John 5:39), meditate on them, and commit them to memory (Psalm 1:2).

ii. The word is the “sword of the spirit” (Ephesians 6:17), and the spirit will use it to speak to us (John 16:12-14) to review God’s will for our lives. He will also bring specific scriptures to mind at times when we need them the most (John 14:26).

C. We must always test our inclinations against the scriptures. This is because the Holy Spirit will never push us to do anything contrary to God’s word (1Corinthians 14:33). If it is conflicts with the Bible then it is not from the Holy Spirit and should be ignored.

i. It is also necessary for us to be in continual prayer with the father (1Thessalonians 5:17)

ii. Not only does this keep our hearts and minds open to the Holy Spirit’s leading but it’s also allows the spirit to speak on our behalf (Romans 8:26-27).

SUMMARY
As much as it is important for believers to be lead by God, knowing how he lead and how to recognise his leading is much more important.

CONCLUSION
If you are not lead and guided by God, you will wonder and get lost in the wilderness of life. Let God lead you.

BIBLE PASSAGE: HABAKKUK 2:1-2

INTRODUCTION
The Bible is full of records of believers who yielded to the leading and guidance of God. While it may seem difficult for some people in our contemporary world to allow God in their pursuit, Christians that meet the requirements will walk in the path of God.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

The following are some instances of those who were led and guided by God in the bible:

i. *Genesis 12:1-4*, God ordered Abram out of his country to a promised land and he obeyed.

Some of the requirements for divine leading and guidance are listed below:

i. Delights in the Lord Psalm 37:4-5; 1Corinthians 2:9).

iii. The willingness to be led (Romans 8:14; Psalm 23:1-2).

iv. The attitude of meekness (Psalm 25 9) : meekness equals being teachable.

v. The attitude of enquiry (Jeremiah 6:16; Matthew 7:7)

vi. The attitude of hearing and listening – activate the listening mode (Psalm 85:8; Habakkuk 2:1-2).

vii. The attitude of patience (Isaiah 28:16). Do not force yourself to hear what God is not saying

viii. Soak in and meditate on the word of God (Psalm 119:105).

ix. Pay attention to godly leaders over you (1Samuel 3:9).

x. Obey previous instructions (Mark 4:24b). If you have not harkened to previous instructions, you may not hear the next move of God.

SUMMARY
The scripture is full of people who were practically guilded by God. You too can be led by God today.

CONCLUSION
If God is the One leading you, you can never miss the mark. Ask for the grace to understand the mind of God and be guided in the right direction. If you think you have gone far in the wrong direction and refuse to turn back, you will only end in the wrong destination.

TOPIC: HONOUR MEN

MEMORY VERSE: “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king”. – 1Peter 2:17

BIBLE PASSAGE: ROMANS 13:7-8

INTRODUCTION
In our previous lesson, we learnt why and how we should honour God. We also learnt the meaning of honour which is to bestow value upon someone or highly esteem another. The Bible exhort us to give honour to whom it is due (Romans 13:7). In this lesson, we shall attempt to categorize those who deserve honour and how we can attain honour as well.

LESSON OUTLINES

BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 22:39-46

INTRODUCTION
‘Plunged-in knees’ simply refers to a life of constant prayers. A consistent and persistent prayer life was a regular practice and more of a lifestyle by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Constant prayer is a necessity for a close walk with God.

*LESSON: TWENTY-TWO*

TOPIC: BIBLICAL FAST

MEMORY VERSE: “And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:” – Daniel 9:3

BIBLE PASSAGE: DANIEL 10:2-3

INTRODUCTION
Fasting in the Bible, is total abstinence from pleasure giving activities for a set time to devote oneself to seeking God. While there are many ways believers could fast, too often, the focus is on abstinence from food in this lesson, we shall examined different types of Biblical fast, basic cautious and reasons for fasting.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE
2. REASONS OF BASIC CAUTIOUS

TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE

The teacher should first ask the students to mention the type of fast known to them and then highlight the types as follows:
a. Food fast
b. Sex fast
c. Pleasure fast

A. *Food fast-* This is abstinence from food/drinks. It may take the form of:

i. *Regular fast:* This is done by abstaining from all foods, both solid and liquid (2Chronicles 20:3). The fast is usually broken daily or periodically (Jeremiah 36:6)

ii. *Partial fast:* This is inspired by prophet Daniel. All meat and animal products are disallowed. The Daniel fast includes vegetables, Legumes, whole grains, seeds, and water. This guidelines are based on Daniel’s request of “nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink” (Daniel 1:8-14)

iii. *Absolute or full fast:* Where no food or water is consumed (Esther 4:16; Acts 27:33). For instance, Moses, Elijah and the Lord Jesus Christ did a 40 days absolute fast (Deuteronomy 9:9; 1Kings 19:7-8; Luke 4:2).

B. *Sex fast:* The Bible also refer to ‘sexual fast’ (Exodus 19:15). A married couple can mutually agreed to abstain from sex for a short period to devote themselves to prayers (1Corinthians 7:5)

C. *’Pleasure’ fast* – Another way is to confine or isolate oneself from people and pleasurable thing to a place as a means of worship, studying the Bible and praying to God for a purpose (Luke 2:36-37; 5:16). Time alone with God require discipline.

REASONS OF BASIC CAUTIOUS

A. Fasting is far more about focusing on God than abstinence from food or other things that gives pleasure (Zachariah 7:5).

B. People fast for various reasons. Some for:

i. Spiritual strength (Isaiah 40:30-31),

ii. Supernatural revelation, wisdom and understanding (Ezra 8:21; Daniel 9:22),

Iii. Supernatural breakthrough (Zachariah 8:19)

iv. Repentance from sinful ways (Joel 2:12-13; Daniel 9:3-5),

v. Spiritual hunger and demonstration of love for God’s people and burden for souls (2Corinthians 11:27-28; Matthew 5:6) and

vi. Sharing with the poor and destruction of wicked works among others (Isaiah 58:6-7 )

C. Believers should exercise some caution while fasting:

i. Fasting should be limited to a set time and for a clear purpose (1Corinthians 7:5; Esther 4:16).

ii. It is neither intended to punish the body not a dieting methods (Isaiah 58:5) but true redirect attention to God.

iii. It is a period to give up self-indulgent activities for a deeper fellowship with God (Matthew 4:1-2).

iv. Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetic, for example). However, everyone can temporarily give up something to draw closer to God (Exodus 19:15).

v. Biblical fast is to be done in a spirit of humility and joyfulness (Matthew 6:16-18).

vi. It should not be to manipulate or do evil (Isaiah 54:4a; Acts 23:21).

vii. In breaking ‘absolute and long fast,’ warm liquids (not carbonated drinks) are advised and should be taken in bits.

SUMMARY
There are numbers of ways and reasons believers can fast and there are cautions to exercise to do it biblically.

CONCLUSION
Ask God for wisdom (James 1:5) as regards how and for how long and what purpose He wants you to fast.

*LESSON: TWENTY THREE*

TOPIC: THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (PT 1)

MEMORY VERSE: “(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth)”. –Ephesians 5:9

BIBLE PASSAGE: GALATIANS 5:22-23

INTRODUCTION
One of the reasons Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit is to help us learn how to be more godly (John 16:12-15). The Holy Spirit will convict us of our sin (John 16:8) and guide us in choosing well when faced with temptations, thus producing godly characteristics within us (Ephesians 3:16; John 16:13). This is what the Bible describes as the ‘fruit of the Spirit.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. WHY “FRUIT?”
2. THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT

WHY “FRUIT?”

A. The Bible uses a lot of agricultural metaphors because they were easily understood by the highly agricultural culture of the time.

B. The “fruit of the Spirit” refers to the “results” we should see in our lives after receiving the Holy Spirit and working on our hearts over time (Romans 8:9;12:1-2).

C. The Apostle Paul gives us the component of the ‘fruit’ as “……love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self control…… Galatians 5:21-22.

D. The ‘fruit’ metaphor helps us see our faith as a tree with branches that may or may not produce fruit, depending on how well we take care of the tree itself.

i. If we give the tree nourishment (God’s word) -1Peter 1:23;2:2, then it will grow bigger.

ii. If we clear away weeds and insects (sinful tendencies) -Ephesians 4:22-31; Colossians 3:8-10, then keep the tree healthy. If we consult the ‘professional’ Gardener (God) -1Chronicles 16:11- then we will ensure we are on the right track.

THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT

A. If you are a Christian, and you are not exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit in your life:

i. At best, you will experience stagnation-no growth (James 2:14-26).

ii. At worst, the result of “bad fruit” is death (Romans 6:20-23; Proverbs 14:12).

B. Note that Galatians 5:22 start with the word “But.” The Apostle Paul tells us that the opposite of these spiritual fruit.

C. Let us take a look at the verses just before the fruit list: “Now the work of the flesh are manifest, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred , variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: if the which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” -Galatians 5:19-21. This is a list of things that someone who does not have the Holy Spirit’s influence would have problems with.

SUMMARY
The faith of a believer (one filled with the Holy Spirit) is like a tree with branches that if well cared for will produce fruit but if neglected has grave consequences.

CONCLUSION
On one hand, our sinfulness produces rotted, poisoned fruit, which reflects our sinful nature and hurt us in the end. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit produces beautiful, nourishing fruit that reflects God’s nature and will ultimately benefit our lives.

*LESSON: TWENTY-FOUR*

TOPIC: THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (PT 2).

MEMORY VERSE: “And the fruit of rightousness is sown in peace of them make peace”. — James 3:18

BIBLE PASSAGE: GALATIANS 5:16-18

INTRODUCTION
The life of the Christian is a constant battle between our sinful nature and our new nature in Christ (Gal. 5:17). Unfortunately, just because we have accepted Christ does not mean we are automatically immune to sinful temptations (Rom. 7:14-25). Sometimes, it may feel like we are trapped in a desire to reach for the sinful thing rather than the godly things. This dies not always have to be the case. We can overcome the flesh.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. CHOOSE TO BEAR THE FRUIT
2. WORK AT IT

CHOOSE TO BEAR THE FRUIT

A. Now that we are in Christ, we have the power to conquer the sinful desire of the flesh (2Cor. 5:17; Rom. 8:37).

B. The very presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts means we can now choose godliness over sinfulness (Philip. 1:22).

i. The choice is 100% OURS (Deut. 30:19).

ii. We are no longer a slave to our sinful nature (Rom. 6:14, 18).

iii. We can choose love over hate, patience over hostile frustration, faithfulness over disloyalty, self-control over lustful desires…etc.

C.This is the beauty of having the Holy Spirit-He gives us the POWER to fight (Philip. 2:13; 4:13).

D. All we must do to tap into that power is to practice obedience to God’s word and his direction (John. 15:4, 10, 14; Col. 3:16; Ps. 1:2-3).

WORK AT IT

A. Some Christians have asked if it is possible to produce all the components to the fruit of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This seems like a lot to work on.

i. We should remember that God will not give us a load we cannot bear (Matt. 11:29-30).

ii. The ‘yoke’ of bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not just possible, it is mandatory (Luke 1:37; Matt. 5:48).

B. However, since the enemies of our Salvation – the devil and the flesh – will not give up easily on us, we are bound to face the temptation of yielding to occasionally (1Peter 5:8-10)

C. We must continue to:

i. work at attaining perfection (Philip. 2:12),

ii. surrender totally to the dictates of the Holy spirit and resist the devil (James 4:7).

iii. Make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14).

iv. Let us keep working at bearing all the components of the fruit of the spirit; it is possible (Philip. 4:13).

v. Daily, take steps to nurture our relationship with Jesus so that we can grow to look more like him in his manner, attitude and actions (HEB. 12:2; Philip 2:5).

SUMMARY
Every believer must choose to bear the fruit of the spirit and work at attaining perfection.

CONCLUSION
Though we may struggle and fail, we will surely conquer the flesh and bear the fruit of the holy spirit. We ought to daily strive for, work for, and yearn for the fruit of the spirit

*LESSON: TWENTY-FIVE*

TOPIC: THE POWER OF CHOICE

MEMORY VERSE: “Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good”. — Job 34:4

BIBLE PASSAGE: GENESIS 13:8-13

INTRODUCTION
Simply put, choice is the act of picking between two or more possibilities. The power of choice is the strong will to make a decision in the mist of several options. While it is generally opined that man is a choice being, scriptures clearly established that God has given man the power to choose (Joshua 24:15). However, we live with the consequences of the choices we make whether good or bad. The onus therefore, lies on us to make the right choices which is in turn determine the course of our lives.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. COMMON CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES
2. FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE CHOICES

COMMON CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES

A. There are several choices we make in life with their attendance consequences. For instance:

i.The choices we make about food and exercise influence our physical health (Proverbs 25:16).

ii. The choices we make about our academic pursuits often affect our career and occupations.

iii. The choices we make in reaction to life’s adversities affect our psychological well-being (Proverbs 24:10).

B. Other major choices we make in life include:

1. The choice of where to live/settle may determine the peace or discomfort, blessing or trouble we will have (Genesis 13:8-11; 19:13; 26:1-2, 12-13)

2. The choice of who we marry will determine the bliss we enjoy or the blows we endure (Proverbs 18:22; 31:28; Proverbs 21:19; 1Kings 11:4).

3. The choice of the friends we keep will determine how far we’ll go and the quality of life we live (Proverbs 13:20; 18:24; 2Samuel 13:5; 10:14, 28-29)

4. The choices we make to be different will determine whether or not we will stand out from the crowd (Daniel 1:8,19; Hebrews 11:24-26).

5. The choice we make whether to serve God or not will determine the eternal reward we will get (Joshua 24:15; Revelation 22:11-12).

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE CHOICES

Many factors influence the choices we make in life. We need to crave the right knowledge in order to be well-informed (Proverbs 18:15).

i. Self-control will help guide our choices and prevent us from making a rational decisions (James 1:19; 1Samuel 25:10).

ii. We must make good plans and be guided by good vision before we make a choice (Ruth 3:1-4; Proverbs 16:3,9).

iii. More importantly, prayers will enable us to key into the mind of God (1Samuel 30:7-8; Psalm 37:5,23)

iv. Conversely, pride, hypocrisy, doubt, and negative thoughts among others, will hinder us from making the right choices (Proverbs 11:2; Psalm 10:4; Isaiah 32:6; James 1:8).

v. We must strive to always have the correct mind frame all the time (Proverbs 4:23).

CONCLUSION
If we have made the wrong choice in the past, it is time to forgive ourselves and move on with life as we make necessary corrections to avoid any repetition of such.

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENT’S MANUAL 26 FEBRUARY 2023

LESSON: 26
DATE: SUNDAY

TOPIC: SECOND INTERACTIVE SECTION (SUMMARY OF LESSONS 14-25)

LESSON: 14

TOPIC: THE MYSTERY OF FAITH

MEMORY VERSE: “Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience”. –Timothy 3:9

BIBLE PASSAGE: HEBREWS 11:3-11

INTRODUCTION
The ultimate Goal of the Christian life is to please God. Pleasing God Is accomplished by Faith (Heb. 11:6). Faith is the foundation of the Christian life and the principle that bring us to Jesus Christ. An understanding of what faith is will help us grow in our walk with the Lord.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH
2. STAGES OF FAITH

A DESCRIPTION OF FAITH

Faith is a currency of believers (Mark. 9:23): when God created the Heavens and the Earth in Gen. 1:1, as well as everything we see (the stars, moon, and light), we understand by faith (Heb. 11:3). Faith works where we cannot see (Heb. 11:1): It is the substance of things hoped for. Faith is predicting your future by speaking and confessing it (Mark 11:24). Faith is the act of declaring and decreeing (Mark 11:23; Job 22:28): It is the vehicle that moves God (Matt. 8:9-10; 15:25-28). Faith is the pillar for salvation (Eph. 2:8; Rom. 10:9-10): pursuing a Christ-like life is a demonstration of faith (Heb. 10:38-39).

STAGES OF FAITH

1. The faith that secures our salvation and make us followers of Jesus. This is the fundamental theology and the core of what we believe as Christians (Rom. 10:4; Jh. 14:6; Eph. 1:13). It is what makes us believers (Jh. 1:12). It is what separates Christianity from other religions (1Jh. 4:1-3).

2. The faith that is an act, art and the science of believing. It is the practical aspect of our profession as Christians that makes us hold on the word or promise of God against all odds (Rom. 4:18-21).

3. The lifestyle of faith. This is when faith has become our lifestyle, we live it. At this stage, it is impossible not to believe in God. We do not stagger at what we see or experience (Dan. 3:16-18; Acts 21:11-13).

CONCLUSION
Faith is both a gift and fruit of the holy spirit (1Cor. 12:9; Gal. 5:22). It is the fuel that keeps is going as believers.

*LESSON FIFTEEN*

TOPIC: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF VOICES

MEMORY VERSE: “There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification”. –1Corinthians 14:10.

The voice you listen to affects your outcome. For instance,
Eve listened to the serpent (Genesis 3:1-7),
Samson listened to Delilah (Judges 16:6,17)
Amnon listened to Jonadab (2Samuel 13:4-14)
Saul of tarsus listened to Jesus Christ (Acts 9:1-6). Therefore, who you give your ears to effects:

1. Your mindset and invariably your thoughts pattern (Proverbs 23:7).

2. Your choices and decision-making (1Kings 12:6-14).

3. Your emotion, feelings and psychological well-being (Numbers 13:32-33, 14:1-4).

4. Your lifestyle and the steps you take (John 4:25-29).

5. Your life’s outcome and fulfillment of destiny (Acts 26:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5).

THE VALUE OF LISTENING TO GOD

3. Supernatural supply or divine provision. As long as God is the one leading, you do not need to struggle for pasture (Psalm 23:1-2). God knows where your supply is, and He will direct you to the right place (1Kings 17:2-6; Matthew 17:27; Luke 5:4-7)

5. Victory over enemy’s forces including afflictions, battles, or conspiracies (Isaiah 30:31; 1Samuel 30:1-8, 18-19; 2Samuel 5:17-21). Many people are victims of battles, only because they do not know what God is saying and what they ought to do.

6. Escape from danger and disaster (Proverbs 22:3; 1Samuel 23:7-13)

7. The importation of divine wisdom. When God guides, you cannot be foolish (Proverbs 1:5). If you are hearing from God, your wisdom is not contestable (Luke 21:15). You need divine wisdom to handle the affairs of Life successfully (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

1. Through the word of God (1Samuel 3:21; Hebrews 1:1-2).

2. Through a witness of the spirit (Romans 8:14; 16). The witness of the spirits can also come in form of god’s peace the passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).

3. Through the voice of the spirit. This is beyond just a witness; it is hearing. This hearing can be inward (which means no one else, around you, hear it). The Bible calls it is ‘still small voice’- like the sound of a gentle whisper (1Kings 19:12). Sometimes the voice comes in the midst of a godly thought (Acts 10:19) the voice of the spirit can also be outward, in which case you will look around as if you heard or somebody else heard what you are hearing (1Sam. 3:3-5; Acts 9:3-5)

4. Though revelations – dreams, visions, trance (Joel 2:28). Dreams can come from your thoughts (Eccl. 5:3) or the devil – scary and tormenting (nightmares) or from God – insightful, instructional, or revelational (Job 33:14; 17). Dreams happen when you are fully asleep (day or night). Vision can come when you are awake and see something like a still or motion picture (day or night) – *Daniel 2:19.* Trance is like the average between a dream and a vision (you are half awake, half asleep) when the physical senses seem to be suspended (Acts 10:10-11).

5. Through ordain situation or circumstances (Proverbs 24:30-34; Jeremiah 18:1-6). God can take you by all through a happening to give you a clear direction for Life.

6. Through prophetic utterances and confirmations (Hosea 12:10). However, believers are cautioned against living at the mercy of prophecy (1John 4:1)

7. Through diverse means as deemed fit by God (Hosea 12:10)

RECOGNISING DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

The Holy Spirit takes on the role of a guide and counselor, leading us in the way we should go and revealing God’s truths (Luke 12:12). One of the most important ways to recognize the Holy Spirit guidance is to be familiar with God’s word. The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom about how we should live (2Timothy 3:16), and believers are to search the scriptures (John 5:39), meditate on them, and commit them to memory (Psalm 1:2). The word is the “sword of the spirit” (Ephesians 6:17), and the spirit will use it to speak to us (John 16:12-14) to review God’s will for our lives. He will also bring specific scriptures to mind at times when we need them the most (John 14:26).

Therefore, we must always test our inclinations against the scriptures. This is because the Holy Spirit will never push us to do anything contrary to God’s word (1Corinthians 14:33). If it is conflicts with the Bible then it is not from the Holy Spirit and should be ignored. It is also necessary for us to be in continual prayer with the father (1Thessalonians 5:17) not only does this keep our hearts and minds open to the Holy Spirit’s leading but it’s also allows the spirit to speak on our behalf (Romans 8:26-27).

CONCLUSION
If you are not lead and guided by God, you will wonder and get lost in the wilderness of life. Let God lead you.

*LESSON: SEVENTEEN*

TOPIC: DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE (PT 2)

MEMORY VERSE: “And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judeh? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron”. – 2Samuel 2:1

BIBLE PASSAGE: HABAKKUK 2:1-2

INTRODUCTION
The Bible is full of records of believers who yielded to the leading and guidance of God. While it may seem difficult for some people in our contemporary world to allow God in their pursuit, Christians that meet the requirements will walk in the path of God.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

BIBLICAL INSTANCES OF DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

In *Genesis 12:1-4*, God ordered Abram out of his country to a promised land and he obeyed. *Numbers 9:17-23* narrates how the Israelites obeyed the instruction of God to travel with the cloud. God instructed Jacob to return to his fatherland (Genesis 31:3) just as He told Elijah in *1Kings 18:1* to show himself to a Ahab as He would open the heavens for the rain to fall. According to *2Samuel 5:19,* David enquired from God on whether to go against the Philistines or not. *Matthew 2:9-12* tells that God led and guided the wise men to the place of birth of Jesus Christ. In *Acts 9:10-11*, the Lord gave and guided Ananias to a specific address of Saul of Tarsus. Surprisingly, the Holy Spirit can forbid you to perform a task, though, it may seem like it would please God (Acts 16:6).

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIVINE LEADING AND GUIDANCE

1. Delights in the Lord Psalm 37:4-5; 1Corinthians 2:9).

2. Passion for God’s will (Luke 22:42). The will of God does not leave you miserable or regretful but rather it takes you to the expected end (Jeremiah 29:11)

3. The willingness to be led (Romans 8:14; Psalm 23:1-2).

4. The attitude of meekness (Psalm 25 9) : meekness equals being teachable.

5. The attitude of enquiry (Jeremiah 6:16; Matthew 7:7)

6. The attitude of hearing and listening – activate the listening mode (Psalm 85:8; Habakkuk 2:1-2).

7. The attitude of patience (Isaiah 28:16). Do not force yourself to hear what God is not saying

8. Soak in and meditate on the word of God (Psalm 119:105).

9. Pay attention to godly leaders over you (1Samuel 3:9).

10. Obey previous instructions (Mark 4:24b). If you have not harkened to previous instructions, you may not hear the next move of God.

CONCLUSION
If God is the One leading you, you can never miss the mark. Ask for the grace to understand the mind of God and be guided in the right direction. If you think you have gone far in the wrong direction and refuse to turn back, you will only end in the wrong destination.

*LESSON: EIGHTEEN*

TOPIC: THANKSGIVING

MEMORY VERSE: “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms”. – Psalm 95:2

BIBLE PASSAGE: PSALM 100:1-5

INTRODUCTION
To be thankful literarily means to be full of thanks or appreciation. It is an expression of gratitude to someone. Thankfulness in this context is an act of thanksgiving or a show of gratitude to God. Though some people are ungrateful for various reasons, we must not be ingrates because of its attendant dangers.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. REASONS AND BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING
2. DANGERS OF INGRATITUDE

REASONS AND BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is a command (1Chronicles 16:8). The request of a believer should start and end with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). We thank God for victories over battles of life (Jonah 2:9). It is important to thank God for His mercies and divine provisions (Psalm 68:19; Micah 7:18-20). Thanksgiving is offered to God for His miracles and restoration of hope (1Samuel 2:1-5; Psalm 126:1-2). The primary reason God created us in His image is for fellowship, thanksgiving, praise and joyful heart (Isaiah 43:21)

If you will cultivate the habit of showing gratitude to God, you will compel overflowing blessing from Him. These blessings include: answer prayers (John 11:41-44); abundant provision (Mark 8:6-8); deliverance from bondage (Acts 16:25-26). Thankful people are peaceful and joyful (Philippians 4:6-7). They enjoy divine presence (Psalm 22:3; 95:2), completed restoration, wholeness (Luke 17:16-19) and victory without a fight (2Chronicles 20:21-23).

DANGERS OF INGRATITUDE

Ingratitude is the result of vain imagination and darkened heart. Sometimes your thanksgiving is senseless to the ordinary person but it is more profitable to be thankful than to complain (Romans 1:12; Proverbs 15:8). There are several reasons people are ungrateful to God. Sin or Spiritual blindness (Ephesians 4:17-18). Refusal to take account of what God has done (Romans 1:12). Pride (Acts 12:21-23).

Every act of ingratitude comes with it’s attendant danger. Risk of losing the existing blessing, salvation and Heaven (Matthew 25:24-25, 30). Limiting one’s blessing or answered prayers (Luke 27:12-16,19). It could result in emptiness and sorrow (Proverbs 15:13; 17:22) thereby, making restoration practically difficult.

CONCLUSION
Showing gratitude to God ensures continuous divine presence and fellowship.

*LESSON: NINETEEN*

TOPIC: HONOUR GOD

MEMORY VERSE: “A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?”. – Malachi 1:6

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1SAMUEL 2:29-30

INTRODUCTION
Honour (from the Hebrew word ‘tiph’arah’) means esteem,’ ‘value,’ or ‘great respect.’ To honour someone is to bestow value upon him or to highly esteem another. It is very important to note that all authority and honour belong to God alone (1Tim. 1:17; Rev. 5:13). This lesson points us to why and how we should honour God.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. WHY SHOULD WE HONOUR GOD?
2. HOW SHOULD WE HONOUR GOD?

WHY SHOULD WE HONOUR GOD?

God deserves all honour (Rev. 4:11). There has never been, nor will there ever be, anyone in any position of power or of influence who can claim such an honour (1Tim. 6:16). God alone is the creator and the one that sustains the heavens and the earth (Rev. 14:7).
Therefore, as believers, we honour God for who he is (Isa. 45:5-6); because he is our father (Matt. 6:9b); in our recognition that the gift of eternal life and the salvation of our souls come through Jesus Christ and him alone (Jh. 11:25; Acts 4:12; 1Tim. 2:5); for his goodness and wonderful works (Ps. 107:15); for all his benefits we enjoy (Ps. 63:19).
All true believers are to honour God (Ps. 134:1), through our acknowledgement and confession that he is the one and only God (Exodus 20:3).

HOW SHOULD WE HONOUR GOD?

There are several ways to honour God. For instance:

1. We give honour and obeisance to him through our adoration and obedience to his will (1Sam 2:29-30).

2. To esteem God, as first in our lives, is to totally commit our lives to him and devote our possession to his service and glory (Matt. 22:37-38; Colossians 3:17).

3. Believers are to honour God with their substances (firstfruits, tithes, offerings, etc.) wholeheartedly (Proverbs 3:9-10).

4. We must honour God by living holy because he is holy and we are created in his image (1Pet. 1:15-16).

5. Honouring God has great rewards: God will honour those who honour him (1Sam. 2:30) and give them overflowing blessings (Proverbs 3:9-10).

CONCLUSION
God deserves all honour and it must be given to him.

*LESSON: TWENTY*

1. WHO DESERVE HONOUR?
2. HOW CAN WE ATTAIN TRUE HONOUR

WHO DESERVE HONOUR?

The idea of honoring people is Biblical and can be showcased in many of our basic relationship. Here are some of them:

1. Citizen-Authority relationship. We are to honour especially those in authority through obedience and demonstration of respect, irrespective of their age or qualification. This comes from the fact that they representative God’s intimate authority (Romans 13:1-2)

2. Laity-Clergy relationships. The Bible speaks of the relationship of the church as deserving ‘double-honour’ (1Timothy 5:17)

3. Employee-Employer relationship. We are equally commended to honour one another in our Employee-Employer relationships (Ephesians 6:5-9).

4. Husband-Wife relationships. In a marriage relationship, the husband is expected to love and show appreciation to his wife while she reciprocates with reverence (Ephesians 5:33).

5. Children-Parents relationships. The command to honour our parents comes with a promise (Exodus 20:12). To do otherwise is to attract untimely death (Matthew 15:4)
On the whole, the Bible admonishes us to honour all men (1Peter 2:17).

HOW CAN WE ATTAIN TRUE HONOUR

The Bible teaches that true honour is found in God (Deuteronomy 26:19). Anyone who wishes to attain true honour must, first of all, have a cordial relationship with God (Psalm 91:14-15). Therefore to attain honour, we must be righteous (Proverbs 21:21); humble (Proverbs 22:4; Proverbs 15:33); wise and intelligent (Proverbs 4:7-8); hardworking and delight (Proverbs 22:29); faithful and maintain integrity (Psalm 41:12; Proverbs 20:7), among others.

CONCLUSION
If we honour those promoted by God, He will honour us too. Do not look down on anyone.

*LESSON: TWENTY-ONE*

TOPIC: PLUGGED-IN KNEES

MEMORY VERSE: “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint”. – Luke 18:1

This exercise was pressed upon us more frequently by our Saviour. Thus He encouraged His disciples to be fervent, consistent, and persevere in the place of prayer (Luke 18:1). He even propounded the parable of an unjust judge who was overcome by an unrelenting widow, to do her Justice contrary to his inclination (Luke 18:1-7).

LESSON OUTLINES
1. THE NEED FOR PERSISTENT PRAYERS
2. HOW TO PRAY REGULARLY

THE NEED FOR PERSISTENT PRAYERS

‘Plunged-in’ is to engage wholeheartedly in a task or to be connected. The need for ceaseless prayers is therefore emphasized in the Bible (1Thessalonians 5:17) for various reasons. Some of these are:
1. ,To keep the communication line between God and his children open (Psalm 55:17)

2. To be filled with the power of the Holy Ghost and be bold (Acts 4:31)

3. To be guided when there is a need to take a decision (Acts 1:24) or find direction (Genesis 24:12).

4. For believers in Christ to enjoy the fullness of joy promised them by God all the time (John 16:23-24)

5. To stand though the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16) and full of sin, error, subtle heretical seducers and sharp persecutions (2Timothy 3:13-14; Matthew 24:12-13).

6. To stay connected to their parent stock, as a branch and be fruitful (John 15:5-6)

7. To be able to withstand and confront the forces of darkness that seek to destroy God’s children (Ephesians 6:12-13)

8. To cast out unclean spirit (Matthew 17:19-21)

9. For restoration (Judges 16:28) and when agonized (1Samuel 1:10).

10. To bring the flesh under (Matthew 26:41; 2Corinthians 10:3-5) and always look up unto God (Psalm 5:3).

HOW TO PRAY REGULARLY

We pray frequently when we take prayer as a daily task (Psalm 5:3; 55:17). Deliberately pray in the spirit (Ephesians 6:18). Live in the reality that there is a need to pray without ceasing (Mark 14:38). Put God first on any issue by contacting him through prayers (Psalm 37:5). Be actively involved in praying always (Colossians 1:9). Give yourself to prayers (Psalm 109:4). Delight in God when paying (Job 22:26-27). Pray with confidence that God hears and answer will come (1John 5:14-15). Pray everywhere (1Timothy 2:8).

CONCLUSION

2. *Sex fast:* The Bible also refer to ‘sexual fast’ (Exodus 19:15). A married couple can mutually agreed to abstain from sex for a short period to devote themselves to prayers (1Corinthians 7:5)

3. *Pleasure fast* – Another way is to confine or isolate oneself from people and pleasurable thing to a place as a means of worship, studying the Bible and praying to God for a purpose (Luke 2:36-37; 5:16). Time alone with God require discipline.

REASONS OF BASIC CAUTIOUS

Fasting is far more about focusing on God than abstinence from food or other things that gives pleasure (Zachariah 7:5). Also, people fast for various reasons. Some for spiritual strength (Isaiah 40:30-31), supernatural revelation, wisdom and understanding (Ezra 8:21; Daniel 9:22), supernatural breakthrough (Zachariah 8:19) repentance from sinful ways (Joel 2:12-13; Daniel 9:3-5), spiritual hunger and demonstration of love for God’s people and burden for souls (2Corinthians 11:27-28; Matthew 5:6) and sharing with the poor and destruction of wicked works among others (Isaiah 58:6-7 )

Believers should exercise some caution while fasting. For instance, fasting should be limited to a set time and for a clear purpose (1Corinthians 7:5; Esther 4:16). It is neither intended to punish the body not a dieting methods (Isaiah 58:5) but true redirect attention to God. It is a period to give up self-indulgent activities for a deeper fellowship with God (Matthew 4:1-2). Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetic, for example). However, everyone can temporarily give up something to draw closer to God (Exodus 19:15). Biblical fast is to be done in a spirit of humility and joyfulness (Matthew 6:16-18). It should not be to manipulate or do evil (Isaiah 54:4a; Acts 23:21). In breaking ‘absolute and long fast,’ warm liquids (not carbonated drinks) are advised and should be taken in bits.

The Bible uses a lot of agricultural metaphors because they were easily understood by the highly agricultural culture of the time. The “fruit of the Spirit” refers to the “results” we should see in our lives after receiving the Holy Spirit and working on our hearts over time (Romans 8:9;12:1-2). The Apostle Paul gives us the component of the ‘fruit’ as “……love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self control…… Galatians 5:21-22.

The ‘fruit’ metaphor helps us see our faith as a tree with branches that may or may not produce fruit, depending on how well we take care of the tree itself. If we give the tree nourishment (God’s word) -1Peter 1:23;2:2, then it will grow bigger.

If you are a Christian, and you are not exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit in your life, at best, you will experience stagnation-no growth (James 2:14-26). At worst, the result of “bad fruit” is death (Romans 6:20-23; Proverbs 14:12). Notice that Galatians 5:22 start with the word “But.” The Apostle Paul tells us that the opposite of these spiritual fruit.

Now that we are in Christ, we have the power to conquer the sinful desire of the flesh (2Cor. 5:17; Rom. 8:37). The very presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts means we can now choose godliness over sinfulness (Philip. 1:22). The choice is 100% OURS (Deut. 30:19). We are no longer a slave to our sinful nature (Rom. 6:14, 18). We can choose love over hate, patience over hostile frustration, faithfulness over disloyalty, self-control over lustful desires…etc. This is the beauty of havinG the Holy Spirit-He gives us the POWER to fight (Philip. 2:13; 4:13). All we must do to tap into that power is to practice obedience to God’s word and his direction (John. 15:4, 10, 14; Col. 3:16; Ps. 1:2-3).

WORK AT IT

Some Christians have asked if it is possible to produce all the components to the fruit of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This seems like a lot to work on. First, we should remember that God will not give us a load we cannot bear (Matt. 11:29-30). Secondly, the ‘yoke’ of bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not just possible, it is mandatory (Luke 1:37; Matt. 5:48). However, since the enemies of our Salvation – the devil and the flesh – will not give up easily on us, we are bound to face the temptation of yielding to occasionally (1Peter 5:8-10) We must continue to work at attaining perfection (Philip. 2:12), surrender totally to the dictates of the Holy spirit and resist the devil (James 4:7). The Apostle Paul charges believers to make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14). Let us keep working at bearing all the components of the fruit of the spirit; it is possible (Philip. 4:13). We must daily, take steps to nurture our relationship with Jesus so that we can grow to look more like him in his manner, attitude and actions (HEB. 12:2; Philip 2:5).

There are several choices we make in life with their attendance consequences. For instance, the choices we make about food and exercise influence our physical health (Proverbs 25:16). The choices we make about our academic pursuits often affect our career and occupations. The choices we make in reaction to life’s adversities affect our psychological well-being (Proverbs 24:10).

Self-control will help guide our choices and prevent us from making a rational decisions (James 1:19; 1Samuel 25:10). We must make good plans and be guided by good vision before we make a choice (Ruth 3:1-4; Proverbs 16:3,9). More importantly, prayers will enable us to key into the mind of God (1Samuel 30:7-8; Psalm 37:5,23)

Conversely, pride, hypocrisy, doubt, and negative thoughts among others, will hinder us from making the right choices (Proverbs 11:2; Psalm 10:4; Isaiah 32:6; James 1:8). We must strive to always have the correct mind frame all the time (Proverbs 4:23).

CONCLUSION
If we have made the wrong choice in the past, it is time to forgive ourselves and move on with life as we make necessary corrections to avoid any repetition of such.

*LESSON: SIXTEEN*

TOPIC: LEADERSHIP: MEANING AND THEORIES

MEMORY VERSE: “So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.”. — Psalm 78:72(NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: MATTHEW 20:25-28

INTRODUCTION
Everything rises and falls with leadership. The more skillful and effective the leadership, the better the group or organisation runs, and the more the potential for growth increases. While some argue that leaders are born, the making of a true leader is not a ‘sprint’ but a ‘marathon’. It is therefore expedient to carefully and painstakinly learn about leadership and be skilled in the art.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. LEADERSHIP DESCRIBED
2. LEADERSHIP THEORIES

LEADERSHIP DESCRIBED

Many scholars have attempted to define or describe the term ‘leadership’. For instance, leadership is said to be a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow (John 21:3). Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Mark 3:14). Leadership is any behaviour that influences the actions and attitude of others to achieve certain results (Genesis 7:5-7). Societal values determine whether the leadership of a an individual is positive or negative (Isaiah 9:16), based on the goals and results being pursued and on the means used to influence others. Christian leaders leadership is an interpersonal behaviour (John 10:27;12:26). It is a relationship between a ‘mature’ Christian (who is willing to take responsibility) and a group of believers in Christ (who are willing to be responsible followers) with the aim of influencing them to achieve the common goal of doing God’s will in this world and making it to Heaven (1Corinthians 11:1;Luke 9:57).

A leader is someone who can see how things can be improved and Who rallies people to move towards that better vision. Leaders can work towards making their vision a reality while putting people first. Just being able to motivate people is not enough – leaders needs to be empathetic and connect with people to be successful. Leaders do not have to come from the same background or follow the same part. Future leaders will actually be more diverse, which brings a variety of perspectives.

LEADERSHIP THEORIES

Various leadership theories have emerged over the year and in attempt to explain the complexities of leadership. The following theories offer a diverse and representative view of leadership:

1. “Great leader” theories: in great leader theories assume that great leaders are born not made (Jeremiah 1:5; Judges 13:5).

2. Traits theory: similar in some ways to “great leader” theories, trait theories assume that people inherit certain behaviours, quality, and traits that make them suited for leadership (2Kings 14:1-3).

3. Situational theories: situational theories proposed that leaders will demonstrate a particular style of leadership depending on the given situation (1Corinthians 9:19-20)

4. Behavioral (functional) theories: behavioral theories of leadership are based on the belief that leaders are made, not born (the opposite of the “great leaders” theories) *Daniel 1:8, 20-21;6:1-3*

5. Transactional theories: transactional theories focus on the principle that followers are motivated by a system of risk and reward. If individuals or teams achieved their identify goal(s), they will be rewarded and if they do not succeed, they will be punished (Matthew 25:14-30).

6. Transformational theories: transformational theories are based on the idea that leaders motivate their followers. This will inspire team members of followers to perform for the good of the team (John 14:12-14).

CONCLUSION
Every man has a trait of leadership and them. Discover yours with the help of the Holy Spirit and make up your mind to be a leader after God’s heart.

*LESSON: SEVENTEEN*

TOPIC: LEADERSHIP: MEANS AND ROLES

MEMORY VERSE: “Discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you”. — Proverbs 2:11(NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: GENESIS 41:38-41

INTRODUCTION
Having discovered what leadership is and certain theories of leadership with biblical instances, we need to find out how to become leaders as Christians. Equally, based on the situational theories of leadership, the role of team leaders should evolve as team develop through different stages. Effective leaders are aware of the stages and carry out the necessary actions required at each stage that will enable the team to be successful.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. MEANS OF BECOMING LEADER
2. THE ROLE OF LEADERS

MEANS OF BECOMING LEADER

There are various means of attaining leadership positions. These means includes:

1. Qualification: some people become leaders because they achieve the necessary certification or credentials for a position, e.g Vice-chancellor, Judges, etc. (Daniel 1:17-20).

2. Merit: Some people become leaders primarily through faithful and enthusiastic participation as well as competent performance over time. These leaders may be considered to have “paid their dues” (1Samuel 17:31-37). E.g. sSudent Union leaders.

3. Capturing: some people become leaders by campaigning for a position being political, or otherwise maneuvering themselves into a position. Leaders in this category may also take possession or seize the position through positive or negative means. E.g. politicians, military dictators, etc. (2Samuel 15:6).

4. Identification: Some people become leaders because they possess personal or professional qualities that are recognised as beneficial and undeniable, and are appropriate for meeting the team’s need at a particular time (Genesis 41:38-41). E.g. project manager of a business course representatives, etc.

5. Default: Some people become leaders simply because other team members are unwilling or unable to accept the position of responsibility. An example is someone in a small discussion group to lead the discussion (1Samuel 17:10-11, 32).

6. Heritage: some people become leaders simply because they come from a privilege family or ruling class. E.g. children of great business owners, royal descendants, etc. (1Chronicles 19:1)
The categories also overlap, resulting in many ways that someone can attain a leadership position. Leaders can perform as I levels and make valuable contributions to their teams, regardless of how they were selected or designated as a leaders.

THE ROLE OF LEADERS

Certain situations that effective leaders need to be aware of and the actions they can take to deal with them at the various stages of team development are briefly outlined below:

1. Forming: Leaders play a dominant role at this stage. Leader should provide the team with clear direction and establish easily identifiable and understandable objective/outcomes Exodus 4:29-31).

2. Storming: Leaders needs to help team members overcome feelings of discomfort and be aware of any members who may feel overwhelmed (Ephesians 4:31-32). Leaders work to resolve conflicts and build a good relationship between team members. Leaders needs to remain positive and firm in the face of challenges to their leadership or to the team’s goal (Numbers 16:1-3)

3. Norming: Team members come to respect the leader’s authority and some members demonstrate leadership in specific areas. Team leaders can take a step back from the team at this stage as individual members take greater responsibility (Exodus 18:14-17). This is also when a team hierarchy was established.

4. Performing: The leaders are able to delegate much of the work and can concentrate on developing the skills and abilities of individual team members (Exodus 18:21). Leaders should organise “get together/fun time” as much as possible with a view to celebrate success once the team has achieved high performance. Being a part of the team at this stage feels easy and comfortable compared to the early stages.

5. Adjourning: Team may organise a celebratory event at the end of a project. Team members will likely leave with fond memories of their experience.

CONCLUSION
You should influence people around you positively.

*LESSON: EIGHTEEN*

TOPIC: ‘EUCHARISTIA’

MEMORY VERSE: “That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all Your wondrous works”. – Psalm 26:7 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: PSALM 100:1-5

INTRODUCTION
‘Eucharistia’ is the Greek word that literally means thanksgiving or gratitude. It is an active grateful language (to God, as an act of worship) or thankfulness. To be thankful literarily means to be appreciative or full of thanks.

*LESSON: TWENTY-TWO*

TOPIC: YOU ARE IMPORTANT

MEMORY VERSE: “What is man that you are mindful of him, And the son of man that you visit him?”. — Psalm 8:4(NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: ISAIAH 49:14-16

INTRODUCTION
As a human being, you are so important that you have about 100 billion nerve cells in your brain and that brain is said to be a supercomputer. God also inscribed your name on the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16) and so you are always before Him. You are so relevant to God that He gave His son Jesus for your life (John 3:16). The Psalmist even asked God a fundamental question about you in (Psalm 8:4) “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you visit him?” It is high time you begin to walk and live in that height of significance irrespective of your colour, gender, or physique.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
2. WALKING IN SIGNIFICANCE

FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE

You are so special and significance in the plans of God that, He took the time to make you in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). Even while you were in the womb, nobody knew how your bones were formed, except God (Ecclesiastes 11:5). As a unique individual, all the hairs of your head are numbered and known to God (Matthew 10:31). You are so awesomely created that no one else is exactly like you: your thumbprints are so distinct and there is no other thumbprints like yours. Your eyes are so vital they are called the light of the body (Matthew 6:22). You are so central in God’s program that after creation He looks at you and said you are very good (Genesis 1:31). He made you a sweet fragrance of Christ (2Corinthians 2:15). You are privileged to be called the heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Jesus (Romans 8:17). The Spirit of God dwells in you, so you carry His presence (Romans 8:11).

WALKING IN SIGNIFICANCE

With the knowledge of being fearfully created in the likeness of God, it is imperative that you work and live significantly in that light (Matthew 5:14). As joint-heirs with Christ you are to work in dominion (Genesis 1:26) with your heads lifted high in Christ Jesus as a king and priest (Revelation 510; 1Peter 2:9). You must refuse to give in to low self-esteem but rather, walk in the confidence of Christ the King (Acts 2831 As a key personality, you must carry yourself with dignity anywhere you are and refuse to live in fear (2Timothy 1:7). You must stand boldly even before the strong and mighty to declare who you are in Christ Jesus (John 7:26). You must also occupy till He comes (Luke 19:13). Like the saints of old, you have to show your peculiarity as a chosen generation (1Peter 2:9) and a sought-after person (Daniel 4:9)

CONCLUSION
It does not matter whether you tall or short, fat or slim, male or female, etc you are God’s creature who is expected to fulfill a specific purpose on earth. You are important

*LESSON: TWENTY THREE*

Purity is important to God and staying sexually pure before and during marriage is trendy because purity has to do with the mind and the act. The sex journey starts from the mind, no wonder Jesus says whoever looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her. Also, Hebrews 13:4 boldly declares that a marriage is honourable when the bed is undefiled. Premarital sex lustful sexual thoughts, and any form of sexual vices are not acceptable to God because God is holy and we are His temple.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. ILLS OF PREMARITAL SEX AND LUSTFUL THOUGHTS.
2. WHY SEXUAL PURITY IS COOL

ILLS OF PREMARITAL SEX AND LUSTFUL THOUGHTS.

To engage in premarital sex (sex before marriage) is to commit a grievous sin in God’s sight (1Corinthians 10:8) and to also sin against one’s body (1Corinthians 6:18). Premarital sex also comes with a sense of hatred or guilt that haunts it victims (2Samuel 13:15). Unwanted pregnancy may result from this illicit sexual act, thus, bringing about shame and it may even result in abortion- which is murder (Exodus 20:13). Some Sexually Transmitted Infections/Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STI/STDs), HIV/AIDS, etc. may result from this illicit act. Also, the negative emotional and phycological impacts of premarital sexual behavior such as; a life of regrets, loss of self-respect, depression (2Samuel 13:19-20), loss of family support, substance abuse, and even suicide are some problems associated with illicit sexual activities.

Apart from the fact that lustful thoughts are sinful (Matthew 5:28), they also help to trigger illicit sex (Mark 7:21) and defile it’s victims (Romans 1:24). In it all, the judgement of God is on those who defile themselves (1Corinthians 3:17). Engaging in uncontrollable lustful thought is a sign that one is not filled with the Holy Spirit as one should (1Thessalonians 4:3-5).

WHY SEXUAL PURITY IS COOL

Sexual purity bring liberty from sin and produces holy vessels that are in ruffled (cool) and free from self guilt (Galatians 5:1-2, 2Timothy2:22). Staying pure sexually prevents emotional entanglements that may negatively affect future relationship and marriages (1Corinthians 6:16). It secures one’s destiny for good (Genesis 39:12; 41:38-42). The pure in heart are blessed because they will see God (Matthew 5:8). Sexual purity helps to maintain a steady relationship with God (Psalm 24:3-4). It also brings about peace with God and with oneself (Romans 8:6). The fear of contracting STIs/STDs will be eliminated. Unlawful partners do not have access to your godly temple (2Corinthians 6:15-16). You honour God and he honours you in return (1Samuel 2:30b).

CONCLUSION
Staying sexually pure is realistic when the flesh is put under subjection all the time and the Holy Spirit is in control.

TOPIC: HANDLING CRUSHES

MEMORY VERSE: “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul”. — 1Peter 2:11

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2SAMUEL 13:1-15

INTRODUCTION
To ‘crush on someone’ is to have a feeling of romantic love for that person, especially someone you have have not met physically or have any relationship with. Furthermore, the way someone smells, laughs, or smiles can play role in creating a crush while the feelings accompanying a crush can be overpowering. Crushing on someone is synonymous with ‘infatuation’ (an obsessive focus on the opposite gender). This study will attempt to distinguish between crushes and real love as well as proffer a way to handle this feeling.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CRUSH AND REAL LOVE
2. HOW TO HANDLE CRUSHES

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CRUSH AND REAL LOVE

Crush may begin just the same way love does, but love goes beyond physically and emotional attraction s to a point of sacrificed actions (1Cor. 13:4-9). If you observe that you are only attracted to a person because of the person’s external beauty or friendliness, you are just crushing. You also need to know that whenever you discover that your thoughts toward a particular person are predominated by sexual fantasies, coupled with lustful thoughts, then, you might merely be crushing rather than loving. This should not be entertained beyond the first fleeting thought. Love is driven by commitment and patience while crush is driven by emotions, impatience, and satisfaction with one’s selfish desires. Love seeks to serve the other person and does what is best for them (1Cor. 13:4-7) while crush causes you to act foolishly, not caring about anyone but yourself and demanding fulfilment of your wants. Love is a fruit of the spirit (Gal. 5:22) while crush can be the spark that ignites sinful thoughts, such as lust. Love never fail but crush does (1Cor. 13:8).

HOW TO HANDLE CRUSHES

Crushes are natural emotional tendencies that can degenerate to sin if not properly managed. If you find yourself thinking day and night about one person, you may have crossed the line from a normal liking to an in healthy obsession. Seeking intimate times of fellowship with God can help keep the crush in perspective. You start by being honest with the Lord about your feelings, like the Psalmists (Ps. 38:9; 139:23). Ask Him to help you keep your thoughts pure and your action pleasing to him (Ps. 19:14). Ask God for wisdom to handle this difficult situation (Jam. 1:5). In addition, it is important for you to realize that lust is a bad substitute for love (2Sam. 13:15). Do not follow your lustful emotion (Rom. 6:12). Refuse to fuel your lust, walk in the spirit (Gal. 5:25). Confess the word of God to rid your heart of filth (Jn. 17:17). If you are a married person and you are attracted to another person, take time to build what you like in that person in your spouse. Above all, it is very important to seek wise and goodly counsel.

CONCLUSION
Do not run your feelings (Cor. 3:5), life decisions should be made through the guidance of the holy spirit and godly counsel (Prov. 24:6)

*LESSON: TWENTY-FIVE*

TOPIC: MARRIAGE HAS A PRICE

MEMORY VERSE: “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him”. — Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: EPHESIANS 5:22-33

INTRODUCTION
Marriage is a wonderful institution ordained by God for the good of humanity. However, just as every item of purchase has a price tag on it, marriage is not different. There are sacrifices and commitments to be put in place for a successful marriage.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. FEATURES OF A GOOD MARRIAGE
2. PRICES TO PAY

FEATURES OF A GOOD MARRIAGE

A good marriage is peaceful. This is not the absence of storms (Luke 8:23) but because Jesus, the Prince of peace, dwells in the couple; the peace of God that passes all understanding is evident in the marriage (Ephesians 2:14; Phillipians 4:7). Joy is also apparent; this joy is however not dependent on ephemeral things of life alone (Romans 15:13; Galatians 5:22). The free flow of forgiveness between a couple signifies a good union (Matthew 6:14). Honouring God and His word is a healthy union (Job 23:11-12, Psalm 119:2-3) as such couples are relieved of unnecessary tensions and confusion. Having a high opinion and being courteous to each other is a characteristic of a good marriage relationship (1Peter 3:6-7). A high level of respect exhibited by couples for each other depicts a noble marriage. Always doting on each other is a good sign of a good marriage (Genesis 26:8). Through knowledge of each other in all areas is important; that means ‘there is nothing to hide’ (Proverbs 13:16). Sustaining the friendship started in courtship shows a good marriage thus the couple enjoys the company of each other (Proverbs 5:18-19).

PRICES TO PAY

A good marriage comes with a high cost which is beyond the cost of an exotic wedding garment or ring. This cost would be paid with a lot of determination, hard work, and prayers. Some of the prices to pay include:

1. Giving up on individualism in order to achieve unity of purpose, especially in the areas of finance and work balance. (1Corinthians 3:3; Psalm 133:1-3).

2. Discarding all selfish behaviours.

3. Being open to each other. Stop hiding necessary information that should be made available to your spouse (Proverbs 27:5, Amos 3:3). Openness relieves the home of speculations and suspicious.

4. The sole belief and use of ‘my’ should be consciously changed to ‘our children’ ‘our responsibilities’ etc. (1Corinthians 4:6-7).

5. Couples should develop a strong link and stick together in their drives and accomplishments in order to have each other’s back (Song of Solomon 1:14; 2:16).

6. Couples must always yield to God through obedience to His word and saying ‘yes’ to His will (Psalm 119:11). The flesh must give way to the Spirit (Galatians 2:20; Galatians 5:19, 22).

7. Be intentional to make sure your marriage works because a successful marriage requires a lot of commitments (Ecclesiastes 9:9).

CONCLUSION
It will take a daily life of sacrifice and commitment to have a good marriage. Are you ready to pay the price?

*LESSON SIXTEEN (16)*
*TOPIC: LEADERSHIP: MEANING AND THEORIES*

MEMORY VERSE: “So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.”. — Psalm 78:72 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Matthew 20:25-28

INTRODUCTION: Everything rises and falls with leadership. The more skillful and effective the leadership, the better the group or organisation runs, and the more the potential for growth increases. While some argue that leaders are born, the making of a true leader is not a ‘sprint’ but a ‘marathon’. It is therefore expedient to carefully and painstakinly learn about leadership and be skilled in the act.

LESSON OUTLINES:
1. LEADERSHIP DESCRIBED
2. LEADERSHIP THEORIES

1. LEADERSHIP DESCRIBED
i. Many scholars have attempted to define or describe the term ‘leadership’. For instance, leadership is said to be a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow (John 21:3).
ii. Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Mark 3:14). Leadership is any behaviour that influences the actions and attitude of others to achieve certain results (Genesis 7:5-7).
iii. Societal values determine whether the leadership of a an individual is positive or negative (Isaiah 9:16), based on the goals and results being pursued and on the means used to influence others.
iv. Christian leadership is an interpersonal behaviour (John 10:27;12:26). It is a relationship between a ‘mature’ Christian (who is willing to take responsibility) and a group of believers in Christ (who are willing to be responsible followers) with the aim of influencing them to achieve the common goal of doing God’s will in this world and making it to Heaven (1Corinthians 11:1;Luke 9:57).
v. A leader is someone who can see how things can be improved and Who rallies people to move towards that better vision. Leaders can work towards making their vision a reality while putting people first.
vi. Just being able to motivate people is not enough – leaders needs to be empathetic and connect with people to be successful. Leaders do not have to come from the same background or follow the same part. Future leaders will actually be more diverse, which brings a variety of perspectives.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should share with the class, how they have influenced a particular decision in their home, church of place of work.

2. LEADERSHIP THEORIES
Various leadership theories have emerged over the year and in attempt to explain the complexities of leadership. The following theories offer a diverse and representative view of leadership:
i. “Great leader” theories: in great leader theories assume that great leaders are born not made (Jeremiah 1:5; Judges 13:5).
ii. Traits theory: similar in some ways to “great leader” theories, trait theories assume that people inherit certain behaviours, quality, and traits that make them suited for leadership (2Kings 14:1-3).
iii. Situational theories: situational theories proposed that leaders will demonstrate a particular style of leadership depending on the given situation (1Corinthians 9:19-20)
iv. Behavioral (functional) theories: behavioral theories of leadership are based on the belief that leaders are made, not born (the opposite of the “great leaders” theories) *Daniel 1:8, 20-21;6:1-3*
v. Transactional theories: transactional theories focus on the principle that followers are motivated by a system of risk and reward. If individuals or teams achieved their identify goal(s), they will be rewarded and if they do not succeed, they will be punished (Matthew 25:14-30).
vi. Transformational theories: transformational theories are based on the idea that leaders motivate their followers. This will inspire team members of followers to perform for the good of the team (John 14:12-14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2 : Students should pick and discuss the leadership theory they would adopt as Christians and share why they choose it with the class.

Leaders in this category may also take possession or seize the position through positive or negative means. E.g. politicians, military dictators, etc. (2Samuel 15:6).
iv. Identification: Some people become leaders because they possess personal or professional qualities that are recognised as beneficial and undeniable, and are appropriate for meeting the team’s need at a particular time (Genesis 41:38-41). E.g. project manager of a business course representatives, etc.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1:Students should discuss how a choice they made in time past affected or still affecting their destiny.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should discuss factors that have aided their major choices recently.

CONCLUSION: If we have made the wrong choice in the past, it is time to forgive ourselves and move on with life as we make necessary corrections to avoid any repetition of such.

*LESSON TWENTY ONE (21)*
*TOPIC: INTENTIONAL PREMARITAL RELATIONSHIP (COURTSHIP)*

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 24:1-7

MEMORY VERSE:
‘‘Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’ -let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.’’ Genesis 24:14 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: Studies have shown lots of breakups in premarital relationships because many of the relationships were accidental rather than intentional. Some started the premarital journey (courtship), without purpose, vision, and adequate guidance from God and good counsellors. As a result, the whole experience became moribund.

OUTLINES:
1. THE COMPOSITION
2. THE BEENEFITS

1.THE COMPOSITION
Question: What does an ideal premarital relationship involve?
Answer:
1. An ideal premarital relationship/courtship should be made up of two full-grown adults (male and female) who have a vision of establishing a godly home (Gen.2:24).
2. It should be purposeful and not wishy-washy.
3. There is a goal of marriage in sight (Gen.2:18).
4. It should be filled with realistic dreams and not ‘eldorados’ (Gen.24:40).
5. The two of them should take time to build a structure with a good base so they do not major on the minor (Lk.6:48).
6. The two adults should have a good understanding of each other (Prov.24:3).
7. It should be deliberate and pure (Matt. 5:8a; Heb.13:4).
8. It should be well planned with full details of how to move from one point to another (Isa.28:10).
9. It progresses by the day from just seeing each other from a distance to becoming close friends (SOS.1:14).
10. It should be fun-filled and built on trust.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should discuss others component of an intentional premarital relationship:

2. THE BENEFITS
Question: What are the benefits?
Answer: The following are some of the numerous benefits of an intentional premarital relationship during courtship:
1. It provides a Solid Marital Foundation: If the relationship is well established or grounded, it will serve as a template for the couple on getting married (Ps.11:3). As a result, any kind of ‘wind’ does not blow the marriage away (Prov.10:25).
2. It makes room for a Direction-Driven relationship: There is a realistic destination in mind. The details of the relationship are known to the two parties involved. They are on the same page (Gen.29:20-21).
3. The relationship will be filled with hope and assurances: It will be devoid of uncertainty and full of realistic expectations and optimism (Gen.29:18).
4. A Progressive and Flourishing adventure will be experienced (Ps.92:12).
5. There will also be Peace and Joy in the relationship: It is void of struggles because there are only two mature adults with positive intentions (Phil.4:7; Gen.24:67).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should mention the dangers of being unintentional and accidental in premarital relationships?

CONCLUSION: An intentional premarital relationship during courtship ultimately leads to a good and godly marriage.

*LESSON TWENTY TWO (22)*
*TOPIC: YOU ARE IMPORTANT*

BIBLE PASSAGE: Isaiah 49:14‭-‬16 NKJV

MEMORY VERSE: “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” Psalm 8:4 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: As a human being, you are so important that you have about 100 billion nerve cells in your brain and that brain is said to be a supercomputer. God also inscribed your name on the palms of His hands (Isa.49:16) and so you are always before Him. You are so relevant to God that He gave His Son-Jesus for your life (Jn.3:16). The Psalmist even asked God a fundamental question about you in Psalm 8:4 “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” It is high time you began to walk and live in that height of significance irrespective of your colour, gender, or physique.

OUTLINES:
1 FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
2 WALKING IN SIGNIFICANCE

1. FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
Teachers to explain human’s value and uniqueness in God’s creation with the following truth:
i. You are so special and significant in the plans of God that, He took the time to make you in His image and likeness (Gen.1:26).
ii. Even while you were in the womb, nobody knew how your bones were formed, except God (Eccl.11:5).
iii. As a unique individual, all the hairs of your head are numbered and known to God (Matt.10:30).
iv. You are so awesomely created that no one else is exactly like you: your thumbprints are so distinct and there is no other thumbprint like yours.
v. Your eyes are so vital, they are called the light of the body (Matt.6:22).
vi. You are so central in God’s programme that after creation He looked at you and said you are very good (Gen.1:31).
vii. He made you a sweet fragrance of Christ (2Cor.2:15).
viii. You are privileged to be called the heir of God and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus (Rom.8:17).
ix. The Spirit of God dwells in you, so you carry His presence (Rom.8:11).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students to discuss ways they are different from other creatures.

2. WALKING IN SIGNIFICANCE
With the knowledge of being fearfully created in the likeness of God, it is imperative that you walk and live significantly in that light (Matt.5:14):
a. As joint-heirs with Christ, you are to walk in dominion (Gen.1:26) with your heads lifted high in Christ Jesus as a king and priest (Rev.5:10; 1 Pet.2:9).
b. You must refuse to cave in to low self-esteem but rather, walk in the confidence of Christ the King (Acts 28:31).
c. As a key personality, you must carry yourself with dignity anywhere you are and refuse to live in fear (2 Tim.1:7).
d. You must stand boldly, even before the strong and mighty, to declare who you are in Christ Jesus (Jn.7:26).
e. You must also occupy till He comes (Lk.19:13).
f. Like the saints of old, you are to show your peculiarity as a chosen generation (1Pe.2:9) and a sought – after person (Dan.4:9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should discuss additional things they can do to walk in the significance of their importance.

CONCLUSION: It does not matter whether you are tall or short; fat or slim; male or female, etc. you are God’s creature who is expected to fulfil a specific purpose on earth. You are important.

*LESSON TWENTY THREE (23)*
*TOPIC: SEXUAL PURITY IS COOL*

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 6:15-20

MEMORY VERSE: “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality” 1 Thessalonians 4:3 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: Purity is important to God and staying sexually pure before and during marriage is trendy because purity has to do with the mind and the act. The sex journey starts from the mind, no wonder Jesus says whoever looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her. Also, Hebrews 13:4 boldly declares that a marriage is honourable when the bed is undefiled. Premarital sex, lustful sexual thoughts, and any form of sexual vices are not acceptable to God because God is holy and we are His temple.

OUTLINES:
1. ILLS OF PREMARITAL SEX AND LUSTFUL THOUGHTS
2. WHY SEXUAL PURITY IS COOL

1. ILLS OF PREMARITAL SEX AND LUSTFUL THOUGHTS
To engage in premarital sex (sex before marriage):
1. Is to commit a grievous sin in God’s sight (1 Cor.10:3) and to also sin against one’s body (1 Cor.6:18).
2. It also comes with a sense of hatred or guilt that haunts its victims (2 Sam. 13:15).
3. Unwanted pregnancy may result from this illicit sexual act, thus, bringing about shame and reproach to the victim and it may even result in abortion – which is murder (Ex.20:13).
4. Some Sexually Transmitted Infections/Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STIs/STDs), HIV/AIDS, etc. may result from this illicit act.
5. Also, the negative emotional and psychological impacts of premarital sexual behaviour such as; a life of reqrets, loss of self-respect, depression (2Sam.13:19-20), loss of family support, substance abuse, and even suicide are some of the problems associated with illicit sexual activities.

B. Apart from the fact that lustful thoughts are sinful (Matt.5:28);
1. They also help to trigger illicit sex (Mk.7:21)
2. It defile its victims (Rom.124).
3. In it all, the judgment of God is on those who defile themselves (1Cor.3:17).
4. Engaging in uncontrollable lustful thought is a sign that one is not filled with the Holy Spirit as one should (1Thess. 4:3-5).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: What dangers can sexual impurity cause?

2. WHY SEXUAL PURITY IS COOL
1. Sexual purity brings liberty from sin and produces holy vessels that are unruffled (cool) and free from self-guilt (Gal.5:1, 2 Tim.2:21).
2. Staying pure sexually prevents emotional entanglements that may negatively affect future relationships and marriages (1 Cor.6:16).
3. It secures one’s destiny for good (Gen.39:12; 41:38-42).
4. The pure in heart are blessed because they will see God (Matt.5:8).
5. Sexual purity helps to maintain a steady relationship with God (Ps.24:3-4).
6. It also brings about peace with God and with oneself (Rom.8:6).
7. The fear of contracting STIs/STDs will be eliminated.
8. Unlawful partners do not have access to your godly temple (2Cor.6:15-16).
9. You honour God and He honours you in return (1Sam.2:30b).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Give additional reasons you think sexual purity is cool

CONCLUSION: Staying sexually pure is realistic when the flesh is put under subjection all the time and the Holy Spirit is in control.

*LESSON TWENTY FOUR (24)*
*TOPIC: HANDLING CRUSHES*

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 Samuel 13:1-15

MEMORY VERSE: “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” 1Peter 2:11 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: To ‘crush on someone’ is to have a feeling of romantic love for that person, especially someone you have not met physically or have any relationship with.

OUTLINES:
1.THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CRUSH AND REAL LOVE
2. HOW TO HANDLE CRUSHES

1. THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CRUSH AND REAL LOVE
Question: The Teacher should ask the students what they understand by the word ‘crush’ and real love?
Answer 1:
i. Crush may begin just the same way love does, but love goes beyond physical and emotional attractions to a point of sacrificial actions (1Cor.13:4-9).
ii. If you observe that you are only attracted to a person because of the person’s external beauty or friendliness, you are just crushing.
iii. You also need to know that whenever you discover that your thoughts toward a particular person are predominated by sexual fantasies, coupled with lustful thoughts, then, you might merely be crushing rather than loving. This should not be entertained beyond the first fleeting thought.
Answer 2:
i. Love is driven by commitment and patience while crush is driven by emotions, impatience, and satisfaction with one’s selfish desires.
ii. Love seeks to serve the other person and does what is best for them (1Cor.13:4-7) while crush causes you to act foolishly, not caring about anyone but yourself and demanding fulfilment of your wants.
iii. Love is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal.5:22) while crush can be the spark that ignites sinful thoughts, such as lust.
iv. Love never fails but crush does (1Cor.13:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should distinguish between crush and real love

2. HOW TO HANDLE CRUSHES
Crushes are natural emotional tendencies that can degenerate to sin if not properly managed. If you find yourself thinking day and night about one person, you may have crossed the line from a normal liking to an unhealthy obsession.
How can we handle crushes?
A. Seeking intimate times of fellowship with God can help keep that crush in perspective:
i. You start by being honest with the Lord about your feelings, like the Psalmists (Ps.38:9; 139:23).
ii. Ask Him to help you keep your thoughts pure and your actions pleasing to Him (Ps.19:14).
iii. Ask God for wisdom to handle this difficult situation (Jam.1:5).
B. In addition, it is important for you to realise that lust is a bad substitute for love (2Sam. 13:15):
i. Do not follow your lustful emotion (Rom.6:12).
ii. Refuse to fuel your lust, walk in the Spirit (Gal.5:25).
C. Confess the word of God to rid your heart of filth (Jn.17:17).
D. If you are a married person and you are attracted to another person, take time to build what you like in that person in your spouse.
E. Above all, it is very important to seek wise and godly counsel.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The Class should mention other practical steps to handling crushes.

CONCLUSION: Do not run your life by feelings (Col.3:5), life decisions should be made through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and godly counsel (Prov.24:6).

*LESSON TWENTY FIVE (25)*
*TOPIC: MARRIAGE HAS A PRICE*

MEMORY VERSE: “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him”. — Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: EPHESIANS 5:22-33

INTRODUCTION: Marriage is a wonderful institution ordained by God for the good of humanity. However, just as every item of purchase has a price tag on it, marriage is not different. There are sacrifices and commitments to be put in place for a successful marriage..

LESSON OUTLINES:
1. FEATURES OF A GOOD MARRIAGE
2. PRICES TO PAY

1. FEATURES OF A GOOD MARRIAGE
Teachers should ask for students opinions on the features of a good marriage before discussing the points below:
i. A good marriage is peaceful. This is not the absence of storms (Luke 8:23) but because Jesus, the Prince of peace, dwells in the couple; the peace of God that passes all understanding is evident in the marriage (Ephesians 2:14; Phillipians 4:7). Joy is also apparent; this joy is however not dependent on ephemeral things of life alone (Romans 15:13; Galatians 5:22).
ii. The free flow of forgiveness between a couple signifies a good union (Matthew 6:14).
iii. Honouring God and His word is a healthy union (Job 23:11-12, Psalm 119:2-3) as such couples are relieved of unnecessary tensions and confusion.
iv. Having a high opinion and being courteous to each other is a characteristic of a good marriage relationship (1 Peter 3:6-7). A high level of respect exhibited by couples for each other depicts a noble marriage.
v. Always doting on each other is a good sign of a good marriage (Genesis 26:8).
vi. Through knowledge of each other in all areas is important; that means ‘there is nothing to hide’ (Proverbs 13:16).
vii. Sustaining the friendship started in courtship shows a good marriage thus the couple enjoys the company of each other (Proverbs 5:18-19).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should mention other features of good marriage known to them.

2. PRICES TO PAY
A. Teaches should use the points below to guide students into some of the meaningful prices that can be paid in a marriage and through class activity, balance the teaching by generating prices considered too high to be paid in any marriage e.g. enduring battering from spouse without crying out for help.

B. A good marriage comes with a high cost which is beyond the cost of an exotic wedding garment or ring. This cost would be paid with a lot of determination, hard work, and prayers. Some of the prices to pay include:
i. Giving up on individualism in order to achieve unity of purpose, especially in the areas of finance and work balance. (1Corinthians 3:3; Psalm 133:1-3).
ii. Discarding all selfish behaviours.
iii. Being open to each other. Stop hiding necessary information that should be made available to your spouse (Proverbs 27:5, Amos 3:3). Openness relieves the home of speculations and suspicious.
iv. The sole belief and use of ‘my’ should be consciously changed to ‘our children’ ‘our responsibilities’ etc. (1Corinthians 4:6-7).
v. Couples should develop a strong link and stick together in their drives and accomplishments in order to have each other’s back (Song of Solomon 1:14; 2:16).
vi. Couples must always yield to God through obedience to His word and saying ‘yes’ to His will (Psalm 119:11). The flesh must give way to the Spirit (Galatians 2:20; Galatians 5:19, 22).
vii. Be intentional to make sure your marriage works because a successful marriage requires a lot of commitments (Ecclesiastes 9:9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Are there prices ‘too high’ to pay for a successful marriage? Discuss them.

CONCLUSION: It will take a daily life of sacrifice and commitment to have a good marriage. Are you ready to pay the price?

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 25 FEBRUARY 2023 BIBLE READING MATTHEW 7:15-20

[15]Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

[16]Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

[17]Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

[18]A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

[19]Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

[20]Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 25 FEBRUARY 2023 MESSAGE

I once travelled to America. From the moment I got there, I went from one church to another ministering, so I planned to rest on my way back home. I boarded a plane and was sitting next to an old woman whom I didn’t want to have any conversation with because it would deny me my rest.

However, I rendered all the help she needed – I fastened her seat belt, placed her luggage in the upper compartment and released her table from the back of the opposite seat when she needed to eat. Before we landed, she asked, “Are you a Pastor?” I said, “Yes ma” and she said, “I knew it”.

The fruits you bear tell the kind of tree you are attached to. If it is impossible for a mango tree to bear an apple, then it is impossible for a child of God to behave like a child of the devil. Your character and good works are your fruits: hence, your family, classmates and people you come in contact with must be able to testify that indeed, you are a child of God.

Can you be identified as a believer without saying so?

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 25 FEBRUARY 2023 HYMN

WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

1. When we walk with the Lord,
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

CHORUS
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear,
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey

4. But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay,
For the favour He shows
And the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
