OPEN HEAVEN 12 FEBRUARY 2023 MESSAGE

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. – (Psalm 3:5) The Bible passage above says that you sleep and wake up because God sustains you. No matter how strong you are, if your enemies cannot defeat you when you are awake, they can defeat you when you are asleep. You may say, ‘Oh, I have bodyguards watching over me 24/7’.

There are enemies that bodyguards cannot even see, not to talk of fight. Could your bodyguards have protected you from Coronavirus? In any case, even the best body guards sleep too. In our Bible reading for today, King Saul was sleeping and Abner – a warrior so mighty that even David respected him, was supposed to be guarding the king, but he fell asleep also.

David came and on seeing them both sleeping, took the king’s spear and water bottle away. In the morning, he cried to the king and showed him that even with the best of bodyguards, he could have lost his life the previous night. No matter how many people you have guarding you, without God, you are not safe.

A few years ago, we had just finished the convention on a Sunday and that night, around 2 a.m., I went out, walking through the camp and thanking the Almighty God for what He had done. For a long while, I didn’t see a single guard.

Finally I saw one sprawled on a chair, fast asleep. He had another chair beside him so I sat on it. In his effort to drive mosquitoes away while still sleeping, he nearly slapped me, so I got up and left. The second guard I saw was not even pretending – he spread out four chairs, removed his shoes and lay down.

Now, even if they were awake, could they really prevent any evil from happening unless the Lord helps them? Indeed, except the Lord keeps a city, those who watch over it do so in vain (Psalm 127:1). Thank God that we have a Father who never sleeps. He is the only One who can really protect you and yours.

When you commit any sin against God, what is required of you is a confession. Confessing your sins to God shows that you acknowledge that He is able to forgive you. It is also a step you must take to obtain forgiveness from God, as written in the memory verse for today. God is merciful; the moment you take responsibility for your wrong thoughts, words or actions and ask for His forgiveness, He will forgive you and give you a new slate.

Some believers backslide because they find it difficult to confess their sins to God, ask for His mercy, and determine not to go back to that sin. Thus, whenever the Holy Spirit convicts you of a sin, don’t sleep on it: go to God immediately and confess to Him. He is a good Father; He will chastise you and then draw you close in His love so that you can grow.

Likewise, when you offend anyone, you have to restitute by confessing so that you can be free from guilt. Confession also brings peace and healing and makes you usable by God.

INTRODUCTION: Trials and tribulations are all part of what we experience as children of God. Every believer has his/her own share of trials and tribulations, but we must be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We must never stop praying as prayer is the only sure way to escape the trials of life. When we pray, we generate spiritual energy to overcome trials and temptations. Through these prayer points we are going to be engaging spiritual warfare as we battle our way out of the trials that plague our lives.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, I thank You for live. Only the living can face trials and overcome.

2. Lord, I thank You because You are bigger than the biggest of my trials and challenges.

3. Lord, I thank You because everything is created by You and You have not created anything You cannot control; I know you are capable of my present situation.

PRAYER
Tonight, when you leave this place, you will be leaving in peace.
You will be whole physically, financially, and spiritually.

The woman in this story examined herself and she was not satisfied with what she saw.

PRAYER
In the Name that is above every other name, every sickness that has been growing steadily in your life will end now.

All of you listening to me today who are not satisfied with poverty, the tide will turn for you today.

In the Name of the One who is called the Lord of Hosts, anyone of us today listening to me now that is under the attack of any enemy, tonight, your victory is certain.

The woman in Mark 55:25-34 chose to initiate a divine encounter.

TAKE NOTE OF THESE:

1. God is a king.

Isaiah 66:1 God said heaven is my throne.

Throne implies kingdom. He says I have a kingdom in heaven.

Psalm 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

2. God wants to rule and reign on earth.

Matthew chapter 6
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

God decided to make you His ambassadors so that He can rule on earth.

2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

He has made us king and priest. Revelation 1:5-6.

God has made us kings with power.

Ecclessiates 8:4 Where the word of a king is, there is power.

God made your tongue to have power.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue:.
There is power in your tongue.

He made you so powerful that whatever you say is what is going to happen.

For example, Genesis 2:19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

Numbers 14:28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

Say this loud and clear, “The tide is turning for me today”.

For example, in 2 Kings 2:19-22 there was a crisis in a town and a man of God made a decree and healed the land.

PRAYER
From now on, it will be well with you.

God put so much power in your mouth because He made you in His image and likeness. He made you to have dominion. Genesis 1:26-28.

God rules by decree, for you to be like Him, it will be His pleasure if you also rule by decree.

In Genesis 1:1-3, He simply said let there be light and there was light.

Job 22:22-28.

Job 22:28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee.

Joel 3:10 let the weak say I am strong.

Mark chapter 11
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Mountain, move!

Agents of the devil in my house, in my workplace, in my congregation, disappear.

You must learn to praise God like babies.

If you praise Him, you will get strength.

Please remember Your  promise that whosoever will come to You, You will no wise cast out. They have come now, Father, please receive them. Save their souls, let Your Blood wash away their sins, write their names in the Book of Life. Receive them into the family of God. From now on, when they cry unto You, please answer them by fire. I ask You to deliver him from people who have wrong motives. OPEN HEAVEN 11 FEBRUARY 2023 MESSAGE

I was reading my letters one day when I noticed two writers had the same surname – the first was from a woman asking me to pray that God would kill her mother-in-law because she was a witch. The second was from the mother-in-law, asking me to pray that God would kill her daughter-in-law because she was a witch.

Of course I disregarded both prayer requests as the Bible says that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood. While that fellow may be a tool in the hand of the devil to fight you, you are not to fight him or her. You are to go on your knees and fight the forces of darkness behind the person.

There are three types of hosts. There is the angelic or heavenly host which comprises the angels of God as we see in Luke 2:13. There is the demonic host – soldiers of Satan, with their officers (principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world as detailed in Ephesians 6:12). Finally, we have the human host – the armies of the world. The army, navy, air force, paramilitary and the likes are also called hosts. For example, in (1 Samuel 14:19), the Bible talks about the host of the Philistines.

There is constant conflict between these hosts. In Daniel 10:4-14 for example, the demonic prince in charge of Persia blocked the angel that was to bring the answer to Daniel’s prayer for 21 days until God sent Angel Michael to assist him.

While we cannot see demons with our physical eyes, they can see us. How do you fight an enemy you cannot see? You need the help of an ally who can see your enemy and help you gain victory. A major reason many people fall prey to the devil and his agents is that they try to fight spiritual battles with physical weapons.

(2 Corinthians 10:4) says the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. If you want to win over the forces of darkness, you need to employ spiritual weapons – worship (2 Chronicles 20:22), prayers (Ephesians 6:18), the word of God (Ephesians 6:17), love (Romans 12:20), and above them all, holiness (Proverbs 16:7).

INTRODUCTION: The life of the Christian is a constant battle between our sinful nature and our new nature in Christ (Gal.5:17). Unfortunately, just because we have accepted Christ does not mean we are automatically immune to sinful temptations (Rom.7:14-25). Sometimes, it may feel like we are trapped in a desire to reach for the sinful thing rather than the godly thing. This does not always have to be the case. We can overcome the flesh.

1. CHOOSE TO BEAR THE FRUIT
Now that we are in Christ, we have the power to conquer the sinful desires of the flesh (2Cor.5:17; Rom.8:37). The very presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts means we can now choose godliness over sinfulness (Phil.1:22). The choice is 100% OURS (Deut.30:19). We are no longer a slave to our sinful nature (Rom.6:14, 18). We can choose love over hate, patience over hostile frustration, faithfulness over disloyalty, self-control over lustful desires…etc. This is the beauty of having the Holy Spirit-He gives us the POWER to fight (Phil.2:13; 4:13). All we must do to tap into that power is to practice obedience to God’s word and His direction (Jn.15:4, 10, 14; Col.3:16; Ps.1:2-3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss the thin line between our emotions and exhibiting the fruit of the spirit.

2. WORK AT IT
Some Christians have asked if it is possible to produce all the components of the fruit of the Spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This seems like a lot to work on. First, we should remember that God will not give us a load we cannot bear (Matt.11:29-30). Second, the ‘yoke’ of bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not just possible, it is mandatory (Lk.1:37; Matt.5:48). However, since the enemies of our salvation – the devil and the flesh – will not give up easily on us, we are bound to face the temptation of yielding to sin occasionally (1Pet.5:8-10). We must continue to work at attaining perfection (Phil.2:12), surrender totally to the dictates of the Holy Spirit and resist the devil (Jam.4:7). The Apostle Paul charges believers to make no provision for the flesh (Rom.13:14). Let us keep working at bearing all the components of the fruit of the Spirit; it is possible (Phil.4:13). We must daily, take steps to nurture our relationship with Jesus so that we can grow to look more like Him in His manner, attitude and actions (Heb.12:2; Phil.2:5).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class should mention other practical steps a believer can take to produce all the fruit of the Spirit.

CONCLUSION: Though we may struggle and fail, we will surely conquer the flesh and bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We ought to daily strive for, work for, and yearn for the fruit of the Spirit.

Many years ago, I composed a song in my native language, it says:When a child wakes up early in the morning. He bows down to his elders. Lord, I am awake and I bow down to you.

As a responsible child, the first thing to do in the morning is to say ‘Thank you, Jesus!’ Then, do a brief study of the word of God before you go out of your room to greet the elders in the home. This invariably means that you would make it a habit to wake up at least an hour before your family devotion in order to spend time with your Maker.

Thus, quiet time is a period set aside to receive directions, warnings, or instructions from God before setting out for the day. I implore you to do this daily as it will help you keep your heart pure and will also help you know more of God.
