[23]For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

[24]Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 6 MAY 2024 MESSAGE

I once heard the story of a young girl who lived in a town in Nigeria where the state government wanted to construct a new road.

After the survey was done, the construction engineers told the town’s king that a big tree stood in their way.

The young girl heard about it and remembered that her teacher had taught her during Sunday school that believers have the ability to move mountains if they believe.

She went to the tree, touched it, and shouted, “In the name of Jesus, be uprooted and cast into the sea.”

The following month, to her utmost amazement, the engineers had cut down and uprooted the tree, and the road construction began.

That singular event boosted the young girl’s faith from then on.

My dear child, you are the apple of God’s eye, and your Father wants you to believe that whatever you ask in His name and according to His will concerning your family, academics, community, or neighbourhood will be done unto you. Therefore, ask in faith!

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 6 MAY 2024 HYMN 4 – CHRIST IS OUR CORNER-STONE

1. Christ is our Comer-stone;
On Him alone we build;
With His true Saints alone
The courts of Heaven are filled;
On His great Love
Our hopes we place
Of present grace,
And joys above.

2. Oh, then with hymns of praise
These hallow’d courts shall ring:
Our voices we will raise,
The Three in One to sing;
And thus proclaim
In joyful song,
Both loud and long,
That glorious Name.

3. Here, gracious God, do Thou
For evermore draw nigh;
Accept each faithful vow,
And mark each suppliant sigh;
In copious shower
On all who pray,
Each holy day,
Thy blessings pour.

4 Here may we gain from Heaven,
The grace which we implore,
And may that grace, once given
Be with us evermore;
Until that day,
When all the blest,
To endless rest
Are call’d away

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 5 MAY 2024 MESSAGE

The Bible enjoins us to rejoice at all times. This implies that irrespective of whatever you may be going through, you should rejoice.

I used to think that it was impossible for young people to suffer from hypertension, cardiac arrest, and others.

I thought that adults with lots of responsibilities like caring and providing for their children or juggling between their careers and ministry are the only ones who are prone to such health conditions.

However, I realised recently that everyone struggles with one thing or the other at different times, including newborns who cry to get their mothers’ attention every now and then.

My dear child, I know that you have some needs and struggles that even your parents sometimes do not understand.

However, God knows exactly how you are feeling, and He has instructed you to rejoice always.

If there’s something bothering you today, please talk to your teacher, school counsellor, or any of your parents or guardians so that you can feel less burdened and receive good counsel.

Don’t ever give in to depression because it is not God’s desire for you.

(LESSON 36)

TOPIC: EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

BIBLE PASSAGE: Galatians 5:13-18

13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

MEMORY VERSE:

“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.” Proverbs 10.34

INTRODUCTION

Emotional intelligence is the concept of knowing our feelings, managing, and expressing them appropriately.

It is also the ability to skilfully recognise how others feel and modify our own behaviour depending on the situation at hand in order to live in harmony with them.

Our God is emotionally intelligent (Psalm 78:38). His emotions are positive and appropriate. Since we are created in His image”, then it means, as we mature in Christ, our emotions should, in great measure share His divine qualities with the help of the Holy Spirit.

OUTLINES:

  1. CLASSIFICATION OF EMOTIONS
  2. MANAGING EMOTIONS

1. CLASSIFICATION OF EMOTIONS

We shall break down emotions into three classes for easy identification.

1. Holy Emotions – these are emotions expressed by God such as compassion (Psalm 78:38), and holy indignation (Deuteronomy 32:16).

Holy emotions can also accompany a believer’s life in the spirit in times of worship (Ephesians 5:19).

They are not necessarily religious or pious emotions. They are good and beautiful (Philippians 4:8).

2. Human Emotions – these are based on our human nature and situations

Jesus Christ expressed natural human emotions while on earth, for instance. He wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35).

Feelings such as happiness, ecstasy, grief, fear, anxiety. and vulnerability are natural human emotions. For the “Christian”, they are temporary. While some of these emotions may be bad they are not evil or toxic if and when properly managed.

3. Fleshly Emotions – these are toxic and destructive emotions such as untamed anger, malice, envy, selfish ambition, bitterness, lust, hatred, etc.

They are closely tied up will the works of the flesh and evil deeds (Galatians 5:19-21). Their outcome is spiritual death (Romans 8:6, 13; Galatians 5:21b).

These emotions were not part of mankind at creation (Genesis 1:31a).

They constitute what Apostle Paul calls the “old man” that must be put off and crucified (Romans 6:6; Ephesians 4:22).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1:

Students should mention one of the dangers of entertaining fleshly emotions.

2. MANAGING EMOTIONS

Below are some practical steps on how we can manage our emotions and relate better with others.

1. Self-awareness: identify and admit that you have issues with emotions and have a clear picture of how you appear to most people in order to make self-improvements (2 Corinthians 15.0).

2. Self-control: Put your emotions under check so it does not take you over (Proverbs 16:32).

3. Sell-motivation: Rather than being depressed, encourage yourself and maintain a stable temper (1 Samuel 30:6)

4. Self-expression and empathy: always find an appropriate channel and time to politely express your feelings (Proverbs 15:1) and judge people less by seeing things from their points of view (Matthew 7:1-5).

5. Self/social-skill development: Develop the right level of rapport with people and be patient in your dealings with them (2 Timothy 2:24).

However, all the practical approaches mentioned above may not yield the expected result unless the believer yields first to the Holy Spirit who helps him/her respond differently to each of the three categories of emotion.

The Holy Spirit assists when we engage in holy responses.

He produces within us “the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

He comforts us when human emotions such as grief overwhelm us (John 14:10).

He helps us break the grip of fleshly emotions such as lust and revenge.

The Spirit wars against such impulses so that we cannot fully give way to our worst desires (Galatians 5:16-18).

Hence, the Holy Spirit becomes the source of our intelligence when we take heed of His promptings.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2:

Students should mention practical ways to control their emotions.

CONCLUSION: RCCG YAYA Sunday School Youth 6 May 2024

The power to defeat deep and difficult emotions comes from God and involves the human spirit coming into contact with God’s Spirit.

TOPIC: MEMORIES

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Samuel 17:33-37

33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

37 David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.

MEMORY VERSE:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8.

INTRODUCTION

Memories are events or experiences that happened in the past. God designed us each with memory -the capacity and capability of the human brain to store and retrieve past events.

The human memory is utilised continuously moment-by-moment to record what is going on In our lives even things done secretly.

This lesson shall highlight some facts about human memory and how believers should manage their memories.

OUTLINES:

  1. FACTS ABOUT HUMAN MEMORY
  2. MANAGING OUR MEMORIES

1. FACTS ABOUT HUMAN MEMORY

The human memory is involved in virtually almost what we do as humans:

1. It records what is ongoing in our lives, even mental images in our sleep (Genesis 41:1-8). Without it, we have no identity and purpose, and life will be meaningless.

2. It provides us with a source of the direction of what to do and how to do it through experience (1 Samuel 17: 33-37).

3. The capacity of the human brain (memory) is believed to be approximately 2.5 million gigabytes or 2,500 terabytes (2.5 petabytes). This storage device can store up to 300 years of continually recorded non-stop television video.

4. Unlike a hard disk drive, you cannot delete memory from your brain. If you stop thinking about certain memories and focus on others, they will slowly recede into the background. Some memories may not recede but are inaccessible, they are not entirely gone and could potentially be retrieved (Daniel 4.55-54. 50)

5. Memories are spiritual and part of our soul for instance; the martyrs could still recall how they were treated on earth (Revelation 6:9-10)

6. The entire body will decay in death but the memory and soul will remain.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1:

The class should recall any mighty act of God in their lives.

2. MANAGING OUR MEMORIES

Our memories can be pleasant or unpleasant which may be triggered by something we have seen or heard; or will just appear in our mind without a ‘trigger. However, as believers:

1. We should know what to dwell on and what to let go of (Philippians 4:8).

2. We should treasure things that are inspiring in our hearts. Be it prophecies revelation from the scriptures, and so on. One of the ways of doing this is by taking notes (Luke 2:19).

3. We should recall what the Lord has done; how he drew us unto repentance and salvation. His faithfulness, kindness, and so on (Ephesians 2:11-13)

This, in turn, provokes worship that glorifies God and brings strength, courage, hope and faith when we struggle with afflictions and oppositions (Psalm 8:1-4; 1 Samuel 17:36-37)

4. We should recall others in our prayers, be the unsaved family members, co-workers, or friends in tough situations (2 Timothy 1:3-5; Hebrews 13:3).

5. The painful memories we recall should be handed over to our Saviour who can pour out love and comfort, to restore our broken hearts (Psalm 116:3-5; Hebrews 4:15)

6. Everyone will one day be just “a memory.” We should live in such a way that we would leave the stage with a good memory of ourselves to encourage and inspire others after our death (Proverbs 10:7; Psalm 112:6).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2:

The class should discuss the effective ways to handle our memory to ensure that it works to glorify God only.

CONCLUSION: RCCG Sunday School Student Manual 5 May 2024

Humans have the power to store a vast amount of experiences throughout their lives, but as believers, we should know which to recall or to let go, to the glory of God.

  4. The flesh lusts against the Spirit ……….. v17.

The only way to be free from the bondage of the law is to be led by the Spirit.

TEACHING METHOD:

Lecture Method.

OUTLINES:

  1. CLASSIFICATION OF EMOTIONS
  2. MANAGING EMOTIONS

1. CLASSIFICATION OF EMOTIONS

We shall break down emotions into three classes for easy identification.

1. Holy Emotions – these are emotions expressed by God such as compassion (Psalm 78:38), and holy indignation (Deuteronomy 32:16).

a. Holy emotions can also accompany a believer’s life in the spirit in times of worship (Ephesians 5:19).

b. They are not necessarily religious or pious emotions. They are good and beautiful (Philippians 4:8).

2. Human Emotions – these are based on our human nature and situations

a. Jesus Christ expressed natural human emotions while on earth, for instance. He wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35).

B. However, all the practical approaches mentioned above may not yield the expected result unless the believer yields first to the Holy Spirit who helps him/her respond differently to each of the three categories of emotion.

C. The Holy Spirit assists when we engage in holy responses.

i. He produces within us “the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

ii. He comforts us when human emotions such as grief overwhelm us (John 14:10).

iii. He helps us break the grip of fleshly emotions such as lust and revenge.

iv: The Spirit wars against such impulses so that we cannot fully give way to our worst desires (Galatians 5:16-18).

v. Hence, the Holy Spirit becomes the source of our intelligence when we take heed of His promptings.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2:

Students should mention practical ways to control their emotions.

CONCLUSION: RCCG YAYA Sunday School Teacher Manual 5 May 2024

The power to defeat deep and difficult emotions comes from God and involves the human spirit coming into contact with God’s Spirit.

EVALUATION:

MESSAGE
There is something that I am never sluggish about – winning souls. When it comes to winning souls, I don’t joke around at all. This is because, from experience, one can never tell when an unsaved fellow will take his or her last breath.
When I got converted while still lecturing at the University of Lagos, I used every opportunity to preach to my friends, colleagues, professors, and students about Christ. I would organise Bible study sessions during lunch breaks and invite everyone to join us in church. At one point, people thought I was mad, but I was so concerned that if hell is not a good place to stay for one second, then the whole world must be warned about the danger.
The second coming of Jesus is closer than you think. If you are still living in sin, please take some time now to make your ways right with God. You must also evangelise to as many people as possible. Do not sleep a day without telling someone about Jesus.

ACTION POINT
Win at least one soul this week.
