OPEN HEAVEN 1 OCTOBER 2019 TUESDAY A CHURCH IN YOUR HOUSE?

OPEN HEAVEN 1 OCTOBER 2019 MEMORISE: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. – (Acts 2:46)

OPEN HEAVEN 1 OCTOBER 2019 READ: ACTS 10:34-44 (KJV)

34. Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons;

35. But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ; (he is Lord of all;)

37. That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree;

40. Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

41. Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

43. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

OPEN HEAVEN 1 OCTOBER 2019 MESSAGE WITH HYMN, PRAYER POINTS, DAILY DECLARATIONS AND BIBLE READING

Welcome to October!

No sickness, no procrastination, no anger, no malice, no going back to the world because October is your month in Jesus’ Name. Somebody shout hallelujah!

We often tend to forget that the Church of Jesus Christ started in a home setting (Acts 1:12-14). The family unit is indeed a sub-unit of the entire Church.

The home setting is therefore the best nursery to bring up your converts in the Lord, because at that level, it is easy to avoid hypocrisy, as everyone is familiar with everyone.

When the Holy Spirit asks the question that is today’s topic, He is actually asking us two things: are members of our households Christians, and do we have any fellowship of believers in our homes?

In other words, do you allow the gathering of God’s people in your house for the purpose of sharing the word, praying and caring for each other? It is important to ensure that all members of our family are born again.

The Lord considers His Church to be the totality of people who have given their lives to Him and are living according to His Father’s ideals (John 7:16-17).

We must therefore ensure that members of our household abide by His teachings.

Today’s memory verse describes the early Church’s communal way of life. The effect of this communal living was the expansion of the Church, which Acts 2:47 describes, saying;

Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved”.

Many people don’t know the tremendous blessings they deny themselves when they refuse to accommodate house fellowship centres in their homes.

Are such people not aware of the story of Obed-Edom, who by divine arrangement allowed the Ark of the Covenant to dwell in his house and subsequently received overflowing blessings? (2 Samuel 6:11) says:

And the Ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obed-Edom, and all his household”.

When King David heard of how the Lord had blessed Obed-Edom because of the presence of the ark in his house, he suddenly realized that he had pushed his blessings away to another by keeping the ark in Obed-Edom’s house.

Allowing your house to accommodate a gathering of people in Christ Name is therefore a wise thing to do.

In today’s Bible reading the Lord led Peter to the home of Cornelius to preach the gospel of salvation.

While he was still speaking, the Holy Spirit came upon the “service” holding in Cornelius house.

This was a manifestation of the fulfillment of Christ’s prophesy of a time when people will be able to worship God anywhere in Spirit and in truth (John 4:21?–24).

Church is where two or three people are gathered in Jesus’ Name, and Jesus Christ Himself will be there amongst them (Matthew 18:20).

Bring Jesus into your home by establishing a fellowship in your house and make sure members of your family are the first beneficiaries of the grace it brings.

OPEN HEAVEN 1 OCTOBER 2019 ACTION POINT:

Develop a powerful family prayer altar in your home, witness to your immediate neighbours and proceed further to establish a house fellowship centre in your home.

DANIEL 10:18-11:13 KJV

Chapter 10

18 Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,

19 And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.

21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

Chapter 11

1 Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him.

2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.

3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.

4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.

5 And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.

6 And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.

7 But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:

8 And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.

9 So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land.

10 But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, even to his fortress.

11 And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.

12 And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.

13 For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches.

OPEN HEAVEN 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 MONDAY THE PRINCIPLES OF GIVING

OPEN HEAVEN 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 MEMORISE: As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. – (2 Corinthians 8:15)

OPEN HEAVEN 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 READ: 2 CORINTHIANS 8:9-15 (KJV)

9. For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

10. And herein I give my advice; for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

11. Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

12. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

13. For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened;

14. But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want; that there may be equality;

15. As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

OPEN HEAVEN 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 MESSAGE WITH HYMN, PRAYER POINTS, DAILY DECLARATIONS AND BIBLE READING

Giving has always been a debated topic in Christendom. Nevertheless, irrespective of how controversial it has become today, it is still part of God’s mandate to us as Christians.

Several passage of the Bible clearly instruct us to give, and several more tell us how rewarding it is.

However, like many of God’s promises, there are principles to follow in order to reap its benefits.

The Holy Spirit wants us to consider some of these principles today so that we can begin to reap the full benefits of our giving.

The first principle of giving that you need to understand is that you must give your life to God first before giving Him a gift. God is not interested in your gift if you are not one of His children.

Speaking on this, the Holy Spirit says in Proverbs 15:8a:

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD;

Secondly, God expects us to give for the right reasons. The Lord said in Matthew 6:1:

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Most times when we give, we give to be admired by men. As Christians, we have to carefully consider our motive before we give.

If you check and find out that the reason you want to give is to be seen as rich or zealous by other people, then it is better to keep your offering to yourself, because God will not acknowledge such giving.

The third principle to consider is based on (2 Corinthians 9:6-7), which says:

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

As important as it is to give bountifully, it is also pertinent that you give cheerfully. Whatever you give, do it with a cheerful heart and disposition.

Beloved, in order not to lose your reward, ensure that your every act of giving is consciously done to satisfy all the principles required.

May God honour you and your gifts from today in Jesus’ Name.

OPEN HEAVEN 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 HYMNAL: HYMN 4 – TAKE MY LIFE, AND LET IT BE

1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine:
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

OPEN HEAVEN 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 KINGS 24-25, DANIEL 10:1-17

2 Kings 24-25 King James Version (KJV)

Chapter 24

1 In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years: then he turned and rebelled against him.

2 And the Lord sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servants the prophets.

3 Surely at the commandment of the Lordcame this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;

4 And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the Lord would not pardon.

5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

6 So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.

7 And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that pertained to the king of Egypt.

8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother’s name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

9 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done.

10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged.

11 And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his servants did besiege it.

12 And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.

13 And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord, as the Lord had said.

14 And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.

15 And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king’s mother, and the king’s wives, and his officers, and the mighty of the land, those carried he into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.

16 And all the men of might, even seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths a thousand, all that were strong and apt for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

17 And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father’s brother king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

18 Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

19 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

20 For through the anger of the Lord it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

Chapter 25

1 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about.

2 And the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.

3 And on the ninth day of the fourth month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land.

4 And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between two walls, which is by the king’s garden: (now the Chaldees were against the city round about:) and the king went the way toward the plain.

5 And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho: and all his army were scattered from him.

6 So they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon him.

7 And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.

8 And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which is the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, unto Jerusalem:

9 And he burnt the house of the Lord, and the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great man’s house burnt he with fire.

10 And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard, brake down the walls of Jerusalem round about.

11 Now the rest of the people that were left in the city, and the fugitives that fell away to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, did Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carry away.

12 But the captain of the guard left of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and husbandmen.

13 And the pillars of brass that were in the house of the Lord, and the bases, and the brasen sea that was in the house of the Lord, did the Chaldees break in pieces, and carried the brass of them to Babylon.

14 And the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass wherewith they ministered, took they away.

15 And the firepans, and the bowls, and such things as were of gold, in gold, and of silver, in silver, the captain of the guard took away.

16 The two pillars, one sea, and the bases which Solomon had made for the house of the Lord; the brass of all these vessels was without weight.

17 The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the chapiter upon it was brass: and the height of the chapiter three cubits; and the wreathen work, and pomegranates upon the chapiter round about, all of brass: and like unto these had the second pillar with wreathen work.

18 And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door:

19 And out of the city he took an officer that was set over the men of war, and five men of them that were in the king’s presence, which were found in the city, and the principal scribe of the host, which mustered the people of the land, and threescore men of the people of the land that were found in the city:

20 And Nebuzaradan captain of the guard took these, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah:

21 And the king of Babylon smote them, and slew them at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away out of their land.

22 And as for the people that remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, ruler.

23 And when all the captains of the armies, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, there came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of Careah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

24 And Gedaliah sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you.

25 But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.

26 And all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose, and came to Egypt: for they were afraid of the Chaldees.

27 And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison;

28 And he spake kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon;

29 And changed his prison garments: and he did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life.

30 And his allowance was a continual allowance given him of the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life.

DANIEL 10:1-17

1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;

5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:

6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.

7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.

10 And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.

11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

15 And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.

16 And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.

17 For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 29 SEPTEMBER 2019

THEME: PROCRASTINATION

MEMORISE: He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. Ecclesiastes 11:4

Read: Luke 9:59-61

59. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

60. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

61. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.

MESSAGE:

Procrastination is the younger brother to laziness.

When you postpone a task that you should do now to a later time, you are procrastinating.

Has God been asking you to preach the gospel to someone but you are procrastinating?

Make sure you look for the fellow and preach to them immediately because you can never tell what will happen to the unsaved soul in the next minute

The story of the young man that our Lord Jesus Christ called to follow Him in the Bible reading of today shows that procrastination not allowed in the kingdom of God.

It is sad that most students procrastinate with their studies. Some wait till when it is a few days to exams before they start studying, when they get to the exam hall and mix answers to questions up, they will say it is the work of the devil.

Those who read from the beginning of the classes till exams day always come out in flying colours.

Those who also do their assignments immediately it is given rather than on the morning of submission also always pass. Procrastination is a major path to failure.

KEY POINT:

Remember that nursery rhyme that says “tick, tick says the time, what you have to do, do quickly.” Whatever you have to do, don’t delay in doing it.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 16-18, Ephesians 1

Hymn 14

1. O spread the tidings ’round,
Wherever man is found,
Wherever human hearts and
Human woes abound.
Let every Christian tongue
Proclaim the joyful sound:
The Comforter has come!

Chorus:

The Comforter has come!
The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heav’n,
The Father’s Promise giv’n,
O spread the tidings ’round,
Wherever man is found:
The Comforter has come!

2. The long, long night is past;
The morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail
And fury of the blast,
As o’er the golden hills
The day advances fast!
The Comforter has come!

3. Lo, the great Kings of Kings,
With healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full
Deliv’rance brings;
And thro’ the vacant cells
The song of triumph rings;
The Comforter has come!

4. O boundless love divine!
How shall this tongue of mine
To wond’ring mortals tell
The matchless grace divine-
That I, a child of hell,
Should in His image shine?
The Comforter has come!

TOPIC: THE SPIRIT OF GLORY (HOLY SPIRIT)

MEMORY VERSE:
Acts 2:1 – “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”

BIBLE TEXT: Acts 2:1-4

1. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

CENTRAL TRUTH: The Holy Spirit is the third person in trinity and He is also the Spirit of Glory.

INTRODUCTION: Jesus made it clear that God will send a helper for us. The helper is the Holy Spirit. But many find it difficult to understand who the Holy Spirit really is.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity, but what does that mean? Where did the Holy Spirit come from?

Is He always with me? How does He help? This lesson is meant to teach you in the depth of who the Holy Spirit truly is and why God sent him.

STUDY GUIDE:

A. WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to His disciples with these words:
– when the Spirit of Truth comes
– He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears.
– He will also declare to you what is to come. – John 16:13
– …………………………..……………………..1 John 5:7

B. WHAT ARE THE BASIC TRUTHS ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT?
1. ……………………………………………Genesis 1:2
2. ……………………………………………1 Cor.2:10-11
3. ………………………………………..…Psalm139:7-10
4. Surveillance cameras are common today. When we enter a bank we see cameras. So, God`s Spirit observes everywhere we go and is sensitive to our every thought and action.

C. WHAT ARE THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
1. He gives life – John 7:38
2. He gives gifts – 1Cor. 12
3. He counsels – John 14:26
4. …………………………………………….Acts 9:3
5. …………………………………………….Romans 8:23
6. …………………………………………….Romans 8:27
7. ……………………………………………2 Cor. 3:5
8. ……………………………………………1John 2:20-27
9. He energizes and makes effective – Acts 1:8
10. …………………………………………………………..

LIFE APPLICATION: The Holy Spirit is the power of every believer. Peter is the proof of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. He was a very close follower of Jesus yet afraid that he denied Him, but as soon as he received the Holy Spirit, he became very bold. For you to live a victorious Christian life you need the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION: The Holy Spirit plays a key role in the Acts of apostles; without the Holy Spirit, it will be practically difficult for any believer to progress in the work of ministry.

INVITATION: Without Jesus you cannot have the Holy Spirit. Receive Jesus as your saviour. – John 1:12.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL:

SUNDAY : John 5:41-47
MONDAY : John 6:1-10
TUESDAY : John 6:11-15
WEDNESDAY : John 6:16-24
THURSDAY : John 6:25-32
FRIDAY John : 6:33-40
SATURDAY :John 6:41-52

DEVOTIONAL GUIDE:

Set aside a regular, definite time: You may want to do it before you leave for school each morning. You may have it when you come from school or you may have it at bedtime.

Find a quiet place, free from disturbances, where you can be alone with God. The Lord Jesus often got up very early in the morning to be alone with God.

But He found other times in the day or night when He could do this too (Matthew 14:23; Mark 1:35; Luke 6:12).

You should choose a time that best suits you and it is the same time each day, so that it becomes a good important in your life.

PRAYER: Begin with a short prayer. Ask God to help you understand what He wants to say to you. “Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.” Psalm 119:18

READ: Read the bible passage for the day.

THINK: Think about what you have just read.

PRAY: Pray about what you have read.

WRITE: Write something down in your note book.

LEARN: Learn something from the bible passage.

OBEY: Obey what you have learnt.

MEMORY VERSE:

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. — Romans 8:15

BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 8:15-17.

Romans:8.15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Romans:8.16
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Romans:8.17
and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with [Him,] that we may also be glorified together.

INTRODUCTION:

Read – Open Heavens 29th Sept 2019

Spiritual adoption is an act of God’s grace by which He brings men into the number one of His redeemed family and make them partakers of all the blessings He has provided for them.

Adoption represents the new relations into which the believer is introduced by justification (Romans 8:29; 8:15) contrasts two spirits: an impersonal “spirit of bondage” or “spirit of slavery” and the Holy Spirit, called here “the Spirit of adoption”.

The bible presents a high view of adoption and uses it to parallel the relationship God wants to have with us (2Corinthians 6:17-18).

There are privileges connected with being adopted by God which every child of God must not just be conversant with but also enjoy (John 15:15).

LESSON OUTLINES

1. Spirit of adoption versus spirit of slavery

2. benefits of adoption

SPIRIT OF ADOPTION VERSUS SPIRIT OF SLAVERY

God has made spiritual adoption possible faith in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16-18; 1:12; 14:6; Romans 8:14).

Based on our faith and confession of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord (Romans 10:9-10), God adopts us into His eternal family.

We receive the Spirit of adoption when we accept, by faith, the grace that has been offered to us in Christ (Ephesians 1:5; Romans 8:23; Luke 10:27).

It is the Spirit of adoption who teaches us to call out to God as our “Abba, Father” (Matthew 6:9).

BENEFITS OF ADOPTION

The Spirit of adoption makes us joint-heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17) which allows us to “come boldly before the throne of grace” (Hebrews 4:16) as a beloved child runs to his father in times of trouble.

Because of the Spirit of adoption, we can enjoy serving God without fear or obligation. Other benefits include enjoying God’s peculiar love (John 17:23; Romans 5:5-8); a spiritual nature (2Peter 1:4; John 1:13); divine protection, guidance, consolation, comfort, supplies and peace (Luke 12:27-32; John 14:18; 16:13; 2Corinthians 1:4; Romans 5:1); fatherly chastisements (Hebrews 12:5-11) and a future glorious inheritance (Romans 8:17,23; James 2:5; Philippians 3:21).

CONCLUSION

In spite of being born again through faith in Christ’s sacrifice for their sins (John 3:3), some believers still cling to a spirit of slavery, never realising the freedom that is theirs with the Spirit of adoption.

Stand firm in the liberty wherein Christ has made you free (Galatians 5:1; John 8:33). You are a son&daughter of God, not a slave.

QUESTIONS
1. Distinguish between the Spirit of adoption and the spirit of slavery.

2. Mention four benefits of adoption.

TOPIC: THE POWER IN WORSHIP AND PRAISE

MEMORY VERSE:

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. – 2Chronicles 20:22

TEXT: 2 Chronicles 20:1-4; 13-28

1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.

3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

13 And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper.

21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for His mercy endureth for ever.

22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

Praise and worship brings down the presence of God. Praise and worship is vital for any intimate relationship with God.

In 2Chronicles 20:3 Jehoshaphat and the people had exhausted the option of fasting and prayers to bring down the presence of God until the spirit of God fell on Jahaziel in 2Chron.20:14.

WHEN CAN THE POWER OF PRAISE COME DOWN?

The power of praise and worship is released when:

1. Your enemies rise against you.

2. When those you trust conspire to destroy you.

3. When there is fear and confusion in your family and business.

4. When you have fastened and prayed and heard nothing.

5. When the Holy Spirit announces to you to praise and worship God

6. When the battle is beyond your capacity, comprehension and understanding.

7. When it is the Lord´s battle.

CONCLUSION:
There are some battles that require the release of the power of praise and worship to be won. In the scripture, these are usually the most difficult or fiercest battles. The power of praise and worship makes God to arise from His exalted throne. He inhabits the praise and then scatters the enemies as seen in our text today.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Father, thank you because you gave me the mouth primarily to praise you.

2. Father, as I begin to praise and worship your name, please release the host of heaven to fight my battles.

3. Father, please teach me to be able to know when to apply praise and worship to my battles in Jesus name.

4. Praise Him the next five minutes.

GOLDEN DIET FOR THE WEEK (print or write it out so that you can participate daily):

MONDAY: 2Chronicles 20:13-18; 2Chronicles13:14-16 – Battles vary: find out if your own requires praise and worship.

TUESDAY: Joshua 6:20 – Praise and worship is the key for difficult doors like the wall of Jericho. Apply it today.

WEDNESDAY: Psalm 22:3; 1Kings 18:36-37 – The power of praise and worship is the only food you give to God; all others are counting on us.

THURSDAY: Psalm 22:3; Genesis 17:3 – It takes something for God to arise and scatter your enemies. Give or pay the price today.

FRIDAY: 2Chronicles 20:13-18 – Jehoshaphat prayed and fastened with the people, but God said he should praise and worship Him.

SATURDAY: Exodus 15:11; 1Samuel 2:2 – Do not take the spirit that calls for praise and worship for granted. It comes with power for victory.

SUNDAY: Joshua 6:20 – Praise and worship the Lord today: He might just be taking you to your valley of Barachah/Valley of spoils of war.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 28 SEPTEMBER 2019

THEME: LAZINESS

MEMORISE:

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. Proverbs 10:4

Read: Proverbs 24:30-34

30. I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31. And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

32. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

33. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

34. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

No genuine child of God should ever be lazy. Jesus said His Father works and He works; like Father like Son.

If you are lazy, I wonder if you are really a child of God. In my house, no child can be be lazy.

There was a time one of my sons who was, as of then, very young wanted a new shoe for the first convention on Redemption Camp and he approached my wife.

My wife asked him to go to the arena which was under construction and work for the money to buy the shoe.

The young man took it as a challenge and went to carry cement, got paid and when he had saved enough money, he got the shoe.

Laziness is a worm that would eat into every aspect of your life; your academics, your walk with God, et cetera and make you a failure in all these areas.

If you are not lazy, you I’ll do what you ought to do at the right time, you won’t just sit at home watching movies or catching up with gist on social media. Hard work pays.

It doesn’t matter how rich a person’s parents are, if he is lazy, serious poverty is waiting for him because it takes hard work to maintain wealth.

KEY POINT:

Laziness has many consequences while hard work has many benefits, choose wisely.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 13-15, Galatians 6

Hymn 5
1. Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the Royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banners go!

Chorus
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

2. At the Sign of triumph
Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

4. Onward, then, ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, praise and honour,
Unto Christ the King;
This, through countless ages
Men and angels sing.
