Atheism is simply the absolute denial of God’s existence. Who then is a practical atheist?

It is he or she who theoretically believes in God but in practice leads a life that denies His existence. These are the type of people described in today’s memory verse.

How do we know practical atheists in our midst today? Jesus said we shall know them by their fruits (Matthew 7:20).

Apostle Paul in today’s Bible reading lists some of the characteristic traits of practical atheist, summed up in their denial of the power to live a godly life in this world.

Practical atheist believe that holiness is an illusion and teach others to believe so too, thereby causing people to live a lifestyle of sin.

Unfortunately, they have crept into the Church and have succeeded in leading people astray. They are deadly in the sense that they appear to be religious and well-informed, but their conduct contradicts their claim of faith.

In (2 Timothy 3:7-8), the Bible describes them in the following terms:
“Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.”

Practical atheists are found among great Church men and women who use the cover of their successes in ministry to peddle heresies as sound superior teachings.

As stated in (2 Timothy 3:8), they are like Jannes and Jambres, who withstood Moses by displaying magical powers to counter the miracles Moses performed in a bid to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites go (Exodus 7:11-12, Exodus 7:22).

Although practical atheists tend to have knowledge through extensive learning, they never come to the knowledge of the truth which sets free from living a life of sin (John 8:32).

Some of them are like the Pharisees and Scribes of old just as Jesus questioned Nicodemus, a professor of the law, he is asking such people today;

“Didn’t you claim you have a Master’s degree or PhD in theology, and yet you don’t know that without holiness no man shall see the Lord?

You say you’re a professor of religious history, and yet you don’t know that I am the same yesterday, today and forever?
Don’t you know that My standards cannot be changed by modern society?’’

Mere believe in God is not enough; we must live according to His standards. Even demons believe in the existence of the one true God but that hasn’t changed who they really are (James 2:19). From now on, let your life always conform to your beliefs.

3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

3 And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.

5 And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:

6 The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.

46 Thus saith the Lord God; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

2 And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without, and shall stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening.

I have noticed that it has become common trend with teenagers to conceal their spiritual gifts.

Everyone who expresses their gift gets more and is rewarded (Matthew 25:28-29). While those who don’t use their gift end up in outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 25:30)

This is what so many of you young ones do. You have been given the gift to see visions, prophesy, speak in tongues and interpret.

Yet you hold back because you don’t want to be tagged a ‘spiricoco’. The gift of the Holy Spirit was not given to you just for the sake of it; you are meant to use it for the benefit of others people.

If for example, God tells you about an impending danger on a fellow and you refuse to tell the fellow, if the danger eventually happens, it would be your fault.

At least, for the benefit of others around you, express your gift.

PRAYER POINT:
Oh God, give me the grace to rightly express my gift.

Praise the Lord without limit. He will amaze you before the end of this month, in Jesus’ Name.

In the Nigerian culture, musicians hired to entertain guests at parties often compose songs hailing wealthy and notable people in attendance, calling out their names and listing their exploits.

As the musicians go on, these rich fellows find themselves on stage in excitement, pasting cash on the singer’s forehead.

Needless to say, these musicians often go home with a bag full of money after such parties, unless they did not celebrate the right people well enough.

In like manner, I have discovered that those who have the attitude of praising God live in abundance.

Even when the rich men at these parties don’t know the performing musician personally, they are willing to give him or her all they have in their pockets in return for receiving praise; how much more our God, who not only knows us from our mother’s womb but also loves us.

Most of the time, these musicians have lie or at least exaggerate in a bid to praise a rich fellow. For example, they can call someone who is a branch management the chief operating officer of a company.

However, with our God, He is so great that no matter how hard we try to exalt His greatness, our words cannot fully capture how great He really is.

During praise and worship sessions at church services, when I see people dancing as if they were dragged to church, I wonder if they know who they are dancing to at all. He is the one who made the heavens and the earth.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN FOR TODAY 4TH SEPTEMBER 2019

He sits in the heavens and makes the earth His footstool. He parted the Red Sea, turned water to wine, raised the dead back to life and done all sorts of great miracles, and yet some people still find it difficult to praise Him with all their heart.

David was someone who knew how to praise God. One day, he danced for God so much that his clothes fell off his body, still he didn’t mind (2 Samuel 6:20).

When you read through the Psalms, you will understand why David praised God that much: God had done a lot for him and he decided never to forget His goodness towards him.

In return, God blessed David so much that he was willing to give David whatever he wanted; all he had to do was ask. (2 Samuel 12:8) says:

“And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.”

David was indeed a blessed man. You also can be blessed as he was if only you are willing to praise God like he did.

It is a very good and honourable thing to work for God, however, we must ask ourselves regularly,

When your motive for doing God’s work is wrong, it will affect the value that you offer to Him.

Are you a choir member just because you want to show everyone that you are a good singer?

If you are an instrumentalist who gists outside the church while sermon is going on, you are not offering good value to God.

The spiritual quality of your playing the instruments is dependent on the spiritual food that you consume.

Don’t serve Him with an ulterior motive, rather, serve Him with all your heart.

Lord you are my safe refuge I thank you for always guiding and protecting me throughout the beginning of this 9th month.

Jehovah thank you for your loving kindness and mercy that speaks over judgement and forgiveness of my sin in Jesus name

Lord have your way in me this day, take preeminence over all that I will be doing in Jesus name

King of glory fill my life, let my life portray more of your glory in this world in Jesus name

Father grant me grace to be more like you and live a life that will draw souls to you in Jesus name

I decree wherever the sole of my feet step on I claim it to the glory of God in Jesus name

I decree my steps are ordered therefore I will never be at the wrong place at the wrong time or the right place at the wrong time in Jesus name
