THEME: SELF CONTROL

MEMORISE: Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. 1 Corinthians 9:25

READ: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

MESSAGE

READ – OPEN HEAVEN 11 AUGUST 2019

An attribute needed by the person that will please God is self control. If you are told not to put on the television for example and you begin to throw tantrums, then you have no self control.

If you are reading and you hear your phone beep, then you pick it up to see the message and find yourself browsing through social medial for the next 30 minutes, then you have no self control.

Just like every athlete needs to be disciplined to succeed in any game, without self control, nobody can succeed at anything.

READ – PRAYER POINTS FOR OPEN HEAVENS 11 AUGUST 2019

You need to be able to control yourself to read when others are gesting.

You need self control concerning your crush on that boy/girl because you know dating is not good.

Control your tongue, control your eyes, control your thoughts, control your feelings.

READ – DAILY DECLARATIONS 11TH AUGUST 2019

If you cannot put yourself under control, the devil will use the things around to control you.

Proverbs 25:28 says that anyone that cannot control himself is like a city without walls; all sorts of junk will find rest inside such a person.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, give me the grace to have self control.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Psalm 90-92, Romans 11:1-21

Hymn 6
1. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home:

2. Under the shadow of your throne
Your saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is your arm alone,
And our defense is sure

3. Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received its frame,
From everlasting you are God,
To endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in your sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream
Does at the opening day.

6. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home!

TOPIC: REWARDS

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at thy birth

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

OPENING PRAYER:

Father, help me to be faithful to the end to obtain glorious rewards.

BIBLE PASSAGE:

1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 24-27

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

MEMORY VERSE:

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 2 Corinthians 4:17

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

i. Teacher should find out from students what they understand by glories in heaven which await believers.

ii. Teacher should explain the following glories which truly born again believers are to expect:

a. To be with Christ on the last day (John 14:3). Everyone is happy to be in the presence of the King of kings.

b. To behold his face (Psalms 17:15). What a glory it will be just to be able to gaze at that wonderful face. (Rev. 22:4).

c. To behold the glory of Christ (John 17:24). We shall not only behold His face but also His glory. The disciples saw a glimpse of this glory on the mount of transfiguration. We shall see in full when we get to heaven.

d. To be glorified with Christ (Rom. 8:17-18). We are not just to behold his glory but we are to be glorified too. We do not know this means actually means but it is surely going to be marvelously wonderful.

e. To reign with Christ (Rom. 8:17-18). We shall reign with the King of kings. In Matt. 25:20-23; in the parable of the talents, the faithful ones were made rulers over many things.

f. To inherit all things (Rev. 21:7). Not some things but all things.

g. To shine as the stars (Dan. 12:3). As believers, we should increase the rate at which we are winning souls for Christ.

b. Crowns for soul winners (1 Thess 2:19). It is called the crown of rejoicing

c. Crowns for anticipators, that is, those who are expecting the Lord’s return (2 Tim. 4:8). This is called the crown of righteousness. Every believer should watch out for Christ second coming to win this crown.

d. Crowns for the faithful ones (James 1:12). This is called the crown of life. The conditions for winning this crown include: Enduring temptation, love for God and faithfulness unto death. Rev. 2:10.

e. Crowns for the true shepherd (1 Peter 5:1-4). This is called the crown of glory. It is for elders, pastors, missionaries and teachers who perform their duties faithfully.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: How can believers increase their crowns?

SUMMARY: There are rewards fr believers’ exploits of faith.

CONCLUSION:

It is possible to earn a crown and then lose it again (Rev. 3:11). Would that not be a terrible tragedy? May God grant that it will not happen to us.

EVALUATION: What are the glories and crowns which await believers who endure to the end?

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, help me to endure to the end so that I may obtain my rewards.

ASSIGNMENT: Differentiate between earthly and heavenly glories.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 AUGUST 2019 SUNDAY – BE CONTENTED

OPEN HEAVEN 11 AUGUST 2019 MEMORISE:
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife. – (Proverbs 17:1)

OPEN HEAVEN 11 AUGUST 2019 READ: 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-11 (KJV)

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

One virtue that is gradually being eroded from the lives of 21st century Christians is contentment, and because contentment and godliness are actually inseparable twins (1 Timothy 6:6), it is therefore not surprising that there is also a death of godliness amongst us.

The cure to this deficiency in the body of Christ is the consistent teaching of God’s word on contentment.

I therefore encourage all teacher of God’s word to arm themselves with the sword of the Spirit in this regard and combat this issue in the church.

We can learn a lot on contentment from our Lord Jesus Christ. Even though He created the whole universe, He was content to be born into a family that could only afford a manger as His birth place (Luke 2:7)!

He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, yet his earthly parent could only afford to sacrifice two pigeons at the time of his dedication in the temple (Luke 2:22-24, Leviticus 12:8).

The Holy Spirit also teaches us contentment in Ecclesiastes 5:10-12, which says:

10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

12 The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

The Holy Spirit is saying here that no matter how rich a person is, there will always be the urge to run after more wealth in an endless vicious circle, unless he or she has contentment from God.

He also says that as we labour to accumulate more money, we might actually be labouring for people we do not know, who will consume what we have laboured for and might not even say “thank you” after eating of our sweat.

READ – OPEN HEAVEN 10 AUGUST 2019

When you consider the rich people in your country, I believe you can point to several hundred of families who legitimately and illegitimately benefit from their labours and sleepless night spent in accumulating wealth.

What good have those stolen billions done for the bodies of those who loot the treasury of their countries, not to mention their souls?

A poor labourer who has contentment will always have an appetite to eat the modest food available and eat them at night.

Conversely, rich people without contentment do not sleep well, because they are always thinking of how to accumulate more riches and how not to lose what they already have to those out to cheat them.

For this reason, many of them are always suspicious of the people around them, seeing everyone as cheats.

Beloved, seek the Lord today if you want to enjoy life in abundance, and be content with the blessings He bestows on you.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 AUGUST 2019 HYMNAL: HYMN 5 – LET OTHERS SEE JESUS IN YOU

1. While passing thro’ this world of sin,
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within;
Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS:
Let others see Jesus in you.
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

2. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it thro’ and thro’
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?

CHORUS:
Let others see Jesus in you.
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
And lead the lost to life and light;
Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS:

Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 AUGUST 2019 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 SAMUEL 10-11 & EZEKIEL 32:16-28

1 SAMUEL 10-11 KING JAMES VERSION (KJV)

CHAPTER 10

10 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

14 And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

15 And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

17 And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh;

18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22 Therefore they enquired of the Lordfurther, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the Lord hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

CHAPTER 11

1 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

2 And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

3 And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.

4 Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

5 And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

8 And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

9 And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

10 Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

11 And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

12 And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the Lord hath wrought salvation in Israel.

14 Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

EZEKIEL 32:16-28 KING JAMES VERSION

16 This is the lamentation wherewith they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, saith the Lord God.

17 It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

18 Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.

19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.

20 They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.

21 The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

22 Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:

23 Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.

24 There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.

25 They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that be slain.

26 There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.

27 And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, which are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

28 Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with them that are slain with the sword

THEME: UNDERESTIMATING PRAYER.

MEMORISE:

3.Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

4.Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

5.Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. Philippians 3:4-6

Read: 1 John 5:14-15

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

MESSAGE

In this world of practicality, many people have greatly underestimated the power of prayers.

This is a pity because they have no idea what they are missing when they relegate prayer to just a sport.

Read – Open Heaven 9 August 2019

Many people think that prayer is a spiritual thing and foes not have any effect on physical things.

There is nothing farther from the truth than this. As unreasonable as it may sound, the truth is, the spiritual controls the physical and prayer is the key into the spiritual.

A man died and left Hus wife with plenty of debt to pay to a foreign company. She cane to me crying because she had no means of paying the debt. We prayed a simple prayer.

The next week, that company wrote a letter to her saying they had made a mistake and they were the ones owing her husband money.

If you truly knew the power of prayer, you should pray always.

REFLECTION :

How often do you pray?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Psalm 85-87, Romans 9

Hymn 16

1. Christian, seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.

2. Principalities and power
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray

3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.

4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.

5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.

6. Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
