Open Heaven For Teens 5 December 2023 Bible Reading Matthew 18:23-35

[23]Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
[24]And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
[25]But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

[26]The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

[27]Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
[28]But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
[29]And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
[30]And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
[31]So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
[32]Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

[33]Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

[34]And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
[35]So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEEANS 4 DECEMBER 2023 MESSAGE

We live in a judgmental world where people pass judgement on offenders as though they would have done better if found in the same circumstance.

It’s un-Christian to do that.
The story in today’s Bible passage shows a servant who owed his master some money.

The master had mercy on him when he begged to be pardoned and told him to forget about paying the debt.
However, this same servant went ahead to punish the person owing him a smaller amount of money than what he owed his own master.
The master heard of it and punished him severely till he paid the debt he had earlier forgiven him of.
The question is, are you like this servant?
Mercy is an attribute of God. Imagine if God punished us for every mistake we made, who would be left in this world?
So, has anyone offended you and you have vowed never to forgive them?

You need to show mercy today so that you too can receive mercy.

HYMN 21 – I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS
1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak,
2. I want to be like Jesus,

So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there.
3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.”
5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call.
6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEEANS 4 DECEMBER 2023 MESSAGE

Procrastination is a sibling to laziness; it means delaying in carrying out an action or particular task.
It is not good at all; as matter of fact, both laziness and procrastination have equal weight in punishment.
You should not procrastinate studying or reading your books.
Some students wait till a few days to their exams before they start studying.
This often results in illness, difficulty in recalling what was read during the exam, and sometimes, a mix-up in answering questions.
These and other consequences could have beer avoided if they had made a habit of studying daily.
Some children of God don’t procrastinate in their studies or chores but do in their service to God particularly in sharing the gospel.
This is risky because you never can tell what will happen to the unsaved soul around you in the next minute.
The story of the young man that our Lord Jesus Christ called to follow Him in today’s passage shows that procrastination is not allowed in the Kingdom of God.
So, whether it’s a chore, an errand, or a service, don’t delay in doing it.

HYMN 15 – ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS
1. Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before;
Christ, the Royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banners go.
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before.
2. At the name of Jesus
Satan’s host doth Ilee;
On then, Christian soldiers
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise.
3. Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God:
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod.
We are not divided,
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.
4. Crowns and thrones may perish
Kingdoms rise and wane;
But the Church of Jesus
Constant will remain:
Gates of hell can never
‘Gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise-
And that cannot fail.
5. Onward then, ye people,
Join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song:
“Glory, praise and honour,
Unto Christ the King”,
This, through countless ages,
Men and angels sing.

OPEN HEAVEN 5 DECEMBER 2023 MESSAGE

In our Bible reading for today, when Paul was in a storm and had a visitation from an angel, he said to those around him:

And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.
Acts 27:22

I tell people that I have three kinds of children: tertiary children, secondary children and primary children.

Practically everybody in Nigeria calls me Daddy. Those are tertiary children.

An emir of a town in Nigeria wrote me a letter and started the letter by saying “Dear Daddy”.

If a Pastor is Daddy to emirs, clearly, those are tertiary children.

I also have secondary children. These are General Overseers of other denominations who love me.

Finally, I have primary children: these are members of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, and I always boast that the same divine insurance policy that covers me covers them.

The same angelic protection I get is what they get too, just like Paul when he was in the storm we read about in our Bible reading today

A few years ago, while in Zambia on our way to a programme, a police escort rode ahead of us to help clear the traffic, but got hit by a car that crushed the motorcycle beyond repair and flung the policeman across the road.

The policeman was picked up dead.

I felt terrible. I said “My Daddy, this young man is with me; he is on my team, clearing traffic for me. Please save him”.

If it were our own Church programme, I would have turned back, but I didn’t want to disappoint the people who invited me all the way from Nigeria so I went on to the programme.

All the while, my mind was on the policeman. After the programme, I enquired after the policeman and was told that he had come back to life – no broken bone or scratch on his body at all.

That day, I saw clearly, God’s group insurance policy in action.

If the devil tries to touch any of your loved ones, call on God to cover them with the same insurance policy with which He covers you and He will answer you.

38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Happy new week Beloved, kindly share these life-changing messages, prayers, and declarations with the precious people around you.

OPEN HEAVEN 4 DECEMBER 2023 MESSAGE

Intimacy with God should be your greatest heart’s desire.

The desire for power to work miracles must be secondary compared to the desire to be intimate with Him.

Believe me honestly, if you focus on intimacy with God, signs and wonders will follow effortlessly.

In Luke 10:19-20, after Jesus had given His disciples authority over all the powers of the enemy, He told them not to rejoice in that fact, but rather that their names were written in Heaven.

God prefers for you to be close to Him than that you have power to do His work.

In our Bible reading for today, when Jesus went to visit the two sisters, Martha was occupied with serving Him, while Mary sat at His feet, spending quality time with Him.

Martha thought she was doing the right thing and told Jesus to instruct her sister to join her, but He told her that Mary had done the one needful thing, which is to spend time at His feet.

He said further, “Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Someone can take a position in Church away from you or even deprive you of the opportunity to serve God in a particular area, but no one can take your intimacy with God away from you.

That is what you should guide more than anything else. According to Jesus Christ Himself, that is the one needful thing.

When Jesus was on the cross, in great pain, being mocked by people who hated Him, He kept hanging on to life.

When He no longer felt the presence of God and at that point, even with all the pain, He cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46-50).

He bore all the pain and shame, but could not bear to be separated from God.

Beloved, Intimacy with God must be your priority, above all else. God desires to build intimacy with his children.

He is seeking those who will worship him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24) and not just those who are seeking what they can get from him.

TODAY’S LESSON

BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 19:1-6

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

INTRODUCTION

“Glossa” is a Greek word meaning an unknown tongue. According to Jesus Christ, the ability to speak with new tongues shall be one of the signs that follow those who believe in Him (Mark 16:17).

While believers receive the Holy Spirit at the point of conversion (Acts 2:38), they are expected to continue to thirst and hunger for the infilling of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:29).

The ability to speak in an unknown tongue is one of the outward (physical) evidence of the overflow of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer (Acts 2:4).

In this lesson, we shall attempt to some of the puzzling questions about speaking in an tongue and its benefits.

OUTLINES:

1. SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE

2. BENEFITS OF SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE

1. SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE

A. The ability to speak in an unknown tongue, as well as the gift of diverse kinds of tongues, is given by the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).

i. It is distinctive of the present Holy Spirit dispensation and it began with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-5).

ii. It is not to be bought with money or learned (Acts 8:18-20)

iii. Every believer is expected to speak in an unknown tongue as evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-6).

B. When a believer speaks in an unknown tongue:

i. He speaks mysteries (unto God) which cannot be understood by men (1 Corinthians 14:2),

ii. God can speak, however, through one with the gift of diverse kinds of tongues to men with interpretations where necessary (Acts 2:4-6).

iii. Speaking in an unknown tongue is for self-edification (1 Corinthians 14:4).

iv. It should be engaged in regularly (1 Corinthians 14:18).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1:

Students mention instances in the Bible where the gift of the unknown tongue was foretold.

2. BENEFITS OF SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE

Teachers should let students mention some of the benefits they have derived from speaking in an unknown tongue and guide them with the under-listed.

The following are some of the benefits of speaking in an unknown tongue:

The ability to speak in an unknown tongue, as well as the gift of diverse kinds of tongues, is given by the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).

It is distinctive of the present Holy Spirit dispensation and it began with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-5).

It is not to be bought with money or learned (Acts 8:18-20)

Every believer is expected to speak in an unknown tongue as evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-6).

When a believer speaks in an unknown tongue, he speaks mysteries (unto God) which cannot be understood by men (1 Corinthians 14:2),

However, God can speak, however, through one with the gift of diverse kinds of tongues to men with interpretations where necessary (Acts 2:4-6).

Speaking in an unknown tongue is for self-edification (1 Corinthians 14:4) and it should be engaged in regularly (1 Corinthians 14:18).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1:

Students mention instances in the Bible where the gift of the unknown tongue was foretold.

2. BENEFITS OF SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE

1. It improves a believer’s prayer life: The supernatural ability to communicate with God effectively and intercede others well (Romans. 8:26; 1 Corinthians 14:2).

2. Self-edification: it stirs up a believer’s faith (Jude 20).

3. It is a means of yielding our tongue to God. No man can tame the tongue but God (James. 3:8). By the Holy Spirit, the whole body can change, including the tongue.

4. It a weapon of spiritual warfare (1 Corinthians 14:2).
