OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEEN 18 NOVEMBER 2018 – THERE FOR A REASON

MEMORISE: …and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Please read: Esther 4:10-14

MESSAGE

In Esther 2:13-17, so many young and beautiful virgins entered in for a beauty pageant and Esther emerged winner and became queen.

She initially did not know the purpose of her new status, but much later, when the Jews had their existence threatened, she worked hand in hand with Mordecai to bring about their deliverance.

A non-Jewish virgin could have won the contest, but because God needed a vessel to facilitate the deliverance of His people, He chose Esther.

As a child of God, you were not chosen for yourself but to satisfy He who chose you. You were appointed to take care of God’s interests wherever you find yourself. Open Heaven 18 November 2018

Why are you pursuing your personal interests? Have you cared to find out from God why He brought you to the place you are? If you ask, He will reveal it to you.

And when this is done, that revelation will be the drive that motivates you to achieve what He chose you for.

May you not disappoint God. The Lord will open your eyes to see why He has put you where you are, and give you the grace to do His bidding.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, help me to fulfil Your purpose for bringing me to where I am. May I never disappoint You in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Ezekiel 17-19
Hebrews 13

Hymn 5
1. Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the Royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banners go!

Chorus
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

2. At the Sign of triumph
Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

4. Onward, then, ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, praise and honour,
Unto Christ the King;
This, through countless ages
Men and angels sing.

INTRODUCTION:

A mansion is a usually a very big structure and much bigger than a house. It is correctly translated as luxurious dwelling place or abode. From John 14:1, Jesus said “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me”.

This is telling us that the remedy for troubled hearts is faith in the living God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Verse 2 says “In my Father’s house are many mansions: …… I go to prepare a place for you”. He had taught us in John 13:3, He came from the Father gave him to do, he would ascend up to where he was before in John 6:62. Open Heaven 18 November 2018

Heaven is the Father’s house. Heaven is glorious. The Bible describes it in glowing terms in the book of Revelation 21:11-23 as being made of pure gold likewise its streets.

MEMORY VERSE : In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

TEXT REVIEW: John 14:1-3, 2 Cor 5:1
i. Do not get troubled, God has everything in abundance.
ii. Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us.
iii. Jesus is coming back again.
iv. A mansion that is not hand made. It is eternal.

LESSON OUTLINE:

How Do I Gain Inheritance In My Father’s House?

There is no other way this inheritance except by making Jesus Christ the Lord of your life. John 14:6. The Bible says in 1 Cor 15:22 that “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive”.

You and I are born in Adam through natural birth, but we can be born again in Christ through new birth. 2 Cor 5:17 says “2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”.

Jesus is assuring us that God has not excluded anyone from the possibility of being in His house.
Apostle Paul in 1 Tim 2:4 tells us that God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. No matter who you are God wants you to be saved.

1. Salvation. Be born again. John 3:3. Have a genuine of all your sin and ask God for forgiveness and make him your Lord and Saviour. Being born again, you and I are entitled by grace to an inheritance in our Father’s house. We are going to receive everything that God originally designed for us that Adam lost. Romans 8:15-17

2. Live in total obedience to God. 1 Sam. 15:22

3. Seize every opportunity to preach the gospel whether it is convenient or not. 2 Tim 4:2

4. Live a life of holiness; flee from every form of sexual sin. 1 Peter 1:16; 1 Cor 6:18

5. Morally stand out. 1 Cor 6:17.

6. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thess 5:17

7. Be full of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:32

SUMMARY: Jesus I’d the Way to the Father.

CONCLUSION: Jesus says in John 14:6 that “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”. To live in our Father’s house, we have to follow Jesus, because no man can come unto the father except by Jesus.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention what you need to do, to access your inheritance with the Father.

PRAYER POINTS:

1.Thank God for sending His word to you today.
2. Ask for the grace to remain in Him till the end.
3. Ask for the grace to make heaven.

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1Corinthians 16:15-19
15 I urge you, brethren — you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and [that] they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints —
16 that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with [us.]
17 I am glad about the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus, for what was lacking on your part they supplied.
18 For they refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge such men.
19 The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.

INTRODUCTION: A common feature in the early Church was the presence of home churches or house fellowship in the residences of believers.

No matter how highly placed you were or what office you occupied in the main church, you either belonged to a home church or had a thriving one in your house. Even Apostle Peter belonged to one (Acts 12:11-17). Open Heaven 18 November 2018

LESSON OUTLINES
1. Why the home church?
2. Benefits of home churches

WHY THE HOME CHURCH?
Today, the home church is recognised as the extension of the local assembly (Acts 2:46). It is a convenient unit where every member of the church could be reached and catered for. It is, therefore, a good caring unit (1Corinthians 16:15,18; Acts 16:40).

The areas of care or need are easily identified in a home church or a house care fellowship (Romans 16:1-6). The home church leader would have addressed issues that would have been brought to the main church (Exodus 18:21-23).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Why is attendance in some home centers dropping?

BENEFITS OF HOME CHURCHES
The church is a place of prayer, healing, worship, baptism of the Holy Spirit and preparation for water baptism. Therefore, every activity that can take place in the regular church can also take place in a home church.

These include: salvation of souls (Acts 2:40-42); Water baptism (Acts 10:47-48); baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:44-46); healing the sick (Mark 2:1-4,11-12); fasting/prayer (Acts 12:5,12); divine visitation/
presence (Acts 2:1-5); sharing of the word of God (Acts 10:34-43).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2 : What can individual (you and class members) do to bring about growth and development to the house fellowship in your localities?

SUMMARY: Home church is an integral part of the main church. God is also present there.

CONCLUSION: The home church does not only sustain the church growth but also cares for the individual members of the church.

QUESTIONS
1. Mention reasons the home church is necessary.
2. What are the benefits of a home church?

What did Stephanas and some others do to attract commendation?
(i) Stephanas was addicted to the ministry of the saints. 1 Cor. 16:15.

(ii) They (Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus) supplied what was lacking to
Paul. 1 Cor. 16:17.

(iii) They refreshed Paul’s spirit and that of the church. 1 Cor. 16:18.

(iv) They (Aquila and Priscilla) were a blessing to the ministry of the word. Acts 18:26. Apostle Paul commended them in such strong term as, “submit to such and to everyone that helped us and labored.” 1 Cor. 16:20.

Paul further said, “therefore, acknowledge ye them that are such.” 1 Cor. 16:18. Who therefore said that your labour of love and that of your entire household was not recognized or acknowledged? Do not desist if you are Stephanas, heaven bears record that you are serving. Continue please.

Open Heaven 18 November 2018 Bible Reading: Exodus 17:14-16 and Luke 22:17-20

14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

16 For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

Luke 22:17-20

17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Open Heaven 18 November 2018 Bible Reading In One Year: Ezekiel 13-15 and Luke 23:18-43. Sing Hymn 11

An altar could mean a lot if things depending on who built it and the purpose for which it was built. Here in today’s open heaven Bible reading, we realise that an altar might be built not only to worship and sacrifice to the Almighty God, but also to serve as a memorial.

Man is susceptible to forgetting what the Lord has done in times past, God commanded the children of Israel to never forget Him, His ways and His works (Deuteronomy 8:18, Exodus 20:8, Psalm 105:5-6).

May you and your children never forget God or what He has done for you in Jesus’ Name. Not only do altars of memorial bring us to remember what God has done in the past, they also bring God to remember His promises and covenant with His people, especially when they are at crossroads.

After securing victory over the Amalekites, Moses built an altar for the peculiar reason started in Exodus 17:15-16

15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

16 For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

Generations after, we see God remembering what He had sworn to do against the Amalekites. 1 Samuel 15:2 says:

2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

I pray that God will remember His covenant and promises to you today in Jesus’ Name.

Beloved, as Christians, we need to build memorial altars. One classic example of a memorial altar is the altar of the Holy Communion our Lord Jesus Christ instructed us to continually partake of it in remembrance of Him.

When we do this, we remind Him of His finished work on the cross of Calvary, and this activates His power against anything that negates this finished work in our lives.

Do you partake of this meal? Do you call to remembrance the death and resurrection of our Lord in your home by sharing this meal with your family?

If you have not been doing so, begin to do it from today and watch God arise to enforce His covenant over your life.

Open Heaven 18 November 2018 Action Point: Call to remembrance over anything in your life and family that negates the benefit of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ offered with His body and blood.

Open Heaven 18 November 2018 Hymn 11

O GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure

Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth receive her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the
night
Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

O God. Our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life
Shall last,
And our external home

4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

Open Heaven 17 November 2018 Bible in one year: Ezekiel 11-12, Luke 22:63-23:17, Hymnal: sing hymn 8

Our God is the Compassionate Fathers that everyone should desire to have. He is the strength of those who have no strength. Speaking about His compassionate nature, Isaiah 40:28-29 says:

”Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and  to them t have no might he increaseth strength.”

It is however unfortunate that we allow the devil to deceive us into thinking that our Father is not as loving and compassionate as He says He is, especially in challenging times.

The devil also maligns God in the area of His commandments. We need to understand that His commandments are for our own good. When God commanded Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Adam did not realize that it was for his own good (Genesis 2:16-17).

The devil deceived Eve into thinking that God gave this commandment out of wickedness. Even today, the devil is still in the business of attacking the integrity of God and His word through different false doctrines, but the devil is a liar.

May you not fall victim to the devil’s deception that maligns God’s character in Jesus’ Name.

In today’s Bible text, we read about the travails of Elijah, a great prophet of God. While he was on the run for his dear life, he became so exhausted that he asked God to kill him!

Open Heaven 17 November 2018

Dis-encouragement and fatigue caused some fundamental things to go wrong in Elijah’s mindset here.

First and foremost, God does not kill without a just cause. Secondly, He is not an ingrate: how could He kill a useful and effective vessel who had been fighting valiantly on His side? God will not do that.

If you are in this same situation Elijah was in, the Almighty God asked me to tell you that instead of killing you, He will rather encourage you, just as He encouraged Elijah.

In his state of despondency, Elijah slept off, but before he woke up, there was a cake back on coals and a curse of water waiting for him to eat and drink.

Elijah ate and sleep off again, only for God’s angel to wake him up a second time, instructing him to”Arise and eat; because the journey is too great or thee” (1st Kings 19:7). Our Father is so caring!

Beloved, no matter what the devil may be telling you about our Father in heaven, I stand to debunk it in the Name of our loving Savior: it is not true. Our God is good, all the time. Believe only what the scriptures say about Him and it shall be well with you.

Open Heaven 17 November 2018 Action point: Pray for God’s encouragement for all missionaries suffering discouragement and despondency.

Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been
Thou forever wilt be.

Chorus:
“Great is Thy faithfulness!”
“Great is Thy faithfulness!”
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided,
“Great is Thy faithfulness,”
Lord, unto me!

Verse 2
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Verse 3
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
