OPEN HEAVEN 10 JULY 2023 MESSAGE

An expectation is a strong belief that something will happen, especially when all other things are equal. For example, all other things being equal, a worker will be paid his salary at the end of the month.

In other words, this expectation will not be realised if that worker suddenly quits his or her job before the end of the month. The good news is that any expectation based on the promises of the Almighty God to you shall come to pass, provided you remain steadfast in following and obeying Him.

In our memory verse of today, the Lord exceeded Solomon’s expectations. Solomon had asked for wisdom to be able to rule God’s people excellently, but to his amazement, God added some things to his expectation of wisdom.

And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the Kings like unto thee all thy days. (1 Kings 3:13)

I remember expecting God to give me a modest apartment to live in after I became the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, but He exceeded my expectations by promising me a city.

Currently, the Redemption Camp, though still expanding, is comparable to a city. To experience something exceeding your expectations, to get more than you hoped for, you must excel in your commitment to the Almighty God – the only One who can exceed your greatest expectations.

You must set yourself apart in holiness if you want to experience blessings that will exceed your expectations. For example, you may be asking for the position of a High Chief whereas God may want to make you a King.

You may be seeking to be elected as a senator and end up becoming the President of your country. What can God not do? Absolutely nothing. God can easily exceed your expectations as long as you are on His side in holiness and righteousness.

Father I thank You for Your goodness in my life. Thank You for making me see a new day.

Lord, I thank You for the gift of salvation. Thank You for sending Your son to die for my sins. I and my family receive the gift of eternal life in the name of Jesus.

Thank You Lord for the hope of glory and for the eternal assurance we have in You.

Lord, I ask that You forgive my sins, wash me in Your precious blood and make me clean from unrighteousness in the name of Jesus.

Almighty God please keeps us all in You to the end, and help us to remain steadfast in Jesus’ name.

Father, may I not harden my heart when I’m reproved. Help me to always listen to correction so that I will not be destroyed in the name of Jesus.

Father, help me to submit to Your correction and pruning, to become a better person and to bear fruits in Jesus’ name.

Oh Lord, help me to always recognize my wrong and run to You for mercy and grace in Jesus name.

Christian teenagers build ties outside their families by getting involved in relationships that sometimes graduate from friendship to dating. While these relationships are an exciting time for you, they also come with their own issues and hazards.

There is a lot of growing up to do in all aspects of relationships, and having good guidance is essential because the relationships you keep are directly linked to fulfilling your destiny. If you build and keep the right ones, your journey becomes easier and lighter, while the wrong ones will either slow you down or take you off the path of life.

I advise that you network with people in places that look like where you are going. For example, if you wish to become the youngest l Vice-chancellor in Africa (which was my dream before the Lord called me into full-time ministry).

You should focus on relationships within the academic world and develop relationships with people who will encourage you to rise through the ranks. Also, don’t allow any friendship to graduate into dating now, as it will only distract you from fulfilling your goal and lead to sin.

BIBLE TEXT(S): Rom. 13:1-7

INTRODUCTION:These are the people in authority, they are the decision makers of the land. Their orders are being carried out by all or else one will be punished and as believers God instructed us to obey all authorities.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, we thank you for our national leaders because no one can lead except God ordained it. Rom. 13:1.

2. Father, we pray that they will lead us to fulfill God’s purpose by living a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and holiness in Jesus name (1 Tim. 2:1-2).

3. Father, please put your fear and wisdom in their heart in Jesus name Matt.15:14.

4. Father, uproot every plant that you have not planted in the government of our Nation by removing evil agents in Jesus name Prov. 12:12-13.

5. Father, we pray that our leaders will be humble and seek the face of the Lord in Jesus name

6. Father, let the people they are leading walk in the fear God in Jesus Name. 2 Chro. 7:14

7. Father, we pray that our leaders will tremble before the Lord and serve Him only in Jesus name Ps. 2:10-11.

8. We pray that our leaders will have good advisers in Jesus name. Prov. 11:14.

9. Father, please by your power, guide, control and direct the heart of our leaders to lead us well in Jesus name. Prov. 21:1

10. Help them not to commit abomination because Prov. 16:12 says it is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness for the throne is established by righteousness.

11. Father, help our government to take decisions that will take our nation to a positive new level in Jesus name.

12. Father, give our leaders wisdom, good knowledge and understanding they need to lead their subjects aright.

13. Father, by your power give our leaders divine creative ideas to create job opportunities for the poor masses.

14. Father help our leader to always listen to the people they are leading to know what their needs.

15. Father, please help our leaders to fear you and know that they are accountable to you for each decision. Prov. 9:10

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please keep me from renouncing my faith in Christ.

BIBLE PASSAGE: HEBREWS 6:4-6

[4]For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

[5]and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

[6]if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

MEMORY VERSE: “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” Hebrews 10:29 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: Renouncing one’s faith is ‘apostasy.’ The term apostasy comes from the Greek word ‘apostasia’ meaning ‘defection,’ ‘departure,’ ‘revolt’ or ‘rebellion.’ Apostasy is the formal disaffiliation from, abandonment of, or renunciation of a religion by a person. It can also be defined within the broader context of embracing an opinion that is contrary to one’s previous religious beliefs. It is an act of refusing to continue to follow, obey, or recognise a religious faith. One who undertakes apostasy is known as an apostate.

1. THE CHARACTERISTICS
The teacher should emphasise the following:
A. Forms of apostasy;
i. In the context of the Christian faith, there are two main forms of Apostasy:

ii. One is a falling away from key and true doctrines of the Bible into heretical teachings that claim to be “the real” Christian doctrine;

iii. The other, is a complete renunciation of the Christian faith, which results in a full abandonment of Christ (Heb.10:29).

B. Description of apostasy:
Jude’s description of the character of the first Century apostates explains why he so strongly opposed them. Some believers today are towing the paths of the apostates of Jude’s day;
i. they are ignoring scriptural warnings of past judgments on sins (Rom.15:4) such as that of unbelieving Israelites, fallen Angels (Jude 6; 2 Pet.2:4), Sodom and Gomorrah (Jude 7; Gen.19:24-25).

ii. They become ungodly by moral perversion, defilement of the flesh and rebellion.

iii. They boldly speak evil against people and things they do not understand such as Spiritual beings and dignitaries (Jude 8-10).

iv. They are ignorant about God; proclaiming false visions, self-destructive, grumbling, fault finding, self-satisfying, using arrogant words and false flattery.

v. They make a mockery of God (Jude 15-18).

vi. They ignore God and His word like Cain; they practice greed and deceit like Balaam, and rebel against spiritual authorities like Korah (Jude 11).

vii. Apostates are sensual (Jude 19). They deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ (Titus 1:15-16).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss the problems an apostate could bring to the body of Christ in particular and the society at large.

2. THE DANGER AND HOPE
A. DANGER
i. The apostate would eventually fall away and depart from the truth of God’s word and His righteousness. 1John 2:19.

ii. It can be deduced from Hebrews 6:4-6 that it is impossible to restore apostates back to the faith (by human efforts).

B. HOPE FOR AN APOSTATE
i. The apostate can still return to God who can do all things. Luke 1:37; Jer. 32:27

ii. The apostate who repents of his/her apostasy and humbly and genuinely call on God will receive forgiveness. 2Chro. 7:14; 2Cor. 7:10; 1John 1:9.

C. CAUTION
i. Every believer must pray for discernment, combat apostasy, and contend earnestly for the faith that was once and for all delivered to the saints

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class should discuss how a true believer can guard against sliding into apostasy.

CONCLUSION: Apostasy is a dangerous trend that can lead to a point of no return. Be watchful.

EVALUATION: What characterises apostasy?

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, we know that with you nothing is impossible, therefore, restore the apostates in our society in the name of Jesus.

ASSIGNMENT: Identify five things the church of God can do to help apostates (2×5=10 marks).

LESSON INTRODUCTION: What is a container? This is an object that holds or is used to transport things. It covers the actual thing which it protects. The Container acts as a protection for that which is contained in it. That which is in the container is the content. Take for example a can of corn beef. The can is the container while corn beef is the content. But note that the beauty of the can does not determine the taste of corn beef. 2 Corinthians 4:7

LESSON OUTLINE ONE:
POINTS TO CONSIDER
The treasure in the earthen vessel has to be of greater value than the earthen vessel. Nowadays we See men and women who are very well dressed and made up with all sorts of make-up and jewelries but when we probe into their lives, we see that the beautiful vessel is covering a terrible human being;
– A husband can become a boxer after marriage, what was looking good is actually a beast waiting to unleash arrow on his wife.
– On the other hand, could it be that a beautiful woman after marriage is unable to keep a home. (cannot boil water to cook an edible meal). You need to check that container both spiritually and otherwise before saying yes. Never be in a hurry to say yes just because he or she looks good to the eyes.
– Even in the other types of partnerships, business, ministry etc. we should seek God’s approval. Some people sweet talk their victim only to dump them at the long run. So we should take everything to God in prayer and ask Him to help us make the right choice. Psalm 53.2.

ACTIVITY: Members should access the contents they are carrying.

SUMMARY: Container determines the content, pure in heart will carry godly acts.

CONCLUSION: We should not opt for anything just because they look good. We should take out time to pray and enquire from God before deciding.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, teach me to always seek Your face concerning all issues of life.

2. The grace to ask and enquire on what Jesus would do in all circumstances give unto us.

3. Father, help Your church to constantly trust in Your words so as to do as Your word instructs.

4. Father help Your church to seek to know the content rather than be carried away by the look of the container.

5. We commit Your son Pastor E. A. Adeboye and his family into Your hands, please protect them and watch over them.
