SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

MEMORY VERSE: “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” Hebrews 10:29 (NKJV).

BIBLE PASSAGE: Hebrews 6:4-6
[4]For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

[5]and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

[6]if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

INTRODUCTION: Renouncing one’s faith is ‘apostasy.’ The term apostasy comes from the Greek word ‘apostasia’ meaning ‘defection,’ ‘departure,’ ‘revolt’ or ‘rebellion.’ Apostasy is the formal disaffiliation from, abandonment of, or renunciation of a religion by a person. It can also be defined within the broader context of embracing an opinion that is contrary to one’s previous religious beliefs. It is an act of refusing to continue to follow, obey, or recognise a religious faith. One who undertakes apostasy is known as an apostate.

OUTLINES:
1. THE CHARACTERISTICS
2.THE DANGER AND HOPE

1. THE CHARACTERISTICS
In the context of the Christian faith, there are two main forms of Apostasy: one is a falling away from key and true doctrines of the Bible into heretical teachings that claim to be “the real” Christian doctrine while the other is a complete renunciation of the Christian faith, which results in full abandonment of Christ (Heb.10:29).

Jude’s description of the character of the first Century apostates explains why he so strongly opposed them. Some believers today are toying the paths of the apostates of Jude’s day, ignoring scriptural warnings of past judgments on sins (Rom.15:4) such as that of unbelieving Israelites, fallen Angels (Jude 6; 2Pet.2:4), Sodom and Gomorrah (Jude 7; Gen.19:24-25).

They are becoming ungodly by moral perversion, defilement of the flesh, rebellion, boldly speaking evil against people and things they do not understand such as spiritual beings and dignitaries (Jude 8-10). They are ignorant about God, proclaiming false visions, self-destructive, grumbling, fault-finding, self-satisfying, using arrogant words and false flattery and they make a mockery of God (Jude 15-18). They ignore God and His word like Cain, practising greed and deceit like Balaam and rebelling against spiritual authorities like Korah (Jude 11). Apostates are sensual (Jude 19). They deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ (Titus 1:15-16).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss the problems an apostate could bring to the body of Christ in particular and society at large.

2. THE DANGER AND HOPE
Ultimately, an apostate eventually falls away and departs from the truth of God’s word and His righteousness (1Jn.2:19). We can deduce from Hebrews 6:4-6 that by human intervention, it is impossible to renew those who abandon their Christian faith. However, the Bible makes it clear that with God nothing shall be impossible (Lk.1:37; Jer.32:27). Therefore, if a child of God abandons his faith for whatever reason (including apostasy), there is but one route of return -that of repentance, acknowledgement of wrong and the humble petition for God’s pardon (2Chron. 7:14; 2 Cor.7:10; 1Jn.1:9).
It is critical, now more than ever, that every believer prays for discernment, combat apostasy, and contend earnestly for the faith that was once and for all delivered to the saints.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class should discuss how a true believer can guard against sliding into apostasy.

CONCLUSION: Apostasy is a dangerous trend that can lead to a point of no return. Be watchful.

QUESTIONS:
* What characterises apostasy?
* How dangerous is apostasy?

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 7 JULY 2023 BIBLE READING Ecclesiastes 7:9

[9]Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 7 JULY 2023 MESSAGE

While growing up, I witnessed how bullies insult innocent children, not minding the devastating effect it may have on them. Insults are usually verbal. Some common verbal insults include mean jokes, ironic Comments and mimicry.

So, what is the best way of dealing with such insults? Even if your first instinct is to get angry, fight back or return the insult, I’lI advise that you stay calm and not respond. I taught my children to always say, “Joy to the wise, joy to me, and I refuse to be a fool.”

You need to understand that people who insult others do so because they possess qualities that they are not proud of they have unpleasant experiences and are looking for whom to redirect their negative energy to Ask the Holy Spirit to help you ignore insults and refuse to be fool.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 7 JULY 2023 ACTION POINT

The next time someone insults you, rather than lash back, keep quiet and walk away.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 7 JULY 2023 HYMN

HYMN 21 – I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS

1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak,

2. I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there.

3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.”

5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call.

6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee

OPENING PRAYER: Father, make me a competent and reliable vessel unto honour for kingdom purposeful use.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leader should remind members that marriage is the first institution designed by Almighty God to meet needs.

Memory Verse: “But we have this treasure in heathen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us”. 2 Corinthians 4:7

Bible Text: 2 Timothy 2:20-21
[20]But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

[21]If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: What is a container? This is an object that holds or is used to transport things. It covers the actual thing which it protects. The Container acts as a protection for that which is contained in it. That which is in the container is the content. Take for example a can of corn beef. The can is the container while corn beef is the content. But note that the beauty of the can does not determine the taste of corn beef. 2 Corinthians 4:7

LESSON AIM: To let members understand that different functions are required from godly vessels.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should:
– Get information on God’s recommendation on earthen vessels.
– Understand that getting right container requires divine leading.

TEXT REVIEW: 2 Timothy 2:20- 21.
– Different vessels carry limitless impetus.
– For vessels to remain useful and productive, they need purging.

LESSON OUTLINE ONE
POINTS TO CONSIDER
The treasure in the earthen vessel has to be of greater value than the earthen vessel. Nowadays we See men and women who are very well dressed and made up with all sorts of make-up and jewelries but when we probe into their lives, we see that the beautiful vessel is covering a terrible human being;

– A husband can become a boxer after marriage, what was looking good is actually a beast waiting to unleash arrow on his wife.

– On the other hand, could it be that a beautiful woman after marriage is unable to keep a home. (cannot boil water to cook an edible meal). You need to check that container both spiritually and otherwise before saying yes. Never be in a hurry to say yes just because he or she looks good to the eyes.

– Even in the other types of partnerships, business, ministry etc. we should seek God’s approval. Some people sweet talk their victim only to dump them at the long run. So we should take everything to God in prayer and ask Him to help us make the right choice. Psalm 53.2.

ACTIVITY: Members should access the contents they are carrying.

SUMMARY: Container determines the content, pure in heart will carry godly acts.

CONCLUSION: We should not opt for anything just because they look good. We should take out time to pray and enquire from God before deciding.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, teach me to always seek Your face concerning all issues of life.

2. The grace to ask and enquire on what Jesus would do in all circumstances give unto us.

3. Father, help Your church to constantly trust in Your words so as to do as Your word instructs.

4. Father help Your church to seek to know the content rather than be carried away by the look of the container.

5. We commit Your son Pastor E. A. Adeboye and his family into Your hands, please protect them and watch over them.

GOLDEN DIET FOR THE WEEK
MONDAY: Do not judge a book by its cover.

TUESDAY: Not all that glitters is gold.

WEDNESDAY: Always seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

THURSDAY: Do not always be ina rush on taking crucial decision.

FRIDAY: Always seek godly counsels on crucial matters.

SATURDAY: Prayer against the spirit of costly mistakes.

SUNDAY: Be a good content and avoid deception.

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JULY 2023

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JULY 2023 MEMORIZE: Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:25

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JULY 2023 BIBLE READING 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18-31

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JULY 2023 MESSAGE

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the power and wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24). He declared in Luke 4:18: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. (Luke 4:18)

It then follows that anyone who embraces the gospel of Jesus Christ is wise. However, the word of God cannot be understood through logical reasoning. For instance, Jesus preached that whoever will have his life must first lose it for His sake (Mark 8:35).

He also declared that for us to find rest for our souls, we must take His yoke upon us. How can yoke-carrying bring rest to the soul of the carrier? This is why many scientists and philosophers struggle to accept and believe the word of God.

For example, I was personally caught in this web in my early Christian walk concerning tithing. “How can 90% be enough when even the entire 100% was never enough for me?” I queried then. Thanks be to God that I know better now.

The good news is that Acts 10:38 testifies that Jesus Christ went about preaching and His preaching brought all forms of deliverance to those who listened and came to Him (Matthew 21:14).

Beloved, do you believe the Gospel? The Gospel is the good news of how Jesus came to this world to save all sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). This is the wisdom of God hidden in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Come to Him today to receive His Wisdom and your life will not remain the same.

What are your needs? He has promised that if you seek His kingdom and righteousness first, He will add all these things you need to you (Matthew 6:33). Accept God’s wisdom, take Him at His word, and He will never let you down.
