BIBLE TEXT: 2 Chronicles 20:5-23, Joshua 1:3-10
2 Chronicles 20:5-23
[5]And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

[6]And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

[7]Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

[8]And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

[9]If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

[10]And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

[11]Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

[12]O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

[13]And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
[14]Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

[15]And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

[16]To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

[17]Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

[18]And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

[19]And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

[20]And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

[21]And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

[22]And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

[23]For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

Joshua 1:3-10

[3]Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

[4]From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

[5]There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

[6]Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

[7]Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

[8]This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

[9]Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

[10]Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 17 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING DANIEL 3:18-30

[18]But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

[19]Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

[20]And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

[21]Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

[22]Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

[23]And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

[24]Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

[25]He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

[26]Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

[27]And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

[28]Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

[29]Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

[30]Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 17 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

Peer pressure is when a person’s intentions or actions, mostly negative, are influenced by people of his/her age group or social setting. The most obvious reason many young people succumb to peer pressure is just to have a sense of belonging.

We live in a society where young people are easily distracted by what people post on their social media platforms, whereas those things are sometimes not true. I have heard of an influential young man on social media who posed in front of a new Bentley car to take a picture that he posted on his status.

After many of his followers showered congratulatory messages on him, he opened up to say that the picture was taken when he went to rejoice with a friend who just bought the car.

Children of God who are sure about their identity in Christ need not give in to peer pressure. I charge you to be like the Hebrew boys in today’s text. Be determined not to succumb to negative pressure that will tarnish your salvation or good name.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 17 JUNE 2023 HYMN

HYMN 15 – ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS

1. Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before;
Christ, the Royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banners go.

CHORUS
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus,
Who is gone before.

2. At the name of Jesus
Satan’s host doth Ilee;
On then, Christian soldiers
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise.

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God:
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod.
We are not divided,
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

4. Crowns and thrones may perish
Kingdoms rise and wane;
But the Church of Jesus
Constant will remain:
Gates of hell can never
‘Gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise-
And that cannot fail.

5. Onward then, ye people,
Join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song:
“Glory, praise and honour,
Unto Christ the King”,
This, through countless ages,
Men and angels sing.

OPEN HEAVEN 18 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

Nehemiah 8:10 says the joy of the Lord is your strength. Joy produces strength and strength is the ability to do work. Joy is the energy drink that heaven gives you to keep you strong and healthy enough to work. The thing about this energy drink is that it has different concentrations, depending on how much of it is needed per time.

The one with the smallest concentration is what I will call regular joy. You are supposed to have a dose of it every morning. Psalm 30:5 says weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

People who suffer depression find it difficult to even stand from their beds in the morning. If you are experiencing any form of depression or sadness, I pray that the Lord will fill you with joy and strengthen you, in Jesus’ name.

One of the ways of getting joy is through hearing good news. Psalm 51:8 says, “Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice’.

A brother returned from work so tired he refused dinner and just went to bed. As soon as he got to his room, his fiancée came to visit. His mother welcomed her but said the brother was very tired and had gone to bed.

However, the brother heard his fiancée’s voice and rushed out. He went to his mother and asked what he could offer the young lady. She replied, “There is rice but you will have to cook it”. He said, “No problem, I will cook”.

The mother looked at him with surprise, wondering how he who had been too tired to even eat was now ready to cook. The good news that his fiancee was around had given him strength that even he did not know he had. You will hear good news every morning, in Jesus’ name.

The word of God is good news, it gives joy. Study it every morning; you will experience joy and receive strength. Jeremiah 15:16 says, “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Before you read the newspapers or blogs where you will most likely hear bad news, read the word of God to get the good news you need to strengthen you for the day.

LESSON FORTY TWO (42)
TOPIC: PLUGGED-IN KNEES

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please open my heart to understand more about prayers.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 22:39-46.

[39]Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.

[40]When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

[41]And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,

[42]saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

[43]Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.

[44]And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

[45]When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.

[46]Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.” Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane

MEMORY VERSE: “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.’’ Matthew 14:23 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: ‘Plugged-in knees’ simply refer to a life of constant prayers. A consistent and persistent prayer life was a regular practice and more of a lifestyle by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This exercise was pressed upon us more frequently by our Saviour, thus He encouraged His disciples to be fervent, consistent, and persevere in the place of prayer (Lk.18:1). He even propounded the parable of an unjust judge, who was overcome by an unrelenting widow, to do her justice contrary to his own inclination (Lk.18:1-7).

OUTLINES:
1. THE NEED FOR PERSISTENT PRAYERS
2. HOW TO PRAY REGULARLY

1. THE NEED FOR PERSISTENT PRAYERS
‘Plugged-in’ is to engage wholeheartedly in a task or to be connected. The need for ceaseless prayers is therefore emphasised in the Bible (1Thess.5:17) for various reasons.
Some of the needs for persistent prayers include:
i. To keep the communication line between God and His children open (Ps.55:17).

ii. To be filled with the power of the Holy Ghost and be bold (Acts 4:31).

iii. To be guided when there is a need to take a decision (Acts 1:24) or find direction (Gen.24:12).

iv. For believers in Christ to enjoy the fullness of joy promised them by God all the time (Jn.16:23-24).

v. To remain standing, though the days are evil (Eph.5:16) and full of sin, error, subtle heretical seducers, and sharp persecutions (2 Tim.3:13-14; Matt.24:12-13).

vi. To stay connected to the parent stock, as a branch, and be fruitful. (Jn.15:5-6).

vii. To be able to withstand and confront the forces of wickedness that sought to destroy God’s children (Eph.6:12-13).

viii. To cast out unclean spirits (Matt.17:19-21).
ix. For restoration (Judg.16:28) and when agonised (1Sam.1:10).

x. To bring the flesh under (Matt.26:41; 2 Cor.10:3-5) and always look up unto God (Ps.5:3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should discuss why they find it difficult to pray persistently.

2. HOW TO PRAY REGULARLY
Praying regularly requires the following among others:
i. We pray frequently when we take prayer as a daily task (Ps.141:2).

ii. Deliberately pray in the Spirit (Eph.6:18; Jude 20).

iii. Live in the reality, that there is a need to pray without ceasing (1Thess.5:17; Mk.14:38).

iv. Put God first on any issue by contacting Him through prayers (Ps.37:3-5).

v. Be actively involved in praying regularly for others (Col.1:9).

vi. We must give ourselves to prayers (Ps.109:4).

vii. Delight in God when praying (Job 22:26-27).

viii. Pray with confidence believing that God hears and answers prayers (1Jn.5:14-15).

ix. Pray everywhere – even in seemingly odd places like the kitchen, bus, street, playground, toilet, etc. (1Tim.2:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Are there places or situations a Christian cannot pray?

CONCLUSION: Constant prayer is a necessity for a close walk with God.

EVALUATION: How can believers pray regularly?

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please give me the grace to be consistent in my prayer life.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention at least five benefits you have derived from prayer (No mark).

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER’S MANUAL 18 JUNE 2023

LESSON FORTY TWO (42)
TOPIC: VESSELS FOR THE MASTER’S USE

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please make me a vessel for the Master’s use in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Jeremiah 18:1-6
[1]The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

[2]Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

[3]Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

[4]And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

[5]Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

[6]O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

MEMORY VERSE: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” Ezekiel 22:30.

INTRODUCTION: God does not necessarily need our strength or strong points to use us. Oftentimes, He delights in using our weakness, because whenever He does, we do not get to share in His glory. God wants us to be examples to others of what He can do in and with us if only we are willing and obedient to do His will. God is still looking for vessels to use.

TEXT REVIEW: Jeremiah 18:1-6.
-The teacher should identify five lessons from the parable/analogy of the porter’s house according to the passage:
i. ————————————————–
ii. ————————————————
iii. ————————————————
iv. ————————————————
v. ————————————————

LESSON OUTLINE 1: BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF VESSELS GOD USED
A. The teacher should establish the fact that God can use any available person because He is no respecter of persons. Acts 10:34-35.

B. The teacher should mention some of the vessels God used in the Bible despite their weaknesses and shortcomings as follows:
i. Moses: A fearful man (Ex.2:14), of low self-esteem (Ex.3:11) and stammerer (Ex.4:10). He was chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from an age-long captivity. (Num.12:6-8).

ii. Gideon: A man of doubt (Judg.6:11-13; 6:36-40) and low esteem (Judg.6:14-15). He became the vessel chosen to liberate his people from the Midianites. Judges 7:19-25.

iii. David: He was the least in his father’s house (1Sam.17:14a; 16:11-12), an adulterer (2Sam.11:2-4) and apparent murderer (2Sam.11:14-17). He became a man after God’s heart. 1 Sam.13:14.

iv. Peter: An unlearned fisherman who slept instead of praying (Matt.26:37-44) and even denied Christ three times (Mk.14:66-72).

v. Paul: when he was Saul, persecuted the Church, arrested and aided the killing of many believers (Acts 8:1-3). Jesus converted and made him a chosen vessel especially to the gentile nations. Acts 9:1-15.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask each student to mention at least one weakness they have and how they can overcome it.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: GOD’S REQUIREMENTS AND REWARDS
A. The teacher should explain to the students that God is looking for vessels and His requirements include:
i. Faithfulness. Luke 19:17; 1Cor.4:2; Jer.5:1.
ii. Availability. Ezekiel 22:30; Isaiah 6:8.
iii. Teachability. John 14:23; Matt.10:24.
iv. Obedience to His word. 2Tim.2:21; Prov.13:13.
v. Being strong in Christ. John 14:12; John 15:16.
vi. Purging of self. 2Tim.2:21.
vii. Laying aside weights. Heb.12:1.
viii. Death to self. John 12:24-26.

B. A WORD OF CAUTION
God can discern every thought and motive behind every action. Heb.4:13; Ps.33:13-15.
God is looking for vessels and His requirements include: faithfulness (Lk.19:17; 1 Cor.4:2; Jer.5:1); availability (Ezek.22:30; Isa.6:8); teachability (Jn.14:23; Matt.10:24); obedience to God’s word (2Tim.2:21; Prov.13:13) and being strong in Christ (Jn.14:12; 15:16).

In addition, God wants us to purge ourselves of every contamination of the body and soul (2Tim.2:21), lay aside weights (Heb.12:1), die to self (Jn.12:24-26), not to look for fame and its associated fanfare, but to be completely yielded to Him. God can discern every thought and motive behind every action (Heb.4:13; Ps.33:13-15).

Let us choose to serve Him with all sincerity of heart and press on to the mark of His high calling in Christ (Phil.3:12-14). God rewards everything done in His name, whether in secret or in the open (Isa.45:19; Ps.58:11; Heb.11:6; Rev.22:12).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should identify how God rewards faithful vessels on earth.

SUMMARY: God has requirements and rewards for His chosen vessels.

CONCLUSION: You are the next vessel to be used by God. Stop resisting Him.

QUESTIONS:
* Mention some of those God used in the past despite their shortcomings.
* What does God require of a man He will use?

EVALUATION: Mention some vessels God used.

CLOSING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please use me for Your glory.

ASSIGNMENT: Identify five (5) areas where you think you are too weak to work for God and ask Him to strengthen you in those areas (No mark).

That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,

Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

MEMORY VERSE: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” Ezekiel 22:30.

OUTLINES:
1. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF VESSELS GOD USED
2. GOD’S REQUIREMENTS AND REWARDS

1. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF VESSELS GOD USED
God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). There are biblical examples of vessels that God used despite their weaknesses or shortcomings. These include:
1. Moses: A fearful man (Ex.2:14), of low self-esteem (Ex.3:11) and stammerer (Exo.4:10). He was chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from age-long captivity (Num. 12: 6-8).

2. Gideon: A man of doubt (Jug.6:11-13; 6:36-40) and low esteem (Judges 6:14-15). He became the vessel chosen to liberate his people from the Midianites (Jug. 7:19-25).

3. David: He was the least in his father’s house (1 Sam.17:14a; 16:11-12), an adulterer (2 Sam.11:2-4) and apparent murderer (2 Sam 11:14-17). He became a man after God’s heart (1Sam. 13:14).

4. Peter: An unlearned fisherman who slept instead of praying (Matt.26:37-44) and even denied Christ three times (Mk.14:66-72). He was mightily used of God (Matt.16:16-19, Luke 22:31-32; Acts 2:40-41; 3:6-8).

5. Paul: when he was Saul, persecuted the Church, arrested and aided the killing of many believers (Acts 8:1-3). Jesus converted and made him a chosen vessel especially to the gentile nations (Acts 9:1-15).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask each student to mention at least one weakness they have and how they can overcome it.

2. GOD’S REQUIREMENTS AND REWARDS

CONCLUSION: You are the next vessel to be used by God. Stop resisting Him.

QUESTIONS:
1. Mention some of those God used in the past despite their shortcomings.
2. What does God require of a man He will use?

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 16 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING REVELATION 2:18-19

[18]And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

[19]I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 16 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

Just the way you can decipher the different moods of your earthly father, you can know the different moods of your Heavenly Father. God, like us, is an emotional Being. He can be happy, sad or sorrowful. His emotions reflect through His voice which can be pleasant, reassuring or harsh.

For instance, when He is happy, His eyes are full of love and can be compared to shimmering pools of water, but when He is angry, His eyes are like a flaming fire. However, despite His angry mood, He still corrects in love.

For instance, in Revelation 2:18-29, the Lord correctly assessed the state of the church in Thyatira and commended them for several things they did well. This is how a Christian should approach anyone he/she wants to correct.

Before you correct someone, commend him/her for the good they have done, then point out the areas where they need to be better. This attribute of God also intimates us that He is always in control of His emotions; therefore, you are to always be in control of your emotions.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 16 JUNE 2023 HYMN

HYMN 21 – I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS

1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak,

2. I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there.

3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.”

5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call.

6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee.

RCCG YAYA SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENT’S MANUAL 18 JUNE 2023

BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 22:39-46

Some of these are:
1. To keep the communication line between God and His children open (Ps.55:17).

2. To be filled with the power of the Holy Ghost and be bold (Acts 4:31).

3. To be guided when there is a need to take a decision (Acts 1:24) or find direction (Gen.24:12).

4. For believers in Christ to enjoy the fullness of joy promised them by God all the time (Jn.16:23-24).

5. To remain standing, though the days are evil (Eph.5:16) and full of sin, error, subtle heretical seducers, and sharp persecutions (2Tim.3:13-14; Matt.24:12-13).

6. To stay connected to the parent stock, as a branch, and be fruitful. (Jn.15:5-6).

7. To be able to withstand and confront the forces of wickedness that sought to destroy God’s children (Eph.6:12-13).

8. To cast out unclean spirits (Matt.17:19-21).

9. For restoration (Judg.16:28) and when agonised (1Sam.1:10).

10. To bring the flesh under (Matt.26:41; 2Cor.10:3-5) and always look up unto God (Ps.5:3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should discuss why they find it difficult to pray persistently.

2. HOW TO PRAY REGULARLY
We pray frequently when we take prayer as a daily task (Ps.141:2). Deliberately pray in the Spirit (Eph.6:18; Jude 20). Live in the reality, that there is a need to pray without ceasing (1Thess.5:17; Mk.14:38). Put God first on any issue by contacting Him through prayers (Ps.37:3-5). Be actively involved in praying regularly for others (Col.1:9). Give oneself to prayers (Ps.109:4). Delight in God when praying (Job 22:26-27). Pray with confidence believing that God hears and answers prayers (1Jn.5:14-15). Pray everywhere – even in seemingly odd places like the kitchen, bus, street, playground, etc. (1Tim.2:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Are there places or situations a Christian cannot pray?

CONCLUSION: Constant prayer is a necessity for a close walk with God.

QUESTIONS:
* Why should believers pray?
* How can believers pray regularly?

FURTHER READING: MON: Mal.1:11. TUE: Col.2:9. WED: Matt.6:25. THUR: Gal.5:17. FRI: Rom.12:12. SAT: Isa.1:15. SUN: Rev.2:23.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention at least five benefits you have derived from prayer (No mark).
