I’ll be in Sunday School.

BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 3:9-13

[9]Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

[10]So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

[11]And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

[12]Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

[13]And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

MEMORY VERSE: “And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3:13 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: The blame game signifies accusations exchanged among people who refuse to accept responsibility for some undesirable events or outcomes. These people shift fault and liability to another person or thing while they paint themselves as flawless. We need to examine some negative effects of the “blame game” and learn to take responsibility for our actions instead of passing the buck.

OUTLINES:
1. NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE BLAME GAME
2. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

1. NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE BLAME GAME
The following, among others, are some negative effects of the blame game:
1. ‘Chasing shadows’: It makes us leave the main issue and continually look for excuses. For example, a slothful person will rather transfer blame to his boss, colleague, government, etc. instead of dealing with laziness (Proverbs 20:4).

2. Stagnation: It keeps us in one spot for a long time. This is counter-productive to human progress. Some people fold their arms to do nothing about their predicament because they blame and believe others are responsible for their conditions (Proverbs 22:13; Eccl.11:4).

3. ‘Never wrong syndrome’: We get quick at clearing ourselves of any wrong while we see every other person as being at fault (1 John 1:8; Genesis 3:12).

4. Depression: It births unhappiness and despair which can degenerate to depression, ill-health, hopelessness, etc.

5. Mental blindness: Like a veil, it prevents one from seeing clearly as the supposed wrong of others are only seen (Matthew 7:3).

6. Hatred: It produces deep-rooted hatred as the “blame gamer” condemns or speaks derogatorily about the person being blamed. Hatred is a terrible sin (1 John 4:20).

7. Pride and Ignorance combine: Pride sets in when we over-rate ourselves. It combines with ignorance because we refuse to be sincere with ourselves (Philippians 2:3).

8. Ingratitude: “Blame gamers” are unappreciative as they believe their benefactor can do more (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

9. Bitterness: Blame gamers become offended and allow bitterness to take an evil root in them (Ephesians 4:31; Hebrews 12:15).

10. Destruction of relationships: It tears relationships through suspicion and a lack of trust (1Samuel 18:8-9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should share their experience of the blame game.

2. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
Taking responsibility for one’s actions or inactions may not be easy but it is worth it in the long run. Hence, we must learn to sincerely acknowledge our wrong when we are at fault (Psalm 51:4a; 1 Kings 21:29). We must show a high level of personal accountability for our actions/inactions even in the face of failure (2 Samuel 12:13). Let us ask God to create a right spirit in us so as to be swift to acknowledge that there is a problem when a mistake is made or conflict arises (Psalm 51:10; 2 Samuel 24:17). Identify your role in a blunder and plan on how to avoid a future occurrence (James 1:13-14).
Students should share their experiences on what happened when they sincerely own up to a fault.

CONCLUSION: Stop trading blames, take responsibility for your actions/inactions, and be accountable.

QUESTIONS
* Mention three negative effects of the blame game.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 11 JANUARY 2024 BIBLE READING MATTHEW 26:14-16

[14]Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

[15]and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.

[16]So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him. Jesus Celebrates Passover with His Disciples

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 11 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

My dear child, knowing your worth will help boost your self-esteem and prevent you from falling cheaply for anything.

If you know your worth, it would be impossible for anyone to entice you with money and flashy things.

It was easy for Judas to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver because he did not know the worth of being a disciple of Jesus.

If he had known the value of his friendship and closeness with Jesus, he wouldn’t have fallen cheaply to the temptation to betray Him.

Unfortunately, by the time he realized his mistake, it was too late to retrace his steps (Matthew 27:3-5).

I implore you not to go into an unholy relationship or entanglement’ because of the ‘chicken change’ a fellow has to offer.

The blood of Jesus is your worth and it is worth far more than rubies, gold, silver, and all the precious stones in the world.

Beloved, Jesus did not lose His worth before men; hence, you shouldn’t lose yours either.

Never shortchange your destiny for temporary enjoyment. Don’t miss out on all the beautiful things that Jesus has to offer.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 11 JANUARY 2024 KEY POINT

You are invaluable; don’t put a price tag on yourself.

HYMN 3 – I AM THINE O LORD

1 I am Thine O Lord I have heard Thy voice
And it told Thy love to me
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee

Chorus
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To Thy precious, bleeding side

2 Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord
By the pow’r of grace divine
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope
And my will be lost in Thine

3 Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend

4 There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 JANUARY 2024 THURSDAY: IT SHALL BE WELL III

OPEN HEAVEN 11 JANUARY 2024 MEMORIZE: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” – (John 14:13)

OPEN HEAVEN 11 JANUARY 2024 BIBLE READING JOHN 14:13-14

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

Over the past two days, I discussed the need for you to live righteously and make a habit of praising God if you want it to be well with you this new year.

Today, I will look at prayer as one more spiritual activity that you must take very seriously in this new year so that it can be well with you.

It is obvious that things are getting tougher as we approach the end time.

The consolation, however, is the Lord’s assurance in Joel 2:32, where He says, *”And it shall come pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered…”*

In the book of Judges, the Bible says that the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and consequently, the Midianites terrorised them for seven years (Judges 6:1-2).

However, when the children of Israel came to the realisation that it was the Lord that was punishing them because of their sins, they cried to Him in prayers.

The Lord answered and delivered them from their troubles just as He will answer you today, in Jesus’ name.

*”If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”*. – (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Beloved, for it to be well with you in this new year, you must repair your altar of prayer and be ready to pray earnestly to the Lord.

Jesus promised all His followers who believe in Him that if they should ask anything in His name, He will do it (John 14:14).

What then are you waiting for? Pray to God now and continue to pray to Him until He causes a complete turnaround in every negative situation you might be experiencing.

The Lord is ready to answer the prayers of His children this year if only they can pray.

It shall be well with you as you spend quality time praying to God this year, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 JANUARY 2024 PRAYER POINT

Father, let it be well with me this year, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 JANUARY 2024 HYMN

HYMNAL: 22 – SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER! SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER!

1 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father’s throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter’s snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I’ll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JANUARY 2024 BIBLE READING 1 Samuel 28:3-19

[3]Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
[4]And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.
[5]And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.
[6]And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
[7]Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.
[8]And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.
[9]And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?
[10]And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.
[11]Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.
[12]And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
[13]And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.
[14]And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.
[15]And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
[16]Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?
[17]And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
[18]Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
[19]Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

K ing Ahaziah was an idol worshipper who reigned for two years as the king of Israel.

God was displeased with him because He also led the people to sin against God through idolatry.

One day, after an accident, where he fell from a window, he sent his servants to go and enquire from Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, if he would recover.

This made God very angry, and He sent Elijah to tell him that he would not recover from the accident and that he would surely die.

Ahaziah’s terrible mistake was seeking help from other gods when he was confronted with a problem.

My dear child, I want you to know that God, who made you, knows everything about you.

When you encounter any problem, He knows about it, and He has the solution already; all you need to do is ask.

Never consult any prophet or any medium when you face any challenge, instead, talk to God.

His word says that you should not bow to any other god but Him.

When you consult any other medium, you are simply bowing to other gods.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JANUARY 2024 KEY POINT

When you encounter any challenge, do not run to anyone else but God.

HYMN 18 – TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS
1 Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more
2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me
‘Neath the healing, cleansing
3 Yes, tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
4 I’m so glad Learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend,
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

Yesterday, I declared that it shall be well with the children of God this year, and so shall it be in the mighty name of Jesus.

There are, however, certain things you must do intentionally in order to have a manifestation of this blessing in your life. One of them is to praise God at all times.

Our Bible reading today says that the earth will yield its increase unto you when you praise God.

When you learn to praise Him with all of your heart and strength, everything on the earth will work together to ensure you have all-round success.

The story in 2 Chronicles 20:20-24 is a pointer to the efficacy of praise when directed to the only One that deserves it – The Almighty God.

When you praise the Almighty God, He will rise to fight your battles for you. Your enemies will be defeated, and people will rejoice with you.

The psalmist in our text today seemed to pray that God should grant the people the grace to praise Him. This is because only God enables people to do anything for Him (Philippians 2:13).

Everything we do for God is by His grace – even when we praise Him. Also, God encourages people to praise Him by doing seemingly impossible things for them.

I pray that the Almighty God will do something spectacular in your life this year that will cause you to sing and dance for joy. Your dancing will be constant this year, in Jesus’ name.

Years ago, the Lord told us in a service that we should praise Him and not ask for anything at all. There was a woman who came with a serious health condition.

As a result of this, she was not satisfied with the way the service was going that day, so she approached the then Deputy General Overseer of blessed memory, Pa J. H. Abiona, for prayers.

Papa told her that the General Overseer said that we should only praise God and not ask for anything. The woman reluctantly joined everyone else to praise the Lord. As she started praising God, she received her healing.

I enjoin you to cultivate the habit of praising God in an unusual way this year, and it shall truly be well with you, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JANUARY 2024 KEY POINT

When we praise God, we attract showers of divine blessings.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JANUARY 2024 HYMN

RCCG HYMN 17: PRAISE MY SOUL THE KING OF HEAVEN

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
to his feet your tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
evermore his praises sing.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King!

2 Praise him for his grace and favor
to his people in distress.
Praise him, still the same as ever,
slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness!

3 Fatherlike he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows.
In his hand he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Widely yet his mercy flows!

4 Angels, help us to adore him;
you behold him face to face.
Sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

The old year has just passed with all its ups and downs.

There is a tendency to think that things will remain the same or even become worse based on man’s projections and forecasts.

However, according to our Bible reading today, I speak into your life and declare that, “It shall be well with you!”

As assuring as this prophetic message from the Lord is, we must not lose sight of the truth embedded in our Bible reading: it is the righteous that will be singled out for wellness.

Our memory verse for today affirms this as well.

Beloved, I encourage you to live righteously in this new year if you want it to be well with you, your family, your business, your finances, and everything that concerns you.

One question you might, however, be asking yourself is, “How can one be righteous in this perverse generation when the Bible says in Romans 3:23 that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God?”

The answer to this question is very simple; the Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, God will forgive us, and the blood of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, will cleanse us from all sin.

Isaiah 64:6 also says:
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

The above scriptures establish the truth that we cannot cleanse ourselves and become acceptable to God by our own efforts; only the righteousness of God, which is obtainable through Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, is acceptable to God (Philippians 3:3-9).

Truly, many forecasts have projected that the year may be challenging, but I assure you that those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under His shadow (Psalm 91:1), and they will be shielded from any evil that may be lurking ahead.

The Bible, however, clearly says that God cannot behold iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13).

This implies that you must have the righteousness of God through Christ if you want to access the secret place of the Most High.

As you surrender your life to Jesus and walk in His righteousness all through this year and beyond, I decree once again that all shall be well with you.

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JANUARY 2024 ACTION POINT

Those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High will enjoy all-round well-ness for the rest of their lives.

OPEN HEAVEN 9 JANUARY 2024 HYMN

RCCG HYMN 29: WHEN PEACE LIKE A RIVER ATTENDETH MY WAY

1 When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Refrain (may be sung after final stanza only):
It is well with my soul;
it is well, it is well with my soul.

2 Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control:
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain

3 My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Refrain

4 O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;
even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS JANUARY 2024 MESSAGE

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS
DATE: TUESDAY 9TH OF JANUARY, 2024
THEME: THE GREATEST TEACHER

MEMORISE: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26

BIBLE READING: Proverbs 3:3-6
[3]Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
[4]So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
[5]Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
[6]In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

MESSAGE: There are many problems in the world today because people are living based on human wisdom and sentiments. Today’s memory verse establishes that those who acknowledge and consult God daily for direction will get accurate guidance. Every Christian needs the help of the Holy Spirit to make the right decisions and fulfil God’s will for their lives. Some time ago, I cried to God when I saw that the prophecy about the RCCG had not been fulfilled. With a presence in only 40 nations around the world, we were far behind what had been prophesied. I prayed earnestly until God said to me, “If you want the church to grow, make the Holy Spirit your closest Friend.” Since that day, the Holy Spirit has been teaching us different strategies which have positioned us in over 195 nations around the world. My dear child, you can improve on your grades in school, have innovative ideas to solve problems, and achieve great things if you make the Holy Spirit your Teacher and closest Friend.

KEY POINT: Holy Spirit, please abide with me and teach me Your ways.

HYMN 16: BREATHE ON ME, BREATH OF GOD;
1. Breathe on me, Breath of God;
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

2. Breathe on me, Breath of God:
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.

3. Breathe on me, Breath of God
Till I am wholly Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.

4. Breathe on me, Breath of God;
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.
