OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 28 OCTOBER 2023 MESSAGE

In our Bible reading of today, we are commanded to arise and, at the same time, shine.

Why? It is because God made up His mind to light the world that has been covered by darkness.

It is also because the glory of the Lord has come upon us.

Darkness is represented by sin, sickness, poverty, sorrow, failure, and bondage, whereas light is represented by righteousness, divine health, prosperity, joy, breakthrough, and freedom.

I don’t know how deep you may have gone into darkness through sinful habits or associations, however, I have good news for you, your light has come!

All you have to do to partake of this light is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.

If you let the Light in, your life, which may have been plagued with darkness, will be lighted.

You need to come out of the darkness of this world.

Accept Jesus, the Light, into your life today, and darkness will no longer be able to
overcome you.

Obedience is an act of doing and being willing to do what one is told, It is total submission to the written and spoken word of God.

True and perfect obedience comes from a heart of love. It is real and not mere eye service.

The Bible is full of stories of men and women who became great as a result of their complete and immediate obedience to the word of God.

One of the blessings of obedience is boldness. This is evident in the life of the disciples, especially after receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

They boldly confronted the Jewish elders when they were asked not to preach, saying that they would rather please God and displease men.

King Saul lost his throne because he chose to please human beings rather than honour God with complete obedience.

I believe you don’t want to lose your eternal throne, therefore, be obedient to God.

Are you facing persecution because of your obedience to Christ? Don’t give up! Don’t compromise your stance because you will be rewarded here on earth and in Heaven.

Our Bible reading for today shows us some fundamental requirements for an acceptable walk with God.

The first is clean hands; if your hands are defiled, you cannot walk with God. What defiles a person’s hands? Sin and illicit premarital sex or masturbation.

Proverbs 6:27-29 Says: “Can a man take fire in his bosom. And his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, And his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; Whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.”

Only a person with a pure heart can effectively and acceptably walk with God.

1 John 1:7-9 says that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

May the Lord deliver you from anything that works against your walk with Him, in Jesus’ name.

The act of walking with God is not a call to relate with Him as His equal but one of total submission to His authority and an absolute commitment to follow Jesus. This was made clear in Luke 9:23 and Philippians 2:12.

Determination to serve God in holiness, righteousness, in spirit, and in truth creates the right foundation for walking with the Lord.

Weeping doesn’t solve any problem: it is merely an expression of sorrow. It blurs vision and reasoning – both physically and spiritually.

Weeping, particularly when God says not to weep in situations that appear unpleasant, is an indirect protest against God’s command, and anything that we do contrary to the command of the Lord is an act of rebellion.

The Bible assures us that: “Weeping may endure for a night: but joy cometh in the morning” (Psalm 30:5).We are most blessed if we believe this Scripture.

Rather than weep over anything, I will encourage you to read God’s word concerning His promises for you in the time of trouble.

Gradually, strength will be restored to you; you will receive peace and insights on what to do next.

I saw the glory of God and the image of Jesus Christ in him and knew that if I could follow in his footsteps, I would make it in my Christian walk.

He was completely transparent and was a lover of the cross of his Master and Saviour. He did not only teach, he also practiced what he taught to the letter.

I advise you to seek out genuine teachers of the word of God and learn from them because only the truth and nothing but the truth can set you free from the errors of the end times.

The sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving can produce abundant prosperity, according to our memory verse today.

Children of God need to understand that God has numerous ways by which He can do whatever He says He will.

Don’t try to guess or dictate how God will bless you, you are to simply pray for what you want and thank Him in advance for the answer.

In today’s text, Jesus gave thanks for Five loaves and two fishes, and God’s response brought satisfaction to five thousand men asides women and children in one sitting!

The reason many young people are struggling is that they have an entitlement mentality instead of a gratitude mentality.

Whatever good you get is not a right but a privilege. You would be so blessed if you could learn to give genuine praise to God and not think that you deserve anything from Him.

Cultivate the habit of giving God worthy praise and thanksgiving, and He will bless you abundantly.

When you are about to take any action, one thing that should always be on your mind is not the benefit you would get from doing it, but what the end of it would be, in line with God’s word.

For example, you may see an opportunity to earn extra money by cheating someone, but stop and think about what the Bible says would be the end of those who cheat, as seen in Deuteronomy 25:15.

There was somebody who sold land to us around the Redemption Camp some time ago. We had paid for the land, but then he suddenly said he was taking it back.

I advised him against such an action, then he began to chant incantations, claiming that, “The vulture eats rituals with impunity”.

I laughed and said, “Of all the birds in the world, you want to compare yourself to the vulture? You want your life to be like that of the vulturelooking haggard and terrible?”

After some back and forth between us during which he accused me of wanting to put a curse on him, he said, “Let me tell you, I am the eagle who eats cursed meals and still becomes fat”. I told him to go and ask the elders how eagles die.

Hunters normally don’t get to kill an eagle because it flies so high so they usually can’t reach it when it is young and strong.

It would swoop in, pick your chicken, and no matter how much you curse it, it would not be bothered.

However, when the eagle gets old and isn’t as fast as it used to be, little birds would begin to tease it. The eagle usually dies of hunger in old age. It is the end that matters.

After about four years, during which time the man had sold our land to other people and made a lot of money out of it, he developed a strange medical condition that made his stomach so huge that when he stood, his stomach could touch the ground.

Beware what you do today because, God cannot be mocked; whatsoever you sow, you will reap (Galatians 6:71). You may say, “What about the people we see around who cheat others, yet keep getting rich?” David wondered the same thing and God gave him the answer in Psalm 73:3-20.

Don’t be one of those who will have such a disgraceful end.

INTRODUCTION: In the family of God, gender does not define sonship (Genesis 1:27). Anyone who is under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, adopted through grace is a son of God (Ephesians 1:5). Sonship in our context refers to a relationship with the Almighty God through Jesus Christ which makes Him Father to all believers (Romans 8:15). Sonship is a very important source of authority and dominion which distinguishes sons from others (John 1:12; Galatians 4:7). Beginning from Jesus, the Father always deliberately robes His sons with power (John 5:27; Acts 1:8). This is to empower them to operate fully as His representatives on earth. This lesson focuses on Jesus as the son of God as well as the believers.

1. JESUS, THE SON OF GOD
The Holy Scripture acknowledges the sonship of Jesus severally because the Scripture itself is about Him (John 5:39; Luke 24:44). Jesus’ sonship was acknowledged by:
i. God, the Father (Matthew 3:16-17).
ii. Jesus Himself (John 10:36).
iii. The Devils (Luke 4:41).
iv. His disciples (John 6:67-69).
v. His accusers (Matthew 27:54).
vi. A Jew (John 1:49).
vii. The angelic host (Luke 1:35).
B. Also, Jesus’ miracles distinguished Him as the only begotten of the Father (John 11:4).
C. His outstanding teaching ministry confirmed Him as the Son of the Most High God (Matthew 7:29; Luke 4:31-32).
D. The prophetic declaration of His birth established the truth about His Sonship (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:32).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1:.Students should discuss how to explain the Sonship of Jesus to non-believers.

2. BELIEVERS AS SONS
A. Having established Jesus’ Sonship, the Bible indicates that all believers regardless of gender are “sons” of God (Galatians 3:26-29) in the same degree as Jesus.
B. This truth resonates throughout the New Testament and is at the very heart of the gospel (1 John 3:1-2).
C. The Holy Scripture has several proofs for our sonship, some of which include:
1. Our adoption as sons (Romans 8:15).
2. The fact that we were given the same Spirit as Jesus (Galatians 4:6).
3. Being divinely led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14).
4. Prophetic support (2 Corinthians 6:18).
5. Jesus’ assertion (John 20:17).
6. Expectation of God’s creatures (Romans 8:19).
7. The fatherhood of God in Jesus’ prayer model (Matthew 6:9).
D. In addition, just like Jesus, the Scriptures establish the fact that we too as sons:
i. Have power and authority (Luke 10:19).
ii. Have essentially the same mandate (John 14:12).
iii. Are in this world as Jesus is (1 John 4:17).
iv. Have the same fate (John 15:20).
E. The disciples of Jesus, down the ages, have demonstrated the same power and authority (Acts 3:6-8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Having realised our sonship and authority in Christ, students should discuss how they have harnessed this privilege.

CONCLUSION.You must be born again to attain the “sonship status.” (John 1:12).
