6 BIBLICAL WAYS TO LOVE AND CARE FOR YOUR WIFE

Marriage is good and a thing to be desired in the Lord.

The Bible says that marriage is honorable so we know that God supports marriage when it is done His way.

Looking for Biblical ways to care for your wife is a great thing to do because scriptures encourage that people who are married should be preoccupied with their spouse and not other people’s.

When a believer is unmarried, they are free to more fully “care about the things of the Lord” while “the married man cares about…how to please his wife” and “the married woman cares about…how to please her husband.” (1 Cor 7:32-34).

The Bible is our guide in all things and marriage is not an exception.

Below are 6 ways men should love and care for their wives as seen from scriptures:

1. PROVIDE FOR HER

“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It is every good Christian husband’s assignment to work diligently and provide for his family, starting from his wife.

He may not be very rich or have all the luxuries in the world but he works, earns money, and prioritizes providing for his own wife.

Christian men are to show love and care for their brides by doing everything necessary, within the boundaries of the law and the godliness in order to provide for their wives.

Providing for his wife must be the concern and priority of every believing husband.

2. LEAD IN THE WAY OF THE LORD.

Since a Christian marriage is to imitate the marriage between Christ and the church, a godly husband should seek to “wash his wife with the water of the word” and to lead her to the throne of grace.

A Christian husband is to love his wife by leading her in the things of the faith like worship, study of the word, and prayer.

The man is made the head of his wife not to suppress her but to lead her excellently.

As a Christian husband, commit to encouraging your wife in God’s word.

3. BE AFFECTIONATE TO HER

A loving Christian husband is to be affectionate and caring towards his wife.

The very essence of Christianity is love to everyone.

You must show this love in a greater measure to your wife by showing her affection in different ways depending on your current situation and environment.

Creating time to take her out on nice dates, and buying gifts for her are great ways to show affection.

Satisfying her physical needs in terms of intimacy is also commanded by the Bible.

“Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her…” (1 Cor. 7:3).

Another great way to be affectionate towards your wife is to praise her publicly like the husband of the Proverbs 31 woman does at the city gates.

Lavishly express your love and affection for your wife without holding back and do it publicly too as long as it is done moderately and you are both comfortable with it.

Christian men must flee from the selfishness that consumes the world where husbands only care about themselves and pay no attention to their wives.

Every godly husband should commit to nurturing and building intimacy and affection with his wife.

4. SHARE HER BURDENS AND MAKE IT EASIER FOR HER

Just as God takes our burdens away and says we can cast it upon Him, (1 Pet 5:7), husband ought to do same for their wives.

Christian husbands must seek to share their wife’s emotional burdens by listening to her, praying for her, and rendering necessary help.

They must also seek to serve her and make her life easier by helping her with physical burdens as well.

The Bible says men are to relate with their wives as I with a weaker vessel.

Thus, husbands should be actively involved in physical activities like fueling her car, doing the laundry, fixing things in house, cleaning the dishes, and so on.

These are some practical and tangible ways that a godly husband can learn to relieve burdens from his wife and show her love in the home.

5. BE PATIENT WITH HER

One of the instructions the Bible gives to husbands regarding the way they are to love their wives is that husbands are to “dwell with their wife with understanding” (1 Pet. 3:7).

A loving Christian husband must seek to be kind, gentle and patient toward his wife.

This involves listening to her everytime she needs a listening ear, being patient with her especially when she is under pressure or dealing with issues relating to pregnancy, motherhood, hormonal stress, or even career.

When a wife seems to be folding under the pressures of life, a godly husband must love her and be patient enough to seek to understand why she is struggling even when he can not exactly relate with her burdens.

6. BE HONEST AND VULNERABLE WITH HER

It was said of the first couple in the Bible (Adam and Eve) that they were both naked before each other and unashamed.

This nakedness can be taken to mean transparency.

A loving Christian husband must be open and honest with his wife about his lifestyle, activities, finances, and even struggles.

This of course will be done within the boundaries of wisdom but nothing must be outrightly hidden from one’s wife.

A wife must be able to trust her husband completely and absolutely.

The Bible says when two people become married, they are no longer two but one flesh so everything must become one.

These are some of the ways a Christian husband must show love and care to his wife because they are all things that Christ does for us – His bride.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 18 MARCH 2023

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 18 MARCH 2023 MEMORIZE: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 18 MARCH 2023 BIBLE READING MATTHEW 13:24-30

[24]Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

[25]But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

[26]But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

[27]So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

[28]He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

[29]But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

[30]Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 18 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

This parable speaks so much about the forgiveness and patience of God. When I was a sinner, I disrespected God a lot. In fact, I used to tell people that if I were God, I would not have saved Adeboye because I was a really bad boy.

However, God in His mercy, gave me a second chance and saved me from hell. So, if you are reading this and you have not yet given your life to Christ, you need to do that right now because the next minute may be too late.

You’re simply enjoying the patience of God not to uproot you – a weed from among His children, the wheat. He is offering you another chance to repent before the day of reckoning comes.

This parable also teaches us that we are presently living in the time of grace in which God allows weeds and wheat to grow together. I want you to know that God’s word will come to pass, so when the time of judgement comes, He will separate His true children (the wheat) and the disobedient ones (the tares/weeds). It’s time to look inwards and stop judging other people for their sins.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 18 MARCH 2023 REFLECTION

Are you a weed or an ear of wheat?

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day

Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

MEMORY VERSE: “The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.” Proverbs 14:8.

BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 19:12-26.

[12]He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

[13]And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

[14]But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

[15]And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

[16]Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

[17]And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

[18]And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

[19]And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

[20]And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

[21]For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

[22]And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

[23]Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

[24]And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

[25](And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

[26]For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Simply put, financial intelligence is to be financially wise. It is the knowledge and skills gained from understanding finance and accounting principles in the business world and how money is being used (Prov. 18:15). To be highly successful, extra efforts, skills, intelligence and God’s leading will be needed. It is not only organizations and business owners that need
financial intelligence. It is also needed for
personal finance.

OUTLINES
1. WHAT IS PERSONAL FINANCE?
2. HOW TO BE FINANCIALLY INTELLIGENT

1. WHAT IS PERSONAL FINANCE?
Personal finance is the term that covers planning (Prov.21:5; 30:25) and managing
personal financial activities such as revenue
generation, expenditures, budgeting, savings,
investments and other financial related actions (Matt.25:20). As an individual, your personal finance is a reflection of the level of your financial intelligence, that is, your ability to make smart decisions, plan properly especially in the aspect of finance and live a good life (Prov.10:4). Your net worth and what you are able to do with your money is considered a success (Matt.25:22) and not necessarily so much cash at your disposal. A personal financial statement (Assets-Liabilities) shows
the net worth of an individual. For example, if
all assets in possession are sold and all debts paid, and the liabilities are greater than the assets, the financial statement indicates.a negative net worth. But, if the individual has more assets than liabilities, it is positive net worth.

OPENING PRAYER: Father, let your Holy Spirit dwell richly in me so that I can manifest His fruit.

MEMORY VERSE: “(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth)”. Ephesians 5:9 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: GALATIANS 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

INTRODUCTION: One of the reasons Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit is to help us learn how to be more godly (John 16:12-15). The Holy Spirit will convict us of our sin (John 16:8) and guide us in choosing well when faced with temptations, thus producing godly characteristics within us (Ephesians 3:16; John 16:13). This is what the Bible describes as the ‘fruit of the Spirit.

TEACHING REVIEW: GALATIANS 5:22-23
In the above passage, Apostle Paul, gives a list of the components of the Spirit which sums up the law. They are:
i. ……….v22
ii. ……… v23

LESSON OUTLINES
1. WHY “FRUIT?”
2. THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT

1. WHY “FRUIT?”
A. The Bible uses a lot of agricultural metaphors because they were easily understood by the highly agricultural culture of the time.

B. The “fruit of the Spirit” refers to the “results” we should see in our lives after receiving the Holy Spirit and working on our hearts over time (Romans 8:9;12:1-2). Apostle Paul according to *Galatians 5:22-23*. gives us the component of the ‘fruit’ as:
i. Love,
ii. Joy,
iii. Peace,
iv. Long-suffering,
v. kindness,
vi. Goodness,
vii. Faithfulness,
viii. Gentleness,
ix. Self control.

C. The ‘fruit’ metaphor helps us see our faith as a tree with branches that may or may not produce fruit, depending on how well we take care of the tree itself. If we give the tree nourishment (God’s word) -1Peter 1:23;2:2, then it will grow bigger. If we clear away weeds and insects (sinful tendencies) -Ephesians 4:22-31; Colossians 3:8-10, then keep the tree healthy. If we consult the professional Gardener (God) -1Chronicles 16:11- then we will ensure we are on the right track.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Mention the components of the fruit of the Spirit

THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT
A. If you are a Christian and you are not exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit, at best, you will experience stagnation-no growth (James 2:14-26). At worst, the result of “bad fruit” is death (Romans 6:20-23; Proverbs 14:12).

B. Notice that Galatians 5:22 starts with the word “but.” The Apostle Paul tells us that the opposite of these spiritual fruit. Let’s take a look at the verses just before the fruit list: “Now the work of the flesh are manifest, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred , variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: if the which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” -Galatians 5:19-21. This is a list of things that someone who does not have the Holy Spirit’s influence would have problems with.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should narrate their personal experience of how they have been able to exercise the fruit of the Spirit in them.

CONCLUSION: Our sinfulness produces rotted, poisoned fruit, which reflects our sinful nature and hurt us in the end. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit produces beautiful, nourishing fruit that reflects God’s nature and will ultimately benefit our lives.

CLOSING PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to profit with the fruit of the Spirit in me.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) things that could make a believer deny the manifestation of fruit of the spirit (2×5=10 Marks).
