14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

LESSON OUTLINES:
1. DEFINED BY YOUR HABITS
2. HABIT FORMATION AND CONTROL

1. DEFINED BY YOUR HABITS
A. Teacher should allow the students mention some means of expressing habits.

i. Habits are expressed in the way you wear clothes, sleep, eat, etc. Every habit you pick up is something you have developed in the mind, in your conscious and subconscious state (Prov. 23:7).

ii. The things that you consistently do on a daily basis determine your body shape, strength, and stamina, as well as many other things.

iii. According to *Joshua 1:8,* your success s in your habits. Jesus kept to the habit of preaching (Matt. 4:17), praying (Lk. 5:16), reading (Lk.4:16), and fasting (Mk. 9:28-29, Matt. 4:2).

iv. Habits can either make or break your chances of achieving your lifestyle goals as well as increasing quality of life and promoting longevity.

v. Some of the sicknesses and negative things you attribute to the devil are also traceable to your habit.

B. An unhealthy habit could be fear like Job’s, fornication like Samson’s, negative pronouncement like Balaam’s, irresponsibility like Adam’s, personality defects like Moses’, or adultery like David’s. The consistency of your habit turn to your behavior.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should discuss the difference between habit and character

2. HABIT FORMATION AND CONTROL
A. During childhood, habits are picked up from parents, caregivers, friends, teachers, or society. However, forming a habit may include the following stages:

1. CUE: this is where the mind is consciously analysing your internal and external environment for hints of where rewards are located. Like what information, business, or idea we bring rewards. When you cue on the word of God, ideas for good success drop into your spirit (Joshua1:8).

2. CRAVING: The que is the first indication that you are close to a reward, it naturally leads to a craving. Cravings are the motivational force that may lead to forming a new habit. What you crave is the reward it delivers (Philippians 3:10)

3. RESPONSE: This is the actual habit you perform, which can take the form of a thought or an action (Proverbs 23:7).

4. REWARD: This is where you get addicted to a habit. There are two rewards system here: it’s satisfies your craving and then it teaches you to come back (James 1:14-15)

B. If a behaviour does not complete this stages, is it will not become a habit. Without the first three steps, a behaviour will not occur. Without all four, a behaviour will not be repeated.

C. Therefore, to get rid of bad habits, carefully take the following steps:
i. Identify your triggers
ii. Focuses on why you want to change
iii. Enlist accountability partners
iv. Practice self control
v. Replace the habit with a good one
vi. Leave yourself reminders

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Are bad habits formed naturally in people? Mention places where bad habits are formed and how to get rid of them.

CONCLUSION: Spiritually, what really needs to be done is to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit

CLOSING PRAYER: Holy Spirit, please put me in check concerning my habits and let my life glorify God.

ASSIGNMENT: pMention five (5) habits that a believer should portray in daily living (2×5=10 Marks)

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 MARCH 2023 BIBLE READING LUKE 10:29-37

[29]But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

[30]And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

[31]And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

[32]And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

[33]But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

[34]And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

[35]And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

[36]Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

[37]And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

This parable tells the story of a man who was robbed of everything he had while traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was stripped of all his belongings and was seriously beaten. Some moments later, a priest and then a Levite passed by but showed no love or compassion for the man by failing to help him and passing on the other side of the road to avoid getting involved.

If there was anyone who should have known God’s law of love, it would have been the priest and Levite. By nature of their position, they were to be people of compassion, desiring to serve God and help others. Unfortunately, to them, “love” was not a word that required action – it was just a word.

Do you know that you are a priest unto God? The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9 that: “Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood.”; therefore, servitude and compassion must be your virtue. If someone is hungry and needy around you, you are to love him or her by your actions.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 MARCH 2023 HYMN

I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS

1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak,

2. I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there.

3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.”

5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call.

6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee.

I decree and declare that as long as God is my Father and the earth with its fullness is His, I am guaranteed a safe passage into success and victory, in Jesus name.

I decree and declare that since the earth is the LORDs, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein, nothing works against me in Jesus name.

I decree and declare that through Jesus Christ, I have power over the land and so my enemies cannot overwhelm me no matter how hard they try.

I decree and declare that as long as the Lord lives, every word against my prosperity on this earth will never come to pass in Jesus name.

I decree and declare; any voice that is speaking against my destiny and against my prosperity is destroyed in the name of Jesus

I decree and declare that God will satisfy me with long life and He will renew my strength in Jesus name

I decree and declare that the grace of God in my life will never run dry, but it shall grow bigger and bigger in the name of Jesus

I decree and declare God’s word about who I am, what I have, and what I can do in Christ Jesus who gives me strength. I am established as His child in all ways and I shine in His light in Jesus name.

I decree and declare that I speak God’s word and it does not return to Him void. His word accomplishes what He pleases and it prospers in the thing for which He sends it in Jesus name.

That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 12:15-21

15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

INTRODUCTION

Wealth is the abundance of valuable possessions or money. When we have wealth, we have more than we need to sustain a normal life. The Bible contains several examples of people blessed by God with great wealth; Abram (Gen. 13:2), Jacob (Gen. 30:43), Solomon (1Kings 10:23), Joanna (Luke 8:3) and Joseph of Arimathea (Matt. 27:57) among others. We shall consider what the Bible says about wealth and what should be believers’ disposition towards it.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVES
2. BELIEVERS’ DISPOSITION

BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVES

The view of Christians on wealth should be derived from the scriptures. This is because wealth and honour come from God (1Chronicles 29:12). God often blesses his children with wealth when they please him (Deut. 28:1-5). The Bible establishes the facts that wealth and riches shall be in the house of the man that fears God (Ps. 112:1-3); money answers all things (Eccl. 10:19); to enjoy one’s wealth is a gift from God (Eccl. 7:12) and it makes many friends (Prov. 19:4).

However, the Bible also contains several warnings about wealth,among which is the fact that the love of money is the root of all evil (1Tim. 6:10); riches should not be trusted (Prov. 23:5; Luke 12:15); wealth gotten through the wrong means shall diminish (Prov. 13:11); all men will die and leave their wealth to others (Ps. 49:10); those who pursue wealth at the expence of other core values of life will never be satisfied (Eccl. 5:10a).

BELIEVERS’ DISPOSITION

Christians should ote that wealth has never been an accurate barometer of a person’s standing with God. Some rightous people are poor (Luke 16:20-23) while some wicked people are rich (Ps. 73:3, 12). How then should believers handle wealth? While it is not sin for wealthy believers to enjoy their riches (Eccl. 5:19; 3John 2), they should also see wealth as an investment entrusted to them by God (1Chronicles 29:12). This wealth must be used to enhance good and pursue God’s purposes.

Wealthy believers can initiate charities and scholarship programmes, promote care for orphans, widows and less privileged (1Jn. 3:17-18; James 1:27), and be instrumental in advancing God’s kingdom (Luke 8:3; Rom. 16:3). It is important that believers prove themselves as faithful stewards, by channeling their wealth to godly legacies (1Corinthians 4:2; Matt. 6;19-20).

CONCLUSION
In a bid to be wealthy, believers should always note their first care should be for God’s kingdom and his rightousness (Matt. 6:33).

QUESTION
1. Mention three (3) things the Bible says about wealth.
2. How should believers handle wealth?

iv. Holding wealth so dearly as if it is God, is not good because one will still die someday and leave the wealth behind (Ps. 49:10).

OPEN HEAVEN 11 MARCH 2023 BIBLE READING GENESIS 22:1-18

1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

15 And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

Many years ago, when The Redeemed Christian Church of God was much smaller, one of my daughters-in-the-Lord told me,”Daddy, you must be at my wedding”. I laughed and said, “Okay, let’s look through my diary for a free date”. We looked through the Saturdays for the rest of that year and even the one after, but could only find one free in July the next year. She said, “Glory be to God; that is the date of my wedding”.

The next year came and my mother died in July, while I was in London on an assignment and because I hadn’t written the lady’s marriage appointment in my calendar, my wife saw that Saturday free in my calendar and said, “Yes, this is when we will bury Mama”.

I loved my mother very much – I am her last born and only son, but because of how committed this lady was to having me at her wedding, I couldn’t let her down. There was no other free day so I decided that we would do the funeral on Friday so that I could attend the wedding on Saturday.

When God sees a committed fellow, when He sees someone that will do anything to fulfil His will, He will also be committed to that person. Abraham’s heart was totally committed to God – so committed that he was willing to sacrifice his son just to fulfil God’s will.

That is why God was so committed to blessing him, even to the extent of swearing thus, ”.. By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son…” (Genesis 22:16).

Some people are not even committed in paying just 10% of their income to God as tithe and they want Him to be committed to their financial success. Some church workers are not committed enough to the work of God so they either go late or miss workers’ meetings, yet they want God to be committed to their businesses.

Some Pastors hardly fast and pray for the work that God has put in their hands, yet they want God to be committed to the growth of the ministry. He can see your level of commitment and He is using it to weigh His commitment to you as well.

OPEN HEAVEN 11 MARCH 2023 REFLECTION

Are you committed to God as you want Him to be to you?

OPEN HEAVEN 11 MARCH 2023 HYMN

1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine:
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you

OPEN HEAVEN 12 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

We often have high expectations for how God will respond to various challenges that come our way, but after a while, when we don’t get the expected responses, we begin to wonder if God has even noticed our prayers.

The Bible says in Proverbs 13:12, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” I want to let you know that God can see you and He will answer your prayers in a way you never thought possible, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Hannah had been attending Shiloh for many years but little did she know when she was leaving home in (1 Samuel 1:3-18) that this was going to be the last Shiloh she would attend as a barren woman.

Several years ago, we went to Haiti to conduct a crusade which was being broadcast over their radio. While preaching, I relayed to them God’s word of prophecy, saying, “There is someone listening to me now who is impotent; the Lord asked me to tell you that He has restored your potency.”

A man who had been impotent was lying down on his bed in his house far away from where we were, heard that word on the radio and he was healed immediately. The man ran down to where we were, shouting, “I am the one . I am the one.”

I don’t know for how long he had been praying and whether he had given up hope or not, but I am sure he was not expecting God to send a preacher from Africa to him. Thank God he had not given up; he was still in tune with God, listening to the live broadcast of a crusade.

I don’t know how long you may have been praying or if you are beginning to lose hope, but God can see you and even if He has to bring a man of God from the very ends of the earth, He will answer you soon, in Jesus’ name. Keep waiting on the Lord, He’ll never disappoint you (Psalm 27:14).

OPEN HEAVEN 12 MARCH 2023 PRAYER POINT

Father, I know You can see what I am going through. Please strengthen my heart and help me to remain steadfast, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 12 MARCH 2023 HYMN

ROCK OF AGES CLEFT FOR ME

1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure, save from wrath and make me pure.

2 Not the labour of my hands,
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sins could not atone;

3 Nothing in my hands I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace:
Wash me, Saviour, or I die

4 While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
