OPEN HEAVEN 27 JANUARY 2023

OPEN HEAVEN 27 JANUARY 2023 MEMORIZE: For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. Hosea 8:7

OPEN HEAVEN 27 JANUARY 2023 BIBLE READING GENESIS 27:18-23, GENESIS 37:26-35

OPEN HEAVEN 27 JANUARY 2023 MESSAGE

The law of harvest states that you will reap much more than whatever you sow. This is why you must be careful of the kind of seeds you sow, because when harvest comes, it is always much more than the seed. In our Bible readings for today, we see Jacob sowing a seed in the first passage and then reaping the harvest in the second.

In the first passage, he deceived his father in order to get the blessing and so his children also deceived him that Joseph their brother was dead. Genesis 37:35 says: “And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning Thus his father wept for him.”

Many a time, the harvest of your seeds comes when you are too old to do anything about it. Everything you do now is a seed and the harvest will come back to you when you may not have as much energy as you do now. I thank God for some of the seeds I sowed as a young man because I am now reaping the harvests.

In 1961, as a 19 year-old, I gave some money to a poor, sick old man – a neighbor, so he could get some medicine. The man said to me that someday, I would be travelling abroad as often as people go the market. I laughed at that prophecy because in my village in those days, if anyone was returning from a trip abroad, the entire village would not go to the farm that day.

The hunters would come out and shoot their guns in celebration of the person and everyone would be rejoicing. At that time, there were only 2 people who had gone abroad in my village, and they studied there for a number of years. Now this man was saying that I would be going often.

It appeared funny, but I had sown the seed. Today, by God’s grace, that prophecy has been fulfilled. Beloved, pay attention to every opportunity you have to sow a good seed. On the other hand, always check your actions to be sure that you are not sowing bad seeds that you will regret when the harvest comes.

OPEN HEAVEN 27 JANUARY 2023 KEY POINT

Be very intentional about the seeds you sow today because they will come back in multiple folds tomorrow.

OPEN HEAVEN 27 JANUARY 2023 HYMN

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING

There shall be showers of blessing
This is the promise of love;
There shall be season refreshing
Send from a savior above

Chorus:
Showers of blessing
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy drops round us are falling
But for the showers we plead.

2. “There shall be showers of blessing”
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys;
Sound of abundance of rain.

3. “There shall be showers of blessing”
Send them upon us Oh Lord!
Grant tO US nowa refreshing;
Come now and honour Thy Word.

4. “There shall be showers of blessing”
Oh, that today thy might fall,
Now as to God we are Confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

5. “There shall be showers of blessing”
If we but trust and obey;
There shall be season refreshing,
If we let God have his way.

BIBLE PASSAGE: DANIEL 10:2-3

[2]In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

[3]I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

MEMORY VERSE: “And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:” Daniel 9:3.

INTRODUCTION: Fasting, in the Bible, is total abstinence from pleasure-giving activities for a set time, to devote oneself to seeking God. While there are many ways believers could fast, too often, the focus is on abstinence from food. In this lesson, we shall examine different types of biblical fast, basic cautions and reasons for fasting.

OUTLINES:
1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE
1. Food fast-This is abstinence from food/drinks. It may take the form of:
i. Regular fast: This is done by abstaining from all foods, both solid and liquid. (2Chrn. 20:3). The fast is usually broken daily or periodically (Jer.36:6).

ii. Partial fast: This is inspired by Prophet Daniel. All meat and animal products are disallowed. The Daniel Fast includes vegetables, legumes, whole grains, seeds, and water. These guidelines are based on Daniel’s request of “nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink” (Dan.1:8-14).

iii. Absolute or full fast: Where no food or water is consumed (Est.4:16; Acts 27:33). For instance, Moses, Elijah and the Lord Jesus Christ did a forty-day absolute fast (Deut. 9:9; 1 Kgs.19:7-8; Lk.4:2).

2. Sex fast-The Bible also refers to ‘sexual fast’ (Ex.19:15). A married couple can mutually agree to abstain from sex for a short period to devote themselves to prayers (1 Cor.7:5).

3. ‘Pleasure’ fast – Another way is to confine or isolate oneself from people and pleasurable things to a place as a means of worship, studying the Bible and praying to God for a purpose (Lk.2:36-37; 5:16). Time alone with God requires discipline.
Scripturally speaking, is there a general rule to the time of breaking a fast?

2. REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS
Fasting is far more about focusing on God than abstinence from food or other things that give pleasure (Zech.7:5). Also, people fast for various reasons. Some for spiritual strength (Isa.40:30-31), supernatural revelation, wisdom and understanding (Ezr.8:21; Dan.9:22), supernatural breakthrough (Zech.8:19) repentance from sinful ways (Joel 2:12-13; Dan.9:3-5), spiritual hunger and demonstration of love for God’s people and burden for souls (2 Cor.11:27-28; Matt.5:6) and sharing with the poor and destruction of wicked works, among others (Isa.58:6-7).

Believers should exercise some caution while fasting. For instance, fasting should be limited to a set time and for a clear purpose (1 Cor.7:5; Est.4:16). It is neither intended to punish the body nor a dieting method (Isa.58:5) but to redirect attention to God. It is a period to give up self-indulging activities for a deeper fellowship with God (Matt.4:1-2).

Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetics, for example). However, everyone can temporarily give up something to draw closer to God (Ex.19:15). Biblical fast is to be done in a spirit of humility and joyfulness (Matt.6:16-18). It should not be to manipulate or do evil (Isa.58:4a; Acts 23:21). In breaking ‘absolute and long fast,’ warm liquids, (not carbonated drinks) are advised and should be taken in bits.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Does the inability to spend quality time in prayer nullify fast?

CONCLUSION: Ask God for wisdom (Jam.1:5) as regards how and for how long and what purpose He wants you to fast.

QUESTIONS:
* Mention the types of fast in the Bible
* Mention three (3) reasons believers fasted in the Bible.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) benefits that can be derived from fasting (2×5=10 Marks).

Will thou pass over me today?

BIBLE PASSAGE: ISAIAH 49:14‭-‬16 NKJV

14. But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, And my Lord has forgotten me.”

15. “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. 16. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

MEMORY VERSE: “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” Psalm 8:4 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: As a human being, you are so important that you have about 100 billion nerve cells in your brain and that brain is said to be a supercomputer. God also inscribed your name on the palms of His hands (Isa.49:16) and so you are always before Him. You are so relevant to God that He gave His Son-Jesus for your life (Jn.3:16). The Psalmist even asked God a fundamental question about you in Psalm 8:4 “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” It is high time you began to walk and live in that height of significance irrespective of your colour, gender, or physique.

OUTLINES:
1. FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
2. WALKING IN SIGNIFICANCE

1. FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
You are so special and significant in the plans of God that, He took the time to make you in His image and likeness (Gen.1:26). Even while you were in the womb, nobody knew how your bones were formed, except God (Eccl.11:5). As a unique individual, all the hairs of your head are numbered and known to God (Matt.10:30). You are so awesomely created that no one else is exactly like you: your thumbprints are so distinct and there is no other thumbprint like yours.

Your eyes are so vital, they are called the light of the body (Matt.6:22). You are so central in God’s programme that after creation He looked at you and said you are very good (Gen.1:31). He made you a sweet fragrance of Christ (2Cor.2:15). You are privileged to be called the heir of God and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus (Rom.8:17). The Spirit of God dwells in you, so you carry His presence (Rom.8:11).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students to discuss ways they are different from other creatures.

2. WALKING IN SIGNIFICANCE
With the knowledge of being fearfully created in the likeness of God, it is imperative that you walk and live significantly in that light (Matt.5:14). As joint-heirs with Christ, you are to walk in dominion (Gen.1:26) with your heads lifted high in Christ Jesus as a king and priest (Rev.5:10; 1Pet.2:9). You must refuse to cave in to low self-esteem but rather, walk in the confidence of Christ the King (Acts 28:31). As a key personality, you must carry yourself with dignity anywhere you are and refuse to live in fear (2Tim.1:7). You must stand boldly, even before the strong and mighty, to declare who you are in Christ Jesus (Jn.7:26). You must also occupy till He comes (Lk.19:13). Like the saints of old, you are to show your peculiarity as a chosen generation (1Pe.2:9) and a sort after person (Dan.4:9).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2:
Students should discuss additional things they can do to walk in the significance of their importance.

CONCLUSION: It does not matter whether you are tall or short; fat or slim; male or female, etc. you are God’s creature who is expected to fulfil a specific purpose on earth. You are important.

QUESTIONS:
* Give three reasons why you are unique
* Mention three things to do to walk in significance.

FURTHER READING: MON: Isa.40:27. TUE: Matt.7:11. WED: SOS.8:6. THURS: Isa.60:4. FRI: Zech.10:10. SAT: Ps.34:22. SUN: Rom.5:5.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five practical things you will start immediately to add values. (No Mark).

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 26 JANUARY 2023 MESSAGE

Words are very powerful; they can either mould or mar someone’s destiny. As a child of God, you cannot afford to be reckless with your words because there is power in your tongue.

One of the things I don’t encourage in the church is jesting or comedy. You cannot use abusive words or make jest of people and call them jokes! If you are into comedy as a form of entertainment, you really should be careful and know your boundaries.

Many comedians make fun off anointed Ministers of God and constituted authorities; some even change the names of God with profane words to excite their audiences. This is unacceptable.

In today’s Bible text, forty-two children lost their lives for laughing at the outward appearance of a genuine man of God. There are consequences for every wrong word you speak, so it is better to be quiet than to say the wrong things

I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS

1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one mark’d an angry word,
That ever heard Him speak,

2. I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there.

3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted was
To anyone unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good;
So that of me it may be said
“He hath done what he could.”

5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
“Let little children come to Me;”
I would obey the call.

6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
As anyone may see;
O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
And make me like to Thee.

OPEN HEAVEN 26 JANUARY 2023 MESSAGE

The Bible says in Proverbs 13:12, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” You may have really been hoping for something, but have not gotten it yet and your heart is beginning to feel sick.

Beloved, summon up strength and keep hope alive. Habakkuk 2:3 says that every vision is for an appointed time. Your appointed time will soon come in the name of Jesus. While waiting for their appointed time, many people do things that put a dent in their testimonies.

In Genesis 16:2, Sarah asked Abraham to have an extra marital affair with her maid so that the young girl could have a child for him. Sarah gave up hope and compromised. She later regretted it when her appointed time came and she now had her own child.

In Genesis 21:10, she told Abraham to send the maid away with her son. Beyond that, I’m sure when she looks down from heaven now and sees some of the seeds of that maid attacking her own seeds, she would wish she had kept hope alive.

While waiting for your appointed time, just ensure that you are obeying every instruction of God to the letter, whether it makes sense or not. Many years ago, we were offered the chance to buy all 40 acres of a serene campground called the “Youth Camp”, for N100,000.

That was a lot of money back then. I gathered my people together and we prayed quoting the Scripture: Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you. Joshua 1:3 We put off our shoes and walked round that camp ground praying and confessing that it was ours, by faith.

Not long afterwards, another ministry heard that the property was available for sale and they promptly paid for it. Our hopes were dashed, but I encouraged myself in the Lord and kept hope alive. Before long, God led us to where the Redemption Camp is situated, though then it was notorious for being a home for highway robbers and big snakes.

We trusted in the Lord and purchased the first parcel of land that has grown to become Redemption City today. The Redemption City now sits on an expanse of land far greater than what we had earlier wanted to purchase. Thank God that we kept hope alive for our appointed time.
