OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 18 AUGUST 2024 MESSAGE

Gratitude is a powerful emotion that transforms one’s heart and brings one closer to God. In the Bible, we are repeatedly reminded to give thanks to the Lord for all that He has done for us and to trust in His goodness and mercy.

Apostle Paul, in today’s memory verse, reminds us that gratitude is not a temporary feeling; rather, it is a deliberate choice that we make. Gratitude shows that a fellow trusts in God’s plans for his or her life, even in trying times.

You can choose to be grateful because you know that God is always with you, working all things together for your good.

In today’s Bible reading, we see that gratitude flows from a deep connection with Christ, being rooted in His love and strength.

When we are filled with thanksgiving, it is a sign that we have an intimate relationship with our Lord, and His grace is at work in us.

My dear child, strive to be rooted in your relationship with Christ so that your life can be filled with gratitude to God always. Is your gratitude dependent on circumstances?

O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

OPENING PRAYER: Father, don’t let me pass away with this world; help me to live in the new heaven and earth.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Revelation 21:1-5.
[1]And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
[2]And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
[3]And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
[4]And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
[5]And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

MEMORY VERSE: But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10.

INTRODUCTION: In the days of Noah, the world was destroyed with water, but God has promised that He would no more destroy the world with a flood (Genesis 9:11). The end of the world, described in 2Peter 3:10 as the day of the Lord will occur after the final judgement by God (Revelation 20:7-10). This scripture reveals that the universe will be destroyed by fire. Therefore, believers should bear in mind that this present world will not last forever (Matthew 5:18).

LESSON AIM: To study the passing away of the present heaven and earth and the emergence of the new heaven and earth.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: Through this lesson, students should be able to:
a. Understand the biblical truth about the passing away of the present heaven and the earth.
b. Understand also that there will be the emergence of a new heaven and earth.

TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above-stated goals, the teacher:
a. Should explain to students that the existing world and heaven will pass away soon as indicated in the Bible.
b. Should also explain to the students that after the passage of the present heaven and the earth, there would be the emergence of a new earth and heaven.
c. Should explain the nature of the new heaven and earth and the requirements to live in the new heaven and earth.
d. The teacher should summarize, conclude, evaluate and give assignment to the students.
e. The teacher should allow the Assistant Teacher to conduct the class, take the closing prayer and mark the assignment while students should be allowed to make contributions and participate in class activities.

TEXT REVIEW: Revelation 21:1-5.
The Apostle John saw:
i. A new heaven and a new earth. Revelation 21:1.
ii. The first heaven and first earth had passed away. Revelation 21:1.
iii. A very beautiful holy city called the New Jerusalem. Revelation 21:2.
ACTIVITY: Mention any five things which Apostle John “HEARD” according to Revelation 21:3-4.
i. ————————————————————–
ii. —————————————————————
iii. ————————————————————-
iv. ————————————————————-
v. —————————————————————

OUTLINES:
1. THE PASSING AWAY OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH
2. EMERGENCE OF THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH

1. THE PASSING AWAY OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH
i. The prophet Isaiah foretold the passing away of Heaven and Earth (Isaiah 34:4; 51:6).
ii. This refers to the physical Heaven and earth – the material world and all it contains – but not to the inhabitants of heaven and earth. To “pass away” is to disappear or be no more.
iii. The “heavens” in 2 Peter 3:10 refers to the physical universe – the stars, planets, and galaxies – which will be consumed by some kind of tremendous explosion, possibly a nuclear or atomic reaction that will consume and wipe out all matter as we know it.
iv. All the elements that make up the universe will be melted in the “fervent heat” (2 Peter 3:12).
v. This will also be a noisy event, described in different Bible versions as a “roar” (NIV), a “great noise” (KJV), a “loud noise” (CEV), and a “thunderous crash” (AMP). There will be no doubt as to what is happening.
vi. Everyone will see and hear it because we are also told that “the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: How should believers prepare for the day when the world and elements would melt in fire?

2. EMERGENCE OF THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH
i. In Revelation 21:1, John writes of a new heaven and a new earth in the eternal state, having seen that “the first heaven and the first earth had passed away” (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13).
ii. God will create a “new heaven and a new earth” which will include the “New Jerusalem” (Revelation 21:2), the capital city of Heaven, a place of perfect holiness, which will come down from heaven to the new earth.
iii. This is the city where the saints-those whose names were written in the “Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 13:8) – will live forever. Peter refers to this new creation as “the home of righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13).

PERSPECTIVE
Knowing that Heaven and earth will pass away gives us perspective in life.
i. This world is not our home. “We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).
ii. Jesus tells us to have the proper priorities (Matthew 6:19-20).
iii. Also Peter, after reminding us of the temporary nature of this world, says, “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” (2 Peter 3:14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class members should identify common spots or stains which could tarnish a believer’s life of holiness.

CONCLUSION: Believers should remain faithful to the end because there is the hope of eternal life with God beyond this present world.

QUESTIONS:
* Describe how the present heavens and earth will pass away.
* Will there be a new heaven and a new earth? Explain.

EVALUATION: What do you understand by the new heaven and the new earth?

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, help me to always be pure and holy.

ASSIGNMENT: List five (5) things you must be doing now in preparation for the new heaven and the new earth. (2×5=10 Marks).

BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 21:14-20
[14]And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
[15]And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
[16]And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
[17]And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
[18]Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
[19]And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
[20]And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: John 16:33 forewarned us that we will face challenges in the world but assures that at the end of it all, victory is certain because God is with us – Hebrews 13:5. God gives us strength and support physically and mentally during challenging situations. We therefore need to cast our cares and troubles on the Lord, because He cares for us – I Peter 5:7. When we cast all upon Him in times of illness, financial challenges, uncertainty, He will see us through and it will end in praise in Jesus name.

LESSON AIM: To discuss God’s faithfulness in all situations.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to: know that when all hope is lost, God is still there. know God is our very present help.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 17 AUGUST 2024MEMORISE:
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6:7

READ: Matthew 6:7-8
7. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Habakkuk 2:1
1. I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

MESSAGE:
Today, i will wrap up my preaching on how to pray by teaching on Supplication and Waiting on the Lord.
After interceding for people, the next thing is supplication. Supplication simply means praying for your needs. Many people make the mistake of complaining during supplication. You are not to complain or state your needs by repeating yourself. As a matter of fact, God already knows your needs; therefore, you should ask by being specific. I implore you to get a prayer journal. You can as well use your thanksgiving journal. Write a list of your needs before you start praying. For example, if you need success in an examination, don’t just say that you want to pass the exam; write out the subject with your desired grade.
Lastly, wait to listen to what God has to say. You are not a radio set that just keeps rambling without waiting for a response. Stay quiet for a while and listen, because God will talk to you. The whole essence of prayer is to communicate with your Father. When He’s done talking, write His words in your journal and thank Him.

ACTION POINT, Practice what you have learnt on how to pray by praying for the next one hour

1. O Lord My God,
When I In Awesome Wonder,
Consider All The Worlds Thy Hands Hath Made
I See The Stars,
I Hear The Rolling Thunder,
Thy Pow’r Thro’out
The Universe Displayed:

Refrain:

That God, His Son Not Sparing
Sent Him To Die,
I Scarce Can Take It In;

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 16 AUGUST 2024 MESSAGE

Today, I will be talking about the next two steps to take while praying.

They are: Confession of sins and Intercession.
Confession of sins simply means asking God to forgive you of your sins.

It also entails repenting of those sins. The way to go about this is to mention the sins you can remember one after the other and ask God to forgive you.

Confession of sins requires sincerity. For instance, if you told a lie to a friend earlier, you can simply say, “God, I told a lie to my friend (mention the person’s name); please forgive me, have mercy on me.”

Then, go ahead to ask for forgiveness for the sins you are not even aware of.

The next thing to do after confessing your sins is intercession; this entails praying for others.

God expects you to pray for others before you pray for yourself.

Thus, pray for your country and her leaders, mention the issues facing your country one after the other, and ask God to intervene.

Thereafter, pray for your friends, your church, Christians all over the world, particularly the ones facing persecution, and your relatives, especially the ones that are not saved.

Mention their names and their peculiar issues to God. With all these, you will spend more than an hour in prayers.

WONDERFUL STORY OF LOVE

1. Wonderful story of love!
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful story of love!
Wake the immortal strain.
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, O won’t you believe it?
Wonderful story of love!

Refrain:
Wonderful! Wonderful!
Wonderful story,
Wonderful story of love!

2. Wonderful story of love!
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love!
Still he doth call today.
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation;
Wonderful story of love!

3. Wonderful story of love!
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love!
For all the pure and blest;
Rest in those mansions above us,
With those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus;
Wonderful story of love!

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 15 AUGUST 2024 MESSAGE:

Over the last two days, i have been teaching on the different aspects of prayer. Today, I will focus on thanksgiving.
What is thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving has to do with acknowledging what God has done for you. This is a personal activity, and one of the ways to thank God effectively is to keep a journal of appreciation.

Many people keep diaries where they record the wrongs done to them, but they do not keep records of the good things that God has done for them.

My dear child, I want to encourage you to keep a record of the battles that God has fought for you, the answers to your prayers, and even the sudden blessings He bestows on you. This way, you will never run out of things to say in thanksgiving.

Personally, I always have a lot to say in thanksgiving. I start from my days of humble beginnings up until where I am today.

Believe me; I sometimes have to force myself to stop so that I can move on to other aspects of prayer. This is how I spend hours in the place of prayer

DREAMS: See Yourself In The Past; Former School, Places These Prayers Are For You

When you always see yourself in the past; in secondary school, your former neighborhood, always in the past. And it coccurs more than three times. It’s very likely that the spirit of reproach seeks to regulate your life.

This dreams are a sign that you are interacting with spirits. They are bringing you pictures that seeks to alter your reality in other to bring into existence their reality for your life.

The entire book of Revelation came to John in a DREAM. Your DREAMS are very important.

Spirits can inspire your subconscious. Job 32:8 says: But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. It means, even if you are not thinking of stagnation, Spirits can print an image of stagnation, in this case; your past in your subconscious that can be sustained into your reality.

Let’s be clear. This is a very sensitive matter.

If you had a “Classmates Reunion” and the next night you saw yourself in the same school with the people, that is possible, it’s caslled “recoil

Here, we are talking about repetition, it keeps happening time and again.

You have two choices:

1. Either you allow the dreams to keep occurring until the reality swallows you or

2. You start taking action right now!

According to Jeremiah 29:11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” It means, God can not have future plans for you and feed your dreams with your past.

Also if you look at Deuteronomy 8:18, ”You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

What these scriptures are saying is that God’s intensions for us are to live in abundance and victory. Now that you have these understanding, I want you to consciously rethink whatever you have been fed in the past. God is more interested in your future than you know.

You may ask, where does these spirits come from?

Most times from the practice of sinning. 1 John 3:8-10: Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

They also come to fight your progress. You don’t need to do anything to be the Devil’s next target. Ephesians 6:11 says; Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. These are schemes of the enemy against the children of God.

Now that you know what is going on…I want you to pray with clarity and absolute surrender to JESUS, the name that is above every other name.

These prayers are powerful if you pray with faith. If you just recite them like any other content you come across on the internet, nothing will happen to you.
