OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 19 OCTOBER 2024 READ: Matthew 24:40-42

40. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 19 OCTOBER 2024 MESSAGE

To be watchful is to watch over someone or wait earnestly for a significant event.

There are some things that the Bible enjoins Christians to watch out for, such as false prophets and doctrines, the anti-Christ, and the Lord’s second coming.

God expects every one of His children to be vigilant because our journey to heaven is peculiar.

Many things attempt to derail us from God’s straight path, but we must remain watchful and faithful in order to get the crown of life as promised.

When a soldier is in battle, his senses and the other parts of his body are alert because the enemies’ attacks might come suddenly from any angle.

His alertness helps him make the right moves promptly to dodge bullets and launch attacks of his own.

Therefore, as a Christian, you must be alert and not asleep in your walk with God.

Pray always, fast often, give to the poor, live a holy life, and don’t be distracted by anyone so that your instincts will remain sharp on the battleground called life. You will overcome, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 19 OCTOBER 2024 CONFESSION

Still They Mark Each Warrior’s Way;
All With One Sweet Voice Exclaim,
“Watch And Pray!”

Him Thou Lovest To Obey;
Hide Within Thy Heart His Word:
“Watch And Pra!.”

6. Watch, As If On That Alone

OPENING PRAYER: Father, open my eyes of understanding to Your redemptive package in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGE: 3 John 2-4
[2] Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. [3] For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. [4] I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

MEMORY VERSE: “As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” 2 Peter 1:3 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: After we surrendered our lives to Jesus, He gave us our redemption package. Inside this package is everything that will make life enjoyable. These things make Christianity delightful and beautiful. It is, therefore, expedient that we unfold our redemption package to enjoy its benefits.

LESSON AIM: To study the nature of the redemptive package given to believers at salvation.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: Through the lesson, students should be able to:
a. Know the constituents of the believers’ redemptive package.
b. Identify the benefits of the redemptive package.

TEXT REVIEW: 3 John 2-4.
In this passage, the testimony that John holds on Gaius’ faithfulness prompted him to write about the joy he feels and the desire to see him – Gaius (and by extension every faithful believer) prosper. It says:
i. Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospereth, V2.
ii. For I rejoice …………………….………V3.
iii. I have no ………………………..………V4.

OUTLINES:
1..Reasons For Not Enjoying The Redemption Package
2..Unfolding The Redemption Package

1. REASONS FOR NOT ENJOYING THE REDEMPTION PACKAGE
Certain factors may be attributed to the inability of a Christian to enjoy the benefits of redemption.
A. Ignorance is one of them (John 8:32).
i. These benefits are written all over the pages of the Bible.
ii. We must search them out to know them (John 5:39; Acts 17:11).
iii. Until we discover them, we cannot enjoy them (Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6).

B. Another reason is that some Christians have been wrongly taught to be content with their present state.
i. Sometimes you hear them say, “Thank God, I am saved: at least, I am going to Heaven.”
ii. Some Christians may decide to live and die like Lazarus: sick, afflicted, and poor; while others decide to live and die like Abraham; rich and healthy (Luke 16:20-21; Genesis 25:8-10).
iii. Do not be content with your present state, if it is not a pleasant one. Iv. We must revolt against lack, want, sicknesses, affliction, and any other thing that does not bring glory to God in our lives.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: How can one enjoy the redemptive package?

2. UNFOLDING THE REDEMPTION PACKAGE
Some of the things that accompany salvation can be broadly categorised as follows:
1. Deliverance: This is being set free from the power of darkness and it includes:
i. Deliverance from curses and evil covenants (Galatians 3:13; Romans 8:1).
ii. Deliverance from the spirit of fear (2 Timothy. 1:7). Fear has torment (1 John 4:18).
iii. Deliverance from demonic oppressions (Isaiah 49:24-26; Luke 10:19).
iv. Deliverance from the wrath of God (Romans 5:9; Ephesians 5:6).

2. Victory: This means triumphing, dominating, etc. (1 Corinthians 15:57). In the victory package is victory over:
i. Sin (Romans 6:14).
ii. Enemies (Isaiah 59:19).
iii. Devil (Revelation 12:11).
iv. Sickness and diseases (Exodus 15:26; Isaiah 53:4-5).
v. Death (both physical and spiritual) – Isaiah 28:18a.

3. Prosperity: Abundant provisions have been made for us (2 Corinthians 8:9; Job 36:11). However, some Christians are suffering, not because they are not saved, but because they are not meeting the conditions of the covenant of prosperity (sowing, giving, tithing, etc. – 2 Corinthians 9:6, 8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share with the class what changed in their lives since they gave their lives to Christ.

CONCLUSION: If we, as Christians, look mournful and sickly, it may be that we have not been claiming our redemption benefits. We must claim our redemption package. It is our covenant right.

EVALUATION: Why do some believers not make the most of their redemptive package?

CLOSING PRAYER: If you have given your life to Christ, pray for the grace to enjoy the blessings of the redemption package Christ gave to you. If you are yet to receive Him as your Saviour, ask for the redemptive package now.

ASSIGNMENT: Write five (5) redemption package benefits that you are enjoying. (2X5=10 Marks).

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 50:17-20.
[17]So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
[18]And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
[19]And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
[20]But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

MEMORY VERSE: “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man has a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” Colossians 3:13.

INTRODUCTION: Forgiveness involves an intentional decision to put aside feelings of resentment, anger, and revenge toward someone who has committed a wrong, been unfair, or otherwise hurt you. But some people find it hard to forgive those who have offended them. Some believers even say it is when they get to Heaven before they can forgive. However, the Bible makes it clear that those who refuse to forgive men, will not be forgiven by God too (Matthew 6:14-15). Therefore, we need to understand why believers must practice forgiveness and learn how to achieve it.

OUTLINES:
1. REASONS CHRISTIANS SHOULD FORGIVE
2. ACHIEVING TRUE FORGIVENESS

1. REASONS CHRISTIANS SHOULD FORGIVE
One of the fundamental obligations of a Christian is to follow peace with all men (Hebrews 12:14-15). As Christians, we should not only forgive but we should heal (Genesis 45:1-15; 50:15-21). The major reasons we are to forgive are:
1. It is a command (Mark 11:25; Ephesians 4:32).
2. We are the light of the world. We are a living example that others follow and watch consistently (Matthew 5:14; Matthew 5:16).
3. God is angry with us when we refuse to forgive (Matthew 18:32-35).
4. Lack of forgiveness hinders prayers (Mark 11:25).
5. We need to be forgiven (Matthew 6:14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Have you forgiven lately? Share with the class how you felt after the act.

2. ACHIEVING TRUE FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness can help prevent depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, and hostility (Romans 12:18). It boosts self-esteem and brings peace of mind (Psalm 32:1-5; Hebrews 12:15b). To forgive, we can adopt the programme known as the REACH model. REACH stands for Recall, Empathise, Altruistic Gift, Commit, and Hold.
Recall: To achieve forgiveness, be objective in understanding clearly the wrong done. It is not to wallow in self-pity or to hold a grudge against the offender (Genesis 45:4).
Empathise: Being objective will also help to see from the offender’s point of view, why he or she did what was done. But without downplaying the wrong that was done (Genesis 37:8, 19-21; 50:20a).
Altruistic gift: At this stage, the offended can remember his shortcomings and how he was forgiven. He then realizes that forgiveness is a gift we all need at one point or the other (Colossians 3:13).
Commit: To commit is to make public (share) one’s decision to forgive with an accountability partner who can put a check on you. Apostle Paul wrote publicly about his commitment to have a clear conscience at all times (Acts 24:16).
Hold: At the final stage of this model, the offended must be determined to see to it that his decision to forgive is realised. This is tough because memories of the event will often reoccur. When the feeling of hurt arises, remind yourself that you have forgiven and ultimately, you want the good of the offender (Genesis 50:17-20).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Have you had any hurting experience from a close person such that you thought you could not forgive let alone forget but you eventually did? How did you do it?

CONCLUSION
True forgiveness may not come cheap, but its benefits outweigh the pain. Learn to forgive.

QUESTIONS
* Why should Christians forgive?
* Mention four steps to achieving forgiveness?

ASSIGNMENT: Prayerfully follow the practical lessons on forgiveness and let go of anyone who has hurt you. (No Mark).

[1]And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
[2]And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
[3]And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
[4]And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
[5]A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
[6]And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
[7]And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
[8]And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
[9]And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
[10]And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
[11]Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
[12]Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
[13]They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

OUTLINES:
1. Reasons For Not Enjoying The Redemption Package
2. Unfolding The Redemption Package

1. REASONS FOR NOT ENJOYING THE REDEMPTION PACKAGE
Certain factors may be attributed to the inability of a Christian to enjoy the benefits of redemption. Ignorance is one of them (John 8:32). These benefits are written all over the pages of the Bible. We must search them out to know them (John 5:39; Acts 17:11). Until we discover them, we cannot enjoy them (Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6).
Another reason is that some Christians have been wrongly taught to be content with their present state. Sometimes you hear them say, “Thank God, I am saved: at least, I am going to Heaven.” Some Christians may decide to live and die like Lazarus: sick, afflicted, and poor; while others decide to live and die like Abraham; rich and healthy (Luke 16:20-21; Genesis 25:8-10). Do not be content with your present state, if it is not a pleasant one.

1. Deliverance: This is being set free from the power of darkness. This includes the following
In the victory package is victory over:
i. Sin (Romans 6:14).
ii. Enemies (Isaiah 59:19).
iii. Devil (Revelation 12:11).
iv.Sickness and diseases (Exodus 15:26; Isaiah 53:4-5).

QUESTIONS
* Mention three reasons believers do not enjoy the redemption package.
* Mention two benefits that believers can get from the redemption package

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 18 OCTOBER 2024 MESSAGE

When a girl is in love with a boy to the point of losing her sleep or when a boy is consumed with the thought of watching soccer at any given opportunity instead of studying his books, that is an obsession.

Obsession is an excessive devotion to a fellow or thing to the point of personal loss, injury, or death.

Although it’s often used in a negative sense, I will examine that word in a positive light today.

One Man who had an obsession for His Father was Jesus; He loved and obeyed God to the point of death, as shown in Philippians 2:5-8.

His obsession was hinged on His love for mankind, which made Him lose His life so as to win us back to God.

Beloved, are you in love with the Saviour who gave up His glory and comfort for your sake? Unfortunately, many people are hurting Jesus’ feelings today.

In spite of this, He still intercedes for them before the throne of grace. What an obsession!

Whoever is obsessed with Jesus would love Him, study God’s word, communicate frequently with Him, and always talk to everyone about Him.

The best way to reciprocate His love is by being obsessed with Him.

OPEN HEAVEN 20 OCTOBER 2024 MESSAGE

Yesterday, I started sharing about the challenges of success, and I focused on pride.

Today, I will look at another major challenge of success, which is the fact that everybody wants to be friends with the successful.

When you are successful, you will have many people around you, and it will be difficult to tell those that have good intentions apart from those that do not.

The mere fact that you are at the top will attract many ‘friends’ to you. This is why you must be careful to put your trust in God and not man.

Some people will do everything to work their way into your heart just because of what they want to get from you.

You will need the gift of discernment of spirits to know those that are genuine and those that are not.

In 2 Samuel 13:4-5, Jonadab advised Prince Amnon like he really cared about him. Amnon went ahead and did as he advised.

When the repercussion of that evil counsel came, Jonadab did not rise up to defend his friend; he was the one who went to announce Amnon’s death to David (2 Samuel 13:32-33).

He told the king, “Let the king cheer up, for Amnon only is dead.”

If Amnon had been wise, he would have seen earlier that Jonadab was not a real friend.

Real friends will not always say ‘yes’ to your desires. Sometimes, they will say ‘no’ because they care about you.

When you have people who never tell you the hard truth and who will keep supporting you, even when you are clearly going the wrong way, run from such people.

The higher you go, the more careful you have to become in choosing the kind of people you allow into your life.

If you are trying not to be lonely as you go higher, and you keep many friends, you will end up having many with negative intentions around you.

You should have fewer friends as you go higher, not because you don’t like being friendly, but because you will discover that most people care more about what you can give them than who you are to them.

As a result, your circle of friends should become really small as you advance in life.

For example, I had more friends when I was not yet General Overseer than I have now.

Beloved, I pray that God will give you the grace to discern between those that are really your friends and those that are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

OPEN HEAVEN 20 OCTOBER 2024 PRAYER POINT

Father, please give me the gift of discernment of spirits so that I can know who my real friends are and those that are not.

HYMN 27: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge–
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.

OPEN HEAVEN 19 OCTOBER 2024 READ: Daniel 4:25-35:
25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.
28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.
34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

OPEN HEAVEN 19 OCTOBER 2024 MESSAGE

Many people pursue success, and that is good. However, being successful has its own challenges.

Success has destroyed many people in the past because they were not prepared for the challenges that come with it.

Over the next few days, I will be sharing some of the challenges that come with attaining success with you.

I may not be able to share all of them with you in this series, but I hope that what you learn will help you prepare for success because you will be successful unto the end, in Jesus’ name.

The first challenge of success is pride.

In Genesis 48:1-20, the blessing of the firstborn was transferred to Ephraim by his grandfather, and as a result, he became greater than his elder brother, Manasseh.

Pride set in, and God kept pleading with him, but he wasn’t listening.

Then, in Hosea 4:16-19, God said that Ephraim should be left alone. By the time we get to Hosea 5:9, God said, “Ephraim shall be desolate.”

In Revelation 7:5-8, when the various tribes of Israel were being sealed, Ephraim was no longer there.

The pride that came with Ephraim’s success ended up destroying him.

Proverbs 16:18 says:
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Those who are down can fear no fall. The higher you go, the more cautious you should be of falling, and that caution should drive you to be more humble as you rise.

James 4:6 says: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

It is only by God’s grace that you are able to attain and sustain success.

If you become proud, God will withdraw His grace, and the result of that will be disgrace.

Don’t let God resist you; don’t allow pride into your heart. Do everything to ensure that you don’t think of yourself as more important than you really are.

Don’t look down on others, and don’t see anything as being too low for you.

Let Matthew 20:26-28 keep ringing in your head, that the one who will be the greatest must be the servant of all.

Jesus Christ showed us an example of service and humility in John 13:1-17.

He also told us clearly that this is the way to greatness in God’s kingdom (Luke 22:24-27).

Beloved, seek to serve more than to be served so that God will continue to lift you up.

OPEN HEAVEN 19 OCTOBER 2024 KEY POINT

No matter how high God lifts you, don’t allow pride into your heart.

HYMN 23: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

1 Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.

2 Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.

3 Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.

4 Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.

5 Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.

6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.

5. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6. And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8. Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12. Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 17 OCTOBER 2024 MESSAGE

I had a friend at the university who continued in sin while I chose to give my life to Christ.

One of his worst habits was smoking; he used to smoke about ten cigarette sticks every day, not minding the health risks.

One day, while having a conversation with him, he asked me to show him where God said, “Thou shall not smoke” in the Bible.

Instead of getting into an argument with him, I asked the Holy Spirit to give me the right Scripture, and I was led to the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17.

I explained that the type of stone that was capable of bringing down the enemy was a smooth stone and not any other kind.

Therefore, as long as he remained in his bad habits, he would remain rough, and he would be unfit for God’s use to achieve great things for the kingdom.

To the glory of God, within that same week, my friend stopped smoking, womanising, and doing other bad things.

He remained on the path of righteousness for over 40 years before he passed on to glory.

My dear child, if you’re still toying with sin, God wants you to turn a new leaf so that you can become an arrow in His hand.

In this way, when He launches you against the enemy, you will hit the target and bring victory to His name.

1. Christ Is Our Corner-Stone;
On Him Alone We Build;
With His True Saints Alone
The Courts Of Heaven Are Filled;
On His Great Love
Our Hopes We Place
Of Present Grace,
And Joys Above.

2. Oh, Then, With Hymns Of Praise
These Hallow’d Courts Shall Ring:
Our Voices We Will Raise,
The Three In One To Sin;
And Thus Proclaim
In Joyful Song,
Both Loud And Long,
That Glorious Name.

3. Here, Gracious God, Do Thou
For Evermore Draw Nigh;
Accept Each Faithful Vow,
And Mark Each Suppliant Sigh;
In Copious Shower
On All Who Pray,
Each Holy Day,
Thy Blessings Pour.

4. Here May We Gain From Heaven
The Grace Which We Implore,
And May That Grace, Once Given
Be With Us Evermore;
Until That Day,
When All The Blest,
To Endless Rest
Are Called Away.
