OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 MESSAGE:

Teenage life is usually associated with youthful exuberance; young people do many things spontaneously without thinking carefully about their consequences.

Haing being a youth once, trying my hands at many things, I can boldly tell you that it is better to be patient than hasty.

Patience is an uncommon characteristic that brings great benefits.

I have come across young people who made hasty decisions to travel out of their home country in search of a better life.

They didn’t wait to get direction from God, and thus, they wasted their parents’ resources.

They became stranded until God used some pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to rescue them and return them safely to their home countries.

My dear child, despite the fact that you may be experiencing some challenges in different areas of your life now, I want to admonish you to think carefully about all factors before making decisions.

Many people say that the grass is green on the other side, but I say, “The pasture is green where God blesses.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 PRAYER POINT

Father, please give me the grace to be patient and make wise decisions always.

OPEN HEAVENS FO TEENS 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 HYMN 58: MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING ELSE

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness seems to veils His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVEN 29 SEPTEMBER 2024 MEMORISE: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. Philippians 3:19

OPEN HEAVEN 29 SEPTEMBER 2024 READ: Proverbs 23:19-21:

19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

OPEN HEAVEN 29 SEPTEMBER 2024 MESSAGE

In conclusion of my teaching on the above topic, one major destiny destroyer that many people are not aware of is gluttony.

Gluttony is the habit of eating and drinking excessively. Gluttons cannot control their appetites, and such people do not usually go far in life.

They simply want to eat every time; food has become their preoccupation – their god.

Controlling your appetite is very important, and this is why the Bible says:When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Proverbs 23:1-2

The Scripture above does not imply that believers should literally put a knife to their necks, rather, it is saying that if they cannot control their appetite, even if they sit at a table with great men, they will still bring about their own destruction.

The Bible tells us that even though Daniel and his friends were chosen amongst those to eat a portion of the king’s food, they controlled their appetites and chose not to defile themselves with the food.

They chose to honour God by controlling their appetites, and God honoured them in return (Daniel 1:1-21).

Esau’s destiny was destroyed with a bowl of porridge; just one bowl of food caused his name to be omitted from the list we usually talk about – the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. ‘Jacob’ on the list would have been Esau, but he couldn’t control his appetite and lost his place on that great list (Genesis 25:29-34).

Some adults eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, snack in-between meals, and eat again just before going to bed.

How can you have the strength to wake up in the middle of the night for spiritual warfare when you are so loaded with food that you can hardly stand?

There are many people who died untimely deaths and truncated their own destinies because of how much food they ate.

They ate to the point of endangering their health, and then they passed on. Don’t let this be your portion.

Beloved, you should eat only when necessary and eat only the quantity of food that you need to survive.

When you eat too much, you will be weak, and you will have less strength to do the things that you need to do to achieve greatness.

Those whose belly is their god – meaning they are controlled by it – will end up in destruction. Control your appetite!

Father, please don’t let my appetite destroy me.

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

OPEN HEAVEN 28 SEPTEMBER 2024 MESSAGE

Today, I will continue my teaching on the different vices that can destroy destinies.

When we first started building Redemption City, I knew some bricklayers who would have been very wealthy by now if only they had not been lazy.

God had set them up in a place where they could have had great success, but their laziness robbed them of that opportunity.

Beloved, don’t be lazy. When I meet some pastors who started about the same time as me, they will usually say, “God has been good to you.”

Truly, God has been really gracious to me, but then, nobody can accuse me of laziness.

God can supply you with the grace you need to fulfil your destiny, but if you are lazy, the grace He provided will go to waste because you will not use it.

Many have prayed for open doors, but when the door was opened before them, they did not walk into it because of their laziness.

In today’s Bible reading, we are told to learn from the ants as they provide their meat and gather their harvest at the right time.

These days, some people make excuses to hide their laziness using different terms like exhaustion, procrastination, and so on.

When a fellow constantly disregards the things that he or she ought to do when they ought to be done, it is simply laziness.

For instance, if someone is to go out at 8am, but decides to stay in bed and refuses to have a bath nor get his or her clothes ironed by 7:30am, that is laziness.

When you read Proverbs 24:30-34, you will see the major danger in laziness. Laziness does not destroy destinies suddenly, it does it little by little.

If you are lazy, you will look back at your life after a while, and you will realise that you are far from the things that you set out to achieve.

Beloved, please banish any form of laziness in your life. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 9:11 that time and chance happen to everyone.

If you are lazy, when your time and chance come, you will likely be in bed sleeping. Don’t allow a little sleep to destroy your destiny.

Good sleep is very important for your health and general well-being, however, do not oversleep or sleep when you ought to be working.

Get up and work! Your destiny and that of many others depend on your efforts

Take note of the signs of laziness that might be in your life, and stop them today.

LESSON FIVE (05)
TOPIC: GOD-PLEASERS

OPENING PRAYER: Father, help me to please You always in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6 NKJV
[1] For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain.
[2] But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.
[3] For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.
[4] But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
[5] For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness—God is witness.
[6] Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

MEMORY VERSE: “That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” Colossians 1:10 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: The Almighty God created us human beings with the capacity to relate with Him and with one another. It is the level of your relationship with God that determines whether you are willing to please Him or not.A God-pleaser refers to someone who does things that bring pleasure to God. Things that make Him smile. These approved behavioural patterns are available in the word of God to learn from.

LESSON AIM: To teach students about the prospects of pleasing God.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson, students are expected to:
a. Understand what it means to be a God-pleaser.
b. Identify what to do to please God.
c. Know the benefits of pleasing God.

TEXT REVIEW: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6.

OUTLINES:
1. Becoming A God-Pleaser
2. Benefits Of Being A God-Pleaser

1. BECOMING A GOD-PLEASER
You must be determined to be a God-pleaser because every good thing requires seriousness and grit for it to succeed. Below are some of the ways to become a God-pleaser.
(i) Be a devout worshipper: God loves to be worshipped because He cannot worship Himself, therefore He seeks worshippers (John 4:23-24).
(ii) Believe and trust God wholeheartedly: One of the ways to give pleasure to God is your absolute trust in Him. (Psalm 118:8). This gives you easy access to Him always (Hebrews 11:5-6).
(iii) Obey and serve Him: God takes pleasure in the people who obey His word (Exodus 19:4-5).
(iv) Actively enlarge His kingdom: Seek to testify about your salvation experience to someone daily, draw men out of darkness into the light, expanding God’s kingdom. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-18).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should share with the class other things that can be done to please God. Support with scriptural references.

2. BENEFITS OF BEING A GOD-PLEASER
There are so many rewards available to those who choose to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Some of these include:
A. Divine presence with all its abundant wonders. The presence of God brings fullness of Joy (Psalm 16:11).
i. It was the presence of God that prospered Joseph everywhere he went and in everything he did (Genesis 39:2).
ii. The presence of God makes mountains move out of the way (Psalm 68:8).
iii. It was the presence of God that separated the Red Sea. (Psalm 114:3-8).

B. Glorious manifestation both here on earth and in eternity. Those who please God shall be abundantly blessed here on earth and reign with Christ in eternity as kings and priests (Mark 10:28-30; Revelation 5:10).

C. Demonstration of God’s power. When you are a God pleaser, you do not only make the promises of God to come to pass in your life, (2 Corinthians 1:20), but you turn them into time-bound decrees (Job 22:28).

D. Divine safety and security. As a God pleaser, your defence is sure, because God will shield you against every evil targeting you and fight your battles. In other words, your battles become God’s battles (2 Chronicles 20:17, Exodus 14:13-28).

E. Divine promotion. Anyone who pleases God will be divinely promoted and made ten times better than all his/her contemporaries. (Daniel 1:8, 20).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share the benefits of doing God’s will.

CONCLUSION: Beloved, it is better and extremely profitable now and for eternity to be a God-pleaser. Be determined to be one and God will help you.

EVALUATION: Students should mention three benefits of pleasing God.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, like Jesus, let my life be pleasing unto you.

ASSIGNMENT: List five (5) people in the Bible who pleased God (2X5=10 Marks).

So closely knitted into one,
They have taken me into their arms
And am so glad to be
A part of this great family

2. I bless this family of God,
So greatly prospered by the Lord,
They have taken me into their arms
And am so glad to be
A part of this great family

3. I know this family of God,
So deeply rooted in the word,
They have taken me into their arms
And am so glad to be
A part of this great family

4. I see this family of God,

And am so glad to be
A part of this great family

5. Come, join this family of God,
So highly favoured by the Lord,
They have taken me into their arms
And am so glad to be
A part of this great family.

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please help me to run the race before well and end well.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leader should ask members what they learnt on the last week lesson on NEW DAWN and how it affected
them.

MEMORY VERSE: Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one race with the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 1 Corinthians 9:24.

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9:19-27
[19]For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
[20]And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
[21]To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
[22]To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
[23]And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
[24]Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
[25]And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
[26]I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
[27]But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The race oflife is not relay is a marathon (an extended race) that is the reason you need to run it well with a lot of factors required to gain the prize at the end. In 1 Corinthians 9:24, the bible says many are running the race, running as they race but few are gaining the prize. The race to eternity can only end will when our Saviour, Lord Jesus is still with us guiding us and equipping us with the required strength and grace.

[16]And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

OPEN HEAVEN 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 MESSAGE

Yesterday, I discussed how the devil can use illicit sex as a tool to destroy destinies.

Another means through which the devil destroys destinies is greed. 1 Timothy 6:10 says: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Once the devil can get someone to love money, other evils will begin to spring forth.

Money should not have dominion over you; don’t make decisions that you know will offend God solely because of money.

Anything that is against the will of God, even if it has benefits worth billions of dollars attached to it, must become a taboo to you.

Many people have stolen money to buy a car, and then that car became their coffin.

Gehazi had a great destiny ahead of him; he could have inherited a double portion of the double-portion anointing that Elisha had, and that would have given him tremendous power.

However, greed denied him of a great destiny.

No matter how much money a Christian is tempted to steal, God’s plan for his or her life is much bigger than it.

I have seen great destinies destroyed because the people involved were too much in a hurry to become rich, and so, they took what they ought not to take.

Proverbs 28:20 says: “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.”

Don’t be too much in a hurry to be rich. If someone is too much in a hurry for riches, he or she will not be innocent, and that lack of innocence is what the devil will use to destroy such a fellow.

Be faithful, and you will abound in blessings. Don’t envy the people who are doing all manner of evil things to get money now; they are rams awaiting slaughter.

Proverbs 15:27 says: “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.”

Those who are greedy of gain are calling trouble on themselves and their families; it is only a matter of time before they begin to burn from the troubles that they bring on themselves. Don’t join them.

OPEN HEAVEN 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 PRAYER POINT

Father, please kill every element of greed in me now, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 HYMN 30

WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]

3. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 MEMORISE: But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. 1 Samuel 16:14

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 READ: 1 Samuel 15:22-23

22. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 MESSAGE

The story of king Saul started out very well. In 1 Samuel 9:2, he was described as a man of great height and handsome appearance.

He was an obedient young man who volunteered to help his father find some of his missing animals, and while on that trip, he prophesied in the company of godly men.

Eventually, he became the chosen one to lead the people of Israel as their first king ever.

However, Saul messed up when he started feeling very important before the people.

Even when Prophet Samuel corrected him for dishonouring and disobeying God in today’s Bible reading, the king was more concerned about his own reputation.

Thus, the kingdom was taken from him. He was rejected by God and replaced by little David (1 Samuel 16:12-13).

Beloved, it is good to remember your Creator in the days of your youth, but it is far better to remain consistent with Him as you grow older and become successful.

Let your heart remain focused on God, and seek to do only His will above all else.

Will thou pass over me today?

OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, please expose the secrets of “the flesh” to me in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 7:18-22.
[18]For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
[19]For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
[20]Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
[21]I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
[22]For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

MEMORY VERSE: “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:8.

INTRODUCTION: ‘The world’ is our external enemy, but we have another enemy which is an internal enemy called, “the flesh.” Our enemy, the Devil, has “a stronghold” inside of us that cooperates with him in his battle against us (Matthew 13:25, 39a). This stronghold is our sinful nature which the Bible calls “the flesh.” The one controlled by the flesh is also referred to as natural man, carnal man, or old man.

LESSON AIM: To teach the students about man’s internal enemy called ‘The Flesh.’

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
• Understand the enemies confronting mankind.
• Know what the flesh entails.
• Recognise when flesh is at work.
• Know the way out of fleshly propensity.

TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above-stated objectives, the teacher should:
a. Allow the students to recite the memory verse, read the Bible passage, contribute to the discussion, and do class activities and assignments.
b. Allow the Assistant Teacher to see to the well-being of the class, and mark attendance and assignments.
c. Teach the lesson outline, summarize, conclude, evaluate the lesson and give assignments.

TEXT REVIEW: Romans 7:18-22.

1.THE “FLESH” DESCRIBED
A. “The flesh” is not our body, but the sinful nature that dwells in our body (Romans 8:13).
i. One form of the flesh is ‘self.’ Before we were saved, ‘self’ was on the throne of our hearts (Romans 7:5; Ephesians 2:2-3).
ii. The moment we received Christ as our Saviour, He came to live in us (Galatians 2:20).
iii. ‘Self’ did not move out. Not only is it still there, but it wants to continue its rule in our hearts (Galatians 5:17; Romans 7:18-19).

B. The Bible tells us three things about the flesh:
i. ‘Self’ will never obey God (Romans 8:7).
ii. Sin comes from our sinful nature-the flesh (Mark 7:21-23).
iii. The flesh is Satan’s “stronghold” for sinning (Galatians 5:19-21).

C. Here are some of the ways ‘self’ expresses itself in people:
i. Self-pride: Declares himself as first and above all. He expects people to look up to and honour him (Exodus 5:2).
ii. Self-love: Affirms that the person who should be loved more than anyone else is himself (Luke 12:16-20).
iv. Self-pity: Believes that he is poor and not treated right. Always complaining and never satisfied (Exodus 16:2-3).
v. Self-righteousness: He is quite satisfied with his goodness and morality (1 Kings 19:14).
vi. Self-will: Always wants to have his way. He will do what he wants to do and does not care whether it contradicts God’s will (Judges 14:3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should mention other ways ‘self’ can express itself in a believer.

2. VICTORY THROUGH GOD
A. Since no sinner can come into the presence of God, our old sinful life must come to an end for us to become ‘a new person.’ God loves us and through His love, He did three wonderful things for us:
i. He ended our old Self-life and created something entirely new i.e. something that sin cannot touch (Romans 6:6-7).
ii. He made us a new person in Christ. When Christ rose from the dead, we rose with Him as “new persons” in God’s new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
iii. He gave Christ to us as our new Master. In Christ, we live to do the will of His Father (John 5:30).

B. As long as we are in our bodies, we can never get rid of self, but we can avoid being ruled by self. As believers, we can take the following steps to subdue ‘self’:
i. Choose to keep ‘self’ on the Cross (Galatians 5:24).
ii. Make Christ our King (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
iii. Live the Christ-life by bearing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Share with the class, other ways believers can subdue the flesh.

CONCLUSION: Be in control of your flesh with the help of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16).

LESSON FIVE (05)
TOPIC: MY ENEMY: “THE FLESH”

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

LESSON FIVE (05)
TOPIC: GOD-PLEASERS

OUTLINES:

DIVINE PRESENCE WITH ALL ITS ABUNDANT WONDERS: The presence of God brings fullness of Joy (Psalm 16:11). It was the presence of God that prospered Joseph everywhere he went and in everything he did (Genesis 39:2). The presence of God makes mountains move out of the way (Psalm 68:8). It was the presence of God that separated the red sea. (Psalm 114:3-8).

GLORIOUS MANIFESTATION BOTH HERE ON EARTH AND IN ETERNITY: Those who please God shall be abundantly blessed here on earth and reign with Christ in eternity as kings and priests (Mark 10:28-30; Revelation 5:10).

DEMONSTRATION OF GOD’S POWER. When you are a God pleaser, you do not only make the promises of God to come to pass in your life, (2 Corinthians 1:20), but you turn them into time-bound decrees (Job 22:28).

DIVINE SAFETY AND SECURITY: As a God pleaser, your defence is sure, because God will shield you against every evil targeting you and fight your battles. In other words, your battles become God’s battles (2 Chronicles 20:17, Exodus 14:13-28).

DIVINE PROMOTION. Anyone who pleases God will be divinely promoted and made ten times better than all his/her contemporaries. (Daniel 1:8,20).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share the benefits of doing God’s will.

CONCLUSION: Beloved, it is better and extremely profitable now and for eternity to be a God-pleaser. Be determined to be one and God will help you.
