OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JUNE 2023 MEMORIZE: But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:25

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING DEUTERONOMY 30:10-14

[10]If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

[11]For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.

[12]It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

[13]Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

[14]But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

Usually, a manufacturer creates a manual along with his/her product. This serves as a guide to the user on the operations of the product. Similarly, God inspired the writing of the Bible and made it our manual to serve as a guide on how to live.

The Bible also contains the solutions to all problems in the world today. For example, years ago, I tried solving a mathematical problem for my Ph.D. thesis, and I got the solution after reading the story of the Israelites and the Red Sea in Exodus 14.

It was a very complex equation that confused me, so I took a break to read my Bible. The Holy Spirit led me to read the story about how Moses parted the Red Sea. Then, He instructed me to divide my equation into two, solve them differently, and bring the two answers together, just like the Red Sea.

That was how I solved the difficult problem and got the correct answer. Beloved, the more you study God’s word, the more you will see solutions to problems and become an asset to the world.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JUNE 2023 KEY POINT

You will know the mind of God more when you read His word.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 10 JUNE 2023 HYMN

HYMN 14 – STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD

1. Standing on the promises of Christ our King,
Thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring:
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus
Standing, Standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Saviour
Standing, Standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that can-not fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living word of Go I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JUNE 2023 MEMORIZE: Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1 Timothy 5:17

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING 2 KINGS 4:8-17

8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.

9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.

11 And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.

12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.

13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.

15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.

16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.

17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

In (2 Kings 1:9-15), Elijah was sitting on a mountain top when a king sent 50 armed soldiers and a captain to arrest him. Elijah looked defenceless physically but when they tried to arrest him, he called fire down from heaven to roast all of them. When the king sent another 50 soldiers, they got roasted too.

Thereafter, he sent another set of 50 soldiers and their captain. When they got to the mountain where Elijah was and saw the ashes of the two sets of soldiers that had been consumed by fire, the Bible says the captain fell on his knees and begged the man of God to spare him as he was only doing his job.

The angel of God then spoke to Elijah and said, “You can go with him”. What made his case different? Honour. That is why he was able to succeed at what got the previous captains and soldiers roasted.

It doesn’t matter who you are; if you despise an anointed man or woman of God, if you mock him or her, you could pay dearly for it. In (2 Kings 2:23-24), you see what happened when some children started mocking Elisha; they ended up being eaten by bears.

The anointing on a man or woman of God can work dangerously against anyone who despises him or her. Any true man or woman of God will tell you that as the anointing increases, he or she speaks less because whatever he or she says when angry can kill.

There was a man who decided to take over the Parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God he was pastoring. When I heard the news I simply said, “I leave him to God”. The man held a crusade and on his way home, he got killed by armed robbers.

I had thought I was careful enough with what I said. Since then, I learned to not take offence easily and if at all I am offended, I keep my mouth shut. It is better to provoke a blessing from the anointed than a curse. The easiest way to provoke a man or woman of God to bless you is to honour him or her.

When you honour the anointed, the anointing will work in your favour. The king of Israel honoured Elisha by calling him Father. In turn, Elisha used his anointing to save him and his army when their enemies laid ambush for them. God can solve all your problems in an instant if you would just honour a man or woman of God.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JUNE 2023 ACTION POINT

When next you see an anointed person, make sure you do something that just shows the person that you honour him or her.

OPEN HEAVEN 10 JUNE 2023 HYMN

HYMN: 12 – ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS!

1. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before!
Christ, the Royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle, see His banner go!

REFRAIN:
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before!

2. At the name of Jesus, Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver, at the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthem raise!

3. Like a mighty army, moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading, where the saints have trod;
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

4. Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdom’s rise and wane;
But the Church of Jesus, constant will remain:
Gates of hell can never ‘gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

5. Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices, in the triumph song:
Glory, praise and honour, unto Christ the King;
This, through countless ages, men and angels sing.

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Chronicles 20:5-25

[2]Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.

[3]And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

[4]And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

[5]And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

[6]And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

[7]Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

[8]And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

[9]If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

[10]And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

[11]Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

[12]O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

[13]And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

[14]Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

[15]And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

[16]To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

[17]Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

[18]And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

[19]And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

[20]And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

[21]And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

[22]And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

[23]For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

[24]And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

[25]And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: A champion is a man whose spiritual armour are blood stained and battled tested. He/She has faced failures, defeats and success in life’s struggles and are still standing in Christ.
Being a champion requires you to see yourself as a champion. The Bible says in Proverbs 23:7, As a man thinks in his heart, so is he”.
The way you see yourself will dramatically affect how you live your life, a champion views himself differently than the average person
does.

CHARACTERISTICs OF CHAMPIONS (THEIR SECRETS)
Conquerors are those who went to war where there was the spilling of blood. That’s why Jesus was and is a conqueror. He spilled blood, overcame demonic opposition to become a champion for our salvation.
1. You must be committed to rising above average. Revelation 3:16, Philippians 4:13.

2. You must have the heart of a champion. The heart of a true champion knows that God is his strength and empowers him/her to even greater victories.

3. You must believe in yourself when no one else will. David in 1 Samuel 17:45:47 believed he can defeat Goliath and he actually did.

4. Confront your fears. You will be free if you confront your insecurities, jealousness and anything that will break your focus. Fear holds you back. Joshua 8:1, Luke 12:32, psalm
27:1, Isaiah 41:9-10.

5. For champions, good is not good enough. In the story of David, he refused to hold his peace when being shouted down until he
got the desired victory 1 Samuel 17: 28-31.

6. Champions are always ready to pay the price. You need to spend time in God’s presence. Proverbs 8:17, 2 Tim. 2:15, Psalm 145:18.

7. God believes in excellence. God wants you to do more than is necessary. He wants you to excel in everything you do. 3 John 1:2, 1 Corinthians 12:31.

8. Be a finisher. Those who rise above the crowd are the champions who go the extra mile while others are relaxing.

SUMMARY: Winning as champions starts with healthy relationship with God.

CONCLUSION: Every believer is made for the peak, to have a defeat mentality is dangerous. Numbers 13:30-33

* Every believer should possess the mind of gaining victory in all facets of life.
* To live victorious life, you must hear directly from God.
* Devil does not have final say over your life as believers.
* When you believe in God, there is no room to lose any battle.

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 2:20-21
[20]But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

[21]If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

MEMORY VERSE: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2Corinthians 4:7.

INTRODUCTION: God can make something out of nothing and will never create anything without a purpose. He chose a small portion of the dust to form man and His breath in the nostril of man made the difference, making man a living soul (Gen.2:7). God has a purpose for all souls He created including all the resources He puts into our hands more so because no one can have anything except it is given from above. God expects the resources given to us to flow through us to benefit others and this forms the differences between a container and a vessel.

OUTLINES:
1. TREASURES IN DUST
2. CONTAINERS OR VESSELS

1..TREASURES IN DUST
Dust had no serious relevance to man until God touched, made and breathed into it, the breath of life (Gen.2:7). He deposited part of Himself – His Spirit – into the dust and deposited a treasure in it (Job 32:8). That small portion of dust began to move on the larger portion with authority from God (Gen.1:28). When the master, in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30, was ‘travelling to a far country,’ he gave talents to his servants according to their pre-determined abilities. All the servants got something and none was empty. All of us, therefore, have resources deposited inside of us and no one is empty (2Cor.4:7). Our Master, Jesus Christ, has deposited great treasures into us (Eph.4:7-8) and expects us to use the resources and make profits so that He will bless us when He comes back (1Cor.12:7; Rev.22:12). What you do with the resources is a matter of choice; you could be a container or a vessel.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask each student to identify what talents or gifts or abilities they have and how they use the gift for God’s glory.

2. CONTAINERS OR VESSELS
God expects us to be vessels and not containers. What then makes a container different from a vessel?
1. A container receives and retains whereas a vessel transports (transmits). Abraham received Isaac and was willing to release him (Gen.22:15-18).

2. A container is a reservoir but a vessel is a channel (Lk.12:16-21; Gen.12:1-3).

3. A container is basically static like a pond but a vessel is dynamic (Acts8:5-6, 26-40).

4. A container gives only when compelled but a vessel is always giving (Eccl.11:2-6).

5. A container is limited in reception but a vessel is unlimited because it is constantly flowing (Jn.20:21-22; Prov.11:24).

6. A container abides alone whereas a vessel touches several others (Jn.12:24; Acts 10:38; Jn. 7:37-39).

A container could become a vessel if the container is willing. If a wheel is attached to a container and pulled, it becomes a vessel. A good example is in Elisha who forsook his ambition, attached himself to Elijah and kept moving (1Kgs.19:19-21; 2Kgs.2:1-22).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The teacher should lead the students to pray that they will be vessels to honour and not containers.

CONCLUSION
Beware; a vessel could equally become a container. Let the one who thinks he stands take heed lest he falls (1Cor.10:12).

QUESTIONS:
* Give some examples of situations when God brought out something from nothing
* What are the differences between a container and a vessel?

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER’S MANUAL 11 JUNE 2023

LESSON FORTY ONE (41)
TOPIC: THE EARTHEN VESSELS

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

MEMORY VERSE: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2Corinthians 4:7.

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please be glorified in the vessels of Your children in all nations in the name of Jesus.

TEXT REVIEW: 2 Timothy 2:20-21.
A. The teacher should identify any six kinds of vessels in this passage.
i. ————————————————
ii. ———————————————–
iii. ———————————————- iv.———————————————–
v. ———————————————- vi.———————————————–

B. The teacher should state four ways to possess one’s vessel as a believer.
a. ———————————————
b. ———————————————
c. ———————————————
d. ———————————————

LESSON OUTLINE 1. TREASURES IN DUST
The teacher should identify and explain the treasures in the dust as follows:
i. Dust had no serious relevance to man until God touched, made and breathed into it, the breath of life. Gen.2:7.

ii. He deposited part of Himself – His Spirit – into the dust and deposited a treasure in it. Job 32:8.

iii. That small portion of dust began to move on the larger portion with authority from God. Gen.1:28.

iv. Just as the master in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 gave talents to his servants and none was empty, so does every believer have resources deposited inside of us and no one is empty. 2Cor.4:7.

v. Our Master, Jesus Christ, has deposited great treasures into us. Eph.4:7-8.

vi. He expects us to use the resources and make profits so that He will bless us when He comes back. 1Cor.12:7; Rev.22:12.
vii. What you do with the resources is a matter of choice; you could be a container or a vessel.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask each student to identify what talents or gifts or abilities they have and how they use the gift for God’s glory.

LESSON OUTLINE 2. CONTAINERS OR VESSELS
A. Differences between a container and a vessel.
i. A container receives and retains whereas a vessel transports (transmits). Abraham received Isaac and was willing to release him. Gen.22:15-18

ii. A container is a reservoir but a vessel is a channel. Luke 12:16-21; Gen.12:1-3

iii. A container is basically static like pond but a vessel is dynamic. Acts 8:5-6, 26-40

iv. A container gives only when compelled but a vessel is always giving. Eccl.11:2-6

v. A container is limited in reception but a vessel is unlimited because it is constantly flowing. Jn.20:21-22; Prov.11:24.

vi. A container abides alone whereas a vessel touches many others. Jn.12:24; Acts 10:38.

B. TRANSFORMATION OF A CONTAINER TO A VESSEL
-The teacher should explain how a container can be transformed into a vessel physically and spiritually.
i. Physically: If you attach wheel(s) to a container, and pull, it becomes a vessel.

ii. Spiritually: If the Holy Spirit comes into a container the Spirit will transform the person to a vessel.

iii. Example of a container-transformed vessel was Elisha who, forsook his farm and ambition and followed Elijah. 1 Kings 19:19-21; 2 Kings 2:1-22.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The teacher should lead the students to pray that they will be vessels to honour and not containers.

SUMMARY: Be a vessel to honour and not a container.

CONCLUSION: Beware; a vessel could equally become a container. Let the one who thinks he stands take heed lest he falls (1Cor.10:12).

QUESTIONS:
*Give some examples of situations when God brought out something from nothing.
* What are the differences between a container and a vessel?

EVALUATION:
i. What is an earthen vessel?
ii. Differentiate between a container and a vessel.

CLOSING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please convert many containers to vessels of honour for Your glory.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) biblical characters, with scriptural reference each, who remained vessels in God’s hand. (2×5=10 Marks).

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 9 JUNE 2023 FRIDAY

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 9 JUNE 2023 MEMORIZE: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him. 1 John 3:1

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 9 JUNE 2023 BIBLE READING ISAIAH 49:15-18

[15]“Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.

[16]See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

[17]Your sons shall make haste; Your destroyers and those who laid you waste Shall go away from you.

[18]Lift up your eyes, look around and see; All these gather together and come to you. As I live,” says the Lord, “You shall surely clothe yourselves with them all as an ornament, And bind them on you as a bride does.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 9 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE

The Bible declares in 1 John 4:8 that our God is love, He expresses His love for us daily. The greatest expression of His love however, is that He gave up His Son to die for our sins.

Many people claim to love but their love fails when tested; God’s love never fails. He loves you so much that He inscribed your name on His palm (Isaiah 49:16). Believe it or not, a nursing mother can forget her child, but God can never forget you.

God loves every child of His equally irrespective of their social or financial status. The Bible says that He is no respecter of persons. He doesn’t see you as a liability but as a child to be pampered.

A popular hymnist wrote:
“Father -like He tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame He knows
In His arms He gently bears us
Rescues us from all our foes.”

Even when you go through unpleasant situations, His eyes are on you all the way. So, don’t believe anything less of yourself. Embrace the love of God today and replicate it wherever you find yourself.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 9 JUNE 2023 PRAYER POINT

Father, thank You for loving me so much.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 9 JUNE 2023 HYMN

HYMN 19: JESUS LOVES ME! THIS I KNOW

1. Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.

CHORUS
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.

2. Jesus loves me He who died,
Heaven’s gate to open wide,
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

3. Jesus loves me, loves me still,
Tho’ I’m very weak and ill
From His shining throne on high
He will watch me where I lie.

4. Jesus loves me He will stay
Close beside me all the way,
If I love Him when I die
He will take me home on high.

LESSON FORTY ONE (41)
TOPIC: DYNAMICS OF GRACE (PART 2)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 Corinthians 8:6-9.

[6]So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well.

[7]But as you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you abound in this grace also. Christ Our Pattern

[8]I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others.

[9]For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

MEMORY VERSE:
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV).

INTRODUCTION: In addition to the description of ‘Grace’ given in the previous lesson, Grace can also be referred to as the divine influence in a human heart that reflects on the outside. It produces favour, beauty, goodwill, loveliness, and ability. It increases as one grows in the knowledge of God’s word (2 Pet.3:18). We shall therefore consider the various dimensions of grace mentioned in the Bible as well as some actions that can be taken with or against grace.

OUTLINES:
1. DIMENSIONS OF GRACE
2. WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH/AGAINST GRACE

1. DIMENSIONS OF GRACE
The Bible talks about grace in various dimensions. For instance, we have common grace (Ps.145:9; Matt.5:45), saving grace (Eph.2:4-9; Tit.2:11), abundant grace (2 Cor.4:15), sanctifying grace (Tit.2:12; 1 Jn.2:15-16), sustaining grace (Rom.6:14; Jude: 1:24-25), supernatural/enabling grace (Phil.4:13; Lk.1:37), service (gifting) grace (Rom.12:6; Eph.4:7), sufficient grace (2 Cor.9:8; 1 Pet.5:10), victorious grace (1 Sam.17:36-37), sacrificial giving grace (Gen.22:9-10; 2 Cor.12:15), great grace (Acts 4:33), eternal grace (1 Cor.9:27), etc.
The key to access and operate at any of these levels or dimensions of grace lies in the degree of one’s connection with Christ from whom all grace originates and the desire to grow in Him (Jn.15:5; Phil.4:13; 2 Pet.3:18).

2. WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH/AGAINST GRACE
There are lots of benefits that a believer can derive from grace apart from salvation. Grace can impart great blessings (Acts.4:23; Ps.84:11). It also imparts faith (Acts.18:27). In addition, it makes one God’s elect (Rom.11:5-6), gives boldness (1Cor.15:10), calls believers to the ministry (Gal.1:15), helps render acceptable service (Heb.12:28), gives seasoning to speech (Col.4:6), gives strength (2Tim.2:1), helps in time of need (Heb.4:16) and can bring hope (2Thess.2:16), among others.
However, it is possible to do the following against grace:
1. Receive grace in vain (2Cor.6:1).
2. Frustrate grace in one’s life (Gal.2:21).
3. Fall from grace (Gal.1:6-8; 5:4).
4. Fail of the grace of God (Heb.12:15).
5. Turn grace into lasciviousness (Jude 4).
6. Continue in sin in spite of grace (Rom.6:1).
7. Reject grace through pride (Jam.4:6).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: What should you do and not do to grace?

CONCLUSION: Every believer must aspire to grow in grace (2 Pet.3:18). It is a dangerous thing to abuse grace despite its benefits.

QUESTIONS:
* State the dimensions of Grace known to you.
* What can you do with/against grace?

FURTHER READING: MON: 1 Pet.5:5-6; TUE: Prov.3:34; WED: Prov.11:16; THUR: Lk.9:16; FRI: Lk.22:19; SAT: Jn.1:17; SUN: 1 Cor.15:10.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention any two dimensions of grace and state how they have worked for you (2×5=10 marks).
