[37]And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

[38]And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

[39]Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

[40]But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Rendering help is the act of giving aid or assistance (whether materials or services) to people in need. It can be in the form of Corporate Social Responsibility or personal assistance to the less privileged. More importantly, the Bible encourages us to help members of the household of faith (Gal.6:10).

1. WHO NEEDS OUR HELP?
The following people should be helped: the
committed brethren in need (Gal.6:10), the aged (Lev.19:32), the widows/widowers
(Jam.1:2Z), orphans and deserted/helpless (Ps.82:3), the poor (Prov.19:17), the specially challenged (emotional, physical, mental, etc.) – 2 Sam.9:3, 13.

Our help should primarily be to our need
family members (which include our parent
1 Tim.5:8, members of the household of faith (Gal.6:10), then to members of our society whether known or unknown, good or bad. It is necessary to help brethren by connecting them to people or places to get good jobs, pay hospital bills, get scholarships for children’s education, etc.

While this gesture should not be an excuse
for some people to be lazy, indulge in begging or feel entitled, believers, should note that everything we have is given to us by God
(Ps.68:19; 1Cor.4:7). Therefore, we should be encouraged to give to people in need or render helpful services because these result in blessings (Prov.22:9). Rendering help and
expecting nothing back from the recipient is a great way to be Christ-like (Lk.6:34-35).

2. HOW SHOULD WE HELP?
As believers, it is important to know that the
help we render should be rooted in love
(1 Cor.13:3) even as it allows us to serve God
better (2Cor.9:8). Giving, for instance, is an
outward sign of our love for others (1Jn.3:17) and we should give expecting God to provide (Lk.6:38). Sometimes, our giving can be a measurement of our faith (Mal.3:10). However, the state of the heart of the giver matters more than the size of the gift (Lk.21:1-4).

While encouraging the believers in Corinth
give generously, Paul did not want them to give beyond their means, “reluctantly or under compulsion” (2 Cor.8:12). More importantly, he wanted them to rely on their inner convictions (2Cor.9:7). No one should give under duress but giving, even when you are reluctant can be a learning process especially when you do not have a surplus.

CONCLUSION: God loves it when we give (2 Cor.9:Z) and He will always pay back in ways we least imagine.

A.The teacher should find out from the stu-
dents how many people they helped last
week.

B.The teacher should mention and explain those who need our help as indicated in the
list below:
i. Our family members: immediate and extended. (1Tim. 5:8).

ii.Committed brethren who are in need. (Gal.
6:10).

iii. The aged/old people. (Lev.19:32).

iv. The widows/widowers. (Jam.1:27)

v. The orphan, deserted/helpless. (Ps.82:3).

vi. The poor. (Prov.19:17).

C.The teacher should explain that helping
others could include the offering provision/materials directly or linking the needy to the source(s) of help to access good jobs, pay hospital bills, get scholarships for children’s school fees, etc.

D.The teacher should stress the following:
i. Rendering help should not be an excuse
for some people to be lazy, indulge in beg-

ii.Believers should note that all our posses-
sions come from God, which means He (God) owns everything. (Ps.68:19; 1Cor.4:7).

İv. Rendering help and expecting nothing back from the recipient, is a great way to be Christ-like. (Lk.6:34-35).

LESSON OUTLINE 2: HOW SHOULD WE HELP?
A. Important things to note about helping:

i. We should help in love. (1Cor. 13:13;
1John 3:17).

ii.We should render help as service to God.
(2Cor.9:8).

iii. Giving, for instance, should be an out-
ward sign of our love for others. (1Jn,3:17).

iv.We should render help as service to God.
(2Cor.9:8).

iv. We should give expecting God to bless us
in return. (Luke 6:38).

v. We should give to show the depth of our faith. (Mal.3:10).

vi. The state of the heart of the giver matters more than the size of the gift. (Luke 21:1-4).

B. CASE STUDY: Paul’s injunction to the believers in Corinth. He encouraged them to:
i. Give generously i.e. willingly. (2 Cor.8:12).
ii.Give cheerfully with strong conviction.
(2 Cor.9:7).

C.No one should give under duress. But giving, even when you are reluctant can be a
learning process especially when you do not
have a surplus. (Ps.126:5-6).

SUMMARY: Believers are admonished to render help to the needy and this must be in
line with Scriptural guidelines so as to be
blessed.

I decree and declare that I will not be among the people who are ever learning yet never coming to the knowledge of the truth in Jesus name.

OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 24 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

I once visited a friend, and his wife prepared some food for me. The meat could not be cut with my teeth. The ingredients – vegetable, palm oil, seasoning, et cetera, were in their different compartments, but I forced myself to eat a little. Thereafter, my friend’s wife asked me, “How was the food?” I gave a polite response, but she was not convinced.

Dissatisfied, she probed, “You are my daddy, please tell me what you really think because my husband does not come home to eat.” She kept on pressing for an objective assessment because her marriage was on the line and I had to tell her exactly how it was and gave her some cooking tips, which helped her marriage from that moment.

Nobody knows it all. If you are ready to learn, you will not cover up your weaknesses in life and your academics. You don’t always have to solve it all on your own. Be honest with yourself by identifying the challenges, then find out ways to solve them. Don’t forget to ask God for direction. He will teach you how to get the desired change.

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.

OPEN HEAVEN 25 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

While it is true that God can solve all problems, when you go closer to Him, you would realise that once in a while, He allows some mountains (problems) to stand in your way. The good thing however, is that if He allows the mountain to stand in your way, it is because He knows you can climb it.

For example, in Job’s case, God only allowed what He knew Job could overcome. (1 Corinthians 10:13) says that God will not permit us to be tempted beyond our capacity and He would always provide a way of escape as well.

Sometimes, God allows mountains in the life of His children because he or she is about to be promoted. Before every promotion, there is always an exam that the fellow who is to be promoted must pass. No teacher will give Advanced-level questions to primary school students in an exam. God will not let you face a trial you cannot overcome.

In Daniel 3, after all the horrors of going into the fiery furnace, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were promoted. Job 42:12-16 tells us that at the end of Job’s test, his latter end was far superior to his beginning.

When God allows mountains to stand in the path of His children, He also gives them the required measure of grace to deal with those mountains. The unfortunate thing is that many times, people refuse to use that grace and they just let the temptation take over their lives. There is always a way of escape, no matter how small; you just have to hold on to it so that you can overcome.

This is where you need the fruit of the Spirit called, “Longsuffering”. Don’t look for alternatives to God simply because you are facing a mountain. Don’t commit sin in a bid to get rid of that mountain because sin will only bring a bigger mountain your way.

Hold on to God like Job did. Don’t deny Him when you are going through a hard time; Don’t faint in the day of adversity; stand strong, His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9).

OPEN HEAVEN 24 MARCH 2023 MESSAGE

As opposed to the people who don’t have ears that we discussed yesterday, there are many who do have ears but are too paralysed to practice what they learn from the word of God. They can recall the Pastor’s sermon word for word but they don’t practice it.

They can probably even recite the Bible from Genesis to Revelation but it does not show in their lives because they do nothing in line with the word. These category of people are described in (2 Timothy 3:7) as: Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

These are people who learn but somehow, the word does not take root in them enough for it to change their character. The devil practically paralyses them and stops them from doing what they have learnt. If you are in this category, I declare your freedom today, in Jesus’ name.

One way the devil paralyses people after they have heard the word is through procrastination. They hear and are determined to apply what they have learnt, but then they procrastinate until they lose the zeal to do it. The day my Father-in-the-Lord taught us that worldly music attracts evil spirits while godly music repels them and attracts the Holy Spirit, I destroyed all the worldly music tapes that I had.

The night he preached about cleanliness, and pointed our attention to the dirt under our beds, that same night when we got home, my wife and I lifted up the mattress and cleaned under the bed and everywhere in our home. We did not wait until the next day.

That is the same way you should practice the word of God: with urgency! James 1:23-25 says that when you don’t practice the word immediately, it is like not adjusting your clothes while standing in front of the mirror. It would be useless to start adjusting them when you no longer have the mirror before you. Don’t let the devil paralyse you; act on God’s word as soon as you hear it.

In a particular year, things went contrary to my expectations, I did not receive the things I asked for. So, when it was time to prepare for thanksgiving service, I told God, “Daddy quite frankly, I am not sure I have anything to thank You for.” He asked “Are you sure?” I replied, “Yes.”

Then He asked me to get a piece of paper and write the answers to the questions He would ask me. So He said, “How many times were you sick and regained your health? How many days out of the 365 days of the year did you sleep and wake up? This is a miracle because many sleep and never wake up.” By the time God was through, I realized that I had quite a lot of reasons to thank Him.

Some people hardly see any need to thank God because they have one or more pending requests. The problem is not that God has not done anything for you, but that you classify God’s goodness using the wrong yardstick.

When He provides a material blessing, it’s a big thing, while waking up from sleep daily is little or nothing. There’s no small miracle: therefore, learn to appreciate Him for everything.
