OPEN HEAVEN 15 JANUARY 2023 MESSAGE

I heard someone preaching recently and he said if God leaves him, there will be little left. I don’t know how come in his case, there would still be anything left; in my case, there would be absolutely nothing left.

As for me, I am fully aware that without Him that regularly. God, I am nothing, absolutely nothing and I tell I preached a sermon at the commissioning into ministry of one of my sons about 40 years ago. I told them about the ass that Jesus rode in our Bible reading for today.

The ass must have suddenly looked around and seen people laying down their clothes on the ground for him to walk on, with a lot of singing and dancing going on as he passed by. He must have really felt special. However, the moment Jesus got down and left him, he was abandoned.

By then he must have been far from home and probably did not even know his way back. He must have passed by humans and instead of rejoicing like before, they most likely chased it away. At best, he would have ended up as a labourer on a farm.

Beloved, the moment God leaves you, you are finished. You think you’re smart? Just a little tweak of a professor’s brain and he can become a mad man roaming the streets.

When people see me living holy, being humble, obeying God to the letter, it is because I don’t want Him to leave me. I don’t want to look around and discover that He is no longer with me. I don’t want to pray and have Him ignore my prayers. I am imploring you my beloved, don’t do anything that would make God leave you.

At some point on the cross, Jesus cried, Father, why hast thou forsaken me” (Matthew 27:46). Think about it: when the whole world turned against Him, He did not mind, but when the Father turned from Him, He cried. Even if the whole world turns against you, you are fine as long as God is still on your side. Without God, you are nothing.

OPEN HEAVEN 16 JANUARY 2023 MESSAGE

Abraham was a man who raised many altars for God (Genesis 12:7, Genesis 13:4, Genesis 13:18, Genesis 22:9). Little wonder why he had transgenerational blessings. An altar is a meeting place between God and man.

In our Bible reading for today, we see how, even when Jacob was unaware that he was at an altar, he saw in a dream that the place was a meeting point between heaven and earth.

For example, an altar can be a corner of your room if apartment. you are living in a one-room You could set aside a corner in your room with a commitment to meet with God there regularly. You must treat the place as holy; because that is the altar of the Almighty God.

The moment you set aside that place as an altar to God, any time you go there, God would be waiting. When man goes to an altar, he does so to offer sacrifices to God and to worship Him.

In Genesis 22:1-14 when God asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering, He asked him to go to a particular place, raise an altar there and present a sacrifice.

When visiting a great man, because of how much you honour him, you don’t go empty-handed, so why do so when going to meet with the Most High God? Don’t go to God empty handed. If you don’t have anything at all, He will accept a sacrifice of praise (Jeremiah 17:26).

When God comes to meet man on the altar, He comes to bless. Psalm 67:5-7 tells us that when praises go up, blessings come down. In Genesis 22:15-18, when Abraham brought Isaac to the altar to be offered, God stopped him and said, “You have done your part, let me do mine, in blessing I will bless You, in multiplying, I will multiply your seed”.

God meets with His children during services to bless them, especially those who come with a sacrifice. I raised an altar in a small room inside the first house I lived in the Redemption Camp well over 20 years ago.

The house is now called the ‘Open Heavens International Centre’. Since that place was marked out as an altar, up to today, people who go there to pray in faith receive mighty miracles from God that even I find amazing.

Jesus told His disciples that many pray and do not get answers because they do not pray correctly (praying amiss) James 4:2-3. Our Lord Jesus during His earthly ministry taught His disciples how to pray (fight) and obtain desired answers (results). John 14:13-14, Matthew 21:22, Matthew 7:7

ELEMENTS OF ACCEPTABLE PRAYERS
To fight and overcome in the place of prayers, we must pray as prescribed for us by our Lord Jesus Christ.
1. Approach God’s presence with praise and thanksgiving, Psalm 100:4-5

2. The prayers must be in the name of Jesus, John 14:14

3. You must pray in faith, Matthew 21:22

4. Your request must be according to God’s will, Mark 14:32-36

5. You need the Holy Spirit to help channel your requests correctly, Romans 8:26-27, 1 Corinthians 14:2

HINDRANCES TO EFFECTIVE PRAYERS
Jesus told His disciples that when we do not pray correctly, our prayers will not achieve desired results. Likewise, Daniel 10:12-13 also reveals that prayers can be hindered by the devil and his cohorts, 1 Peter 5:8
a. Unbelief, James 1: 6-7
b. Wrong motives James 4:3, 1 John 5:14
c. Sin, 1 Isaiah 59:1, Proverbs 28:9, 1 Peter 3:12
d. Pride, James 4:6
e. Unforgiveness, Mark 11:11-15
f. Disharmony in the home, 1 Peter 3:7
g. Lack of knowledge of God’s Word, Hosea 4:6, Hebrews 4:12

CONCLUSION: As children of God, we have the assurance that our Lord Jesus has already fought and won our battles for us, Colossians 2:13-15. What is required of us is to believe and claim our victories in place of prayers by the blood and the name of Jesus. Revelation 12:11

1. WHO DESERVES HONOUR?
A. The idea of honouring people is biblical and can be showcased in many of our basic relationships. Here are some of them:
i. Citizen-Authority relationships: We are to honour those in authority through obedience and demonstration of respect, irrespective of their age or qualification. This comes from the fact that they represent God’s ultimate authority (Rom.13:1-2).

ii. Laity-Clergy relationships: The Bible speaks of the leadership of the church as deserving ‘double honour’ (1Tim.5:17).

iii. Employee-Employer relationships: We are equally commanded to honour one another in our employer-employee relationships (Eph.6:5-9).

iv. Husband-Wife relationships: In a marriage relationship, the husband is expected to love and show appreciation to his wife while she reciprocates with reverence (Eph.5:33).

v. Children-Parents relationships: The command to honour our parents comes with a promise (Ex.20:12). To do otherwise is to attract untimely death (Matt.15:4).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Should the wicked/ungodly leaders be honoured?

2. HOW CAN WE ATTAIN TRUE HONOUR?
A. The Bible teaches that:
i. True honour is found in God (Deut.26:19).
ii. Anyone who wishes to attain true honour must, first of all, have a cordial relationship with God (Ps.91:14-15).

B. To attain honour, we must be:
i. Righteous (Prov.21:21).
ii. Humble (Prov.22:4; Prov.15:33).
iii. Wise and intelligent (Prov.4:7-8).
iv. Hardworking and diligent (Prov.22:29).
v. Faithful and maintain integrity (Ps.41:12; Prov.20:7), among others.
The Bible teaches that true honour is found in God (Deut.26:19). Anyone who wishes to attain true honour must, first of all, have a cordial relationship with God (Ps.91:14-15). SUMMARY: Give honour to those who deserve it and earn it yourself, by paying the price.

CONCLUSION: If we honour those promoted by God, He will honour us too. Do not look down on anyone.

Thank You, Lord, for the blessings You have bestowed on my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who always look out for me.
